IPhone Eating Credit

Appologies for posting here it does relate to the OS4 and I am in desperate need of some help and advice.
Hi everyone I am in desperate need of some help. I have just got an Iphone 3G and use pay as you go on the Orange Network. I topped up with £15.00 pounds and within 2 days it was down to £3. I had made 4 calls and sent 3 texts. I have read that the iphone eats credit because it is always connecting to the internet is this true? and how do i stop it from continuosly connecting to the internet.
Also I have Enable 3G, Data Roaming switched off but cannot switch the EDGE off. I have read that the new OS4 allows you to turn off the Cell Data I am currently running OS 3.1.3 which is unlocked. What I want to know is it worth downloading the OS4 and turning off the Cell Data and will this stop the Iphone from constantly connecting to the internet and eating my credit.
Sorry if this is long winded but the essence of it is that my Iphone is eating my credit.
Thank You for taking the time to read my post.
Mike

Well why not upgrade? It's not like it's just some minor bug fixes and security patches. You actually get a load of new features. I can't say what the older os is like as iPhone 4 is my first iPhone so I only know iOS 4, but still.

  • Got my iPhone $100 credit..

and spent my iPhone $100 credit!
    Apple is very smart!

The messed up thing is that I thought I could use the credit on iTunes over time as I buy music, audiobooks, etc., but noooooo, they won't let you use the credit for either iTunes or for the purchase of an iTunes gift card. Truly an empty promise. I purchased all of the needed iPhone accessories (docks, cases, adaptors) before the credit was announced! Now there is nothing else really relevant to buy from the Apple Store (retail or online) if they aren't going to let you use iTunes. I guess I could return the extra dock I bought and then re-buy it with the credit. Now, where is that receipt and packaging?? The only other things they sell for iPhone that I don't have are the crystal film and another one of those silly little adaptors you have to use for a car cassette device all b/c of the recessed jack on the iPhone. It shouldn't be this way, particularly with Apple.

Depending on your country, you might be able to get an Apple Store gift card for its value. You can always sell it to someone other than Apple.

  • IPhone on Orange Eating Credit via GPRS

    Hello.
Wondered if anyone can offer any advice ...
iPhone 4 on Orange network (Pay as you Go) was meant to have free internet for a year,
however, has just scoffed about a tenner's worth of credit on some GPRS thing or other.
    What gives?

If you turn off Data Roaming (General > Network > Data Roaming) until Orange gets its 'situation' sorted out completely with the T-Mobile merger and everything stabilises then you can be sure that it's not data traffic associated with 'false' usage generated by the network registration and roaming between their merging networks.
I guess that you've checked 'Recent Calls' to make sure that no 'phantom' calls have happened and that you also make sure that you 'End Call' even if the caller hangs up first? (A daily 'reset' last thing at night would catch that one too)
I'd suggest complaining to Orange directly and ask them to justify the charges in writing if you're not convinced by their explanation.
If you're still not satisfied after that then there is Ofcom (the regulator) and always 'Watchdog'!
    Good luck!

  • Connecting iPhone to credit card terminal

I would like to connect the iPhone to a credit card terminal to process payments via the 3G network. The terminal requires an Ethernet connection, how can I connected an Ethernet device to the iPhone?

OK then. For the incurably pedantic: iPhone OS version 3.0
Or, as the page on Apple.com calls it "iPhone OS 3.0"

  • IPhone $100 credit?!! and Apple Repair Service Scam!!!

