IPhone Home screen icons

When I create a home screen icon most of them place a custom icon on the home screen, usually with the websites logo. But a few of them just place an icon with a shot of the whole page.
Is there a way to request or create a custom home icon from a site?
In particular I'm looking for one for the Royal bank of Canada website at either:
www.royalbank.com
or
www.rbc.com

The website your are visiting must have a webclip icon stored on their server... You can try contacting them to see if they will add one... Here is what they need to do:
To specify a bookmark icon for all pages of a web site, place a PNG image named "apple-touch-icon.png" at the root directory of your web server - similar to the "favicon.ico" for site icons.
To override the site bookmark icon on a specific web page, insert a <link> element similar to <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/customIcon.png"/> within the <head> element of the page.
The bookmark icon dimensions should be 57x57 pixels. If the icon is a different size it will be scaled and cropped to fit.

  • How to create a iPod/Iphone Home Screen icon

My icon file is a 512*512 pixels PNG file. It works fine on my devices
    during development.
And when I try to load to iTune, it seems like iTune can not display this
since it requires a 57*57 PNG file.
Could anyone show me how to convert this 512*512 PNG file to 57*57 PNG file?
I am a new Mac user and it will be appreciated if you can show me how to do it?
    Thanks.

Are you talking about when you upload your app to iTunes Connect?
Your app needs to contain a 57x57 pixel icon in PNG format. It should be referenced in the Info.plist file - there's a property called "Icon file" in it. Drop the icon into your project in Xcode, and enter the name of the file, e.g. myappicon.png into the "Icon file" entry in Info.plist.
When you build your app for distribution, it will be included and iTunes Connect will check your zipped package for the correct icon.
If, however, you want to know how to make it a 57x57 pixel icon, simply use Photoshop or GraphicConverter or any of the other myriad paint apps to resize it.
Don't add the shine and rounded corners effect that you see on icons on the device, the iPhone/iPod touch will do that for you.

  • Custom Icon for iPhone Home Screen

Does anyone know if there's a way to upload an icon to the site so that people can add it to their iPhone home screens? Thanks!

    Hi!
If you use Business Catalyst you can use the file upload to put the file apple-touch-icon.png to the root. iPhone will then recognize this file when you create a shortcut.
You can also access your Muse files via FTP (I'm on a Mac and use Cyberduck), and upload the file to the root there.
Tip: Create your icon in 300x300 pixels with 327 dpi. This will make the icon look really sharp and great on Retina displays.

  • Iphone 4s screen icons jumping around like you are touching the home button. Acts as if someone is opening apps. Any suggestions?

Iphone 4s screen icons jumping around like you are touching the home button. Acts as if someone is opening apps. Any suggestions?

You didn't, but you are about the 4th person today who has done this. It just wastes my time, and yours, and gets frustrating after awhile.
I do believe you have a screen/logicboard issue and while you can try Restoring it from backup in iTunes, and then as a new iPhone if that doesn't work, I don't believe it will help.

  • Custom Home Screen Icons

I was wondering how difficult it was to create Home Screen icons for sites (like Apple and Yahoo! have).
I am a web designer and graphic artist but I'm not an "app developer." It seems it would just be a matter of creating a square graphic and somehow coding it to download when the "Add to Home Screen" is clicked.
Is this out of my league? Has anyone here made any?

In case anyone else is interested, you just need to create a 57x57 pixel graphic file, saved in PNG format, and named apple-touch-icon.png to place in the root directory of your web site. The iPhone will round the corners and add the glossy-looking overlay to the icon.
If you don't have access to the site's root directory, you can add a link to the file in the head of your HTML page... for example: *<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="http://www.mysite.com/apple-touch-icon.png" />*
Keep in mind, they look best when kept simple.

  • HOME screen icon problems

On a web page everytime i click the + button to add it to home screen, it works but now all my icons for each one i bookmark are the same. They used to be snapshots of the webpage mostly or an official icon like google etc. Now its a set of weights for the icon which is annoying as now i ave about 7 with the same icon.
    Any help would be appreciated

Here is the problem. If the web site does not have a custom made icon in the 'root' directory of their web server, the icon will look like the web page you are bookmarking.
If you want to add an iPhone/iPod touch Home screen icon for your website, create a 57x57 pixel .png image file, name it "apple-touch-icon.png" and upload it to the 'root' directory of your server.
Here is one I created for Macsimum News.
Here is what it looks like on the screen. The iPhone/iPod touch automatically scales the round corners on the image.

  • Instructions to create custom home screen icons for websites and phone #'s

Here are instructions to create a home screen icon for a phone number or a website. This is very cool!
    1. Go to http://webclip.us on your computer (not on your phone) and click on "create now".
    2. In icon label, type what you want to call your icon.
    3. In URL, type either the URL of the website you want to link to, or for a phone number link, type http://##########.tel.QLNK.net (where ########## is the 10 digit phone number you want).
    4. In icon file, click the arrow to browse to the photo or image you want the icon to display.
    5. Enter the security code shown, then click "upload now". You will get a "webclip number".
    6. Now on your iPhone in Safari, go to http://webclip.us and enter the webclip number your computer just generated, and tap Go.
    7. Use the plus sign to add the icon to your home screen, change the name to whatever you want, and you will have a cool little icon with the photo you uploaded!
If you used the phone number option, when you tap the icon on your home page, it will launch Safari and then pop up "Call" and "Cancel" buttons to call that phone number directly. If you used a website URL, it will launch that website just like a regular webclip.
So I now have an icon with my husband's face on it that dials his phone number. Very cool!!

