I admit that I think is the best iphone cell in the world, but I am in complete disagreement with the company that will be in charge of distributing the iphone in chile .. I'm talking about Claro, since this company has very poor telephone coverage.
Is it not better apple do treatment with Entel chile or movistar? These companies have an axelente national coverage.

You won't be able to use the iPhone in Chile at this time.
BTW, Santiago is a terrific city. Hopefully, Apple will contract with a cellular company and bring the iPhone to Chile and Latin America in the future.

Mala señal para iphone en chile por movistar

Lamentablemente hay algo que en chile empaña lo espectacular que es el iphone.
la señal que provee movistar en chile es mala. tengo los siguientes problemas:
- se pega
- se cortan las llamadas
- cuando hablo hace interferencia con un transformer (ruido metalico)
- no puedo marcar
- la señal se cae
- no funciona el 3g
etc, etc, etc.......algunos dicen que es problema del iphone, pero a otra personas con movistar no le funciona.
alguien me puede orientar o contar su experiencia.

Y que haz hecho para intentar remediar le problema?
El Primer paso seria sacar la tarjeta sim y vovlerla a insertar. Con un alfiler o clip expulsar la charola lateral con la sim y posteriormente volverla a insertar.
El siguiente paso, seria reiniciar el telefono a ver si se resuelve. Mante presionado los botones de Home y Encendido simultaneamente hasta que aparezca le logo de Apple en la pantalla.
S aun no se resuelve: Quejate con tu compania de servicios celulares. Ellos son responsables del servicio y la tarjeta Sim. Si no encuentra la red celular tienes que hablar con tu proveedor. Apple no controla los servicios celulares. Solamente provee el dispositivo.
Ellos tendrian que darte solucion si es un problema con sus servicios o reemplazarte el celular si tiene algun fallo y aun esta en garantia.

Hola de nuevo. Vodafone no te puede liberar el telefono. Vodafone lo que hace es darle a Apple su autorización para que tu telefono se libere al restaurarle el software con iTunes. Sin esa autorización Apple no puede (bajo contrato con Vodafone) liberar tu terminal porque se supone que Vodafone ha subvencionado el coste del iPhone y unicamente Vodafone puede acceder a su liberación.
Si Vodafone te dice que ya ha dado su auitorización pero el iPhone no se libera cuando lo restauras con iTunes da la impresión que Apple no ha recibido esa autorización o no ha procedido a introducir los datos de tu iPhone en su base de datos para que pueda quedar liberado al restaurarlo. En mi opinión Vodafone debería ayudarte a comunicarte con Apple para resolver el tema pero ya que no quiere, lo tendrás que hacer tu.

Thanks for your reply however the Apple stores in Chile don't stock iPhones and there is no Apple Chile website. Three carriers do however stock them yet they are only available with 18-24 month contracts. I am looking for an unlocked iPhone which I can use with any carrier.

IPhone 5 A1428 Wil Work AWS Carriers such vtr in Chile

I have a question. Will iPhone 5 (A1428) Will Work on USA (T-Mobile, Cincinnati Bell Wireless), Canada (WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Videotron), Chile (VTR, Nextel)?.
I especially interested on vtr carrier in Chile, the don't have offcialy iPhone 5, but I used two iPhone4 sice last year, vtr has a AWS network and a roaming service with Movistar (GSM), my iPhone is from Entel (GSM).
If I buy an iPhone in Chile (Movistar, Claro, Entel) I think, I will buy A1429. If I bought throught Apples Store I'll receive A1428, I want to know if it will work on vtr's AWS network.

Look at the specs page for the iPhone and see if it supports the appropriate network.
Keep in mind that warranty and support are only valid in the country of origin.
If the iPhone is available in your country, buy it there.
You cannot purchase an iPhone from any country's store and have it shipped outside that country. In other words, if you buy the iPhone from the US online store, you must have a US billing and shipping address.
The A1428 is only sold in North America.

Apple time zone information incorrect

The Chilean government changed their daylight savings time switchback dates in response to the February 27th earthquake, but the Apple Clock app doesn't reflect this change, incorrectly reporting the time in Chile. Any chance an update could be provided since there is still some time before Chile switches over?

Does the carrier for the iPhone in Chili support setting the date and time automatically for every phone connected to their network as long as a phone connected to their network supports this?
Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
Is a Set Automatically selection available? If so, is set Automatically selected?
If this is not available on your iPhone or not supported by your carrier, you must set the date and time manually.
If this setting is available, turned on, and your carrier supports this, you need to contact your carrier which is where this data is being acquired from.

You cannot purchase an iPhone from Apple on-line except in your own country. Apple will NOT ship an iPhone out of the country the store is for.

This means that the phone can't be used with another SIM and is locked to the original carrier. If this carrier does not offer to unlock the phone for the use with a different SIM, the phone can't be unlocked, and Apple can not change that. The unlocking has to be started and officially supported by the original carrier.