To Steve Jobs, the Apple Board and Customers:
While I am happy that Apple is concerned about their customers, (and I will debade that in a moment), I cannot believe that you (Steve and Apple) went ahead with this move. Are you going to give me a $10 a share credit for the stock I bought at $140 that is now at $130 because of this pricing move and this credit?!! It's the same thing! Are all the iPhone buyers now boo-hooing because they had to buy the iPhone and didn't feel it was worth $599? You do realize that you now have set a precedent for all future pricing cuts at Apple, as everyone that has purchased a system that gets a price cut will slam Apple with email complaining they paid too much, etc. I want a credit for the money I have lost due to the discounting of my stock for this rediculous iPhone price cut. You guys blew it!!
Second problem regards a service problem. My 12" powerbook to a drop off the couch a year ago. Still working fine. Decided to get the bottom aluminum case plate replaced, as it is causing too much pressure on the DC inboard recepticle for the power cord. Took it in and got a $600 cost. Ok, way over-priced, but better than new systm! Sent it out. Less than a week later, I got a call from App,e, saying that the service team that inspected my system needed to also replace the DC inboard (fine) and the Hard Drive. The Hard Drive worked fine at the store before sending it off. I qouted the back of the service agreement stating that any damage of the system in Apple's care is Apple's problem, so replace it, but not at my cost. The Apple rep said that this did not qualify, as the "crashed" hard drive was due to the drop. I explained there was not drive problem until Apple shipped it, so get the cost from the shipper insurance. Apple rep said the cost was mine to bear and they would not proceed with the repairs unless I agreed to replacing the DC inboard and HD at an additional cost of $375 (3 times market cost from local Appple authorized repair facility). I continued to question the HD crash. She stated that the repair facility said it crashed, no longer operational. I said I can get these parts for a much better price, send the unit back as is.
Well, unit came back and is FINE!!!! HD works perfectly!!! Ran a diagnostic (I am a certified Sun Microsystems and HP System and server administrator!!!) on the drive and no sector damage or HW problems from the read/write testing. DC inboard is still functional. Apple sent this to Flextronics International. I say, CHECK YOUR SERVICE PROVIDERS APPLE, AS THEY ARE COMMITTING FRAUD ON THE APPLE CUTOMER BASE AND YOU FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS!!! I am not making this up, I have the documents proving this and my system is working right now as I type this. I hope to hear from someone at Apple to contact me on this issue, as the store and 800-MyApple jst softly skirted the issue with, "I'm sure there is a problem with the hard drive and it was not working at the repair facility. It is just on its last life and just happens to be working now." Are you kidding me?!!! I wonder if the New York Time would be interested in this problem?!!!
I also noticed the service agreement states that all replaced parts will be replaced with either new, reconditioned or USED parts. GREAT!!! They would take my drive out, put it in someone elses "crashed" drive and take their drive and put it in my computer and get a huge markup for nothing but labor!!!
I am glad I no longer own Apple shares, and anyone who does, beware of this and other devaluing business decisions or over-sight lacking of Steve Jobs, the Apple board and company!!
    Sincerely,
    Eric

  • How can i get to trade in my iphone for credit towards a new phone

My friend ha went to an apple store and traded her phone in and received credit towards a new phone. She had an iPhone 4S and upgraded to and iphone 5 color.
I woul like to do the same and I'm wondering if i need to make a reservation. I'm going t the apple store tomorrow and i dont know the steps of how to do this. I have an iphone 4 and would like to trade my phone in for credit towards a new phone.

Call Gazelle.com tonight first.  You might get more selling it to a person looking for an older model than just getting "recycling credit".

  • IPhone store credit for earlier buyers --still available?

    Hi all,
First post here. I'm one of the earlier iPhone buyers this summer, and paid the whopping 600 bucks (that said, I'm happy with the phone). I remember Jobs issuing a store credit of 100 dollars and had been planning to use it. However, an Apple store employee told me today that it "expired, like, six weeks ago." ...Is this true? I have not heard of an expiration date. Though, I don't see where I can generate a coupon on the website. May anybody help guide me there? Thanks much! A.

    Hello,
I also have a question regarding the $100 Iphone rebate.
I had made my online submission for the rebate in September 2007 and received an "Apple Store credit access code". Now I want to use this code purchase the Leopard software. However, it seems like the code I received on my Iphone is not sufficient. I received a six digit code while the required information is a credit number and a pin. Does anyone know how to get the credit number and the pin by using the six digit access code I have.

  • My iPhone eats headsets!!

I have an odd and fairly significant problem with my iPhone. Had a pair of Vibe Duos I was using with my iPhone.
I have a feeling I damaged my iphone jack when my Vibes were pulled out of the jack by accident - got caught in my arm as I was opening a door. From then on in, my Vibes have not worked properly. The mic works, the button works, but no sound from the right earbud. The headphones don't work properly in a regular iPod either, with the same problem.
I never tested my Apple headset in a regular iPod before this, but after putting it into the possibly damaged iPhone, and then into an iPod, again no right sound in both situations.
Then, using another Apple headset - that I could not confirm was working or not in a regular iPod - the same problem.
Either the iPhone headset does not work in regular devices -can someone confirm that they work properly (stereo) in regular devices - or my iPhone is eating headsets? I should note that regular buds work fine. What's going on here? Could my iPhone be damaging the headsets somehow?

