Iphone doesn't appear in Itunes on Windows XP

Hey all.
I recently purchased a new iPhone at the same time as a friend of mine. When we first set them up I authorised my phone on her macbook and was able to sync to her iTunes, transfer apps and whatever else no problem.
Since I've got it to my home PC, though, I cannot get my Iphone to show up in iTunes at all.
I am using Windows XP Pro SP 2, plugged in to USB 2 ports and meeting all the other system requirements. The iPhone is on version 2.2.1 and iTunes is 8.0.2.20.
So far, XP recognises the iPhone and installs drivers for it to access the camera with no problems.
I have followed all the steps in the "iPhone not recognized in iTunes for Windows" support page; iTunes has been freshly reinstalled a few times, the iTunes helper, Ipod service and Apple Mobile services are all running as 'started' but still I can't get my iPhone to appear in iTunes.
Plugging it back into my friends macbook and it shows up fine, so I'm confused as to what might have gone wrong...
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Make sure you don't have any spyware or firewall software that is blocking the Apple Mobile Device Support driver from loading.

  • IPhone doesn't appear in iTunes - tried everything

    Hi there,
ok, my 3G iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes!!! I have tried reinstalling iTunes, removing the AppleMobileDevice extension, numerous restarts, hard reset the phone a couple of times. I deleted a podcast I tried to download over the air, deauthorised and authorised my iMac. Nothing!
Any other ideas. My phone does appear in iPhoto when opened. I am really lost now. I did change my AppleID recently, is that it?
Please help. I am going to try another Mac this lunch time, see if that helps. Perhaps its the phone?
    Thanks!!

Yahooo! Its fixed. At the direction of an iPhone Developer (thanks to Steve Troughton-Smith!) I installed (or possibly reinstalled) iPhoneSystemComponents.pkg and now I can sync and so on!

  • My Iphone doesn't appear in Itunes when?

My Iphone doesn't appear or connect to Itunes?
I restarted my Iphone as the support page recommended, but my Iphone just appeared for a few seconds before it disappeared.
I have updated to the latest version of Itunes and IOS and Itunes is running on a Macbook Air, so the problem is not related to windows.
I can’t find any further help at the support-page, can anybody help me?

    Did you try recovery mode?

  • IPod doesn't appear in iTunes and Windows

I have a next problem with connecting nano with Windows:
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes: iTunes 7 diagnostic write that host-controller of bus IEEE 1394 was not found.
Sometimes Windows see the demountable disk, but can't open it. Occasionally, when i charge nano, iTunes gives out the message, that iPod is damaged.
After connecting iPod to the computer, it shows the "Do not disconnect" screen, which not disappear after nano disconnecting. And I need reset iPod everytime after charging.
    Does any help me?

    I read this article.
I can't restore iPod because iPod Updater can't recognize it, when one connect to the computer.
How to solve the problem: as i wrote, iTunes diagnostic informs that can't find the controller IEEE 1394 (WiFi), but I HAVEN'T WiFi card on computer, I use USB 2.0.

  • IPhone  will not appear in iTunes on Windows 7 (64) no matter what I do.

