IPhone dock extender not playing sound

I bought an apple iPhone 4s dock extender for my SONY dock, and just got it today. The way it works is one end plugs in to the dock where the iPhone usually sits, and the other end plugs in to the iPhone. Once I plugged both sides in, the iPhone vibrated, started charging, and the volume bar disappeared. This is normally what happens when I plug my iPhone in to the dock without a cable. However, when I press play on my iPhone, no sound comes out of the dock....Yet the song is still playing.
The volume is up on both the dock and the iPhone. Am I missing some settings or something here? What's wrong?

I resolved the problem, i connected my iPhone to my apple tv and that seemed to resolve the problem.

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if fixed. If not, and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, clean again, very well with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol.

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it??? I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

and than I bought an incase Case.
It doesn't work. The gadget used to support the iPhone does not fit into old docking stations. See photo 1:

I called the Gadget Locker and the nice lady didn't even own an iPhone and could not try it! Do not use this company if you want a dockable iPhone solution

A little tape seemed to fix the problem, is this safe?

My iphone 4s doesn't play sound out loud, but my ringtone works. Music & videos also play with the headphones in, but if I want to watch a video or listen to music without headphones it will not make a sound, even though these things display they are playing on the screen.... does anyone have any ideas.
I have rebooted etc but that hasn't worked

Have you looked at the Ring/Silent switch on the side of the device? It may have been moved to the Silent position.

My phone will not play sound and it turns on by itself

Recently my iPhone was dropped into milk. It was removed immediately and wiped off an after that it worked fine. But for the last two days it will often not play sound. My side switch is flipped on and when I press the side buttons to adjust volume nothing happens. Sometimes the sound will work but only for less than a minute. Although today I updated my phone to the latest version and the sound worked for about five hours. Also, when I turn off my iPhone it turns on when I receive a text message. I don't know if this was caused by milk getting inside my iPhone or not. Can someone give me some advice?

Have you turned up the volume?
Try the buttons, or the bottom audio slider.
Does your phone normally play audio?
And have you tried to record and audio note to check if your microphone is not faulty.

Embedded QuickTime files not playing sound

I'm having trouble getting older, embedded QuickTime files to play properly. Many of them do play but without sound.
An example:

Maybe I'm overcomplicating a simple issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Some very interesting observations which peaked my own curiosity due to on-again, off-again nature of the playback. I suspect this is either a "bug" or represents content handling changes that are currently in the process of "evolving." Not a web site programmer so I used iWeb to run some contrast-comparison tests on how audio was handled by the plug-in software when directly accessing the content by its URL and via the page embed strategies. My results mirrored yours in that:
1) All legacy codecs tested (A-Law, IMA, QDM2, QPV, and u-Law) in an MOV file container played correctly in the QT 7 player.
2) The same files all played correctly when content was accessed by the plug-in software directly using the URL reference.
3) None of the files containing legacy audio compression formats would play audio using the plug-in software using a web page embedding strategy.
4) An MP4 (H.264/AAC) version of you original clip played correctly in all instances.
5) Replacing your QDM2 audio track with an AAC audio track in the original MOV file allowed the file to play correctly in all instances.
Based on these observations, I suspect the problem is in the way the software is currently programmed to handle (or rather ignore) the embedded strategy content. However, as you indicated, it is probably time to update your files. Not only did the H.264/AAC version of your original file play in all instances, but it used less than 45% of the file space/bandwidth for the settings I employed as compared to your original "0706_split_brain_red.mov" original file.

You might need to clean the headphone port (I was in the same situation and this worked for me). Dirt, dust, and debris accumulate in the port and eventually the computer registers the debris as headphones being plugged in. After cleaning the issue was resolved.
