IPhone doesn't find WiFi (Airport Extreme)

Hi,
I'm using the latest Aiport Extreme (5th Gen) to set up my wifi. Connection from my MBP is no problem but the wifi doesn't show up on my iPhone 4. I tried to switch to different channels an different modes (802.11 a/b/g) but it doesn't work.
Is this a known issue? Can somebody help me?
Thanks, Jan

I'm having the same issue too.  My iMac running OS X Lion works fine with my AirPort Extreme, as does my iPad 2, and Apple TV.  My iPhone 4 appears connected to the same local network (on the iPhone's Settings), but the data indicator at the top of the iPhone indicates instead that it remains on 3G.
Did either of you find a resolution to this?
Thanks,
Fred

  • Scan doesn't find my Airport Extreme.

I replaced my laptop, downloaded the Airport software, but the scan function cannot find the router.  I tried unplugging the Airport, waiting, and letting it restart.  No luck.  What do I do next?

How is your printer hooked up to the Airport Extreme?
Ethernet wire or plugged into the USB port?
Scanning does not work in the USB port, only printing....
    Resolution
Note: AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule printer sharing is for printing only, not for printer utilities or other special features that may require a direct proprietary connection.

  • Airport utility 6.3.4 can not find my airport extreme 802.11ac

Sometimes the program loses contact with Airport Extreme 802.11ac with firmware 7.7.3 The internet is OK and the internettlight is green but the software seems not to find my Airport Extreme 802.11ac. The curios thing is that the airport utility app on my Iphone will find the Airport Extreme and from here I can restart it - which (obvious) solves the problem - for some time
    Probably a known problem!

The problem is with Yosemite. We have seen many posts from users with "disappearing" AirPorts, but unfortunately there does not appear to be a reliable solution at this time.
Some users have reported that turning off the Firewall on their Macs has helped with this issue. Not sure if you want to try this, and we are not really recommending that you do this, but it might be worth a try if it is important for you to be able to "see" the AirPort Extreme in AirPort Utility from your Mac.
Another check that you can perform that might help is to see if your Mac has been bitten by the Yosemite "naming" bug. To do this, open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Sharing.  Check to make sure that the name of your Mac is displayed correctly.  If you see a (2), (3), (4) etc added to the name of the Mac, edit the name to correct it and restart your Mac.
You may need to check this daily as when you have the bug, the "naming" will likely continue until we get a fix.

  • Airport Utility 5.6.1 doesn't see my Airport Extreme

I'm good with the Ethernet connection for the internet, but Airport doesn't see my Airport Extreme.  It's connected to my IMac 10.6.8.   Have tried a reset with ballpoint pen, but nothing happens.  This all went crashing down the other evening with I suddenly had lost Internet on my MacBook Pro.  This ***** so bad.  Would it do me any good to call Apple support?

OS X 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard for which you need AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
There are no special techniques to download it. Just click on the link, then click the blue Download button, which will download and eventually deposit AirPort Utility 5.6.1 in your Downloads folder.
    It looks like this:
Double-click it to extract the package installer. It looks like this:
Double-click that to open the installer:
Click Continue and follow the prompts, which will either install it in your Utilities folder or tell you a reason it cannot.
After you perform the "hard reset" and the Extreme's LED is blinking slowly, go to your Wi-Fi menu and see if you find a network called "Apple Network nnnnnn". Select it, then launch AirPort Utility.
The reason that everything is greyed out is that AirPort Utility cannot find any base stations to configure. If after doing all the above it still cannot, perform another "hard reset". If that does not work, perform a "factory defaults reset" as I explained above.
What happened at the Apple Store? Other than having a nice ballpoint pen with an Apple logo on it, they are not going to do anything more than you can do.
If you did not bring it there yet, bring your MacBook Pro along with you so that you can see for yourself how it ought to work.

  • Airport utility doesnt want to find my AirPort Extreme

    Hi,
When I open up the Airport utility it says that no units are connected while I'm clearly online on my Airport Extreme.
I tried to repair disk permissions but it didnt do anything.
Anyone got any idea why it can't find my airport extreme?
    Thanks!

I assume then that the Airport is serving your internet to you.
Can you connect to the same wired network as the Airport, perhaps using the ports on it, then try again?
Can you describe your network from wall to computer?
ie: Cable -> Modem -> Router -> Airport --wifi--> computer

  • IPhone not connecting to my Airport Extreme (password invalid)

I've been trying to get my iPhone to connect to my Airport Extreme since I got the phone, it finds my network but fails to connect when I enter the password.
I have tried changing the network password several times but nothing seems to help, The airport security is set to 40-bit wep with a password 5 digits long using only numbers.
I have been able to connect to several public Wi-Fi with or without passwords so that makes me think my problem is either the type of security I'm using or some sort of limitation regarding the length of the password.
    Thanks in advance.

there was a post earlier where someone had talked to apple about it and they were told engineering is working on it. it isn't just your router, it is happening on all of them, linksys, etc. some have found workarounds, others have to wait for engineering.