Ok, so I recently updated my PC to Windows 7 (64), and set everything up again using Windows Easy Transfer. Originally iTunes installed using the version which the Apple Downloader picked up and was working reasonably okay. However, whilst I was playing around with the PC, I noticed that iTunes was installed in "Program Files (x86)". So i figured it must've installed the 32 bit version of iTunes on the PC instead, so off I went and uninstalled and installed the 64 bit version from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1047
During that installation, I noticed it too installs to the x86 directory so I ignored it. However, this is where the fun started. At first I noticed that as soon as I plugged in my iPhone 4, iTunes would freeze up, effectively going into a "Not Responding" mode. This would rectify however immediately after unplugging the iPhone.
So after a few attempts and getting the same result, I started searching the web for a solution. After which I tried the following: Deleting the USB drivers and attempted re-install. Drivers were deleted successfully, however once clicking on "Check for hardware changes" the Apple Device never again showed up. I then opened iTunes again, plugged in the iPhone again, and now noticed that iTunes no longer froze, however the iPhone did not appear. From this point, here is a list of all the things I have done, from both folowing the support (http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/) and other people's advice:
    - Tried a different USB port.
    - Uninstalled all Apple drivers.
    - Uninstalled all Apple Software, including Apple Mobile Device, Apple
    Automatic Update & Quicktime.
    - Searched the registry and removed all references for iTunes.
    - Deleted all iTunes folders from the computer.
    - Deleted AppData temporary folder from my profile.
    - Turned off and restarted the iPhone.
    - Checked for software conflicts.
    - Restarted the computer after each change.
    - Reinstalled Apple Automatic Update from a fresh download.
    - Reinstalled iTunes using the Automatic Update application.
From here I started iTunes again and plugged in my iPhone. This time however I got a message saying something along the lines of "cannot connect iPhone, required software is not installed, this is a 32bit version of iTunes, please uninstall and reinstall the 64bit version of iTunes (this is a little confusing as I learnt earlier that you cannot install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine as you get an error during installation).
So, again. I uninstalled all of iTunes and associated software, downloaded the 64bit version of iTunes again - thinking the original version of the EXE was corrupted somehow during the download. After reinstalling, I plugged in my iPhone. It showed that the device drivers were installing, however at some point they failed. I then went back into device manager and uninstalled the USB driver and clicked on "check for hardware changes". This time the iPhone was found and appeared to install the drivers successfully when I plugged the iPhone back in... but low and behold, the iPhone was still not showing up in iTunes.
I have spent a good few hours on this, and am getting pretty frustrated. Does anyone on here have an ACTUAL fix for this problem?
The only thing I haven't done is do a factory reset of my iPhone, which I'nm hesitant to do, as I haven't had a chance to "export my purchases" off the handset to the PC as yet.
    Cheers,
    Steve
PS: Just out of interest, the iPhone still connects perfectly fine on my work (XP) machine.

I'm an applications developer and also run a part-time videography business. As such, I require more than 3.12GB of RAM. That is the physical limitation of a 32bit system. Pointless to stay on 32bit if you plan on having more than that much RAM.
I'm also not about to pay someone to fix my PC when I can do it myself. I was originally hoping for someone who had experienced the problem before to point me in the right direction so I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure out what the issue was for myself.
Basically, in the end the problem was caused because right at the point in time when I chose to uninstall, and reinstall; Apple released a new version of iTunes. This version in turn had a requirement of iOS 4.2 to sync with the iPhone. This is a pretty embarrassing for Apple that they would release software reliant on other software before said software was released.
Had I realised I was downloading a newer version at the initial point of installation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I could've easily have rolled back iTunes to the previous version and gotten on with my life.
Another issue is that iTunes is not actually a 64 bit application. It masquerades as one to allow installation on the 64 bit platform.

  • IPhone doesn't appear in iTunes sidebar

I have tried all of the recommended steps to get my iPhone to show in the iTunes sidebar but I keep getting the message: "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." The irony is that I was able to download songs on my iPhone a month or so ago with no trouble.
One thing I notice that's different is that, when I open iTunes, a window appears titled "Apple iPhone" and instructs me to "select the program to launch for this action." However they're all camera or printer/scanner choices. I don't see the relevance to iPod or iTunes. Does anybody have any suggestions?

You might need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service.

  • My iPod Classic is in recovery mode and it doesn't appear in iTunes or Windows 8.

Okay, so my 160GB iPod Classic just decided to enter recovery mode for whatever reason. According to the troubleshooting information that I've seen, all I would need to do at that point is connect it to my computer and have iTunes recover it for me. But the problem is that neither iTunes nor Windows 8 seem to notice that it's there. Now, could someone please tell me how to recover my iPod while it's in this state?

did you try to do a soft reset?
Press MENU and the SELECT buttons simultaneously for over 10 sec.
    It should reset itself.
Then, if youc onnect it to your computer, does iTUnes recognize it?

So I am still unable to UNINSTALL AVG linkscanner for Mac and i feel this is really disrupting the mac since it doesn't update at all.
Our iPhones and iPods are all unable to sync to the imac but they just charge. Also CDs are not able to appear on the mac when inserted but the mac OS X disc was able to appear on screen.
pleasee help me get this fixed!! because the assistance we got was just saying to Restore it but I know there are other ways to fix it other than restore it

The AVG Linkscanner install .dmg includes an uninstaller (with a trash basket icon).  If you don't have the .dmg file, you can download it again here:  http://linkscanner.avg.com/Mac/index.html

  • IPhone doesn't appear in iTunes

I've followed the troubleshooting guide, reloading iTunes multiple times, restarting multiple times, and nothing has changed. iTunes works fine, my iPhone works fine, they just can't see each other.

have you tried holding down the sleep and home buttons to do a restore? if you hold them for over 10 seconds, it will tell you to connect to itunes. you should connect, then hold the buttons. you will need to restore the phone, but that might fix it.
