IPhone Ear Speaker Volume

I am having a tough time figuring out how to increase the volume of ear speaker phone for calls - I can hardly hear the person on the other line. I tried the volume switch on the side and it does not seem to do anything.

if this is a brand new phone, it came with the screen surrounded by a plastic cover, this is intented for shipping only as it blocks the earpiece. I recomend buying a screen protector personally but the one that came with the iPhone is not meant to be used and makes it impossible to hear when using the phone. It was designed for shipping only and designed to be removed upon unboxing.
hope this helps

I think this is a hardware problem and getting to replace a Earphone Speaker.
Does anyone knows is this software or a hardware problem?
Its works fine over BT or earpiece.
I can only hear at very low volume.
    Thanks,

i just did this with my moms original iPhone. before the update the volume was fine, after it got noticeablly low. i could bearly hear anything. used the sim card eject tool that came with my 3GS and poked at the speaker very lightly and noticed it got higher. i dont get how its related to the 3.0 software update but that fixed the problem for some strange reason?

  • IPhone Ear Speaker Failure

After but one week, my iPhone ear speaker quit working.  People could hear me talk, but I couldn't hear them through the earpiece.  But if I switched to "speaker" mode, I could hear them. Weird.  Local dealer simply gave me a new iPhone.  But I'm wondering: Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm having the same problem. Did the recommendation of plugging in the earphones in/out about 8 times resolve the problem?

  • IPhone 3G speaker volume extremely LOW

Hi my GF's iPhone 3G OS2.2, the volume is sooo low she has to put the phone to speaker to hear anyone, this is not practical and very inconvenient.
Should she take the phone back to the store?
    -Ryan

I have had similar problems with Speaker volume since installing I-dicto (voice recorder) and Lonely planet Spanish translator. Both should play through the external speakers at reasonable volume and neither would. I corrected the problem by adjusting the VOLUME LIMIT under settings/i pod. IT was maxed so I turned it down and then back up. I also changed the EQ to small speakers. Honestly I'm not sure which one fixed the problem but both programs have decent volume now. I later changed the EQ to some other settings just to check and they all seemed to work fine. It's as if something was stuck and messing with these settings dislodged it. Overall I find the i phone speaker volume disappointing but what can you do?

  • Low ear speaker volume

I upgraded to lollipop and I believe it has caused the volumes on the phone to become quiet compared to how they used to be.
When on a call I can't hear the caller very well and if travelling in a car as a passenger it is impossible to hear the caller speaking above the road noise.
When watching a film the sound balance is heavily towards the bottom speaker where before it was fairly even or at least not as noticeable. The ring tone quality also sounds poor.
I nearly sent my phone back for repair however the more I read, the more it seems to be a result of the latest android update.
Has anyone else come across this issue?
Sony, when is the update due to fix this?
    Thanks,
    sparky

    haphuquy I'm glad to hear!
tah306 - I assume you've tried the things I've mentioned earlier in this thread about safe mode etc? If you have, this does sound like a hardware issue to me, but to make sure you should try to repair the phone software via  PC Companion.
Before repairing your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to.
    How to backup?
If the issue should still remain I think that this needs to be examined and fixed at a repair center. For more information about how to submit your phone for repair and where, contact your local support team.

  • IPhone 4s speaker volume goes really loud after Siri or speaker phone?

Anyone else notice the speaker phone volume goes really loud on the 4s after using Siri, voice memo, or speaker phone in general? Even when the volume is set low (like one or two) any thoughts? Not for games, music, or movies though.

I apoligize, after I wrote this then it showed like four other threads about it. Sorry for the re-thread.

  • IPhone 4 ear speaker not working

Looking for more info regarding this problem..
Purchased iPhone 4 for my wife and I last month.
My iPhone ear-speaker went dead, but the external speaker, plug-in wired ear-phones work, and mic still work.
I went to take it in, and then the darn thing started working again. lol  Same thing happened early this week - not working, then it started working again.
Now my wife's iPhone 4 is starting to do the same thing. argh!
Not really sure if it's hardware or software.. but anyone else on this forum experiencing this same problem?

