IPhone Field Test Mode & PCS Readings

Greetings,
We are a subcontractor for AT&T Wireless, installing cellualar/PCS repeaters and DAS in Wisconsin. I've found the iPhone field test mode very useful in performing the site surveys.
I've got two questions, mostly related:
1) How does the FIELD TEST -> CELL INFORMATION section determine which channels to display?
2) Is there a way to force it to display the strongest PCS signal?
Many times, inside structures and in rural areas, the cellular (850MHz) signals will be much stronger than any PCS channels. It appears the iPhone displays the strongest 7 signals, regardless of frequency.
We really need a way to force the iPhone to display the strongest PCS (1950MHz) signal, instead of bumping it for 7 stronger cellular (850MHz) signals.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
--Joe

It can't be done.

  • Field test mode signal display

    Hi all,
Back in March I posted that I was having garbled and dropped calls. I still have them but my cell extender has helped some. I'm still waiting on the femtocell for a final fix in this area...
Anyway a person here suggested that I make the field test call, tap on the bars to change it to the dBm display then quit using a soft reset to leave it in that mode.
Did that and monitored signal in lots of places. I'd like to go back to the bars because in general, even though I understand dBm a picture is easier to quickly digest.
So I did field test mode, tapped to get bars then quit again using soft reset. It seems though to go back to bars then at some point it switches back over to dBm again... A soft reset will take it back to bars but then at some point dBm will appear again...
How do I get back to bar display permanently?

I am sorry but, we do no have the steps to enable the Field Test Mode on your Iphone, which relates to the technical details and signal strength on the mobile phone and network.
To ensure you have the best signal on your phone and in your area, you may benefit from a free update of your wireless phone's roaming software once a month. As Verizon Wireless continues to expand our network, it is important to update your software to receive optimal coverage when traveling.
To update your phone, please follow the simple instructions below while on the Verizon Wireless network and receiving a digital signal:
    1. Power on your Verizon Wireless phone.
    2. Dial *228 followed by the "Send" key.
    3. When prompted, press option "2" to update your roaming capabilities.
Within two minutes, a voice recording will advise you that programming is complete. Remain on the line, as the call will disconnect automatically. I recommend you perform this update monthly or before leaving for a trip, as this will give you the ability to pick up newly acquired service areas while roaming.
If you experience any difficulty with the free software upgrade, please call us at 800-922-0204 from a landline phone, and have your wireless phone charged and available when calling.

  • Turn Off Field Test Mode

My iPhone 4 "inherited" the Field Test Mode from my 3GS (that had been upgraded to iOS4) when I brought across my apps from the 3GS. Field Test Mode with iOS4 seems to operate on an app by app basis, rather than being able to set the signal strength bars or the dB reading and staying in the selected mode for all apps until changed.
So, after numerous searches, I can't find a clear, definitive way to turn off or delete Field Test Mode. I've tried to reset network settings and the usual reboot, etc.
I've passed on a total reset because the Field Test capability was passed from by 3GS backup to the iPhone 4.
    Anyone have a clue?

EBSkater, do you think this is the way AnandTech got their i4 to display the db signal? They didn't detail their "trick".

When you're in field test mode, you hold the power key until the "Slide to Power Off" shows up. Now hold the home button until it resprings. You will now ALWAYS have the dB meter, even through updates. The only way to remove it is to restore as a new phone.
If you get an upgraded phone model and restore it with a backup from one of these phones that have the dB meter, you will transfer the dB meter to it.

  • LTE band under Field test mode for ATT in Pullman, WA

Anyone knows what LTE band is being used in Pullman, WA or Moscow, ID?
I believe you can get into Field Test Mode by entering *3001#12345#* in your keypad. For Downlink Frequency, it's under UMTS Cell Environment -> UMTS RR info.
Not really sure how to convert 4385.
    Thanks

That's more of a question for the carrier(s).

  • Field Test Mode

Anyone notice that after upgrading to 4.0 on their 3G that the signal bars are not switching back between bars and Field test mode with the db being indicated or is it just me??
    Thanks

sorry, could you try and explain in more detail what you mean?

  • Field Test Mode disabled cell network

So I was playing around with Field Test Mode today trying different bands and settings with LTE trying to get 4G to work on my Lumia 820 (I'm stuck on Edge - I have i Wireless which uses T-Mobile network I believe). Nothing was working so I tried to set it all back to the way it was before but now I have no cell coverage. Just a circle/slash over the bars. When I reboot I get a message that says the network I selected isn't available and asks me to choose another. When I choose Search Networks, I get a list that includes AT&T, Verizon, "311580", and search again.
Who can help me undo what I did to get i Wireless to show up again?

