IPhone dropping calls when around Verizon FIOS router

Hello,
I have first generation of iPhone running 2.2.1. At home I have Verizon FIOS. I have noticed that at home if I dont switch off wifi on my iPhone, I get dropped phone calls. If I am connected to wifi and I make a phone call, within a minute or two I can not hear a thing. If I switch off wifi on my iPhone and make calls then everything goes fine. This is also true when I am receiving calls. I dont have this problem when I am around routers other than the FIOS router I have at home. Has anyone experienced this and know how to fix it?

i have FIOS but i haven't experienced that problem because i have the wifi in the FIOS router turned off and have an Airport Extreme bridged to the FIOS router supplying the wifi.
if you don't have any wifi devices then maybe you can just turn off the wifi in the FIOS router.

  • Can I disable my Verizon Fios Router Wireless radio, connect it to a switch and use my airport express as my wireless access point connected to an in wall ethernet port?

Here's the deal.  I have a Verizon Fios MI424WR router.  My house has CAT5 throughout the house.  The media panel is located in the garage.  I want to take the Verizon Fios Router and cannot it in the media panel so I can connect a switch to it, that way, all my CAT5 can fire throughout the house. Verizon being Verizon decided to connect the router directly in the office.
Can I go this route (Router in media panel, switch cross connect to it) and use Airport Express, connected to one of the in-wall CAT5 ports in my house and then set it up as my wireless access point to provide wifi to my portable devices (iPad, iPhone, Macbook)?  Is this possible? Will Airport Express comminicate with my verizon router via ethernet in-wall? Do I have to turn off the wireless radio in the Verizon router?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is right, by hard wired I was just making clear wired vs wireless attachment.  AirPort family of devices will only act in a repeater mode with their own family members, not FiOS routers.  they have to be wired to work.
There are some useful docs you can download from Apple, Support, Manuals, Peripherals, AirPort (just follow thos links from the Support button on the top bar):
    Apple AirPort Networks
    Designing AirPort Networks
    AirPort Express Setup Guide
The last has a diagram of what you are trying to do, though without the house wiring, etc., but the basic principle.

  • Trouble connecting wirelessly via Verizon FiOS router

    I am using a Titanium G4 Powerbook, OS 10.4.11.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to a Verizon FiOS router. These are set to broadcast on different channels.
Our iMac is connected to the FiOS via Ethernet: no problem getting online.
Other Mac notebooks can connect wirelessly using either the Airport or the FiOS.
This notebook can connect via Airport; however when logged into the FiOS wirelessly, and getting a strong signal, I cannot connect. Diagnostics tells me "ISP failed"; Airport tells me I have a self-assigned IP address.
It seems I have some setting wrong somewhere?

    Why 2 routers?
-- only the AE can broadcast Airtunes
-- but the AE only has one hard-wired ethernet port (I need one for my imac and one for my ethernet printer)
-- and the FiOS router's wireless signal is stronger, I can get it in more parts of the house.
Thus the imac can be on via FiOS while the laptops are on via either FiOS or AE.
As long as both routers aren't distributing IP addresses on the same schema, should it matter?
I'll admit it would be easier to use only the FiOS router, but then no Airtunes. And I can't log onto the FiOS wirelessly, as I explained in my original post.

  • Time capsule remote access with verizon Fios router

I got a new 5gen time capsule. I'm trying to remotely access some files I transferred into the TC. The TC is on bridge mode with my Verizon Fios router. Is there a way to access my files remotely if so how do I set up.

The Fios router should offer ddns service from several of the providers.
Typical ones are dyndns and noip
but there are a fair number of them.. just the client has to be included in the firmware of the router.
Static public IP is the best option by far, but most ISP will only offer it with their business plans which are so much more expensive that it is not worth it. Some cable services will not offer it at all as their plans are all domestic.
Anyway the info is a phone call away and see how much extra it costs if it is offered.
Otherwise check the router for what ddns services are supported and join one.. they are free to a few dollars a month for low use service.

  • How can i use a second router to replace verizon fios router?

Okay so just as the title says how do i use a second router? I got a cisco valet router... I don't know how to use it because the verizon router/modem is wierd i know how to use a router if i only had a modem but fios gives router/modem so how can i use my 2nd router? The current verizon fios router/modem is b/g mode and i wanna change to b/g/n so i can get a better speed from my internet... SO how can i use my 2nd router? I tried this http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking#12506 but i don't get it can someone guide me better or make a video explaination on how to use a 2nd router? I have it connected with see as in pic i connect from my router Internet port to wan port and the ethernet lan port to the ethernet lan port on verizon fios and no work please help...

