IPhone freezes after slide to unlock

After update to 5.0.1 my iphone is now unable to be locked as when i slide to unlock it freezes (iphone 3gs)

As lots of users I am having the problem that my iPhone takes many seconds to unlock once I "slide to unlock" it could sometimes take 5 to 10 seconds before my telephone reacts.
This is really anoying, because I can't even pick up a phonecall when this happens, I have to wait untill my phone stops ringing, and then I suddenly can unlock the phone and I have to call that person back (this cant be the meaning of a phone)
I recently noticed that this must have to do with wifi. I disabled wifi for almost 2 weeks, and I never noticed the problem again. The moment I put wifi back on, the same problem starts again. the screen stays black when I want to get it out of sleep, and after a while it gets back to life.
The part that makes me angry is that I have this problem for a long time. and always everyone said to me it was because of the 'coma mode' so I supposed it to be a software problem and the update would fix it. Now last month my warranty and support expired, and I have updated my phone to the new 3.1.2 (which I tought would solve the problem) but now it seems not to be a software problem, and my phone is just not capable to run wifi and reacty normal at the same time! If I had known this earlyer I would have give it back to Apple, to get a new one, one that works while I still had warranty (last month). But since that coma mode problem I let my warranty expire and thought the new update would fix my problems.
So this leaves me with a phone advertised to have wifi, but actually is not able to use wifi. (at least not if you want to make sure you can answer your calls whenever they come in)
I know I won't get any feedback from Apple (I have to pay to get feedback of course) but I just wanted to say this.
Maybe this could help people with the same problem.

Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation. The tabs on bottom of all apps also work fine.
I have already tried holding down the power button and home button for 10 seconds, but no difference.

I've had this problem on and off for the last few weeks (around, but not directly related, to upgrade to 6.1...can't remember if was before or after)....I'm very convinced it's a software problem (as there have been times when the bottom row works perfectly, without any need to "press" differently or anything).
However, it seems to be a rather resilient software issue, as a full restore does not consistently fix it, and it applies to more than just the keyboard; if I open a drawing app, there's definitely a row (about 4mm up from the edge of the screen closest to home button) where I cannot draw.
It's happened 4 times now.  Originally it went away with a restore from backup, then worked for 2 more days.  The second and third times, it went away with a full restore (although I did two full restores in between those two restores that did nothing, so restore didn't consistently fix it)....and it seemed to return in the most random of circumstances.
I paid very close attention to what apps I was using the last time it was working so that I could spot which app, if any, might be causing the issue.  I deleted several apps, I stopped using the games and many other apps.   I only used three apps between it working fine and starting up as a problem again: mail, safari and messages.
I was convinced it was mail, as it happened this morning when I picked up my phone off the bedside table to respond to a new email.  It was working when I went to bed.  I picked up the phone when it buzzed, hit the email app, hit reply and started to type....**** bottom row wasn't working again.
However, tonight I did 2 things....one of them worked because it went back to normal (sorry, I don't know which as I was exasperated and trying a number of things).
The two things I did between a broken keyboard and a working keyboard were:
    1) adding a second keyboard (English(Canada)), changing to this keyboard, and changing back
    2) disabling Siri...and then turning it back on...and then disabling Siri's "Raise to Speak"
In retrospect, I wonder if it actually was the "Raise to Speak" that was putting the phone into a weird state, and might explain why the phone would just "suddenly" start behaving strangely when I picked it up.  Of note, the "raise to speak" hasn't actually triggered Siri to come on in months anyway.
Regardless, the keyboard is back to normal now...and I'm just going to leave "Raise to Speak" off.  I've put the keyboard back to just "English" with no alternates and Siri remains on otherwise without issue.

  • Hi,my iphone    it wont slide to unlock

my iphone it doesnt slide to unlock

    @kbroadbent82
Even i had a same issue on my iphone 3gs. Its a boot memory issue and can be resolved in two ways
    1. You need to remove the battery and keep it for 20mins(Which is lil complicated if u donot know how to remove) then place it back so that it refreshes the memory and starts fresh boot.
    OR
    2. Dry out the battery completely ensure it dies without battery , keep it saftely without charging for a week(7days mandatory) and after a week start charging . This procedure ensure that once the battery is completely dried it will refresh the boot memory and starts with fresh boot . This process is same as the above
As i donot recommend removing the battery as the procedure is complicated and factory fit is not obtained, you may also end up with loose screws hence i would recommend going with 2nd step , let me know if you have any questions.

why iphone 4s cannot slide to unlock?

Told by Apple store that it is an LCD problem and has to be repaired.  Without warranty, it will cost approx. $150.  I think they will give you a new one if your is under warranty... not sure.

  • Flickers "after" slide to unlock

My phone used to flicker a bit right "after" I slide to unlock the screen and it did not always happen, but it only happened occationally. I don't know how many of you have noticed this issue. A few days ago while reading another forum, I saw a post that someone have found that this only happens when you don't have the same picture set for your home screen and the lock screen. So I set them as the same picture immediately and haven't had a flicker since then. Anyways, just thought I would share the information here so that more people can give it a try and see if it really fix the problem.

If your iPhone "flickers" there is a problem in your phone that needs troubleshooting. See page 242 of the User Guide.