  • I-book cannot find the Airport Extreme

I have an i-book, G-3, 14" screen. I just had the logic board replaced through the Apple store because the video card died. Prior to this, I had no problem logging onto the Internet via the Airport Card and my Airport Extreme.
After the repair, I took the i-book home to find that it cannot find the Airport Extreme signal, even when the i-book is one foot away from the Airport Extreme.
I played with the Airport settings for an hour and at one point, got a very weak signal showing on the tool bar. I've tried removing/reinstalling the Airport card and antenna with no results. I've even tried resetting the Airport Extreme by depressing the reset button for 10-seconds, but get no flashing red centerlight as the instructions say I should for a hard reset.
Could this problem have something to do with the new logic board? If so, what's the fix?

Hi, and <IMG src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c55/rondaleroi/welcome.gif" to Apple Discussions.
Does adjusting the angle of the display make a difference in the signal strength?
Sometimes the AirPort antenna can get pinched in the hinge, or even broken.
I had an AirPort card that just all of a sudden quit working. I had to buy a new one. Do you know someone you could swap with to make sure it isn't the card itself? (My husband swapped his and my cards--that's how we diagnosed the bad card here.)

  • The airport utility does not find my Airport Extreme. I tried to reset the base, but I can`t make it. What can i do?

The airport utility does not find my Airport Extreme. I tried to reset the base, but I can`t make it. What can i do?

Please perform a Factory Default Reset exactly as follows:
Pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme (AEBS)
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first and continue to hold it in for at least 7-8 more seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AEBS
Release the reset button after the 7-8 second hold period
Allow 30-45 seconds for the AEBS to restart
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS
Open AirPort Utility to see if can now see the AEBS

You could try syncing the contacts with yahoo or google contacts, then sync them to the iPhone.  Or, export the contacts and then import them into one of the aforementioned servicse, or iCloud, then sync to the phone.

  • HT4145 Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?  Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?
Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Then you should be able to set it up just as you did when it was new....
Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.

  • IPhone won't work with Airport Extreme

I got my iPhone when they were released, but I still can't get it to connect to my home's Airport Extreme Wi-Fi network. My software is updated weekly, so I don't think that can be the problem. When I switch the iPhone settings to Wi-Fi, my home network appears, and the Edge icon is replaced with the Airport icon, but when I try to use the connection, it fails and I get this error message: "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server." Can anyone help me with this?

Funny you should mention it... Although I have been using my iPhone for months with various WiFi networks (including my home Airport Extreme network) I did happen to get a little dialogue box this morning with precisely the same error message. I proceeded to reset my iPhone and it happily went back to working just fine, as before.
Reset by holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears in the center of the screen.
If this is waaay obvious, and you already tried it, then never mind... It was worth a try...

  • How do I find my airport extreme connected hard drive?

I've connected a hard drive to my airport extreme...but it doesn't appear in my devices list in Finder or on my desktop...what am I doing wrong?

In addition to Kappy's comments, make sure that the drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  and that you are using a powered USB hub since the port on the AirPort Extreme is under powered.
You won't find the drive under Devices in the Finder.
Instead, look for your AirPort Extreme icon under the SHARED heading on the left of pane when you open the Finder and then click on the AirPort Extreme icon to display a folder representing your drive in the right hand side of the window.
Double click the folder to mount the drive on the desktop.

  • IPhone 5 unable to join airport extreme network, help!!!

I just bought an airpot extreme a week ago. After I configured it, my macbook pro can connect the wi-fi flawlessly. However, my iphone 5 was unable to join the airport extreme network. It sees the network, just can't join it. It doesn't say unable to join, I choose my network on my iphone, it shows it is trying to join, and never successfully joined. I've been trying miliion's way to fix this problem. I reset my iphone completely, reset my airport extreme, and reset the model, still never worked. Any idea?

Was one of the million ways that you tried.....changing the name of the wireless network on the AirPort Extreme and also changing the wireless network password?
    If not.....
Keep the wireless network name simple
Use only letters and numbers.....no special characters (like an apostrophe or asterisk, etc)
Limit of 20 characters or less in the name....8-10 would be ideal.
    No blank spaces
Same rules for the wireless network password
If that does not work, I can only conclude that the operating system on the iPhone has become corrupted....and this is an iPhone problem....not an AirPort Extreme problem.
Best to post in the iPhone support area to let the experts over there have a crack at things....but in general you will need to reset the iPhone back to its original default settings, then restore it again from your backup. If that does not work, the iPhone needs to be replaced.