OK, so with this, we have a few options. You appear to have a MoCa connection to the ONT, hence the coaxial cable being present.
1: The ActionTec can be bridged to the Valet router. This will not require any additional cabling, however it will require a small amount of work to have working. You will also require the ActionTec still in the mix, even though it will not be acting as a router anymore with this configuration.
Visit http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 and look at Option 4. There is a thread linked that will allow you to set up the ActionTec as just a MoCa bridge, and will pass the Public IP to your router. You will, in order for this to work once the ActionTec is bridged, need to connect the cable from your Valet router's Internet port, to the ActionTec's LAN port and nothing else goes to the ActionTec. From this point, your Valet should run as your primary and everything should connect through your Valet. If you are adding another router, a Netgear N300, you should perform the LAN to LAN setup, which we will talk about once you've got the Valet working correctly. LAN to LAN configs require a custom setup, so do not set up the Netgear for now.
2: This is my preferred method, which would be to run an Ethernet cable to the ONT. Option 6 in the FAQ. This will require spaking to Verizon to have them move your ONT to Ethernet, but once they do this, you can disconnect the Coaxial Cable from your ActionTec router, and plug in your CAT5/CAT6 cable from the ONT to the ActionTec's Internet/WAN port. Use the ActionTec to ensure everything is working after the switchover, and once off the phone, log into the ActionTec, perform a DHCP Release, and then prompty power off the ActionTec. Once this is done, plug the CAT6 cable into your Valet router's Internet port. You should from this point, be able to connect to the Cisco, and if the DHCP Lease was broken successfully, the Cisco should begin serving up your Internet connection. If it does not, leave the Cisco powered off for a few hours to break the DHCP lease, and then power it up. If the Valet does not work, still, give the Valet a factory reset and set up this router again, with the Ethernet cable from the ONT connected to it.
I would just take a good luck at the FAQ linked above again, and see what would work the best. Easiest thing to do is to get the ONT moved to Ethernet, which allows you to eliminate the ActionTec unless you need it in the future for TV service, and also allows you to use any router with ease.
Once the Valet is up and running and holds your Public IP address from Verizon (use http://whatismyip.com/ to determine this) , and also serves up IPs to devices on your network, post back and we can help you set up the Netgear. If you have any issues while setting this up, fall back to the ActionTec. It's factory reset will work without configuration needed, regardless of you being on Coax or Ethernet.

  • How do i bridge my extreme with a Verizon FIOS router?

how do i bridge my extreme with a Verizon FIOS router?

Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) cannot be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. Although it can "join" the Verizon's wireless network, doing so its Ethernet ports will NOT be enabled for wired clients.

  • Unable to connect to Verizon Fios Router after Snow Leopard upgrade

After upgrading to Snow Leopard on the three-year-old iMac, I am unable to connect wirelessly to the Verizon Fios router, and what's worse, the Fios rep couldn't solve it either. She thought that it was an Apple software issue. Any ideas? My other two Macs are still connecting to the router without a problem and the MacBook is using Snow Leopard also.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Verizon Fios Router

My Internet connection is wireless to a Verizon Fios router. The router has 4 LAN connections and 1 WAN connection. The WAN connection is used for some purpose (I think it may have something to do with TV on demand). Can I connect my Time Capsule to this router through its LAN connection, and if so, what port should I use on the time capsule side? I can't seem to get an Internet connection to work from the time capsule.

You would connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the Fios router to the WAN port on the Time Capsule.
The key setting in this configuration is to put the Time Capsule in bridge mode. With AirPort Utility - Manual Setup, click the Internet icon. Look for Connection Sharing at the bottom of the page. This must be set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".

  • Verizon FIOS router Actiontec MI424WR not working with bonjour printing

Running OS X ver 10.9.3. Have a HPLaserJetP1102w. Just upgraded my Verizon FIOS router to Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I. Now my Mac can no longer find the printer wirelessly (it does, however, work thru USB). I see others have had this problem- and apparently some have solved it by changing settings on the router- but those settings options do not appear under 'advanced' for me. Verizon technical support, including the version one must pay for- was totally and utterly unable to help. Any suggestions for how to rescue this? Was all working perfectly with older Verizon router.

    >It's amazing to me that talkting to 4 or 5 Verizon Tech's, they all say "This is new to me,  I've never heard of this."  Ugh...
I've had EXACTLY the same experience. Phone support and the techs who come to my home apparently have no idea this has been happening for months and months. Clearly, this issue hasn't filtered down from the network engineers to support.

Odd that a hard-reboot was required.  THis worked for me, too.  Thanks for the post!

