IPhone in the Toilet... literally.

My friend and I sat in line and got our iPhones on the same day... release day. Last Friday he walked into the bathroom and saw his iPhone in the bottom of the toilet. His one-year-old little girl likes to throw things in the toilet. He walked back into the living room and just stared at the floor.
Now get this... he pulled the iPhone out of the toilet... two days later before he was to send it back to Apple to get checked out... he plugs it in and turns it. Fires right up with no problem except for a little condensation under the screen. Anyway... I wouldn't go SCUBA diving anytime soon with one though.

i dropped a canon digital camera in about an inch or two of water in the bottom of a canoe and immediately grabbed it out. I took it home and "dried it out" to the best of my ability--removed the battery and mem card and left the door open.
It wouldn't come back to life. I sent it back for repair and they denied coverage -- sent me instead a color photocopy or digital photo printout, not sure which, of the mother board, with white crud "growth" on it, which they said showed it had been exposed to moisture.
I don't have a problem with their diagnosis or their warranty rejection. But i thought the damage done by such a short-lived drop in water was worth mentioning in this thread.

  • I dropped my iPhone in the toilet?

So, I was in my bathroom just about to get in the shower while listening to music, being the clumsy person I am, I ended up dropping my iPhone in the toilet. I quickly gathered the iPhone, and placed it in rice. I waited 3 days, and if I plug it into my laptop, it turns on for about 10 seconds (only logo appears) then it shuts off. I was wondering if I visited the Apple Store, would they replace this? I have an iPhone 4.
    Btw, I don't have a warranty.

It was $99 with a contract heavily subsidised by the carrier.
Retail price for a new one without the carrier subsidy is $450.

  • I dropped my iphone in the toilet what do i do??!!

help i droped my iphone in the toilet i dried it of sucked all the waer out and now its in a bag of rice help!!!!

Keep it in the bag of rice for 5 to 7 days and then see if it will power on. It may or may not be working. If not, you can get an out of warranty replacement if that is the case.

  • HT201406 Lost my iPhone in the toilet, touchscreen doesn't respond. What to do?

So i managed to drop my iPhone in the toilet..
Worked for a few moments, but then the touchscreen stopped responding, which lead to not being able to turn it off. The power button was half jammed from earlier that week, and in the desperation of flickin and clickin it got stuck. It later turned off due to empty battery.
It was a stessful day, and i only had time to put it in my pocket rolled inside some tissues and hope for the best.
Before bedtime i put it in a drying room. It was there till around 9am next morning. I had to turn it on (via charging it) because my train ticket was only available on the phones app. The phone turned on normally and wasnt icy cold or too hot, the push notifications popped up on the screen and the screen was lit up as it should. The only problem was (and still is) that the screen isn't responding to any touch. Siri is working and can do some tasks, but as you'll understand i need the screen aswell.
This occured 2 days ago, and the screen isn't functioning yet. The phone is dry like a desert, and everything else is as it should.
    Any suggestions?

Probably Your Touch screen input is damaged. Visit nearest apple service centre and replace it.

  • I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. I pulled it out right away, dried it with the hair dryer, and put it in a plastic bag with rice. Is there anything else I should do?

Once in water you will always have issues. I would replace it. Your homeowners insurance may cover it.

  • I dropped my iPhone down the toilet! 4s

I dropped my phone down the toilet after a night out!
In the morning after, I found my phone on the floor where it had been drying out over night.
Since this it has been in a bag of rice for 32 hours but still no sign of life.
The top one button had already broken so to switch the phone on it needed to be put on charge or plugged into the computer but both these things haven't sprung the phone into life!
I have heard a red mark should be seen in the charger point to state water damage but I can't see this.
Does this mean there is hope for it to start working again?
And is there anyway to get my information, picture, ect of the phone if it is completely broken?

Your data from the device may have been automatically backed up to icloud. If after 72 hours in the rice the device still does not respond - I'm hoping you have backed up your data to icloud.
    Good luck.

  • I dropped my iphone in the toilet and follwed the instructions to put it in a bag of rice and wait it out. but this morning it came back on because of an alarm after only about 10 hours. How screwed am I that it won't com back on?

They said it could short ciruit if I turned it on too soon. How bad will it be?

    Bad
iPhones and water do not mix
The rice trick needs several days if it now will not work

  • Dropped my iphone in the toilet.

It was in there for a second, but it turned itself off. But there is still a little red light on at the top of the screen. I've vaccummed it to draw out any excess water and put it in rice in a warm place. Is there any hope for me?!

I would use Silica Gel packets... not rice if possible as rice grains have that fine white powder that will get all in the phone... wrap it well in something else then put it in rice if you can't get Silica Gel to use... let it dry in there for a while... the longer the better chance of recovery... as stated don't plug in or try to turn on during the dry period...
if all else fails and it won't work again, then your only option is to get a new phone... Apple does have a water damage out of warranty program to replace the damaged phone...

  • I dropped my iphone in the toilet. it doesnt work, doesnt charge, doesnt  reset or connect to itunes. aside from crying, what can i do?

i dont want to  go to the apple store  because i'm lazy. so any help?

There's nothing really to do.  If it is that unresponsive, it is almost assuredly fried beyond recovery.  All you can do is...go to an Apple store (sorry, there's nothing anyone can do about the lazy thing)... pay the $199 (in the USA at least) out of warranty replacement fee and get another one.

  • Drop my iphone in the toilet and now is in recovery mode, if i restore will i lose my pictures?

    i need help

Don't turn a water soaked electronic device on.  Pack it immediately in rice and wait until it is completely dry.  Even if it works initially components may corrode and eventually fail.  There are "Bags" you can buy to restore a water soaked cell phone (one time bags, or multi-use bags).  If you don't have one of these bags, then rice is the best thing I know of.  Obviously if you can get the phone to your service provider or an Apple Store that would be your best solution.

  • I dropped my iPhone 5 in toilet, it worked again, but a week later is doesn't anymore.

A week ago today, I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. The bottom half was submerged. I took it out immediately and tried to dry it. I had to get to class so I wiped it and put it face down in front of a fan on a paper towel so it could drain. I went to class for an hour and half then got rice from the store. I rushed back and put my phone in it over night. The next day, I plugged it in and it began to charge again. I had some issues the first day with the touch capabilities working sometimes and not other times. After that day, it worked fine again, except the regular camera and flashlight do not work. That didn't really matter to me as I am upgrading in a few months and the front-facing camera still works. The phone turns off near 20% battery, which is not too bad. Now, today, my phone died around 9%, but I didn't notice for awhile that it was dead. I plugged it into my laptop, but the phone charger was starting to rip. I thought that was why it wasn't charging. Then, I used another cord and it still did not charge. My two roommates each tried to get it to charge and both dropped my phone on the floor (Not sure if that has anything to do with the problems I'm having). I let it sit then plugged it back into my laptop. The battery picture with the red line showed up. I let it stay plugged in for about half an hour to come back to a phone with still a black screen. It was very hot so I unplugged it. I let it sit then retried again. The battery picture has not come back and it will not respond to charging from either an outlet or laptop. Not sure what to do or what is causing this. I read online that people used the "hard restart" with the home and lock buttons, but it is not working. I think it may be from dropping it in the toilet and falling on the floor, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Or at least get it to charge?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. ASAP.

Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
