IPhone IMAP Gmail mailbox behaviors not saved

I setup Gmail as an IMAP account so I can send mail from my own domain. It works, but I cannot get the mailbox behaviors to be saved. I go into Advanced then under Mailbox Behaviors I set Deleted Mailbox to All Mail (on the server), but it will not save that setting. It keeps defaulting back to Trash. I want to be able to delete a message on my phone and have it archived on the server.
I'm running OS 6.0.1 on an iPhone 5

Yes, good question about not playing nice with gmail.
Regarding your iPads, if you do backups to iCloud from them, those backups may occur at random times (e.g., middle of the night). Maybe the thing to do is record your iPads' (plural) gmail account settings, overtly set them the same as your iPhone's, and see if that works.

• Changes to mailbox behaviors not being saved.

Hey guys,
I have two Google accounts set up on Apple Mail. When I try to edit the Mailbox Behaviors (under Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors) they are never saved. My steps are:
1. Go to Mailbox Behaviors
2. Uncheck Drafts & Sent
3. Click the other account, choose another tab, or close preferences
4. Dialog appears asking if I want to save the changes
5. I choose to SAVE.
6. Go back into Mailbox Behaviors - the changes were not saved (i.e. everything is still checked).
Any ideas? I'm running 10.9 on a retina Macbook Pro.

OK...my previous attempt didnt work as the settings came back after a full sync. However, I found another thread that solved my problem. Hope this helps!

Re: Mavericks Mail app and Gmail Drafts folder
Oct 24, 2013 10:30 AM (in response to Igor D.)
I had the same problem and it was causing dozens of versions of autosaved drafts to appear in my Trash. (Gmail autosaves drafts at the server level and trashes previous saves. The feature is not customizable.)
This fixed it for me, at least for the time being:
1) Quit Mail.app.
2) Log into Gmail in your favorite web browser.
3) Click on the gear menu and select "Settings".
4) Click on the "Labels" tab.
5) Under "System Labels", next to "Drafts", click on "show if unread" and uncheck the "Show in IMAP' box.
Now disable "Store draft messages on the server":
6) Launch Mail.app.
7) Select Mail > Preferences...
8) Click on the "Accounts" button in the toolbar.
9) Click once on the account name and then click the "Mailbox Behaviors" tab.
10) Uncheck the "Store draft messages on the server" box.
11) Close the window and opt to save your changes when prompted.
A few other Gmail / Mavericks Mail.app discoveries:
* You must enable the "Show in IMAP" option for the "All Mail" label in Gmail if you had it disabled before. (Google this tip for explanations and ramifications.)
* Mail.app now seems to automatically map the Sent, Junk, Trash and Drafts folders, i.e. you can't use this menu command anymore: Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > Drafts / Sent / Junk / Trash
* I used to add the "[Gmail]" prefix under the "Advanced" tab of my mail account to eliminate it from the IMAP view, but it doesn't seem to be necessary any more, and might even have been causing some weirdness.

• Lion/gmail mailbox behavior options - help!

Can someone please help me understand the Mailbox Behavior options in Lion with IMAP Gmail accounts? The setup that I would like is to have all my messages live on my computer AND on the server. But I cannot figure out which choices give me that! I have been trying to test the options out but have ended up just getting more confused.
When I select "Store sent messages on the server" does that mean that the sent messages are ONLY stored on the server? Or are they on both my computer and the Gmail servers? Or if I do not have it checked does it mean that the messages are stored both on the server and on my computer? Same questions go for Drafts.
My reason for wanting them to "live" both on my computer and on the server is so that I have them available offline, and most importantly, so I have a backup of my own so I am not entirely relying on Google.
I also find the options for Trash confusing. Can someone please define what happens when one or the other options or both are checked?
Don't think this matters but in case you want to know, I have 4 accounts in Gmail. Two are regular Gmail accounts and two go through Google Apps so that I can use my domain name.
TIA