  • Field Test Mode Number? on OS4 *3001#12345#*

Hey gang, anyone know if there is a way to show the field test settings in OS4? I have problems with my reception everywhere, and this is very useful in determining my real signal strength. On 3.1.3 I was able to have it show as a number in the top left corner at all times. With a fresh wipe and install of V4, the field test number no longer works? Anyone have a new number or idea on this one?

    {quote:title=emi975 wrote:}Also wanted to say that if you do a upgrade from 3.1.3 and not a complete new install, the indicator will stay on the top left corner.{quote}
Is this a bug or a feature?
Found this behavior on a 3G, upgraded to iOS 4, and found the behavior migrated with the backup/restore to an iPhone 4.
Apple, is there a way to surgically remove this from the backup in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backups ? It would be nice to not have to reinstall everything else...

  • IPhone Signal Strengths - Measured Using Field Test Mode

What level of Rx field strengths are users seeing with their iPhone?
Typically I see -85 to -90 on my iPhone, however it randomly drops down to -110 to -114 for short periods of time. This happens even when I am in a stationary location. I get quite a few dropped calls, and I assume this happens when the signal drops to these low levels.Bob

got a new Phone out of apple and now i am able to get a signal at home -90 to-105 ish always got an edge conection though. Interestingly i was told by a Senior dide at apple that there have been a batch of dogey phones reliesed!! big of him! I hope its not weather related as its been clear and sunny here today as agianst throwing it down non stop for the last 2 weeks.

  • IPhone 4 Test Mode is back on 4.1

It works but only shows the dbm value instead of the bars. No carrier information.

On mine, if you tap the dbm value, it turns into bars for a bit.

  • AT&T Field Test Number - Improve Reception?

I don't know if this will of any help to those with recption problems or not.
    http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/inside-the-iphone-field-test-mode.htm
You call "Star3001#12345#Star" and it will put your iPhone into field test mode. Pleae take a look at the link before trying this. If you do a google search on AT&T Field Test you can find more information. This is supposed to give you tower information. Please post if you try this and find anything userful.

I was looking for this. I used it when I had a problem with my 1st Gen iPhone. The cell phone part died. I don't know if this will tell you anything with 3g or not. I know it used to work with Edge. I will take a look at it later an post back.

  • I'm stuck in signal strength testing mode -- is this bad?

Hey, a couple of days ago I punched in the number for testing the signal strength (3001#12345#) and now I can't seem to get out of testing mode. That is, I always have the dB number in the upper LH corner rather than bars.
I've tried passing my finger down over the dB number, which used to get me back to bars but this is no longer working. The dB numbers abide when I power down or even do the full hold-down-power-and-home-buttons-until-the-apple-disappears trick.
I'm actually OK with this (bars seem to be pretty much meaningless anyway) unless it's draining the battery or causing some other unanticipated consequence.
So... is it OK to leave the phone in dB test mode? If not, how can one get out of test mode when the obvious ways don't work?

It really isn't clear whether retaining the bars/dBM meter after pressing the home button for 5 seconds while in field test mode means that the phone is still in field test mode or just has a new meter option. When in actual field test mode, the phone can't do anything besides getting the test readings. However, there are no docs I can find that discuss it. There still could be adverse effects on battery drain or other iPhone functions.
Oh, Its actually Settings >> General >> Reset >> Reset All Settings

  • Can the iOS Field Test app data be written to file with GPS coordinates of readings?

I can run the Field Test app on my iPhone5 but I cannot automatically store the data revealed by the app.  Would it be possible to do this? and link the GPS coordinates to the data?  or is the network data not accessible from an app?

Ask the App developer.  There is no such app native on the device.

Well.. those don't look like errors to me... depending on what copy profile you use SAP chooses what tables to copy and what tables to delete... so basically is just letting you know which tables are not to be copied across...

  • WDA - Application in Test Mode is displayed in Disabled mode

    Hi,
I have developed a component in SE80 and created an Application. Now if I run the same component in Test mode, It is displaying the page and elements(Ex: Input Fields & Buttons) in Non-Editable mode.  Is there any setting for the same. Please help me in this case.
    Thanks.

In version 10.7.4 the screen background of the fullscreen is the same login background. I like. I used the Loginox 1.0.6b5.
