IPhone & iPad sync with new library

Okay, so I just received a brand new MacBook Pro. Sweet. I hooked my phone up to sync it. I got a message saying your phone is synced with another library, can't be synced with more than one library, etc. So I emailed iTunes, explained my situation, they said you can manually sync it from the iphone page in iTunes. I clicked the little check box, but the same message come up. I emailed them back, they said it was weird, and try apple discussions. So here is the problem. I have all my music on my new MacBook Pro, but my apps never transferred over from my old computer to my new one. If I delete all the content on my iPhone, then I lose all my apps. Same thing goes for my iPad. What can I do?

You don't have to move everything from the old computer, just the files inside the iTunes folder (iTunes Library or iTunes Music Library and the .xml version, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Music, Mobile Applications, ipod Games, etc...)
If you didn't use Migration Assistant to move your data from the old computer to the new one, you may have to right click on each of the files and folder and choose "Get Info" and change the permissions to "Everyone" can "Read and Write" before you copy them to the new computer.
If 100% of your music and movie files and apps are already on the iPod, and you can't copy everything from the old Mac to new one, then you could try this:
(1) In the new Mac make sure you are logged into the iTunes store and the computer is "Authorized" under the menu "Store > Authorize This Computer"
(2) Use "File > Transfer Purchases from iPod" to get you purchased content,
(3) You may need to find a free app online called "Senuti" to transfer non-purchased music like rips from CD's, but I don't know if this will import non-purchased movies. (Senuti is iTunes spelled backwards)
(4) Then use "File > Library > Import Playlists and only import just the old "iTunes Library.xml file from the old computer into the new one. (if you want all your old playlists)
In my case I would need a 900Gb - 1Tb iPod to fit my entire library on one device, but it sounds like your library was small.

  • Iphone sync with new library

I orginally synced and starting using my iphone4 with one laptop. Now I want to change and always sync and manage my iphone from a new laptop. Right now I want to update the iOS, but before I can do that, I need to get all my apps from the iphone to my new laptop itunes library. How? When I try to sync with new library which has no apps, I get a message that my iphone apps will be lost.
    How can I move forward??
    thx.

All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer for this and several other reasons. All apps on your iPhone would be in your iTunes library if Sync Apps had been selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. With this selected, after downloading an app direct with your iPhone the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. This also provides for downloading an app with iTunes on your computer and installing the app on your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, and for removing an app from your iPhone without deleting the app by deselecting the app under the Apps tab followed by a sync. To reinstall the app again later, reselect the app under the Apps tab followed by a sync. This also provides for transferring your entire iTunes library from one computer to another per the link provided.
First you need to authorize your new laptop with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
After confirming all 3rd party apps on your iPhone were transferred to your iTunes library, select Sync Apps under the Apps tab and make sure all apps below are selected. Select Apply.

  • "The iPhone is Synced with another library. Do you want to erase..."

My itunes library has a lot of music from my iPad. I want to move that music to my iPhone by managing my music "manually", but it says ""The iPhone is Synced with another library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
I read that I have to back it up, then go ahead and erase the phone, then you can add the music from the library to your phone. Is this true? Will it work?
I have backed up the phone to iCloud, but I'm worried still. How can I be SURE that I'll get everything back when I restore the phone after erasing it?
    Thanks!

I'm afraid the LU suffix is a new one on me.
As long as you have all of the content in your library then that remove and sync warning shouldn't cause any loss of data, but it shouldn't be happening every time. It may pay to take the following steps to reset the connection between the two,
    Backup device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.
Again, this assumes all content on the device is in your library. If that isn't the case see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first.

iPhone is designed to sync with one computer only, if you sync with another, all your content will be erased and replaced by whatever is on that computer.