Edit to make it clear that I don't take credit for creating this procedure - I simply found a reference to them in another post and posted the step-by-step here because it worked so well for me.

Do you know if this requires the 1.1.3 upgrade.. I got all the way through it until the end where it would not give me a plus sign or a way to add it.. wondering if it can be done with 1.1.2 thanks!

  • Defaulting to iphone home screen

Has anyone noticed since the latest upgrade of iphone 1.1.1 that when you are using the browser or itunes store that sometimes the screen will momentarily freeze and then switch by itself to the Home screen (icons)? I was using the browser this morning and when I tapped on a link, instead of going to that link it went to the phones home screen as if I had pressed the Home button, which I didn't. Same thing happened a few minutes ago when I was using the itunes store.
anyone seen this happen? Any fix that you know of?
    thanks,
    Gary

Try a Reset by pressing/holding the Home key and Sleep/Wake or On/Off key simultaneously until seeing the white Apple logo which forces a system restart. This does not affect any data or settings.

  • Quick Question about home screen icons?

I just upgraded from the 3g to the iphone 4 and was wondering if there are supposed to be home screen icons for Voice Control and FaceTime?

There are no icons. In Settings > Phone you can activate or deactivate FaceTime: Turn FaceTime on or off.
To activate Voice Control, press and hold the home button.
The iPhone iOS4 User Guide can help a lot.

  • New 1.1.3 feature to move home-screen icons to second page stops working

The cool new iPhone 1.1.3 update feature whereby you touch a home-screen icon for a second or so, and can then customize it's location, by moving it around, including moving to a second home page screen stopped working.
I can still customize the position of icons within a particular home screen, but I can no longer move them from home screen to home screen.
There is a work around, I can shuffle the icon down on to the main icon bar at the bottom, then shift to the second screen, then move the icon onto the second screen from the icon bar at the bottom.
The problem was triggered after I had populated some icons onto a second home screen page, then subsequently removed all icons from the second page - after the number of icons on the second page had hit zero, I couldn't then move more icons back onto it.
Seems like a minor bug - that can be worked around, by shuffling icons down to the button of the screen via the icon bar, but something that should be fixed.
I have not yet tried a cold-reboot, or a system restore on iTunes.

FYI - reboot didn't fix it - I'll do a system restore over the weekend - no doubt that will reset its state sufficiently and the problem will go away. Will be interesting to see if it returns.

  • Why does my home screen icons automatically get bigger

As soon as I turn my iPhone 4s on the home screen icons increase in size automatically and then I am unable to use the bottom of the screen on the home screen and on many apps.  Any way to stop it from doing this?  Thank you

I wanted to also mention that I have gone to Accessibility and made it where it does not zoom with the three finger tap.  That does not fix my problem, but I will say I have to have this feature turned on in order to use the bottom row of my keyboard.  I am able to get to the characters/letters that I need if I zoom in. That and flipping my screen to landscape are the only things that have allowed my phone to function until I can upgrade.

  • IOs Home Screen icons in Muse

    Hi,
I was just wondering how you would export a Muse site with a built in iOs Home Screen icon, enabling those viewing a web page to bookmark a site with custome icon?

Perhaps this is something that could be added for a future release. It is not a complicated feature to add with some simple CSS but if most of us could do that we wouldnt be paying to use Muse. this could very easily be added to the favicon options under "page properties".
Also considering somewhere north of 70% of all mobile web traffic is iOS based Muse should make some consideration to optimize itself to effectivley display and function within the iOS ecosystem. Adobe and Apple may not have the friendliest of track records but those of us looking to turn a profit need it, and Adobe makes a profit off of us so.......think about it?

My home screen icon get misligned when I switch between apps. also subway surfer behave strangley as in there is a graphical glitch

I have no idea what Subway Surfer should look like so I wouldn't know if there was a graphical glitch in your screenshot or not, but I assume that the brown figure on the left side should, have real definition in the features and details in the clothing rather than just look like a smeary brown blob. That's just a guess on my part.
I understand that you paid good money for the device and that it should not be doing what you are experiencing. I would start with the basic troubleshooting steps - moving all the way up to a complete restore of the iOS - and if they don't work, then you will have to contact Apple if you want resolution to the problem. They must have an authorized repair facility that you could send the device to if needed.
    Restart, reset, restore.

  • Arranging Home Screen icons with ios7

Is their any way to manually arrange Home Screen icons with the new ios7?  Since updating,  new app icons are sent to a sencond scree.  I prefer to have them in alphabetical order, but can't seem to do it now.  Any thoughts and/or suggestions?

Tap and hold down on any icon, until they start to shake, then just drag them around.
It works the same way it did on iOS 5 and 6.
To move them to another screen drag them to the side of the screen, and hold them there until the screen changes, you can then drag it around that screen.