1: Those were local folders. Delete them. They will be recreated again if you ever need them by unchecking storing from the server and once demanded for use.
2: Yes, when you stored messages on the server, it kicked out the local folders to On My Mac.
3: Use the top one. That is the gmail main Sent Messages. The others at the bottom at the gmail site can also be deleted. That section is for folders (labels in gmail terms) that you create at the web site for managing your mail. You can show them in IMAP, but should stay under the gmail folder in Mail. Any label in gmail that you don't want to show in Mail, just uncheck the box to show in IMAP.
4: If you're still having problems:
You may want to backup those sent messages you need to keep. Uncheck store sent messages on the server. Check to make sure you have the correct Sent Messages folder at the website to show in IMAP. Delete the other created in the bottom section in Labels. Quit and restart Mail so that it will sync up with gmail. Resync (Use This Mailbox For) the IMAP Sent Messages to the Sent mailbox in Mail. Check to see that the store messages on the server box is checked in Mail preferences.
5 & 6 & 7: That's what's suppose to happen. It moves out the local folder if one was created and puts the IMAP folder under the main Sent Mailbox. The subfolder under Sent for that account is actually the IMAP folder. That is no longer a local folder. On the advanced tab for the account, you can choose to store messages for offline viewing or not. If not, when you are not online, the messages won't appear on the computer. If you want to view offline when not connected to the internet, then make sure to select to keep messages for offline viewing.
The advantage of this in IMAP is everything done on the Mac will be the same at the website and other devices used to view the mail accounts.
Remember, the Inbox is automatically done for you by default and can't be changed. The rest of the folders you wish to show as IMAP under the main Mail mailboxes is up to you.
You need to understand that doing something in IMAP need to go through the server before it shows on your computer. If you send a message on your Mac, the message needs to be created on the server then is synced to you Mac before you see it there. If there is a delay in syncing, it may not acutally appear for a few seconds in the sent folder. Same thing with other functions, like moving messages to the trash. The server has to remove it from the Inbox, then disappears from the computer inbox, then trashed by the server, then synced to the Mac to show the message in the Trash. You're instructing the server what and how to handle a task rather than the computer.
Remember, when you're looking at the IMAP folder (either under the main mailbox or under the gmail folder), you're looking at a copy of what's on the server.
Read the help sections in gmail. Play around with different settings is the best way to learn. Create another test account in gmail if you don't feel comfortable playing with the others. I also have a hard time with instructions, so sometimes I just have to try and see the results until I do get an understanding of what they are saying. All will be clear with a little trial and error.
Gmail is more complex than other IMAP sites and a bit harder to get use to.
I created a gmail account to play with. I use it very little and get a bit confused myself. That's why I say read the site carefully and learn and understand the settings a little at a time. I think you will get more out of it that way. Then you can post other questions in the future about specific matters that can be answered by me or others who may know a little more about it.

• Mail 3, smtp, IMAP: sent messages are not saved on server

Hello,
I had problems using Mail 3 after I upgraded to Leopard, so I used Thunderbird for the time being. With the update 10.5.1 I tried again: most problems solved BUT: sent messages are not saved on the server in mailbox "Sent".
Some background: I deleted the folder "<User>/Library/Mail" and "<User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist" and configured Mail from scratch.
To be sure: I still have Thunderbird installed, and when I send with Thunderbird: a copy is placed in "Sent".
Another thing I noticed: it takes more than a minute to send from Mail 3 and a few seconds when I send from Thunderbird. I have another Macbook Pro with 10.5.0 installed: same problem with sending.
Any help is appreciated.
rene

Well, be stumped I did all that, but to be sure, I did it again:
I have a lot folders with subfolders and they are shown under my account name.
I created a new folder "test" in my IMAP account and designated it to be the new "Sent" folder. It replaces my previous Sent folder in the group Inbox, Drafts, Trash. My previous Sent folder now appears under my account name as a "normal" folder.
I send a message and the Activity monitor says: +"Delivering message: copying message"+. After a minute Mail is done. I check my (new) "Sent" folder and it's empty. I double check in webmail: it's empty.
So I go to the Finder and look in my IMAP folder: <user>/Library/Mail/<IMAP-account>/test.imapmbox and there is no folder "Messages", only Info.plist.
Then I try to move a message to the "Sent' folder: for a minute the Activity moinor says: Copying messages: copying message" and then Mail prompts: +"The message "testing" could not be+
+The connection to the server mail.hicetnunc.nl on port 143 timed out"+.
So it looks like Mail has a problem with the default "Sent" folder: it cannot copy messages to that folder at all! Aha!
But then I try to move a message to a "normal" IMAP folder: same thing! Mail cannot copy to any folder!
In both instances Mail says: +"The message "..." could not be be moved to the mailbox "..."+
+The connection to the server mail.hicetnunc.nl on port 143 timed out"+
Last thing: I try to move a message to a folder in the same account again. But in the process I quit Mail. I open Mail again and Mail is performing pending operations: copying message. After a while Mail prompts: +"Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)"+ and crashes... I open Mail again and it tries to peform pending operations. Again: an error message and Mail crashes. This keeps going on so I delete the whole account and set it up again. Nothing's changed...
I can receive and send, but sent messages are not copied to the "Sent" folder and I cannot move messages around within a IMAP account. But TADA!!!: I can move messages from account to account.

• Sent items from a shared mailbox are not saved with the shared mailbox

I'm experiencing an issue regarding the sent items from a shared mailbox.
The users would like the items Sent on Behalf of a shared mailbox to be saved within this shared mailbox.
At this moment, the Sent Items are saved in the users own mailbox.
We have a single Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 (Version 14.3 Build 123.4) and Users connecting the Exchange Server are using Microsoft Outlook 2007 (12.0.6680.5000) SP3 MSO.
The user is granted full access permissions on the shared mailbox, and also has "Send on Behalf" permissions on the mailbox. The mailbox is setup as an "online" mailbox, so it doesn't use cached mode.
I tried the following solutions mentioned in the various KB's and technet articles:
Configuring the "DelegateSentItemsStyle" registry setting for this user (using a GPO)
Configured the "Get-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration" cmdlet for this user
Logged on to OWA and changed the "Sent Items" settings to save the sent items in both mailboxes
None of these settings worked, not combined and neither seperately.
Is there anyone who can help me resolving this issues?
Thanks in advance,
Roy Schottmans

I am using a shared mailbox (with a disabled account) where I get sent items and also deleted items placed in the right folders.
I think it’s just a matter of how you configure Outlook. It works well for me in both Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, cached mode and also online mode. You can add a shared mailbox to your Outlook profile in at least two ways where one of them doesn’t work
but the other does.
If you add the shared mailbox via the File tab/Account settings/New/ and just enter the e-mail address of the shared mailbox in the Auto Account Setup page. No name, no password, just the e-mail address and click Next and voila “Your e-mail account is successfully
configured”. After restarting Outlook you will find the shared mailbox below your own in the left pane.
If you click the inbox ones in the shared mailbox and then open a new mail you will see the shared mailbox display name in the From field. After sending the mail you will see the mail in the Sent Items folder of the shared mailbox. If you delete a mail in
the shared mailbox you will see it in Deleted items folder of the shared mailbox.
The prerequisits for this is that you have “full access” and “send as” rights of the shared mailbox.
This was accomplished without using the Set-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration command.
We are running Exchange 2010 SP3 RU4.

• Motion camera behaviors not saving or exporting correctly

I love this program. For $50 it is amazing.
But, I am having issues.
I have a pretty processor heavy project with two replicators running video and a camera doing zooms, sweeps, etc.
I can set up the project exactly how I want it, Save, Close. When I open it back up tomorrow I have issues with Camera behaviors not completing their cycle. They were flawless when I exited the program and now when I open back up its as if they are missing some of their data and just stop mid-behavior.
Example: when using a "Framing" behavior it will start its zoom out but not finish it.
Seperate issue.
When I export the project as H.264 or ProRes 422 (or any export), Motion is not performing the behaviors as it did previously.
I can RAM preview the project and everything looks just fine on playback. Then I export--when QuickTime opens it and I play it back to check it--the video make it somewhere in the middle and a camera behavior doesn't complete its zoom out. How can the export be different if the RAM preview is fine and I change nothing????
Motion crashes all the time too which is super frustrating. Man it is such a great piece of software though.....

Anyone encounter & resolve this issue?
Framing behaviors align perfectly on their targets during playback and RAM renders in the canvas, but are consistently misaligned in any "Share" renders. I've tried it with "Export..." and various "Apple Devices..." settings. Incidentally, those do seem to work up until there are a few Framing behaviors on the same camera, (none of them overlap-- if / when they do conflict, the canvas preview is appropriately affected.) I can't work out which action causes the failure, but it will eventually happen in the canvas, too, if I work on the project long enough! Then the only recourse seems to be deleting the Framing behavior. Simply resetting its parameters does NOT correct the weird alignment. Subsequent targets are not framed correctly.

• I am unable to save my gmail Mailbox behaviors?

I have two issues.
1. Multiple draft copies saved with in my Trash for my Gmail account.
2. Google suggests settings to correct this but with imail it will not let me save the changes I try to make plus, I can not even un-check my Trash behavior options.

Well I figured out how to be able to uncheck and save the save drafts and save sent messages.
Then I already changed that back. Because all the sent messages I had were no longer in the imap folder with in iMail. I need to be able to search that and re-send messages all the time, so did not like that.
But I have never been able to un-check trash settings?
So short answer to your question..yes I can change some settings.

• IOS7: IMAP path prefix is not saved

After updating to iOS7, at first I could still see all the folders on the IMAP server (Sent, Trash, etc. which are all on the level below Inbox, e.g. Inbox/Sent Items, Inbox/Deleted Items -> therefore the IMAP path prefix is "Inbox" - without quotes of course), but then at some point they randomly disappeared. So I checked the IMAP path prefix, which was set to "Inbox" (which worked just fine on iOS6, as it should because of the folder hierarchy on the IMAP server). I tried deleting the Mail account from the iPhone, rebooting, then creating the Mail account again. I tried INBOX, inbox and Inbox/ for the prefix. I noticed that the settings frequently delete the IMAP path prefix (I would type it in, save the Mail settings, check if the prefix was still there and it was gone).
This is the really the first time the IMAP settings on the iPhone are giving me so much trouble and I have no idea what else I could do. The exact same Mail account with the exact same settings worked perfectly with iOS6. Any advice is much appreciated.

Also, the iMAP Path Prefix is entered, but is grayed out, so I get the error message, as above, that the window "cannot be empty." Very frustrating.

Help? I've tried several times to change the greeting on my cell phone 5C, but I'm having a hard time saving it, I keep getting "fail to save"
Is it because I only get 2 out of 5 dots connection (I have AT&T service, which is so bad) .... Can anyone help? Thanks

The current version of iOS for the 3G is 4.2.1... it cannot be upgraded beyond that.

• Weird Behavior not saving correctly

I have a JSP page that uses the <tiles:insert> . Every time I go to save it, it takes the contents of the definition file and INSERTS it at the bottom of the JSP I am working on. I can therefore, never save this file correctly. This appears to be a major bug.
I am working with preview-366

It is indeed a bug that happens in the case of a jsp:include or c:import in a tiles:put tag. For example:
<tiles:insert definition=".layout">
<tiles:put name="body" type="string">
<jsp:include page="/body.jsp" />
</tiles:put>
</tiles:insert>
This is fixed for the next build (>= 367).

Try this ..
On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to: Notes
Then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.
Other than that, try Time Machine > http://pondini.org/TM/15m.html

• Mail not saving changes in Mailbox Behaviors

For one of my accounts since the upgrade to Mavericks when I enter the Mailbox Behaviors section, I found that Drafts, Junk and the one under Trash named Store Deleted messages on the server is checked.
I uncheck them because I doon't want them checked. I Save the changes I made then go back to that account and the same ones I just unchecked are now checked again. Its not saving what I just unchecked.
What the heck is wrong?
Also noticed that in OSX 10.8 I could drag all my email accounts to a different order than the way they are now listed. Can't do that now.

Thanks for discovering this issue being connected to drafts. I have trouble with this for a couple of months as well.
Since you assume it to be connected to "drafts", I suggest to deselect "Store draft messages on the server" for your IMAP-Account. I just did this for myself, to see if it helps, and can't give you results yet. Maybe you just wanna try simultaneously. I guess, the reason for our problem could me some messy communication between Mail and the server, where one party get's confused.

• Mail not saving IMAP drafts or outgoing messages

I've searched the HELP topics and have not seen how to solve this problem. I have multiple accounts set up in Mail; a couple are yahoo.com/sbcglobal.net accounts and a couple are through two different companies for which I work. Most of them are set up as POP accounts, and they are behaving properly. The problem is with the one that is set up as an IMAP account. It successfully sends and receives mail, but it will not save drafts or the outgoing mail. I realize I can blind-copy myself and have the messages saved as incoming, but I'd really like them saved as drafts and outgoing. Thanks for any advice!

Hi Dantedelg,
If you are having an issue with your MacBook Air's Mail application not saving the Sent mail, you may want to check your Mail Preferences under Accounts > your account > Mailbox Behaviors > Sent. What is the setting for Delete sent messages when: set to? You may wish to change this setting. See this article -
Mail (Yosemite): Set up Mail with your email accounts
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

• Sent Messages are not saved in Sent Mailbox

It was working correctly but suddenly all my sent messages are not saved in the Sent Mailbox. I follow all the Mail Help instructions but nothing seems to work. Hope that someone can help me. I asked for help on december 14 but it was not helpful

The mailboxes drawer contains all mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (if you have Junk Mail set to automatic).
If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account, you also have an account named icon for the .Mac or IMAP type account at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer. It is named by the Account Description you provided/entered for the account under the Account Information tab for the account preferences.
If you select save Sent messages on the server for a .Mac or IMAP type account, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under the account named icon in the mailboxes drawer along with all other server stored mailboxes.
To open the account named icon for your .Mac account to reveal the server stored mailboxes including the account's Sent mailbox, select the black triangle beside your .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer pointing it down.
Select the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.
If you deselect store Sent messages on the server for the account preferences, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under Sent in the mailboxes drawer and you can't use "Use This Mailbox For" for mailboxes stored locally on the hard drive. It can only be used for .Mac or IMAP type account mailboxes that are stored on the server.