Yes. My Bluetooth on my iPhone 4 is enabled (to sync with my car).
But my wife's iPhone 4's Bluetooth is not.
I Googled this "ear-speaker problem" and found a few other reports, but no solutions (on Apple support forums).
Just wondering if the people of this forum encountered the same thing.. thanks for your fast reply !

  • IPhone 5 YouTube sound is coming through Ear-Speaker (Not from main speaker).

I’m using Safari and Chrome to watch YouTube videos, but this morning I realize that sound is very low, later I realized that sound is coming through ear-speaker and main speaker is not working for YouTube media. Any advice?!?
Everything else is working perfect, music, ringtone, alarm all sounds coming through main speaker but all safari and chrome media is using Ear-Speaker. Really frustrating, I really think that buying iPhone5 was mistake.

I Have a similar problem occurred on my iPhone 5 , after install iOS 8 I can hear by ear speaker but the mic didn't work also volume bottoms didon't work,
my ear speaker still new in a good condition.

  • What move to make for iphone speaker volume

I have been reading all kinds of goods and bads about the iphones speaker volume over the last week. Yes ipod sounds good to me (Not to where I would ever wanna listen to it in speaker mode.) And NO, my speaker phone does not sound good. Way too low. Im starting to wonder if the people in the forums are saying theirs sounds fine because they have only tested it where there is silence. I'm not looking to be able to hear any speaker phone in the middle of a crowded bar, but I can not even hear it when it is all the way up and sitting beside me in the car, with the windows up. I find myself grabbing it and putting it right near my ear. So....... has anyone determined if this is a software issue or a hardware issue? Should I be bringing my iphone back or wait out the software update? I am surprised that with the release of the phone and all the questions being posted there is no portal for apple employees or techs to address some of these questions like a faqs page targeting some of the consistent questions over the last week. And don't get me wrong I love my iphone and i am not amongst the crew of people in these forums bashing it. Never owned a blackberry or treo or any of that stuff. I said years ago i will purchase something like that when apple puts one out. Never owned a pc in my life and I embrace this phone.

has anyone determined if this is a software issue or a hardware issue?
I assume since the iPod is capable of putting a fair bit of volume through the earpiece that it's a software problem. Have you turned-off volume limits in Settings?
Should I be bringing my iphone back or wait out the software update?
Tough call, if you're trying to decide by the 14 day window. Call Apple under warranty service, tell them if they can't guarantee a volume fix you're going to have to return the phone?
You can ask Apple for iPhone changes via this link:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html Though if you're requesting hardware changes for iPhone v2 you may want to wait a week (or a month?)...they're probably going to be inundated right now by requests for software changes to the current iPhone.

  • How can I increase the speaker volume on my iphone

I have a 3G iphone. After 3 trouble-free days the speaker volume dropped drastically. I can barely hear what is being said. The unit still works well on a handsfree basis. A colleaugue had the same problem but the fault corrected itself. I have of course tried the toggle switches at the side of the phone. Any ideas?
    jim

I went into the Apple store yesterday for the same issue. My speakerphone when being used in my car is barely audible. I can't even hear it if I hold it to my ear...but I'm in a convertible. When I'm in my SUV, it's not much better though. In fact, when placing a call, I can barely hearing it dialing. However, I tested all the Iphones on display in Apple and the speakerphones were very low too as was the dialing mode. They agreed that the speakerphone is low but it is the way it works. They suggested using an earpiece, which I hate. I am using a Motorokr T505 speaker box in my car for now. The speakerphone is okay if I"m in an absolutely quiet environment, which is just not the case when driving.

  • Iphone 6 ear speaker problem

i havs iphone 6 at&t un locked bought couple of days back its ear speaker is not working during call .. i have to plug in hands free to listen how can i fix it ?

