IPhone/iPad connectivity under xfce4

Running xfce4 here and installed a patched version of libimobledevice (see flyspray #26710).  I can now successfully mount my ipad using ifuse.  My question is, can I get thunar to auto mount it like Gnome does?
I spun-up a quick Arch install on a spare partition and booted into it.  The Gnome DE provides this (gnome-shell) this functionality:

graysky wrote:@tomk - one thing that the nautilus integration provides is access to "ipad docs" which I cannot figure out how to get with ifuse.
ifuse man page wrote:--appid APPID
mount 'Documents' folder of app identified by APPID.
That works, just tried it. If you don't know your APPIDs, ideviceinstaller can get them for you - git build is in the AUR.
So a udev rule and some script to wrap ifuse and ideviceinstaller should do it - I'm going to throw something together now, see how it goes.

    Thanks!

Try this fix discovered by User photosb189:
From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto.

Has anyone any advice on how to maximise the connection speed between Iphones, Ipads etc... with the BT Home Hub 4.  The broadband speed to the house seems fine (7mbs DL). and any PC or MAC wireless device has great wifi connection.  BUT I simply have awful connection with any I device. They seem to hang on any wifi demand. I cant even listen to LBC!
I have contacted BT - but no advice given. I did not have this wifi issue with SKy - but moved as BB to house was traffic managed.

If that doesn't work try g
iving the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies different SSids. Just add a 5 to the end of the 5Ghz SSid so you know which is which. Check the 5 GHz Sync with 2.4 GHz: is set to NO.
Once you have done that "forget" the connection and then restart the phone and ipad and log onto both. They should then automatically switch to the strongest signal.
You'll need to connect your other devices that can use both frequencies to both SSids if you want them to be able to use both frequencies.

  • IPhone/iPad connection error after first login ok: The request timed out. (-1001)

    Hi
I have installed SAP 9.0 PL 12, DI API all version, Integration Component of the SAP 9.0 PL12.
On my iPhone I have the 1.10.1 version of the app SAP.
I followed the directions provided in the note (also in 1602674) and in the forum, but nothing.
I start my PC (server with integration installed), do all the tests possible dall'integration admin and I always correct results.
Start app from my iphone, it connects to my DB but.... after a few minutes I get the error
"Connection Failed - The request timed out. (-1001)"
and then throws me out of the db.
If I try to reconnect, re-entering the password I have always the same error.
To reconnect, I have to restart the PC and the situation repeats itself (is the first logon, then I get the error and I can not reconnect).
    Can anyone help me?
    THANKS

Update: I only changed the startup type of the service DI Proxy, Event, Integration, and instead of putting 'Automatic' I selected 'Automatic (Delayed Start)'.
I rebooted the server and I was able to connect the iPhone via app to my DB: I was about an hour, I created BP, made changes, displayed report.
    I then did the logoff.
I tried to reconnect but nothing is returned the error 'Connection Failed - The request timed out. (-1001)'.
Even after restarting the server again, the app connects after about two minutes I get the error 'Connection Failed - The request timed out. (-1001)' and is no longer relates only after you restart the server.

  • Iphone4 wont connect to home wifi connects to neighbors..others iphones ipads connect to this wifi cannot change it and cannot access apps store. Does nor request password just "cannot access"

Iphone 4 wont connect to home wifi but connects to neighbors open wifi.  Family members with iphones can connect to the wifi automatically and Mac compiuter in home connects to this wifi and this iphone did connect automaticcally until a few weeks ago.  Does not request password when try to connect to own wifi..just says "cant access.". Also cant access the Apple apps store to purchase apps but all other function operate normally. Apple store tech says nothing wrong with phone. It connected to their wifi and coud access apps store from their wifi.     This iphone belongs to son who is autistic.  I am mother trying to resolve this issue and very frustrated.  Have reset router but no change.