  • ITunes claiming iPad synced with another library

I have an iPad synced with an HP Windows 7 machine.  I recently bought a movie with a digital copy.  I installed the movie, connected my iPad, went to iTunes, selected the iPad, selected the Movies tab and clicked the Sync Movies button.  I got a box "Are you sure you want to sync movies? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPad will be removed and replaced with movies from you iTunes library." (I don't know why my songs will be replaced with movies from my library but I'll go with it).  I clicked the Sync Movies button.  The box went away and I clicked on the movie I just downloaded and clicked Apply.  Now I get a box stating "The iPad is synced with another iTunes library.  Do you want to erase this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?  ... Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPad with the contents of this iTunes library."  This iPad is only synced with this computer and has been for months. If I click Erase and Sync am I going to lose all of my data?  If iTunes erases an app off my iPad and reinstalls it again, what will happen to the data that app stores on my iPad?

Gawd sometimes I really hate Apple. I downloaded OS5, which cleaned out my entire iPad. But when I try to sync I get the same message, that the iPad is synced with another library. The new library it wants to sync to is empty, but it won't let me go to my old library. So I managed to reinstall some of my purchases from the iStore, but a whole load of music, videos and apps still can't be found. Annoying? Very much so.

  • Syncing with new library?

    Hello.
To improve the performance of my computer, I recently reinstalled my Windows 7. I had backed up all my iTunes data to an external hard drive, so they were easy to recover from there. However, now when I want to sync my iPad with iTunes, it says that the iPad is synced with some different library and it can only be synced with one library. I only get an option to erase all the data from the iPad first and then put all the data from my library back there. The data is exactly the same, but I'm worried that I will lose the settings and saves I have made in my apps in iPad. Is this going to happen if I will sync the apps? Or will my settings and saves still be there after the syncing?
    Thanks for the answers.

Thanks for the tip. However, the document does not contain the answer to my question. That document says that the music library is completely deleted and then new library is uploaded from the computer. I guess that the same will happen to movies and TV-shows. The questions is, if this will happen to apps also in a way that all the settings and saves will be lost. I would not want to try this without knowing what will happen, because losing all my saves would be annoying, even though there is nothing really important.

  • IPad syncing with new installation

I've had my iPad synced with my Mac Pro running Leopard since I've had it.
For one reason or another I've never got around to updating to Snow Leopard despite having a disc partly as I had some incompatible apps, partly as the Leopard system has been pretty stable.
The other day I decided it was time to change to Snow Leopard but removed the Leopard boot drive rather than upgrading, and stuck in a new drive and did a 'fresh' install on that from the DVD.
Gradually recreating an iTunes library on the new drive by adding media files.
Clearly this iTunes instance has never seen the iPad before, but my question is will I be able to connect and backup current iPad installation to this effectively new computer or should I swap the Leopard drive back in to do this?
Also if I run into problems will I still be able to restore an older backup from the Leopard drive?
BTW I generally manually add media files to the iPad, and assume they might disappear if I sync with a new iTunes instance even if I disable automatic syncing in iTunes?
    Thanks in advance?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
My older itunes folder/library was in a bit of a mess so I wanted to start with a clean slate and repopulate from scratch, weeding out rubbish. I have media spread out on loads of smaller drives some of which does not have correct metadata as I haven't added it, so taking the opportunity to spring clean/tidy up.

  • Itunes says ipad sync with other library but i downladed everything directly from the ipad.

hello,  I downloaded all apps directly throught the ipad as I wasn't sure how itunes worked (i tried but couldn't). Now I'm trying to sync it and it say it is allready sync with another library and that I will loose all apps. I have all passwords but don't really now where to use them. And I dont really wat to pay all the apps again. What can I do?
    Thanks

Is your computer authorized with your iTunes account with iTunes?
If so, with your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad.
Now you should be able to select Sync Apps under the Apps tab making sure all apps below are selected before syncing.
You can re-download purchased apps without having to purchase the apps again.

  • I recently moved some of my older tv series purchases to an external hard drive as my iTunes library hard drive was getting full.  Now, when I connect my iPhone and iPad to iTunes, I get the message that my iphone is synced with another library! Help!

I didn't rename my iTunes library or anything.  How can I sync with iTunes without erasing all my apps, app data and settings/messages etc on the iPhone/iPad?

If you moved your iTunes library by simply copying it to another drive, you may not be able to access your music even if you reconnect to that library, you may get a lot of "not found" errors because the music is not where the library thinks it should be. First thing to do is put it back where it was.  Then reconnect it. Then follow the steps in this link:

  • Ensuring iPhone will sync with new Macbook Pro without migrating all settings

    Hi,
I recently bought a new macbook pro. I don't want to use the migrate assistant to copy all settings and user profiles, because my old macbook has some problems and I want to ensure they aren't transferred over.
However, I need to be sure that my iPhone 4 will sync properly with my new macbook pro and all my purchased apps will be carried over.
Can someone tell me what specifically I need to migrate to ensure this works properly?
    Thank you!

  • ITunes wants to erase my 3GS to sync with "new" library (which is not new!)

I have a 3GS, have always used it with ONE iTunes library, on the same computer. My husband recently added a new hard drive to my computer (ThinkPad laptop running Windows Vista) and I moved my iTunes library to the new drive. Now when I plug in my iPhone and try to sync my music, it says I've connected to a new library and would I like to erase the phone and sync with this new library. I have been burned in the past with iPhone problems (updated to iOS 5 last year and lost a ton of un-backed-up pictures of my newborn. So yeah...a little gun shy with this stuff), I have iTunes set to not auto sync when I plug in my phone. I am able to back up my phone, but if I want to add music, it appears I'm going to have to erase everything and start over? I guess that's my question. Do I have to just re-do the whole thing?

It is now a new library. You can't just "move" your library.... (it is possible, but it's a little more complicated than just moving it).

  • Iphone is synced with another library

My computer broke so I had the hard drive replaced. How do I sync my iPhone with my new hard drive without wiping my iphone?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
The only way you can do is to get a third part software to extract those music from your device over to your PC.
A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Backing up old iPhone and syncing with new iPhone 5 on a different account.

I recently purchased a new iPhone 5 on a straight talk account. I had an iPhone 4 on Verizon prior to now. My daughter and I have been sharing an iTunes account but this has caused us several problems receiving each other's texts and pictures and misc info. I signed up with a new iTunes account in an effort to avoid any future problems but I think I have created new problems. I have been trying to back up my old iPhone to the iTunes account and then sync it with the new phone. I was able to get my apps and music to appear on the new phone but my contacts and pictures didn't sync. I went into the iTunes program and marked the different things I wanted to sync. Still didn't work. Every time I run a sync with the new phone it acts like its a brand new phone and starts back at the programming stage with language and country option and then tells me to plug it into iTunes. Then the same process is repeated with the same result. Help. I just want to get my info off my old phone to my new phone and have a separate account from her. Also, I have an iMac and iPad. Please advise!

    Please help somebody!!

  • Need iPhone to sync with new computer...

My old iBook G4 has passed away and I need to sync up my iPhone with another older G4 iBook. I've attached the iPhone, however since the phone is "married" to another computer my option is to wipe the iPhone and start over. I'm wondering...is there a way around having to erase my current data on the iPhone and set up the iBook to, from this point on be the computer with which the phone is synced with? I was unable to obtain any information from the deceased iBook....i.e. any prefs, account info etc...
Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

An iPhone is only "married" to a single computer in regards to iTunes content and photos transferred to your iPhone. An iPhone can be synced with a single iTunes library only.
If you don't have a backup of your iTunes library and photos transferred to your iPhone from your previous computer, you have a problem.
iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes Store only.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If the Address Book is empty on this Mac, before syncing contact info enter one contact in the Address Book. Make one up if needed which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info which you want to select. The same applies to iCal and syncing calendar events before syncing calendar events.
