IPhone in water....remedy?
Hi Everyone,
My wife got her iPhone quite wet in her purse last night. It sat in water for a few minutes probably. I got it out and dried it off (it was in a leather case, the phone itself wasn't terribly wet). Immediate after I dried it, someone called the phone. The screen didn't come on, but it was vibrating like she had a call. It stopped...and I called her with my phone, and it vibrated again. The screen wasn't coming on, but the phone seemed to be working. Once we got home, I put it in a container with raw white rice and some silicon gel packets to dry it out. That was about 20 hours ago.
Anyhow have some ideas on next steps? I.e. how long should it stay in the container? Anything else I can do ? Thanks so much!!
Hi. My 2 year old daughter dropped my iPhone in the toilet (clean water thankfully!). Anyway, like an idiot I tried to use it while it was wet and the screen shorted out, blinked erratically a few times and the light stopped working. I let it dry out a little and the screen turned on and flickered, but still no backlight. At this point it would only work in speakerphone mode and not very well. Also, there was visible water behind the camera window.
I use my phone for work (i'm on call 24/7) so I needed to get a new one (so I thought). I rushed to the Apple store and got a 3gs after the genius verified that one (the bottom) water indicator was red and I thought it was hopeless to think the phone would be usable again. New iPhone purchased and activated I went home and thought of something.
Just for the heck of it, and with nothing to lose, I placed the still wet iPhone in two socks, put the socks in a towel and put a bungee cord around the whole thing. I put it on low heat for about 30 mins and took the phone out. It looked dry and the water behind the lens was gone. I turned it on...
it worked perfectly. The screen, the backlight, the microphone, the speaker, the camera..everything worked flawlessly. I went back to the Apple store 5 days later to return the 3gs and we swapped sim cards (according to AT&T rep's instructions). There was no restocking fee, no activation fee imposed, etc.
That was a month ago. The phone is STILL like it's brand new out of the box, save for the tripped water indicator and no more warranty.
Just thought I'd share that with you.
Good Luck!!
Rob

A very good friend of mine dropped her iphone into water and now it is not working. Her husband recently passed away and text messages from him and from well wishers after his decease are feared lost. Is there any way to retrieve them?
I suggested contacting Compub in Nassau St as the info is priceless and worth the trouble of trying to regain?
Any thoughts? The poor lady is very distressIf she has backed up her iPhone she can replace that iPhone and set up the new iPhone from her backup.
You can put the iPhone that went into water into a plastic baggie with either new silica gel packets (preferred) or raw rice and let it sit for 4 - 5 days. After that time remove the phone and connect it to power for at least a half hour. While it is still connected to power reset it by holding down the power and hold button, wait for the Apple logo then let go of the buttons. Might take several tries. If it revives immediately back it up. -
Hello, I live in Uruguay and I dropped my iphone in water. How I can get the out-of-warranty replacement? There is no apple store in Uruguay.
You can also try the Support site:https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.action
And the ExpressLane for a service request: https://expresslane.apple.com -

If you have a 4S and AppleCare+, it reduces your cost for a replacement to $49. Otherwise, no.

Is Iphone 6 water resistant or proof?
Is the Iphone 6 water resistant or proof? I can't find any information about this at the website and I am curious to know either way.
Well, then you are only repeating what is being discussed rather than providing information based on specifications that you have actually seen. Here are the specifications for the iPhone 6 provided by Apple. I see something about humidity in the Environmental Requirements, but do not see anything specifically referring to "water resistance". So, no - it is not specified by the Apple Spec Sheets. Best not to attack people who are providing actual links to the place where the real Apple specs are, because you read something different on the internet....