Based on the symptoms, your phone is fine, and the Router is the problem.   Try http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398.  Specifically the "forget this network" step.  I would also consider resetting the wifi network password.  Sometimes that will allow a connection.

  • New to VPN: iMac, iPhone, iPad connectivity

I am new to VPN. I have used iTeleport and tried LogMeIn Ignition. But I want to know how to do it myself. I look at my VPN settings on my iPhone or iPad and I don't know what any of it means. Ultimately I want to at least be able to use my home sharing in iTunes while away. I also want to learn how to tap in to the full power of VPN.

...Ultimately I want to at least be able to use my home sharing in iTunes while away.
If this is really your ultimate goal, then perhaps use something like [Streamtome|http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/streamtome/id325327899?mt=8]. You run a small app on the computer that has your iTunes library. Additionally, Streamtome can adjust video playback for slower connections. And unlike iTunes Home Sharing, you can also view your home iPhoto library on your iPhone. I use Streamtome on my iPad to view my Windows Media Center DVR recording (something not possible with iTunes Home Sharing.)
...I also want to learn how to tap in to the full power of VPN.
If you still want to learn about VPNs, then I recommend you learn about networking in general. You said that you didn't know what any of the settings mean. With more networking knowledge, you can make better guesses with the settings, and learn by trial-and-error. I am mostly self taught with VPNs, with a LOT of trial-and-error. I was fortunate enough to have worked at places where I could "play" with building test networks. So along the way, I learned how to build VPNs. But I don't think I could have learned about VPNs without being comfortable with networking. (Or at least it would have been a much steeper learning curve.)
With my VPN, I can access everything on my home computers, but I often have to do that by specifying the machine's IP address. (e.g.: Finder, Go menu, Connect to server, afp://192.168.1.5/Macintosh HD, instead of "Browse".) I'd need to setup my DNS correctly to avoid having to specify by IP address, but just haven't bothered to make the time to set it up the way I want. I can easily imagine that someone that wasn't comfortable with networking would call this "broken", while I consider it "useful" but far from perfect.
While I do have the "full power of VPN", having VPN access is just the beginning. You quickly learn that without gigabit LAN speeds (or even 802.11n speeds), often your remote access experience is not as satisfying. As in my example above, if I were to try to view a movie or video podcast in iTunes through Home Sharing over a VPN, it would probably be pausing/stuttering unacceptably on a 3G connection. Even a Wi-Fi hotspot still has to deal with the upload speed of your home internet. (Most home internet connection have much slower upload speeds than download speeds.) So something like Streamtome is better because it will automatically lower the bitrate & quality for slower connections.
So learning VPNs for the sake of learning is not bad. (In fact, it's usually a good thing.) But as I interpret your goal, having a VPN is just a part of the overall experience for you.

  • Iphone, ipad connect to itunes over wifi

itunes version 11.4. Macbook Pro OS 10.9.5. iOS version 8.0.2. All the latest versions available. Ever since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 neither of my iPhones 5, or iPad mini, is discovered by itunes wirelesly over wifi. Works with wire, but not over wifi. Is this a problem or a bug with the new software? Does anybody have any suggestion here? I turned wifi off, and then back on. relaunched itunes a few times, the sync over wifi is checked as always. Since it is hapening on two different laptops, and all three of my iOS devices, this is not a coincidence but a real issue. Thanks. Chris.

Same problem for me.  I have tried everything recommended in the other threads on this subject, but nothing is a permanent fix.  I believe that the issue is with the iOS update.  It is very frustrating.

