IPhone displays a USB connector image and asks to be connected to iTunes?
Hi
On three occasions now when I have turned my iPhone on it has displayed a USB connector image on screen and asks to be connected to itunes? If I turn it off and then on again it works normally but I get a message "iPhone activated".
Is this something I am doing wrong or is this a 'glitch'?

I think it is a glitch of some sort. That happens to me every once in a while and it goes away after I reboot my phone.. I have 2.1 still on my phone.. Hope this helps.

That makes it difficult. My new (working) phone is a 4S and the SIM card does not fit. The old SIM card is in the 3GS but as far as I know it was was deactivated.
But it seems that with other updates over the last couple of years this was not necessary and my partner went through the same update with her 3GS with no problems.
Should I go to my AT&T dealer and purchase a new SIM card? Is there still a new one available? -

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

The iPad is telling you it has entered the recovery mode - you need to follow the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 for connecting to a computer running iTunes by way of the recovery mode.

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:

Plug the device into a wall outlet and allow it to charge for at least 20 minutes. Then attempt to reset the device by pressing and holding the home and power buttons until the white Apple logo appears.

I have Googled for answers but they all say "use the home and wake button", but, they're broke.
There are no back ups on her computer.
Help please?Since there are no backups, she'll need to restore the phone using Recovery Mode. But since the buttons don't work, that won't work. I suggest she purchase another iPhone, backup regularly and use a passcode she can remember.

To supplement it:
Reboot your computer
Launch iTunes
disable your firewall and antivirus
Connect to a USB port on the computer, not a hub
Dlsconnect all other USB devices except mouse and keyboard
Then follow Apple's instructions. Good luck!
If it still fails, and you are on Windows, here is a long shot:
Open a command window and type:
netsh winsock reset
Then try again. (There was a Windows update 3 weeks ago that corrupted winsock data). -
my iphone 4 conked out.It was not receiving cellular signal so I switched off and on.After switching on instead of taking me to the first page of apps it showed me ios6 tab and asked me to connect to itunes where it asked me to restore settings. which i did and waited for an hour and a half and later realised its got stuck. Now the phone does not respond at all and shows the logo and a half complete bar.Is there a solution to this, if at all. Am without a phone here ppl.Thanks
Did you do the update via iTunes?
If you are only getting the logo will want to try to see if can get device in recovery mode and try the restore process via iTunes again.
If you are still unable to get the device to restore will need a repair
Out of Warranty will cost

I recommend checking into several sections in Power/Battery, including "Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter," "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive," and "Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off."