IPhone in water - Operable when plugged in, no service no wifi.
I dropped my iPhone in water. I let it sit in rice over night, unopened. iPhone works when plugged in but has no wifi or service. Phone doesn't power on when not plugged in. The date reset, can't turn wifi on, and i am also getting kernal panic error CRC ERR! Any chance this is a software problem?
Can this be fixed? Can Apple replace for a charge for water damage? Phone is less than 1year old. Any help would be appriciated. Not a software problem.
Doubtful if one night in rice was close to enough time after being submerged in water, but too late now.
Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price that pays for an exchange at a significantly reduced price off the full retail sales price. For an iPhone 4 the cost is $200 or so in the U.S. -

About a Month ago I dropped we went swimming and I dropped my iPhone in water and it works fine except at the top for the signal it says searching. Can you please help me with this problem?
It's very likely that the phone is permanently damaged - water corrodes the very fine copper strips which form the circuitry very quickly - but only a service engineer can tell you what its condition is and whether it can be restored to health. If possible take it to an Apple Store (make an appointment) for a free assessment. Don't be surprised if you are told you will have to replace it.

I dropped my iphone in water and the phone will not turn back on or charge...
I dropped my iPhone in water and the phone will not turn back on or charge... I know its probably fried and I need it repaired but is there any possible way I would be able to save the information that was on it. Pictures or videos? Most of my pictures were saved on my i Cloud, but some information had not been uploaded like my videos.
Does apple provide any sort of recovery services?
Thanks
JesusHi jesusdeloera,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If your iPhone was being backed up to the iCloud or iTunes, you will be able to restore from that backup and recover the data that was on the device at the time of backup once you have your iPhone repaired. Please review the attached information about iCloud and iTunes backups.

I dropped my iphone into water yesterday and i left it sitting in rice all night and it wont turn on. Any other ideas or should i just leave it for a little while longer?
Leave it there for at least 3 or 4 more days. You may have to spring for an out of warranty replacement, though, in the long run.

Iphone 4 water damage to the battery
i dropped my iphone in water for less then 6 seconds and let it dry for about 48 hours. It turned back on and everything works fine, speakers and touch screen is all fantastic but now 2 days later of using it, it shuts off a lot randomly and i stupidly let the battery die and now it's not charging properly. I'm wondering if anyone knows if I just change the battery if it would fix my problem ?
Take it in for diagnosis. No one here can fix water damage.

<Personal Information Edited by Host>Sorry, it appears you were scammed. The phone you have was replaced, either under warranty, or as an out of warranty replacement, & should have been returned to Apple. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous retailers will fix these phones, & then re-sell them. Your only option is to go back to whoever you purchased the phone from & confront them

HT201401 what if i dropped my iphone in water
what if i dropped my iphone in water?
Chesterapple-the day before last Christmas, I dunked my 4 into a full glass of Coke. :/ I popped it out immediately, but all ports had gotten submerged. Hoping for best, but expecting the worst, because I ruined a Touch this way-I went into immediate damage control. Powered off the phone, dried with a soft towel as much as I could, then wiped the sticky Coke off. I even put the hair dryer to it's 'butt port'. Then, within minutes-I had it submerged in a baggie of white rice AND about 5-6 of those silica gel little packets that come in shoe boxes? You know what I'm referring to? Luckily, I keep all my shoes in their original box, lol. The silica draws water out of things. So, I put the phone, now covered over it's head with rice & silica packs-in a dark cabinet, sitting on it's back, completely submerged.
My contract was up anyhow, and the 26th, Best Buy offered upgrades for 5C's for free....so, yeah, went for that! Lol. I still checked in on my 4 about a week later...it was not well, turned on, but downhill from there, so I powered it off, and gave it up for dead. I was upset because I was going to use it just for an iPod. But, I still set it back up in the rice cocoon..why not?
About mid-Feb, I noticed it again in the cabinet & decided to see if it ever healed. It was half sticky and tons dusty with rice, plus some grains had gotten caught up in the butt port. So, cleaned it up again, gently got rice out. Held my breath, powered......and it came on! Not only that-it was PERFECTLY FINE. All my settings/wallpapers/contacts/apps/msgs, everything. Fine. Expected it to wack out any minute....left it on a few days to see. But it was fine, good as new! I deleted all off it, and now use it as an iPod, perfectly. Oh, one issue-water damage light came on and apparently will never leave. No biggie, since I'm keeping it. So, there's another miraculous back from the dead, but certainly don't expect it-not the norm. But, possible!
