Eventually, as Apple and cell phone companies make deals, the iPhone will expand into other countries. If you hack the phone, you'll void the warranty and could end up with an expensive paperweight.

Sorry, no, you won't be able to do that. The SN of your phone will tell the original country of origin, & you would have had to purchase a US iPhone to purchase AppleCare in the US.

Old iphone in Mexico

I wanted to know since the 3g iphone is going to be sold in Mexico can the old iphone also be used in mexico? My cousin wants my old iphone when i buy the new one. can he use it over there in Mexico?

If Mexico is only a 3G network then no the old iPhone would not work for him as a permanent phone as even with the 2.0 update it is not 3G compatible.
When I went to Mexico mine worked but it was roaming not using a 3G service.

Hola, Quisiera saber si compro un iphone 5 en apple store de Chicago, desbloqueado, lo puedo traer a Mexico DF y ponerle chip de Telcel y funcione como telefono normal mexicano, o no me va a servir el aparato y tengo que comprar uno en Mexico solamente?
Quisiera comprarlo en USA por la diferencia de precios a Mexico, ya tengo el chip con contrato pero necesito el aparato.

Lo mas seguro es que ocupe los mismos precios del iphone 4s, que lo puedas conseguir por contrato en telcel, movistar y iusacell, y desbloqueado desde la pagina de apple, yo lo pienso comprar desbloqueado en la pagina de apple mexico, pero me preocupa que telcel tenga stock de las nano sim ya que solo los iphone usaran esas tarjeta. y pues soy del Norte.

With Airplane mode enabled, Find My iPhone cannot work.
You received a message from what that it was found? With Airplane mode enabled, a message cannot be sent. And if you didn't have the Passcode Lock feature enabled, all someone has to do is turn Find My iPhone off with your iCloud account settings on your iPhone or turn Location Services off.

The unlocking procedure includes this reminder: "the 'Official Mexican Standard NOM-184-SCFI-2012' states that cell phones purchased after October 23, 2012—when the rule became effective—must be unlocked for free if you ask." It implies that phones purchased before October 23, 2012 cannot be unlocked.

New iPhone 4 bought for full price but locked!

I have a kinda complicated problem.
I bought an iPhone 4 in Mexico from a reseller called iShop. They sold me the phone with a prepaid sim card from Telcel. They told me that the sim included 1 month free internet so I decided to use it there as I had another week before returning to Argentina. I activated the iPhone with the sim, but at the store they told me the iPhone was fully unlocked and I could just change to the Argentine sim when i returned.
So I get back to Argentina and get my new microsim from Personal. Now I have no service and itunes tells me that the sim is incompatible. When I check under settings -> general -> about - it tells me that the carrier is "Telcel 8.3".
So telcel do NOT offer unlocking. They told me to go back to apple (they gave me a generic response which was targeted to any kind of phone unlock request it seems). I called apple US and explained the problem (I even spoke with a Supervisor) but they told me that there is absolutley nothing I can do, and that the phone is locked to Telcel because I activated it with that sim card first. I thought the whole point, was that I could just change SIMs at will with an unlocked iPhone. I assumed there was some activation process involved but not that it would actually lock the phone. Should I actually do something like wiping the phone and trying again?
Following from this I'm not sure what else I can do? Now I have a super expensive ipod and if i'd known that activating that sim would lock the phone I never would have used it.
I read somewhere on the forums that if the store adds the number of the phone to the receipt that is what locks the phone. Is this correct? Is it the fault of the reseller? I'd like to know in case I can take some recourse with them on the problem.

Only the Apple Store, Movistar and Telcel are authorized vendors, so unless iShop is an authorized agent for one of the two carriers, you purchased an iPhone whose actual source is unknown. Whether or not iShop is authorized, though, iPhones are not sold unlocked in Mexico and neither Movistar nor Telcel provide unlocking services, so what you were told is untrue.
Sorry, but there's nothing Apple or any of us (your fellow users) here can do to help in this matter. You will need to contact iShop and take this issue up with them.

Sturdy iPhone 4 mount for resonable price?

Hi everyone,
Springs coming around the corner and I would love to find myself a nice mount so I can use my phone as a GPS and record myself driving.
I've seen some mounts here and there but I would like to get someone's opinion before I buy anything.
So if you know of any good dash/window mounts for a reasonable price just post a link below.
One of the key things that I need is the ability to record while driving and it needs to hold the phone very well or else the video will look shaky.
Also, it doesn't need to have any special features such as built in mics, charging capabilities, etc.

I've changed countries and have to contact Apple to get my account transferred but can't find any way to directly contact Apple, as can't use my iPhone in Mexico.

The only way to stop her information is to have her turn off iCloud and wipe the device.
then you can set up with your Apple ID and information.
if she doesn't remove the device from her iCloud account you will not be able to update apps and will run into the activation lock at some point.
