Iphone email works but generates wrong return address

I'm using iphone 5 ios7
I can receive and generate email from my iphone to my pop server account.  However, any email I send out has the wrong return addess -- it's missing a digit. 
In settings, when I go to that account, it has the wrong address with a check mark.  But all efforts to add another email, the right one, and put a check next to that to make it the default, have failed.  Correct address simply does not remain on that line once I leave that screen.  

What part of settings are you going to where you see the email address with a checkmark? The return address for your email is set at the beginning and when you create the account. Your best bet is to delete the account and recreate it making sure all settings are correct.
I think I found where you were. When you first go into Settings and then select the account, then look under POP account information and select the email. You need to fix the default, which is the one when you create the account. That is where the error is at. You cannot change the default by adding a new address in that area.

  • Multiple Mac Mail Users Getting Wrong Return Addresses

    Hello,
    Having an odd problem with Mac Mail. We just switched to Gmail and it's been working fine for about two weeks until this. I have a computer with 4 users using Mac Mail. It's been that way for about 4 years now. What happens is this...
    When one of the users sends out an email, somewhere along the line the return address is getting changed to another user of that computer. So for example: Joe Brown ([email protected]) is what his email address SHOULD look like in the return address. But for some reason it is this: Joe Brown ([email protected]) Whenever someone replies to Joe's email, it gets sent to Steve's mailbox instead due to the wrong email address.
    Things I've tried.
    1. Rebuilt the mailboxes
    2. Deleted all the accounts and started over
    3. Repaired Permissions
    4. Made sure there's enough space on the computer (In the past, odd problems have crept up because there wasn't enough disk space.
    At first it seems to be fixed but eventually it all starts over again...

    Is it always the same user in the return address ?
    And can we assume that whatever email address is involved it ends up with a return address at gmail.com or googlemail.com (or other GMail variant) ?
    could be the smtp login used for all the mail has been set to an address on gmail. I don't use OSX Mail, but I use this feature in Entourage, I can send mail from any of my email addresses - some by different ISPs who would normally require me to dial in to their network to send mail, Gmail allows me to use their SMTP server to send mail from my other ISP mail account.
    A consequence of this is that any replies come back to my gmail (googlemail.com in my case) account.
    This doesn't happen by default, I needed to set some preferences on gmail, key a few passwords, etc. Can't check your gmail settings, but start by checking the SMTP server, and login, used for each user sending mail.

    Thank you but I have and use a MobileMe account and I am aware of the differences between IMAP, POP, and push services that use Exchange, etc.
    In my 6+ months experience with my iPhone 3G, I have found Apple's own push service with MobileMe to be extremely flakey/inconsistent in visually displaying new email alerts in the Springboard or audibly notifying based on sound preferences. The same for fetch.
    In fact, I sent myself a test message to my .me account as I wrote this message. Two minutes later, I still haven't heard an alert and the count of my new email messages is wrong in the Springboard.
    But when I check my email on iPhone it is there.
    Sometimes iPhone will have the proper count and give you the audible alert, but I find, especially if you haven't been using the phone, it often doesn't keep up and Apple's push services is not better than the fetch service for POP and IMAP.
    What I am suggesting is that BECAUSE the MAIL PUSH service is still a work in progress they haven't rolled out access to push notification for 3rd party developers.
    The best way to know if you have new mail on an iPhone is to open the Mail app and manually check each of your accounts.
    Email account aggregation would be nice too but that's another discussion

  • Replacement iPhone -- mostly works, but issues remain

    I had to get my iPhone replaced via the $199 out-of-warranty thing due to water damage (don't ask). The genius at the Apple Store was very helpful, and my replacement phone was activated before I left the store. When I got home, I plugged it into iTunes, which restored everything successfully. So far so good.
    However, now whenever I plug the phone in to sync it, the first thing iTunes shows me is the "let's set up your new iPhone" screen. When I click Continue, it goes to the normal sync behavior. But it never seems to save the fact that this is a replacement phone.
    The same for MobileMe and the "Find My Phone" settings. It reports that my iPhone is offline (well, it probably is, in a box on its way back to Apple for parts cannibalization or something). But there doesn't appear to be a way to tell MobileMe the phone has been replaced, either!
    The final thing that doesn't work is push email. Actually, if this worked none of the other stuff would bother me all that much.
    All three things are the same problem, I am sure...just not what sure what to do about it. Everything is set up correctly on the phone itself (MobileMe password, mail account details, "push" enabled), but the relevant services don't recognize this new iPhone as my iPhone.
    Note that it does receive and make phone calls successfully, so the AT&T related information has been updated properly. It's just the Apple-related stuff. I tried to find existing postings on this (via Google, not just here) and was unsuccessful, so any suggestions are appreciated.

    OK, this has resolved itself...guess it just took time for things to percolate through Apple's servers. iTunes finally gave me a chance to change the registration information and both push email and Find My iPhone are working now.
    So I should have procrastinated on asking the question!

  • IPhone 4S working but the screen is black

    My iPhone screen is completely black but the phone works perfectly. I can connect it to the MAC, i can use Reflector to see everything, music, camera.. Everything works, but to see the phone's screen i need a torchlight. The fact is, that when i switch it on, i can see the Apple logo for a second and i can see everything when the phone is switched off (example: when charging i can see perfectly the battery icon, or "Connect to iTunes" ecc...). I tried to restore the phone from backup, to reset it, pressing home and the power button, DFU mode... EVERYTHING.
    My question is: will buying a new LCD screen solve my problem? If not, any idea?