    Hello there, ehtisham.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for trouleshooting issues with hearing and sound quality on a call from your iOS device:
If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound quality is poor on iPhone
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5196
    Turn up the volume
While you're on a call, adjust the volume with the volume buttons:
Also while you're on a call, make sure that you can see the volume indicator on the screen when you press the volume buttons:
    Check the connections
If your iPhone is connected to a headset, you won't be able to hear through the iPhone receiver or using speakerphone. Follow these steps, testing after each.
Make sure that you don't have anything plugged in to the headphone jack or the dock connector.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
    Clear the receiver
The iPhone receiver won't work properly if it's blocked or dirty. Here's where the receiver is:
Follow these steps, testing after each:
Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver, such as a case or film.
If you have a new iPhone, remove the plastic film on the front and back of the device.
Check the receiver opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the receiver opening with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
While you're on a call, turn on speakerphone. If you still can't hear, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try calling again later or from a different location.
    Restart and update
Restart your iPhone and test again.
If there's still no sound or poor sound quality, update to the latest version of iOS.

If you've tried these steps and there's still no sound or poor sound quality from your iPhone, contact Apple Support.

  • IPhone 4 ear speaker not working after 2 restores and cleaning the headphone socket.

    Hi,
I know this problem is not uncommon, but here goes...
I have an iPhone 4 which was running iOS 5.1.1 a few days ago when the ear speaker stopped working.  I cant hear the other person when I make or recieve a call, but nothing else is wrong with the phone.  It is 18 months old.
I've searched the discussions and seen some of the suggestions.  I tried cleaning out the headphone socket, with no luck.  I then tried a full restore and update to iOS 6.  This appeared to have worked.  I tried 2 calls and I could hear the other person.  I then left the phone alone for a couple of hours and when I tried it again, it had stopped working again.
I have since done another full restore but the speaker is still not working at all.  The fact that it worked after the first restore suggests it's something simple or software related but I have no idea what else to try other than getting it repaired in a shop.  The problem is I am in Japan where my network (Softbank) and an independent repair shop have both quoted me the equivalent of $176 / £110 to fix it.
Does anyone know anything else I can try before I give in and end up shelling out this ridiculous cost for something that is probably a 20 minute fix?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem with my ear speaker after my IOS 6 upgrade. My speakers work, bluetooth works, the earphones work, but the ear speaker doesn’t work. I noticed this IMMEDIATELY after the upgrade was completed. I also have the following problems:
-Very slow call connect time. 30 - 45 seconds just to connect is typical. Signal strength is 5 bars (ATT)
    -Problems attaching to known networks
-Very slow internet browsing with many timeouts on both the ATT 3G service and known Wi-Fi networks.
    - My camera was missing after the IOS 6 upgrade. I restored that from Restrictions inside of the Settings App
    - Music was so screwed up it was easier to just restore it
I went to the Apple store hoping to get some support. Between my wife, my son, and myself we have purchased 4 iPhones and an iPad over the last few years with plans to purchase another iPad in a month or so. So it’s not like I' not familiar with Apple Technology and their typical level of support.
The individual who waited on me was rude and condescending. He insisted that all of the problems were hardware related or ATT’s fault, or my fault. He further asserted that IOS 6 had NOTHING to do with any of the problems. I pointed out that it would be quite a coincidence for my hardware to break, for ATT to have network problems, and for me to suddenly forget how to use an iPhone at the same exact moment that IOS 6 had been installed. He maintained his position and offered to sell me another phone.
I don’t expect the folks in the store to reprogram the OS. Mistakes happen. I’m going to guess that Apple’s OS programmers are already working on a fix for many of the IOS 6 complaints that are easy to find on Google. Assigning blame to the customer and denying any responsibility is not a model for success or customer service. I’m sure Apple wouldn’t accept that kind of excuse from their component manufacturers and don’t think it is how they should deal with their customers. Further, Apple wants to own the device. They want to control the apps, the OS, battery, the delivery channel. I’m good with that so long as when there is a problem, they own that as well.
And BTW… I’m not including the maps in my list of issues with IOS 6 because I kind of like the new maps and am willing to give Apple the benefit of the doubt. I believe that their map service will get a lot better in a hurry.
