Iphone froze up and won't turn on

my phone froze up. i've tried the reccommended key commands to get it to reboot, and it won't. i can't restore it because my computer is down. this has happened to me before, and i've pushed random buttons and it has come back on again. do you recommend taking out the battery and putting it back in? any info is helpful, as this is my phone and computer right now.

I would defenitely wait until iPhone 5 comes out. iPhone 3 doesn't support iOS 4

sometimes if the battery drains completely you will need to leave it plugged into a charger for 10-15 minutes before you get any activity at all.  this is normal

  • IPhone went dead and won't turn back on

My iPhone 5 was a refurbished phone that I received under warranty in November. However, it worked fine until last week when it started turning off at 50% and below (which is the same reason why I had to get this refurbished phone in the first place). But because it immediately turned back on, I thought nothing of it and ignored it. However, my phone went dead two days ago and won't turn back on. I've used two chargers that worked the day of, but it wouldn't charge with either of those and those wouldn't even connect my phone to my laptop. So, thinking and hoping it was both of the cords malfunctioning, I went out and bought another cord. My phone still won't turn on, Apple Support refuses to help in any way because my warranty out, and I'm lost.

Plug it in to a wall outlet so it has power, then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.

  • My iphone got wet and won't turn on

Yesterday, my iphone 4 fell into water .... it was completely submerged for about 10 seconds before I could remove it. It worked for about 5 minutes after it happened, but then it shut off and won't turn on. Now it's sitting in a pot of dry rice (people told me to put it in rice because it dries stuff out). Is there anything I can do? will it work again?? Am I doomed??

Your phone is fried. You can get an out of warranty replacement at an Apple Store.

  • My iphone is broken and won't turn on. How can i transfer my contacts and music to my new phone?

My iphone 4s's lock button broke. My phone won't turn on. I ordered an iphone 5s. How can i tun on my iphone 4s and transfer my contacts, music, and other things to my new iphone? Please help

The following gives instructions on how to transfer to a new device via either iCloud (top section) or iTunes (bottom section). Assuming that you already have a backup via one of those methods you can skip the first few steps and go directly to the restore instructions. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109

  • IPhone screen blank and won't turn on/off

I went to the camera app from the lock screen and the app seemed to freeze, so I pressed the home button. The screen went blank and now won't turn on. Oddly, when I plugged it into iTunes on the computer, I was able to sync, and I can get Siri by holding the home button. Also the phone will ring if called, but I cannot answer it. Please help.
iPhone 5S. Just installed latest iOS update yesterday. Never had any problems before.

  • IPhone Shut off and won't turn back on

My iPhone 3GS just shut down and won't do anything. I've tried pressing the top button, toggling the top and bottom button, plugging in to charge it, and syncing it, but it just stays black and non-responsive. Any suggestions?

Home + Sleep does not restore. It simply resets you need to put your iPhone in recovery mode (hopefully you backup your phone frequently):
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Connect iPhone to Computer.
    3. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously.
    4. As soon as the screen goes black release the Sleep/Wake button BUT continue holding the home button until you see a pop up a message in iTunes telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
    5. Sync and restore.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if it does not so I can provide more help.

  • My Macbook froze up and won't turn on.

Hey, my macbook froze up completely on me. It wouldn't turn off, so I took out the battery. Now every time I try to restart it, I hear the chime sound but once it gets to the apple in the center of the screen, it freezes there with the spinning circle underneath. What can I do to fix this?

Hi. Don't worry it's nothing serious. Insert the Instal Disc (Snow Leopard) and press the C button while turning on the computer. Once you see the desktop, go to Utility and choose Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh Partition on the left window pane and then click on Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on the bottom right corner. Wait for both processes to finish. Click on the Apple icon (top left corner) and choose quit. Your computer should restart. See if it reboots normally. If not you can always reinstall the OS following the same steps. Good luck!

  • After opening Mail, my iPhone 6 crashed and won't turn on, help!

Today on my iPhone 6 (regular, not a 6 Plus), I had 39 unread emails (according to the badge). I wanted to check them but once I opened the app, it just turned off, and now I can't turn it back on. I tried holding the sleep button for a couple of seconds, and then tried holding both the Home and Sleep button but both didn't work. Right now, I'm also trying to charge it. I reaallly need it to turn back on.