    You need to make an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar to have it evaluated by the techs there. We are just users like you and cannot possibly diagnose what's wrong with your phone without looking at it.

  • Tracked stolen iphone with icloud but 911 needs complete address

    Recently my iphone 4 s was stolen and was switched off soon after the incident so i could not track it using my icloud account. Accidently when I was trying to located it via icloud, i suddenly saw it online in a town 50 miles from my place. I called my town police as well as the police of the other town where i could locate it. with great difficulty, i could get a stolen report with my town's police but no help from the other town's police to get my iphone back. They need an exact address to go and check - iclould just shows you an intersection and not the exact address. Anyone had luck getting their iphone back in such a situation? how did it happen?
    I even sent messages to this person to return it back or i am going to call 911 but no luck

    As to police resources. Cell phone theft is so easy and lucrative and there is so little chance that the police will even try to help recover the lost property that it is already the most common crime in the country now and is fueling a huge resale and used parts industry. Once I told the Atlanta Police and Airtran that the phone is locked they can both safely throw their hands up because there is no chance that it will resurface on the iCloud grid.
    Live and learn.
    I now see that other better apps are out there to better protect my property and help me recover it. It is good to know that neither Apple nor the police will be able to help you unless you really know how to help yourself.
    Several European countries have national lost cell phone and computer registries/databases that includes the serial number, IMEI and ICCID/SIM address and MAC address.
    To me, it looks like Apple wants no part of helping owners/licensees of Apple products to recover "our" stolen property. It is actually Apple's software, I only have a user license. It is not as lucrative to sell/or preload an "owner" controlled and useful "application license" with helpful instructions versus selling new phones. It is all a big money go round so just
    iCloud almost appears to be designed to help ensure that you have to buy a new product that you can then download much of what was lost on the new machine or a stolen machine purchased on ebay, craig's list, etc. Not good in my opinion, but such is life, at times.
    At least I can be pretty sure that I do not need to do a remote wipe scrub because to restart they have to wipe out. Thanks for feedback. Very useful!

  • Scan to email: get pin so email working but don't get scan

    set up email account ok and get 4 digit pin via this email.
    When I scan to email it says email sent but nothing received at all.

    I understand that you are not recieving the scans that are sent to your email.
    I would like to help.
    Scan to email does have a file size limit. If it is a large document you may have to send it as two.
    Are you getting any messages from the printer?

  • Email working, but not with BlackBerry

    Hi everyone,
    I have come across quite a strange problem, after some extensive research I can not find any solution so I have come here to ask if anyone can provide any answers to this.
    I have my own email address [own domain] and it is working fine, receiving emails/sending emails and it is working with my desktop etc. apart from my BlackBerry - I enter the BlackBerry Email Setup and enter all the details of the email, and it says
    "Email address domain not found. The email address *** cannot be found. Please veryify this..."
    I have checked the domain and the DNS Zone/MX Records - all seem to be fine (apparently) as the email works with Outlook and I can access webmail fine...
    This all started a week ago, I do not know why!

    Qutie honestly, it may work later. I've seen this odd behavior before.
    Just try the setup again later. If after 48 hours it doesn't let's look again.

    Particularly:
    Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
    Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    After at least 30 minutes, if:
    The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    If the display remains black, go to next step.
    Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.

  • Setting new email account on iphone not working - but same EXACT account settings on iPad working fine.

    I am attempting to setup my website's email on my new iPhone 5s iOS 7.1.2 
    I have Yahoo! setup and working perfectly.  But when I attempt to setup the new email account using the same exact settings that are on my iPad - I get an error that says the username or password is incorrect.  I have rebooted the phone and no luck.  I have attempted to setup the account as both IMAP as well as POP3... and get the same error message.  I know that this is a situation that the password is correct and the error message isnt telling me what is really going on.  Does anyone have any idea?

    Yahoo has hundreds of mail servers that are notorious for being out of sync. In all likelyhood, you are hitting two completely different servers on your iPad and your phone.
    It's a Yahoo problem. The best thing you can do to alleviate the problem is dump Yahoo and move to something else for email. It's been like this for years. I wouldn't expect to see it fixed anytime in the foreseeable future.

  • IPad email working but not iPhone

    I have an email account that has no problem sending or recieving emails on my iPad but I started to have problems with the same account sending emails on my iPhone5c. I could still recieve emails on my iPhone but just couldn't send. I decided to delete the account on my iPhone and reset and now I can't get or send on my iPhone. Still no problems on my iPad with the same email account. I've copied everything on my iPhone (down to the server port #) that's on my iPad and it still isn't able to receive or send.

    The error message was "The mail server smtp.fuse.net is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings."
    Email account provider is Cincinnati Bell Fuse. Yes, the iPhone and iPad are connected to the same WiFi at work and at home and can send and recieve on iPad and but nothing on the iPhone.
    It counldn't verify with the port number that I had on my iPad so I chose another and it did verify but still no email.

  • TS1347 All my contacts were lost after my husband uploaded the newest version to my iphone 3Gs.  I never had done an update before. My email stopped working so I gave it a try.  My email works, but my contacts & pictures are missing.

    How do I get my contacts back after upgrade?

    The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
    The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
    Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.
