IPhone downloading songs I didn't ask it to
I have iTunes match set up on my mac and on my iPhone 4s, the problem is it always seems to be downloading songs I never asked it to.
for example, I have Neil youngs greatest hits, I'd only downloaded 2 songs so far and went into the music player in my phone to play them.
I click to play one song that I've downloaded (the next one has a cloud icon beside it) and sure enough it plays, all good.
but I notice a spinning wheel and I'm confused, I went into iTunes only to find my phone was downloading the NEXT album track, I never asked it to do this!
I have a very similar problem. I just tried posting about it but Apple won't let me send the post. Apple also won't tell me why I can't send the post. So I'm replying to your 3 year old entry.
My problem is that when I connect my phone to my car using the car's USB port, it automatically plays/downloads the first songs in my iTunes account, alphabetically speaking, even if I didn't download the songs prior. So, if I forget to switch off "Show All Music" before plugging in, ABC by the Jackson 5 comes on. EVERY TIME!
I thought this was because my phone was old (iPhone 4). But with my new iPhone 6 its even worse, because I CANNOT REMOVE THE SONGS! I've tried every single method for removing songs and they still show up when I open Music.
I was wondering if you found some way to remove the cached (if that's what you call it) songs.
Any response is appreciated.

I just recieved my new laptop last week, I installed itunes about three days ago. the software has always been problematic for me, but nothing like this before. When I tried to download some songs, I forgot to authorize first, so It goes through them one by one, giving me an error or every 4-5 songs about how i need to authorize. Next, I try to authorize. upon doing this, it acts like it is now downloading some of the songs, showing them being acquired, without me asking it to. it then procedes to crash giving a generic "has stopped working" message. the weird part is, the song it thought it was downloading, there are no trace of in my itunes music folder. and it went through a few before crashing. (one at a time, simulataneous downloads was not on yet, so i know some had finished) now when i try to relaunch, it starts fine until it attempts to connect to the store. I can see my library for all of 2-3 seconds before it says "acessing the store" and then crashes. same generic error. "has stopped working and needs to close" does itunes save any crash dumps I can take a look at? is this a common issue or have i somehow corrupted my account serverside? It also seems kinda weird there isnt a number i can call to get support without having to pay for it. I've already bought over 75 albums and even a ton of individual purchases over the years, not even including my original itunes account that was lost that had even more!
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting, registry cleaning and restoring, installing with admin, running in compatibility mode, installing quicktime (which isnt even listed as usable for windows 8!) etc etc.
I really need some help. this issue even leaped across to my desktop pc with windows 7 as well. and my mom's old xp desktop, but only when using my account. the only explanation I can think of is something serverside has messed in regards to my cloud data/user id.I found the answer. Apple was downloading Apps that are on my new iPhone to iTunes. I deleted them as I don't need them on my WIndows PC.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

ITunes Match keeps downloading songs on iPad 2
I have an iPad 2 anud turned on iTunes Match. I realized that I was downloading doubles of songs onto my iPad via my playlists (Purchased AAC and AAC) and I turned some of the songs off and I went to the iTunes store to purchase a new album and found out I was downloading and I have automatic downloads turned off on my iPad. Why is that happening and how do I get it to stop. Do I turn off iTunes Match and the see all downloaded and then sync?? Need help... My 16 gigs is filled up so when I delete a few downloaded songs I didn't even download from the cloud, it downloads more. It's a vicious cycle
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
I would suspect, but not certain, you should go ahead and turn Match On before the reset, but it just as easily could be irrelevent.
Woudl also add that the first time I turn iTunes Match On on the iPad, it turned out to be best to let it site and run a few minutes before attempting anything. But I have a sizable (17,000 track) library. After that all was well. -
Dear community, I'm experiencing a problem since 2 days, that if I sign in in my iTunes account with my Apple ID on my iPhone it doesn't show at the end if scrolling down the ID details and credit anymore. If I try to download songs I bought once but which are not on this device anymore, it asks me 3 times for the ID and password. I fill it in but at the end nothing happens. I see only in the middle a moving symbol.
What can I do? Apple ID and password are correct . I canceled all settings but same as before.

I have an iPhone and recently bought an iPod 4 touch what l am using the same apple ID for. The iPod won't let me download songs from iTunes it is asking me security questions which I don't think I have put answers to in the first place, because of this it won't let me buy any songs on iTunes
It's probably asking you to verify the security code found on the back of your credit card.

Why do I have to download songs/albums onto my iphone when I have icloud and purchased the songs from itunes? I thought the purpose of purchasing from itunes when you have icloud is that you don't have to download each song/album that you want to hear. I get like 5-10 songs from the last two albums i have downloaded, but not the entire album.
Are you talking about iTunes Match? If so, you don't have to download entire albums, all you have to do is play the songs you want to hear.
If you're asking why you have to download the music at all rather than just playing it from iCloud, the music has to be stored locally on your device, either in permanent or cache memory, in order for your device to play it. -
How to stop songs I didn't buy/download from playing in shuffle?
There are about 30-40 songs that showed up on my new IPhone 6 that I didn't buy or download. I understand these are from Icloud and thought I had solved the issue by going to Settings -> Music and turning off Show All Music. However, when my phone is in shuffle mode, it still plays these songs. Based on another recommendation, I went to Settings -> Cellular and turned off Music. This also did not help. I don't have ITunes Match so I don't think that's it. How do I turn this off???
iTunes is not designed to do what is being attempted. Sync is one way, computer to iDevice. The only exception is purchases from iTunes which can be transferred from an iDevice to the computer via Files > Transfer Purchases.
Content that was not purchased via iTunes cannot be extracted via iTunes to the computer. There are 3rd party software programs that will provide this functionality, search google for some options.
Alternatively, copy/move the media from the original computer to the new computer. Ultimately it is up to the user to manage their content and move it to new computers. -

it declines it when u put in a different card that has $ available on it? have u updated the billing address to match the new card?

Select the songs and go to Edit > Delete. Then, download the music in iTunes Store -
I bought a new macbook air pre loaded with Lion. while setting up the system, I just input the user name, and didn't set any password.
But now when I wanna download stuff off safari, it asks me for password. The user name appears (the same one which I set) but it keeps on asking me the password which I never set. Can some one please help me. Thanks!I did it like that, but for the purpose of not having to type my password every time since I'm installing a lot of programs, and yes, it asks for the password, but do not type anything and just click "ok" or "install", since you haven't set a password it should let you go through. I guess it asks for the "password" just to let you know it will install something, but just click ok.
I will set up a password once i have install everything in System Preferences/Users & Groups

How can I download my iPhone's songs to a new computer? (I don't have old computer or hard drive)
My old computer is crashed so, I want to download songs from iphone to my new computer. I want to download them in my new windows computer in MP3 format if possible.
Thanks!If the music was purchased in iTunes, then you would just have to redownload those purchases in the iTunes store in iTunes. If the music was pulled from CDs you would have to pull them from the CD's again.

Why when I try to download songs onto my iPhone from my iPad, it pops up and says "This device is already associated with an Apple ID, You can download past purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 90 days
(Note, mine says 28 days because I have been waiting for a fair bit for this to go away.)You can't keep changing the ID you use with iTunes, you are limited to once every 90 days.