Did you switch off "Data roaming" during your visit abroad? If yes, this could be a hint for the background activity.
If you have mail set to push/fetch, delete the account and set it up again.
There have been reports in the forum, that the mail app got stuck, trying to connect to the server over and over again, causing the battery to drain very fast.

  • Iphone Eating Up Data

I've been having this problem that started back last September with my iphone 4 using too much data.  I don't use my phone that much, and when I complained they suggested I bump up to the 2 gb plan.  So lately my data usage has been out of control.  It's only half way into the billing cylce and I've already used 2gb of data.  So yesterday around noon I got a text that 100% of my data was met and I was going to be billed for another 1gb of data.  Well around 9pm I got another text saying that 75% of THAT was used.  I went to sleep around 10pm and woke  up an hour later to another text saying I was at 100% of the 1gb.  Is it possible to use 1gb of data in one day??  I watched one video on youtube and read the news on one website, checked my email a couple of times with no attachments or anything.  It doesn't make sense that doing just that would eat up 1gb of data.
When I call customer service and AT&T they are completley useless They even told me that while using wi-fi you will still use up a little of your data allowance is this true??.  I've tried everything, turned all my settings to "push", turned off my gps on apps etc..  I've even deleted almost all my apps. I thought about reseting my phone, does anyone have any suggestions?

    anyone?

  • IPhone Wireless Credit Card Machine Swiper

Does anyone know of a mobile credit card machine/swiper that is compatible with and iphone. I am trying to connect a small credit card machine to my iphone so I can except credit cards at this summers Art Festivals.

No, but I would consider using a connection other than cellular to process credit cards, for a number of reasons.
Using a non-encrypted cellular link to process credit cards is just a really dumb idea. I certainly would not be handing you my credit card to do so on a show floor. Think about it: what is transmitted?
    • the full 15 or 16 digit card number
    • the 4 character card expiration date
    • the 3 or 4 character CVV2 code
    • a street address numeric value
    • the ZIP code associated with that address
That's all anyone needs to process legitimate looking but clearly fraudulent transactions. In addition, you cannot use your iPhone, smartphone or mobile handset for voice calls while doing so.
Using an IP link, preferably a hard-wired one, may entail modifying your current processing relationship with your clearing operation and with your bank. If you are clearing presently using an IP interconnection, you are likely doing so while running an application on your computer, not using a standard terminal.
The simplest way to process credit cards is with a plain old telephone line and a simple swipe terminal, such as a TRANZ 330 or similar dial-up device, either a spare you have on hand and already programmed, or an additional one you can obtain from your merchant bank. If you have a dial tone, you can process cards rapidly in this manner. While it can be a shared line, you will need to maintain control over its use to insure that the line is free when you want to process cards.

  • Original iPhone -- $ 100 credit

I bought the original iPhone in July 2007 and received a $ 100 credit when the prices dropped a few months later. I have not yet redeemed the credit. I tried to use it in buying a new 3G S earlier today but didn't see how to use the credit. There is no "redeem by" notice on the credit. Is the $ 100 credit still valid?

You said you hadn't redeemed the credit. If that's correct, then it's too late. If, however, you redeemed the credit but haven't used it, then it should be valid on almost anything in the Apple Store. You'll have to ask about using it on a new iPhone, though.
But again, if you never redeemed the credit, you're out of luck.

  • Original Iphone Store Credit

I have the original iPhone and I just saw something on getting a store credit now, I tried going to the website that I saw but it didn't work. Does anyone know how I can go about getting my store credit??

If you are talking about the $100 credit for early adopters, that offer came and went a long time ago. It was offered in September of last year and you had a few months to apply for it.

  • IPhone Store Credit Disappeared?

    Hi All,
Like a good little Appleite, I went and got my store credit after the iPhone price was dropped. I printed out my handy dandy Credit Number and PIN for use in the future.
Well, the future is now. I tried to use in the online apple store and it said that the balance was zero!
Can I only redeem this thing in person in an apple store? I have not used the discount in any way since I got the coupon, so I am confused as to why it seems to indicate a balance of zero.
    Thanks,
    R
