IPhone hotspot is enabled, but nothing can see/connect

I've got an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4, and I have the personal hotspot enabled on my account. I've got the ability to enable the hotspot, and the screen shows that the device is "Now Discoverable". However, if I'm trying to connect via WiFi, almost nothing can connect! Of course, if there is another iProduct that can connect to WiFi, that seems to work more reliably (hmm...). I'm trying to connect with a laptop running Windows XP, the network is not in the list of available networks, and if I manually add the network and set the password for the network and force a connection attempt, nothing happens.
Why is this?! Bluetooth connections seem to work more reliably as well...

    You are making some progress with setup of wireless network. Apparently there is reliability problem with the wireless connection. Perhaps you want to refer to following Apple support documents and start tweaking parameters in the router to improve the reliability. I used to have third-party routers such as Belkin and Netgear but switched to Apple Airport routers (Time Capsule then Airport Extreme for now) because of incompatibility issues whenever Apple upgrade Mac OS X. But since Apple develops Airplay protocol as alternative to Bluetooth for wireless audio/video streaming (with much better bandwidth) and must be deployed in any wireless network, there is no reason third-party routers not working for Airplay protocol.

    Reset the device by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

    Unfortunately I still have 10.81 GB Other-stuff on my iPhone. Even after restoring the whole thing....
    I looked in Settings > General > Usage, and it seems that it was only Programmes that was resuced after cleening that up.... HOPE you have more surgestions!?

    Did anything happen to prior to your phone acting this way? It sounds like your screen is dead, but it is hard to say without knowing what what the cause.
    1) was this a gradual problem? Did the phone screen start dimming a couple months ago and now has degraded or after some event (known or unknown to you), the phone started behaving this way.
    2) Can you give more specifics on the problem? You said you have a black screen, but also you can see what you're doing on screen. Is the screen just really dim? Is the screen completely black? Does anything else besides attempting to reset the device cause it to flash white?

    The following article provides some good information and useful troubleshooting steps for situations where your iPhone appears to not be charging.
    iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
    If you see the image below, charge the phone with an iPhone USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
    You should see this image when iPhone begins to charge:
    If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning iPhone off and then on again.
    If the issue persists, try resetting the iPhone while connected to the iPhone charger.

  • I Suddenly Have No Buddies Online but They Can See Me?

    i am using a MBP 13" running SL fully up to date.
    last week my iChat stopped showing anyone online (they are greyed out) in my contact list but they can see me. i have restarted deleted my accounts and out them back and nothing. i am also having the same issue with the iPhone i sync with my MBP?
    here is what i have tried:
    1. installed Chax for SL and no luck
    2. installed Adium and i does the exact same thing as iChat
    any help would be greatly appreciated as i use this for work interactions.

    If logging the iPhone out does not work on it's Own try re-setting the option to Push the Stuff to the phone (In Accounts in iChat about Enabling the Mobile Phone option)
    The restart iChat and see if that helps.
    With iChat in the General section there is an Option to set you Status To Off Line on Quit. The default is to not do this.
    This leaves you with a partial Login (it's for Off Line Messaging)
    The Mobile Phone option means that you have a virtual presence at AIM All the time.
    If they have a problem with the servers (And it is not uncommon) the "flags" at the servers that say where a message is going and what your On-line Status appears to be gets messed up.
    It is most likely about getting things reset from just one app or device.
    (you may need to set iChat to NOT allow Multiple Logins to sort it)

    i was wondering if it is possible, this person i believe uses a Android or Iphone, for the camera to be turned off for video chat? I can never see the other person but they can see me - and i can see myself during the video chat. My video which they see i also see takes up the whole screen. This issue also is the same for when i use Windows and video chat with this person.

                You have to enable it in SKYPE.  Open up Sykpe click on tools then select options . When that windows opens select video settings. Then you well see select webcam click on White box select your web cam choices. Windos 7 HP computers it is called HP web camra filter. I just close out the filter stuff if I am not using it during chat session. Some HP computers call it cybrlink web cam.  If your web cam isn't listed yet the web cam still works in other applications your Skype software might be corrupted. Just uninstall Sykpe and reinstated it back with a new copy download  http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/   If you are still having issues please let us know. Thank you frrw.

    Again without stating the trouble shooting steps you have taken, its hard to direct you with any information.
    Try a different port on the computer.
    Does the iphone beep when u plug it up. ?
    Plug iphone into computer and give it 3 to 4 minutes to see if it connects and is running slow.,
    Delete the apple mobile device from your computer.
    Upgrade itunes to newest version.
    Is you USB cord defective ?
    Any USB 3.0 on your system ? .
    Delete or Disable  any antivirus program on your computer ?
    I will tell u the problem is your computer not the phone.
    We could do this for hours.