    Hello JCT0816,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPhone is not turning on as you would expect. You have already tried some great troubleshooting by trying to reset the iPhone as well. To continue troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the suggested troubleshooting outlined in the following attached article.

  • My iphone shut off and won't turn back on

I have an iPhone 4, the battery is charged and I was just using it about 30 mins ago. Now, it is turned off. I tried to plug it in and there is nothing. It has been very slow lately, so it doesn't surprise me if it is broken. Any suggestions? I was trying to hold out on getting the 5.

    Hey Kristang!
Here is an article that will help provide you with some troubleshooting steps for this issue:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone shut down and won't turn back on

    Hello everyone,
I've been enjoying my iPhone for quite some time and recently used the iPod function and docked the iPhone to my iPod Hi-Fi sound system...suddenly the screen goes all white and the phone shuts down. I tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't budge, i've attached it to the charger for about 4 hours now and still nothing. I've tried the home and power button reset but that didn't do anything...If anyone knows what's going on here, please let me know. Thanks for lookin!

If you have charged it directly to the USB on your computer, and not on a hub the only thing that I can surmise is that it is down beyond repair.
You cannot reset since there is no lock.
I suggest you take it to the nearest Apple Store or AT&T Store, wherever you bought the phone and see where that leads. Of course you can also call AppleCare.

  • My iPhone 4 died and won't turn back on. It's been on the charger for 17 hours.

Last night my phone went completely dead while I was doing something for school. I put it on the charger as soon as I got into the car, maybe 30 minutes after it went dead. It's been charging for 17 hours and still shows an empty battery with a flash underneath.
I've tried everything. I've attempted a hard reset multiple times, the screen goes black for maybe two seconds and then the empty battery comes back. Tried restarting my computer while my phone was plugged into it. Tried pressing the home button while plugging it into my computer. My computer isn't recognizing it when I plug the phone in.
I am desperate. I don't have the money to buy a new phone. Please help.
It hasn't been dropped. No water damage. I've never broken an iPhone before.

Your only chance is connecting in recovery mode, as explained in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
iTunes has to tell you that it found an iPhone in recovery mode, otherwise you can't be sure that you put it into recovery mode.

  • IPhone 4 bricked and won't turn on after 4.1 update!

    Hey guys
    Hoping someone has any tips.
Last night I update from 4.02 to 4.1. The update installed just fine. As soon as I unplugged my phone from the computer, the screen went black, as if it was turned off.
Nothing I have done turns it back on. Neither the power or the Home buttons do anything. I've tried doing a hard reset and nothing. I even held the buttons for over a minute.
So I tried connecting it to the wall charger as well as back on the computer. It still doesn't turn on at all.
Do I just need to get it replaced?

Ok, so I went to try that and run the program it said I needed .Net Framework 4.0 installed, so I was on my way to update that so I could try to run the program.
Anyway, before I did that, a coworker comes by and I show her that my phone is dead. I unplug it from my computer (it's not charging or anything) and I start pressing the power button rapidly to show her it's dead. All of a sudden the screen turns on and shows me that the battery is drained and needs to be recharged. I quickly connect my phone back to the computer and it begins charging. After a few minutes the Apple logo appear and it is detected on my computer! It is currently charging and is seen in iTunes. All is well again.
What's weird is that I know for a FACT that the battery was not dead when the update was done. In fact the phone showed FULL battery right before I unplugged it the first time.
I don't know if it was a combination of the steps above or what, but whatever it was, I appreciate everyone's input.

  • My iPhone 4 died and won't turn back on?

Today I was out and had my phone in my bag. It was already 23% when I left the house, and I didn't really look at it while I was out. About two hours later, I think I got a call cause my phone was vibrating, but when I checked, the screen was black and wouldnt show anything??? I figured the battery was dying or something so I just left it alone. Then when I got home, I went to charge it but nothing is happening. It's been charging for like an hour now and nothing has showed up. What can I do? I tried the home+power button but my home button is kinda messed up (I used assistive touch), so I'm not sure if it's even effective. Help please!

    Time for a new phone.
    Christmas is early for you.

I can't restart the iphone to reset or restore. I held the homebutton down and the homebutton + sleepbutton down at the same time. The apple doesn't even appear.
I've also tried connecting it to the charger. It's not charging and dosn't recongize it.
I tried connecting the phone to itunes on the computer to see if it registered and charged it but that didn't work either.