  • After 'Slide to Unlock', my touch 4g stalls since IOS 5

Since updating to IOS 5. When I 'slide to unlock'  while holding the touch horizontal, the touch stalls for a few seconds before coming alive. It sometimes does the same when held vertical.
For example :  Listening to music, the display shuts down after a minute - I then access the touch by pressing the front button and sliding  the screen slider.  In IOS 4 the touch turns on straight away. In IOS 5 there is a two second delay.
Anyone else suffering from this ?

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart..  Reset..  Restore from Backup..  Restore as New...
    Restarting your device
    1)   Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    2)   Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Follow these steps to reset your device
Note: Reset your device only if it is no longer responding and the steps above do not work.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • IPhone will not slide to unlock.

All of the buttons and the slide to turn off works, but I cannot slide to unlock. I have restored, restarted, and upgraded all software. Any ideas? It is frustrating when the phone rings and I cannot answer it.

  • IPhone 3gs frozen - slide to unlock frozen - phone dropped - pad lock without circle

Dropped iPhone 3gs (ios 3.4.4 or previous version - can't remember which one).  Slide to unlock is frozen.  If I press home button twice then reverse, play and fast forward symbols show up on center of screen (but nothing happens when I press on them).  There is a plain pad lock symbol (no circle) on the top center of the screen.  Won't do anyting else.  Any ideas?  Also, the phone will ring...I just can't unlock the phone to answer.  Then the screen shows that I missed a call with the phone number displayed.

ok no problem looking like you would have to restore the device.
as long as you have a back up you would be fine.

  • My IPad 4 goes dark right after "slide to unlock" appears...

    New user here...
When I turn on my IPad4, the Apple logo appears, then the "slide to unlock" bar...At this point, the "slide bar" is not operational.  If I try to slide it, nothing happens. After about 2 seconds, the screen goes black, as if it is going into sleep mode.  Then I push the home button, the screen comes back, and the slide bar operates normally, and everything operates normally thereafter.
    Two questions...
    1) Has anyone else seen this?
    2) It's annoying, is there any way to get it the slide bar to work right away?

    Ok, so here's the update...
I did the soft reset, and that didn't do anything.  It still behaved the same way.  I called Apple Support (this IPad is brand new), and they said to bring it back for an exchange.
So I exchanged it for the same unit, yesterday.
The first couple times I booted up the new unit yesterday, it was fine, slide to unlock worked.
Now today, this one is doing the exact same behavior. Slide to unlock isn't operational, and the screen does dark until I hit the home button to get the screen back. Then everything works fine.
I'm starting to think this is "normal", but I can't get anyone to confirm or deny that. No one else has this behavior?

  • Iphone locked after one year unlocked?

My iphone 4 locked by then self after one year work perfect. I did try to upgrade to 5.0.
    what to do now.

This usually means your iPhone was hacked to be unlocked - it was not purchased as officially unlocked when new or was not officially unlocked by the carrier if purchased as carrier locked when new.
Installing an iOS update on an iPhone that was hacked to be unlocked re-locks the iPhone to the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked when new. This doesn't happen with an iPhone that was officially unlocked.

  • My iphone 5 wont slide to unlock, but hard resetting (Holding power button and Home button) doesn't fix it.

I restore the iphone 2 days ago, and the itune try to download the 1.02 iphone firmware for restore, but it kept download ... showing like 110mb/97mb. ( suppose it will stop at 97mb, 100%).
So i turn to use another computer which had the firmware downloaded before, and after the restore of iphone, the iphone screen was freeze, i only can see the Earth, Slide for emergency....but i cannot slide the bar, and i cannot do anythings.

Try resetting the iphone. Press and hold the "off" button on top and the menu button on the front at the same time. Then turn the phone back on again using only the top button as usual. That may unfreeze it.

  • Iphone freezing after updating to 5.1.1

I have some troubles with my Iphone 4. Factory Unlocked. I just updated my phone to 5.1.1 and it started to freez. I can`t use it. • Iphone freezing after i wake from lock screen

Waking from the lock screen works fine, but if it stays locked for more than 25 seconds and i go to wake it, it freezes and i have to reboot it every time.
I've restored it three times already and I still get the same issue. Overall the phone is great, this is the only thing wrong with it. Please help, apple is being petty and stupid and not replacing my phone, but instead charging me $200 to repair it. I've tried everything.

Have you tried a reset, which is done by pressing and holding the Home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so?
If so with no change, did you also try restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup? If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup will restore the problem.
If your iPhone remains under warranty and this was not caused by accidental damage or due to something else not covered under the warranty, your iPhone should be exchanged under warranty if the problem cannot be resolved by any other means.
If your iPhone is no longer under the standard one year warranty and you didn't purchase the AppleCare extended warranty which extends the standard one year warranty by an additional year, your iPhone is no longer under warranty. This isn't being petty and stupid - this is no different from anything else you purchase that includes a limited manufacturer's warranty when the warranty period expires - with a computer, any electronics, televisions, automobiles - you name it.

  • After "slide to unlock" keeps ringing

    Hello,
I've got an iPhone 5c and sometimes when I receive a message and unlock my phone, it keeps ringing to say I have a message whilst I'm reading the message.
The only way to turn the ringing off is to press the top button... Otherwise it keeps ringing until it's finished.
I've looked everywhere for a solution, does anyone else have one?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Jesper girl,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone continuing to ring after you unlock it.
I recommend following these steps for an issue like this (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing and any other steps you may have taken):
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:

If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPhone before performing the restore:
