IPhone in Ocean.

Hello everyone.
I know this is a long shot, but I am trying to get my iPhone working again after I went into the ocean with it. I also had my Sony Cyber Shot in my pocket and after a replacement lens assembly & new battery it is just fine.
I took the phone apart totally. I assume the battery is shot–there is a bit of corrosion on the 4 contacts from the salt water. After removing the battery, I reassembled the phone but it does not load past the  logo screen. The screen just turns off and it seems as though individual rows of pixels individually turn off over a period of 45 seconds. I thought that this may be due to the fact that I took the battery out & it is failing at a certain point during start-up... or maybe it is due to the fact that it went into the ocean with my dumb%@$
Any suggestions will be truly appreciated. At this point I am stuck with using an old Treo it really *****–Every time I try to scroll with a swipe of a finger I miss my iPhone.

I think you're OK submerging it in distilled water which has very low conductivity. I'd submerge it, shake it around, pull it out and shake it out. The pipette would work to get some force down into the crevices. Do this a few times and then dry it in rice or something similar. You might put it in a sock or women's hose to keep the rice from getting into crevices. You might also place it above a lamp to speed up the drying process. This worked well for me with me wet PDA. Good luck.

  • A iPhone 4S (currently in possession of it) was dropped into the ocean and we can get it into DFU and recovery mode, but we can't get it to go to the lock screen or home screen the phone just gets stuck on the apple symbol, how can I fix this?

Hey, apparently this iPhone 4S was dropped into the ocean and the light for the camera and a light where the 3G/4G bar is are both glowing. The iPhone 4S, I assume, was on iOS 5.1.1 I need help getting off info from it WITHOUT RESTORING IT. I'm not sure if Apple has any third party apps that they are allowed to suggest to us or if I'm on my own on this one, but if you guys can help I would greatly apperciate it.
    Thanks!

Those are definitely features of liquid damage. First step after completely drying the iPhone would be battery replacement. The camera circuitry and proximity sensor circuitry are surging because you are seeing these lights.
New battery may get this booted back up so you can recover data, or even get the iPhone working again.

  • Why iphone 4 cannot establish position in the middle of the ocean?

I am in the middle of the ocean and ofcourse no gsm range.
Maps showing that cannot determinat position.
Gsp cannot fix position without gsm support?

Have you power cycled it?  Or maybe just try a simple reset
Reset the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time.
Hold them both until you see the screen go black and the white Apple logo appear.
When this happens, you can let go - the iPhone is rebooting.
I'm thinking that if the GPS works like, say a Garmin or TomTom, it caches satellite infomation to be able to connect more rapidly the next time it is used.  If that cache is stuck on information that does not apply (where you are now, the satellite's available to it will be different), a reset should flush the cache and force it to re-find available satellite signals.  It may take several minutes to get a fix once you reboot and try it though.

  • Living near the ocean apparently breaks your iPhone every 6 weeks...

12 weeks ago I moved into a (very poorly ventilated and very humid) house across the street from the beach. 6 weeks after living here, my iPhone 4S gradually began to stop charging correctly. Once the 6 week mark hit, it just stopped charging completely. I brought my phone in to apple and although the LCI had absolutely no activation... the "genius" told me there was minor corrosion from water damage. When he refused to believe me that my phone had no contact with water, I asked him if it was possible that my new living situation could have caused the corrosion. His response, "Absolutely not, I've never heard of such a thing". All was great until about a week ago (5 weeks after getting my "new" phone) when the same problem began occuring. As of this morning, my phone will no longer charge. Again, I have never had this phone anywhere near water. Called apple and they told me to come in and meet with a genius, but I will most likely have to pay for the warranty phone again. The real joke of it all is that I just purchased the 5S online, but it's not supposed to arrive until November. Such a bummer.
I've done my research on here and it seems this has happened to a lot of people.
my question is does anyone know of a way I can prevent this? My coworker suggested a dehumidifier but I have high ceilings and a big room so I'm not too sure it will work very well. Maybe a lifeproof case? Any help will be much appreciated!

I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

At this point I am not sure if I should replace the battery and hope for the best, or just junk the phone, I cannot really sell it if I cannot reset it...

  • Can I sync a MacBook Pro to my iMac.......like syncing my iPhone or iPod Touch...using a common USB cable?

    Hullo all.
Am curious to know whether I can, on a regular basis, sync my new MacBook Pro to my main machine, the 27 inch iMac?
Obviously I do this with my iPhone, iPad2 and my iPod Touch.
I guess I would use a USB to USB cable...which I have, to allow the two Mac's to talk to each other.
Any suggestions? I do have Chronosync...should I try this application?

ps, I did buy the new iPad2 and love it...but, for all its brilliance , it is not a MBP......obviously!
So, I bought a new one to the one I sold a few months back, and it is fabulous, got a 500 gig machine this time!

Comment was an after thought! But it might help explain my situation!

Hi all, a bit surprised at total lack of feedback!
Maybe with the Cloud coming, we don't need to worry about manually syncing devices!!
So, can I conclude that you can't really 'sync' a MacBook to an iMac?
    Appreciate an answer
    Thanks

  • IPhone 6 Plus - calendar does not sync

I usually put in my appointments through my Mac.
And then, when I sync and backup my iPhone, it should sync and update the calendar, too, shouldn't it?
Well it doesn't. Nothing I put in on my Mac shows up on the calendar on my iPhone.
How do I enable calendar syncing?

    Hi, Ocean 17.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need a little more information regarding your Mac operating system to give you a better answer.  However, I would make sure that iCloud calendar is enabled.  Here are some troubleshooting steps that I would go through for this.

  • Recovering data from iphone backup?

    Hey guys,
I am busting my head over here trying to figure out how to do this.. to make a long story short, I've had a very unlucky past few weeks. My iphone (4g 32gb) fell into the ocean and all the data I had is lost. But then I rememberd I can still recover it from the itunes backup. Ordered a new phone.. the phone just came and before I could do a recovery from it we had a power outage and my laptop got fried. I've been told that the motherboard is fried and since it was an old laptop I didnt bother trying to fix it. (I switched to a MacBook Pro early this year - although the syncing was done on the windows laptop). So.. I took apart the laptop, took the hard disk and connected it to an external USB enclosure. I can access all the data from the hard disk. My question is, can I use this hard disk to do a recovery on the iphone? The old laptop was running on Windows 7. I have access to another laptop with windows 7 & windows xp & mac OSX Lion
-I've already tried booting from the hard disk, it wouldnt boot.. I keep getting the blue screen of death.
As long as I can get the contacts, sms's and photos on the new iphone im good.
Thank you in advance for your feed back!

I think its time to buy a samsung galaxy... and yes i know that if i would have manually backed up my photos then i wouldnt be in this prediciment, but it all went sound when the backup proceedure that apple build into their products failed.

  • [Problem] Noise/Rustle with iPhone headphones

    Hi guys,
first of all i must apologise for my english, it is not my native language, but hopefuly you will understand what i'm saying. Second of all, this may not be a very big deal for some of you, but it is for me and i'm very sure for others too.
The actual problem is a noise/rustle that i hear whenever i plug in my headphones into the iphone. It is like when you listen to the ocean through a sea shell . It really bothers me and i don't think this is an acceptable flaw. The courious thing is that this doesn't happen if i use the "line out" connector from behind the dock (maybe the mic connector and the amplifier are by-passed). Does enyone has the same problem or know the answer to this one? If you don't know how to test this, please follow these instructions:
    1. open iPod aplication on your iPhone and start playing any song;
    2. pause the song;
    3. move the volume knoob at minimum
(At this point) Did you noticed a small pinch? I'm guessing that is the amplifier switch off (so maybe is it ok?)
    4. move the volume knoob to the right (the pinch noise kicks again but with that also comes the noise i described upper in this post - sea shell noise)
i've checked this with some of my friends and only one of them reported a similar result. what could be the problem?
i was also thinking this is because of low impedance and high sensitivity of the headphones.
    Thanks in advance,
    aveul

Do you get the same noise when you connect a different set of earphones to the iPhone?

  • Does anyone make a water-tight, fully submergible, case for iPod Touches?  I am looking for one that could be taken into a pool or ocean, so that you could take underwater pictures.  Thank you!

Does anyone know if anyone makes a waterproof, fully submergible case for iPod Touches, 4th Generation? I am looking for one that can be taken into a pool or ocean, where I would be able to take underwater pictures or videos. I've tried numerous web sites, including "Otter Box", but have been unable to find one for the iPod Touch.  I believe there might be one out for iPhones, but can't find one for an iPod Touch. Thank you for any help.

    I found this review...

Unfortunately, it sappears that the cameras are covered by the cases. I'm look too as I'm starting SCUBA lessons.

  • How to unblock an US iPhone to use it in France

Hi everybody I'm French so excuse me for my bad english...
My sister offered me her iPhone wich she used with AT&T phone operator, and she told me that it was unblock but when I put my SIM card, iPhone write : SIM no valid, ask your phone operator to unblock your iPhone.
How can I ask to AT&T to verify that this iPhone is really unblock and if it don't, how can I unblock it?
    Thank you.
    Oceane.

If your sister already was told the phone is unlocked, you need to install your sim and activate to complete the unlock.
Per apple support: If you have a SIM card from a carrier other than your current carrier, follow these steps:
Remove your SIM card and insert the new SIM card.
    Complete the setup process.

  • Can pictures be recovered from iPhone that no longer works?

My iPhone is no longer in working condition due to the fact that the ocean waves took the life of my phone. I had alot of pictures and videos on there that were precious to me. Can those pictures and videos be rovered?

Plug the device into your computer, preferably a PC. Go to your start menu > my computer ( or Computer for windows 7 / Vista) Look for removable device or iPhone. Double click the iPhone and open the two or three folders and there are your photos. Simply drag them to your desktop or wherever.

My iphone 5 fell in the ocean and I only care about getting my pictures, what can I do if it doesn't turn on?

Nothing. If the phone won't even power on, there is no way for you to get them off.
A 3rd party data recovery service may be able to do so, but you will forfeit your ability to get a discounted replacement phone when/if they open the case of the phone.

My iPhone overheats. Battery drops from 100/90% to 10% sudenly. Got the device 20 days ago. I'm currently living in The Hague, there is no Apple Store in this city, took an appointment in Amsterdam, after 3 hours drive and 60€ travel cost got into the Apple Store, 73 minutes delay on my appointment the Genius  tech tells me I should leave my device for further checks in the store and come back in a week or two. Not presicely the answer I was looking for, plus he did not have any device to lend me until my iPhone was checked. Quite dissapointed, Apple was standard for quality on customer satisfaction, in the last 10 years I bought 3 MacBooks, 5 iPdas, 7 iPods, 5 iPhones and 2 iMACs... please don't let me down. Dear Ocean, one is a complaint about the quality of the device.
The second about the quality on response from Customer Service.
No worries, I'll delete both post since it seems that won't bring anything productive.
    Good bye Apple!

  • Closed Captioning of iTunes movie rentals on iPhone

I rented a movie from iTunes that is closed captioned (Oceans Eleven) and I turned on closed captioning on my iPhone (settings, iPod, closed captioning on). Yet, no closed captions display when I watch the movie on my iPhone. What am I missing? Why are captions not able to be viewed?

OK, it was Oceans Thirteen, not Eleven. But the caption symbol is displayed in iTunes. I tried playing it on my iPhone and my Mac Pro, no dice. Captioning does not work on either system and captioning is turned on in both.
