IPhone entre New York et Paris

Bonjour,
Merci.

Yes. DONT BUY THE US IPHONE.
It will not work in France. Your ATT SIM card will NOT work in the iPHone in the US either - there is a SIM card specific just for the US iPhone, you can't swap in an old one.
When you return to France, your iPHone will not work with any French SIM card - it will always remain locked to ATT in the US.
As you know, France will be releasing their own iPHone at the end of November. It will be locked to Orange -- there will also be an unlocked iPhone in France. While the cost has not yet been announced, it is expected to be in the couple thousand Euro range. Not worth it.
But you simply will be able to do nothing with an iPHone purchased in the US once you return to France.

If it is locked, yes you will have to unlock it to use with a Moroccan
wireless network. Only the wireless provider to which an iPhone
    is locked can unlock it.
If you can get that far, what does it say when you look at Settings+>
    General=>About=>Carrier?

If you bought it as unlocked directly from Apple you can use it with any carrier in Canada. If you did not buy it unlocked (it will say so on the receipt) there is no legitimate way to unlock it for use outside of the USA, except under roaming agreements with the US carrier.

  • Poor audio quality on calls (New York City)

The audio quality for my calls has always been poor. Recently I heard that that is typical for iPhones in New York City. Is that right?
In my experience the most advanced phone in the world sure does sound like a tin-can telephone.

you might have more luck in the at&t forums
    http://forums.wireless.att.com/
i have read press reports about generally dismal 3g quality in NY on the at&t network... i don't think it is limited to iphones, but all 3g phones. since you posted this in original iphone section i am guessing you are on the original iphone which uses the 2g network... i remember reading at&t was reassigning some frequencies that was causing some with 2g phones to experience some issues, i will post the link if i can find it!
    be well

You can buy an unlocked iPhone at any of the 5 Apple stores in NYC. All are open on Sunday. Note a couple of things, however:
US iPhone 5's will work on 3G in the rest of the world, but not on LTE because the US phones use different channels than other countries
Be sure you say "unlocked", not "no contract"
If it breaks it must be returned to a US store for repair, and if shipped to Apple it must be from and to a US address

  • New York Times app freezes my iPhone

I'll scan the headlines and poke an article to read and, about a minute or two in, the downloading whirly starts whirling and my iPhone 3G is dead as a brick, often for as much as 3 to 5 minutes. I can do nothing (except click the power button to blank out the screen, but then I can't get it to wake up again). Once it's done whirling, the app closes without warning and I'm back at my main menu screen.
This happens regardless of whether I am linked to my home wireless router or if I'm on the network (Edge in my neighborhood). It's been happening through at least one update of NYT AND iPhone firmware.
I'm not alone in this. My wife has my old iPhone and it happens to her. Also, here's a rather poignant qvetch about it online:
    http://gizmodo.com/5081985/hey-new-york-times-fix-your-stupid-iphone-app

I used the NY Times app when released, and I experienced the same too often. NY Times released an update, which helped somewhat but not enough for me, so I deleted it. NY Times has not released an update for their app in a very long time.
Such a problem is the responsibility of the NY Times They created the app, or a 3rd party did this for them, and they need an update to address their very slow update download issues at minimum - I don't use any other news apps that take so long to download updates as the NY Times app does, or did for me. I uninstalled what I consider a garbage app compared to other similar apps.

Apple does not have an international warranty.  If the phone was purchased in the US, it must be serviced in the US, in warranty or out of warranty.  Also, Apple will not accept international shipments...the phone must be physically returned to an Apple store in the US or mailed from within the US.

    Also...
It is Prudent to purchase the Phone in the Country it is intended for use in... It will then work as expected.
    AND...
iPhone Warranty  >  The warranty is only valid in the country of original purchase... Except for EU Countries...

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

Probably not because the iPhone warranty is NOT international, but is country specific, so if you purchased it in the US, then it will have to go back to the US for repair.
You can try and take it into a store in Hong Kong and see if they will help you, but if it is a US phone, then they have every right to refuse due to warranty cover and they also have different models if your phone needs replacing and they won't be able to give you the same model if the phone came to from the US and this is why warranty cover for the iPhone is country specific and NOT international.
You can try, but you might be out of luck and if so, then there is nothing you can do except send the phone to any relatives that you have living in the US and see if they will take it to an Apple store in the US to get it repaired for you.  Otherwise you'll have to get it repaired on your next trip to the US.
This is exactly why you should have thought very long and hard before purchasing a US iPhone and having exactly this situation where you can get nothing done about repairing the phone due to country specific warranty.
The only other thing that you can do of course, is to buy a new iPhone from Hong Kong and then you will have no problem with warranty cover.

I bought an iPhone 4s last November from your New York store (IMEI number  ).
It has now malfunctioned (the wi-fi button is grated out and so the wi fi
cannot be switched on).  I have been told by the Polish Apple store that they
would be unable to repair it or replace it as it was bought in the USA.  it is
still within the warranty period.  could you advise me as to the newt steps
please?  Can I send it to you by courier and if so please provide me with the

I look forward to hearing from you.

Ah, the dangers of trying to save a few bucks. Warranty is only good in the USA for phones purchased in the USA.
    Three options.
    1. Fly to the US, go to an Apple store, and have the phone swapped.
    2. Send the phone to a friend in the US and have them go to the Apple store and have the phone replaced.
    3. Buy a new phone in your home country where the warranty is valid.

  • I live in California but will be in New York next week during the launch of the iPhone 5. Will I still be able to "upgrade" out of state?

I live in California but will be in New York next week during the launch of the iPhone 5. Will I still be able to "upgrade" even though I'm from another state? I ask because my dad had problems doing this for the iPhone 3GS launch. He waited in line all day, finally got in the store and they told him it it not possible to upgrade if you reside in another state. I'm really hoping things have changed.

Based on your Dad's experience, I wouldn't rely on what you hear here. I'd call your carrier & the store you plan on going to.

Read this article and the reference it makes unlocking http://bit.ly/TZsEel
    It says
In other words, phones you already have, as well as those purchased between now and next January, can be unlocked. But phones purchased after January 2013 can only be unlocked with the carrier's permission.

I plan to buy an iphone 6 from New York. I am from India and shall be using the phone in India. Is it possible to get an unlocked iphone from the store? If yes, how much would it cost?

It is going to be months before any unlocked iPhone 6s will be available.
Also be aware that the iPhone purchased in the USA will only have warranty service in the USA. Any warranty service will require you to bring it back to USA.

Mate, I'm trying to find out if it was shipped like that or not. If someone else has had the same issue then I can go back to Apple and have them look into it further. If not then as I said Vodafone is selling second hand phones and they will have to replace the phone.
Vodafone account manager is saying that he has never heard of anything like it.
So I'm left with one of 3 answers.
1: The phone was shipped like that so its a factory error.
2: The Apple genius doesn’t know what he's talking about then I can go back to the store and ask for a second opinion.
3: Vodafone is selling second hand phones as new.
I need to narrow it down so I can deal with the account manager appropriately