  • IPhone dropping calls even when it had bars

My I phone4 is constantly hanging up or dropping calls in the middle of a conversation. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Well, for some reason I have trouble on rare occasions with one particular person I talk to. What makes it even weirder, it happens with both their landline and his cell phone which he says are on different networks (T-Mobile and Verizon, I think). When it acts up, I can lose the call several times in just a few minutes.
I took my phone into the apple store to have them check. They said it didn't show any dropped calls which, they said, meant it had to be a problem with the other network.
That may be true, but it could also be an excuse. I've yet to have this happen when talking to anyone else though.
Another possibility is that you have the proximity sensor problem. Since I saw you only posted once, you may not be familiar with it but, in short, the screen can come on, even when against your ear and if the screen is on, your cheek can activate buttons, including the one to end the call! You could also get muting, speaker phone, even calling someone else!
There are tons of discussions about it here and arguments over what the cause is (one thread is 90 pages long and it was a continuation of two previous very long threads!).
Check what version of the operating system you have. The original was 4.0. The next update (4.0.1) basically just changed the signal bar calculations with the result that they are more accurate, but will give fewer bars for the same signal on 4.0.
Next came 4.1 which did something to change the sensor issue. It worked for some, not for others, and some said it made it worse! But, in general, it seemed to increase the power to the sensor and I'd say helped more people than it hurt.
The latest version (4.2.1) didn't say anything about changes in sensor operation, but I know from my tests they definitely changed something.
As before, some say it got worse or didn't change - but I've only seen a handful who said that so it may be nothing more than the amount of problems that seem to happen with any update going out to millions of people. A larger number have said it finally fixed theirs.
Those are the two main things I'd look for - a problem that only happens with certain calls, especially if on a particular network. And the possible proximity sensor problem.
One thing you can do to check the sensor is to go to your settings and turn the screen brightness to max (probably turning off the automatic option). I found that when the screen came on, I could miss it at the usual setting, but on bright, it got my attention. This also depends on how you hold it. If against your cheek, it may not make any difference since you'd be covering the screen up.
There is a app for 99 cents called "Call Guard". After starting a call, you run the app and it gives a blank screen so you can't activate any buttons. You can still hang up by pressing the top button or by pressing the home button to quit the app and then going back to the phone app to hang up.
But one really nice thing about the app is that when active, it marks and numbers every time your face touches the screen (if the screen ever comes on). So you could use this for awhile and check after each call to see if there were any touches. If not, the problem probably isn't the sensor.

  • Very poor coverage - just got an iphone 5s - typically 1-2 bars.  Dropped calls when I switch rooms.  Right in the middle of Palo Alto/Stanford area - zip code 94305

Crazy - never had any issues with AT&T - thinking about going back.....  Brand new iphone 5S. I've reset the network, disabled and enabled imessaging. Any thoughts?

        Kent,
We do not want to see you go. Thank you for all the troubleshooting you have done thus far. I do not see any service alerts in your area. Do you only have issues inside your home with dropped calls? Do you also have issues with data and text? Are you connected to Wifi in your home?

  • Verizon FIOs router and Aiport Card slow performance

    Hey all,
Yesterday I switched from DSL to Verizons FIOs. Everything is working great with my PowerMac G4 which is hardwired to the ActionTec M1424WR wireless router, and an old PC laptop which is wireless.
The problem I’m having is with an iMac G5 wireless connection to the ActionTec router. I can connect to the internet but the pages load slower than DSL.
I started by talking with Apple Care a couple of times with no luck. I emptied the Cashe and reset Safari. I’ve also checked for interference from other sources like other routers in the area. And it’s not a distance problem because the connection strength is as high as it can be. The speed tests I’ve run say the download speeds a great. (5.12Mbps) But it still takes 30 seconds for a page to load.
In talking to a tech guy at Verizon (who knows Macs and networks), we thought it might be the WEP or the transmition rate. We turned off the WEP and set the transmition rate to “Auto” in the router control panel. But still no luck.
The Verizon tech is checking with ActionTec. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. And I will let you all know what Verizon says.
    Thanks,
    mekg4
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Several weeks ago I said I would let everyone know how things progressed with getting my slow FIOs connection issuse resolved. So here’s what took place.
The first Verizon technician I talked with had me turn off the routers WEP encryption, then I changed the transmition rate setting to automatic. After having no effect he said he would call me back after talking to Actiontec. I never heard from him again.
During my second call to Verizon, tech support set up a conference call with a technician at Actiontec. After a brief discussion the Actiontec technician was sure the problem was with the wireless card in my computer. So after getting no help from Verizon or Actiontec I decided to give up on the Actiontec router an go back to my Netgear router.
After reconnecting my Netgear router I discovered I had a new problem. My Netgear router would not automatically configure. So I called Verizon tech support a 3rd time. I spent a half hour on the phone trying to configure my Netgear router manually. But this was a waste of time because no one at Verizon was sure what the correct router settings are because routers are designed to configure automatically.
Next I called Netgear to find out why the router was not configuring automatically. After spending $32.00 to talk to Netgear tech support he had me eliminate the router by going straight to my Mac to see if I could get an internet connection. And there was no connection.
So I called Verizon tech support a 4th time. I finally got someone I felt could really help. He told me that in order to connect the new router he would have to clear the IP Address that was assigned to my Actiontec router. The other option is to leave the router unplugged for as much as 4 hours. This too, will clear the IP Address. Once he cleared the old IP Address I reconnected my Netgear router and it configured automatically and I was back on the net. Now, web pages on my wireless iMac are loading in 3-5 seconds instead of 30 seconds.
However, there is just one more thing. After a short time my Netgear router began to freeze when I tried watching a 480p HD movie trailer. Then again when I went to the iTunes music store. Each time I had to turn of the router, wait 30 seconds then turn it back on. I emailed Netgear tech suppport and their response was to log into the router control panel:
1 Go to the WAN Setup.
2 Reduce the MTU to 1400,1456,1484 or 1492
3 Deselect "Disable the SPI firewall"
I tried setting the MTU to 1400 first and that seemed to work for a while. Then it started freezing again. I have the MTU set to 1456 now and it seems to be working so far.
I hope this information will be of help to anyone upgading to Verizon FIOs Internet.

  • IPhone dropping calls in Prospect Road (near Cupertino Apple Headquarters)

I was a devoted Verizon customer for several years because of its network availaibility and reliability. It worked in all places in the silicon valley even though it took a while to establish a call (when compared to typical VOIP or land line).
I recently switched to ATT (GSM) because of Iphone experience and I want to see how it works. I live less than 2 miles from Cupertino HQ in a road named Prospect road. When I dial to a landline, calls gets dropped when the call is picked (3G is on). I do have 2.1 version of FW in the phone already.......
Very sad situation for a new customer like me and I am contemplating on returning the phone back to ATT (less than a month agreement) if it continues to behave like this. Ofcourse, I can turn off 3G - but that defeats the purpose of paying $199 for this phone plus a 2 year agreement. It is becoming like MSFT OS (blue screen equivalent......and rebooting). This is 2008 15+ years since GSM was introduced and yet we have unstable environment of operation for a high flying phone right in the silicon valley (close to Cupertino HQ).

Hello sorry to see you are not able to use 3G
What kind of troubleshooting have you done so far? Posted below are some suggestions that may assist.
    1. Reboot iPhone. Hold down home button and Sleep/Wake button together till you see a silver apple logo. Once you see this let go. Allow iPhone to reboot. Once it is backup and running. Check 3G.
    2. Toggle Airplane mode on for 1 min, Go to Settings - Airplane Mode - Turn on for 1 min then off and check 3G.
    3. Toggle 3G network off for 1 min, Settings - General - Network - 3G off, wait 1 min, turn back on.
    4. Reset Network Settings - Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings - Confirm - Check 3G when iPhone boots back up.
    5. Remove the SIM card, and then Insert SIM card back into tray

  • Network Extender Dropping Calls when handing off to Outdoor Network

If I stand right next to my network extender, it works great.  the moment I move outside a 15 ft ring, I begin to drop calls.  i believe it is because my Blackberry is now getting a stronger signal from the outdoor network and I should be handing off to outdoor network.  Instead of the call continuing, it drops.    Also, the same thing happens when I am on a call inside my house, get into my car and drive away; I drop the call.  I have called VZW Tech support and was told to power down the unit, yadda, yadda, yadda and call back if I still have the problem. Well, I still have the problem, so I am posting this in the hope someone has seen this and it saves me the hour long support call that doesn't resolve my issue...

I have the exact same problem with a Verizon/Samsung network extender that started dropping calls after about 30 seconds into a conversation. This problem started at almost the exact same time as those reported on this forum. Verizon has not once mentioned that it may be a problem on their end and we quit using the extender almost a year ago. However, with new smart phones in the household and multiple reception problems, we need to find a solution. I think Verizon owes its customers/supporters a solution since it sold the extender devices to the consumers at substantial expense. I for one, would like to either get my money back along with the time spent trying to rectify the problem, or get a solution that will allow us to carry on conversations in our home. It is ridiculous with the amount of money spent on monthly Verizon Phone bills, that we get such poor service - simply ridiculous!