  • After rebuild of iphoto- photos will not sync (iphone + ipad)

While syncing the iphone (5s),  iphoto (v9.4.3) opened and a pop-up prompted me that I needed to rebuild my library. Clicked to do so, and after the rebuild finished, I went to sync in itunes and noticed my photo settings had changed.  The "Selected albums, Events,..." is grayed out.  I unselected "Sync Photos from iphoto" synced to erase what had been selected from the iphone.  With "sync photos" unchecked it syncs normally.  When checked (the only option: All photos,..) I get an error code "The iPhone "--" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140)."  Tryed syncing my iPad (3 gen) with the same result.
I have both my iphoto and itunes libary on an external HD through my older iMac (running OSX 10.7.5).  Have tried: rebooting everything/ running a Disk Utilities repair disk permissions/ an iphoto permissions repair/ deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder/ Opening the AlbumData.xml seeking out all "&" and changing them (via another thread)... all without any success. I am able to access pictures through other applications (imovie/ pages) and iphoto still recognizes and asked to import photos with iphone/ipad connected.  I have an time machine back up, but haven't restored anything from that.  Any ideas how to regain the option to select albums, events, etc... would be very appreciated.

    Hello Jezky123,
It sounds like you are unable to sync photos now from from iPhoto through iTunes to an iOS device. You did some great troubleshooting already. Next I would try deleting the iPod photo cache and then try again:
iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
    iPhoto or Aperture
If you're syncing from an iPhoto or Aperture library, use these steps to find the iPod Photo Cache folder in the default iPhoto Library or Aperture Library location:
From the Finder, choose Go > Home. If you moved your iPhoto Library or Aperture Library to a different location, go to that location instead.
Open the Pictures folder and locate the iPhoto Library file. (For Aperture, this is called Aperture Library.)
Control-click iPhoto Library or Aperture Library and choose Show Package Contents.
In the next window, drag the iPod Photo Cache folder to the Trash.
Important: Don't remove or modify any other file within the library package. Removing or modifying other files may cause data loss.
    Close the Finder window.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ITunes Diagnostic Doesn't Find Audio CD or iPhone/iPad - Help!

    I
I’m having issues with iTune to recognize my iPhone and iPad.  My iPod nano (G5) is recognized.  I’ve run diagnostics with two failures (No Audio CD Found, and No iPod, iPhone, iPad connected).  A month ago everything was working.  What happened?  I’ve spend many hours following the instructions that’s on the web without success.  BTW – the music list that’s on my ‘test’ CD is displayed in iTunes and can be played.  It’s very strange that the diagnostic shows a CD/DVD issue.  I don’t have a virtual drive.  'Importing the CD' works cleanly - no problems.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Apple TV and iPhones/iPads no longer connecting

    Good morning,
Probably going to pretty lengthly here but we have been having some major issues here.
Since September we have been having issues with our iPhones, iPads, along with our apple tvs not connecting and syncing up.
At the time we blamed it on AT&T selling out to Frontier in our area but now we are in February and still having issues.
We have a wireless network in the house that we had for 5 years prior to Frontier taking over, when issues began to arise of air play not working, not being able to use home sharing as it could not locate our iMac, or loading times always timing out, we contacted Frontier many times they even sent a tech out but everything proved fine.
At the time everything in our house was wireless and we would loose connection to the internet when surfing or doing homework on any device we were using.  I ended up hard wiring my desktop and Mac Mini and have not had any issues since.
We figured since the router we were using was about 6 to 7 years old we would up grade to a new one and maybe that would get rid of the problem.  So I purchased the Linksys AC1900.  set it up the same way as the old one an off we went.   Everything worked fine for a day or two and then right back to nothing working.
Again called frontier and techs came out and we checked everything and nothing was interfering or not functioning properly.  I have even ended up hard wiring a few of the apple tvs, but again same time out issues or no connectivity.
Everything is running on the latest software.
We are now at the point of thinking it is apple that is our issue, We do not have any windows computers or devices to test this theory on but a lot of news going around stating apple is having many issues with wifi and connectivity issues.
I did not want to contact apple just yet as I have spent enough time on the phone with people trying to figure this issue out.
If anyone is able to give me a hand it would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds likeyou are unable to either use Home Sharing between your devices or Airplay. If the former, I would recommend you use this article to help you troubleshoot the issue:
