IPhone & iPhoto conspired against me: Deleted photos

Hey All,
I have Mountain Lion (**** noise) and wanted to free up some space on my iphone so I selected some photos and imported them to iphoto. In a DUMB move I opted to "delete photos on your iphone?" Now it said that he photos I imported are not in recognizable formats. Moreover, I don't see them in my iphoto anymore. I did not backup to the icloud or itunes backup recently.
Is there any way to get these photos back? Did they simply trash to nothingness or is there any way to find them on the iphone? HELP!!!!
Ps. I tried "Wondershare Dr. Fone" backup program, but that didn't find any of the trashed photos.
I have an iphone 4s.

fyi the F word that pertains to passing gas was sensored? lol I swear I didn't curse

We'll need to know more to beable to help. Do you want to try to restore your photos from your iPhone to your Mac, or try to recover the photos from the old iPhoto Library on your Mac?
What is the situation of your Mac now? In hat way did it crash? A hardware problem with the drive? Does the system not start properly? Does iPhoto not launch? Do you still have the iPhoto Library on your mac or a backup, so we could try to rescue the photos there?
What versions of iPhoto are on your iPhone and your Mac?
however the iPhone iPhoto app still has these photos so how can i access the package contents to recover these photos?
On the iPhone you cannot access the "package contents" - IOS hides the file system from the users. To restore photos from your phone share all iPhoto photos to your Camera Roll, that are not already in the Camera Roll,  and then connect the iPhone via USB and import the Camera Roll to iPhoto or Image Capture. Or use any of the other sharing methods described on thos manual page: see:  Ways to share photos http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnk7d8f763e
To retrieve photos from a corruptrd iPhoto Library on your Mac we need to know the version number and more about the "crash" you experienced, the state of your mac, the system, the data. Please post back with more details.

  • My storage is almost full on iphone. How do I delete photos from icloud?

My storage is almost full on iphone. How do I delete photos from icloud?

You can just tap Delete Back Up, you don't need to turn off iCloud.
Deleting the backup only permanently deletes the backup from iCloud.  It doesn't do anything the the data currently on your phone.  You will want to create a new backup as soon as possible after doing this, however, as you won't have one until your do.  You can either intiate this manually to create one immediately by connecting your phone to your charger and to wifi, then going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and tapping Back Up Now at the bottom (this will take some time to complete the first time), or you can just connect it to your charger and wifi before you go to bed and it should back up automatically (and continue to do so once daily).
You don't need to manually connect your phone to your computer to back up to wifi, but it's a good idea to create a second backup using iTunes occasionally in case your iCloud backup ever fails (I do this weekly).  To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  (Your phone will continue to automatically back up to iCloud daily; this is just a second, manual backup, on your computer.)

  • In Iphoto, How can I delete photos on my iphone that have already been imported?

I've just spent over the hour on the phone with my sister (who has a law degree, I have an engineering degree), and we could not figure out how to delete photos from our iphones that have already been imported into Iphoto.  I thought Apple was the company that made things easier???  This is a nightmare.
    The way it should work:
    - Launch iPhoto
    - Stand on iPhone (Under Devices)
    - Select photo to delete (under Already Imported)
    - Right-Click Delete (or Send to Trash, or Something)
Obviously we are not thinking like Apple thinks...does anyone know how to do this, or are these programs as crap as they seem and you have to go back to your iphone and select each photo one at a time (all several thousands of them).
Don't even get me started on how messed up my photo libraries have become now that I have (fully) switch over to Apple.
By the way, I like my Mac for everything else...but its photo capabilities suck.

Thanks, I was hoping for something a little more selective that I could do from my computer, but I think this is helpful.
Maybe the best approach to get this under control is:
    - Import all photos into iphoto
    - Delete all photos per your suggestion
    - Selectivly sync the photos you want put back on your phone
Thanks again, I didn't know this and is a helpful trick!
P.S. I still wouldn't mind finding a way to selectively delete files that are on my iphone from my computer.  (In Windows, you can go to My Computer -> Iphone, open the folder and delete what you want).

  • HT201269 Will my photos from my iPhone stay on my iPhoto when i click delete photos from phone?

I need more memory on my iPhone and want to turn off photo stream but i already have some photos saved on my macbook pro's iphoto and i was hoping that if i turn it off and continue to save my photos on iphoto if it won't delete the photos on iphoto that i have already and just add the ones that it doesn't have? I really have sentimental photos that are filled with memories and am worried that my pictures will be deleted.
Please anyone with any knowledge of this PLEASE HELP!
    Thank you!

Turn photo stream off. Import all your photos to a file on your computer. Now whatever you delete on your phone will still be on your computer.
Just dont sync those folders back to your phone or you will put them all back on your phone. And if you sync empty folders from phone to computer or vice versa you will clean out your phones pictures.
what I recommend is once the pictures are on a file on your computer, copy and paste them all to a usb thumb drive. viola, no lost pics

  • Why does iPhoto keep copies of deleted photos?

I recently purchased Photoshop Elements 10.  When I imported photos from iPhoto (about 15,000 images) into the PSE organizer, it imported a large number of photos that I had deleted from iPhoto, in some cases months ago.  When I searched in the iPhoto library, sure enough, there were saved masters of all the photos I had thought gone forever.
I understand perfectly well why iPhoto keeps masters of all the photos in the library, so that edits can be reverted etc.  That's not my question.  I want to know why it keeps masters of photos I deleted?  I deleted those pictures for a reason, and I wasn't happy when Photoshop imported all the old blurry shots, headless subjects and duplicates that I thought were long gone.
Is there any safe way to make iPhoto delete photos for real, as in no longer stored anywhere on the hard drive?  Would rebuilding the library do that?
Yes, I emptied the iPhoto trash bin.
No, I've never altered anything in the iPhoto library using Finder, and am very reluctant to allow any third-party software to do so.  Heard too many horror stories.
I'm currently using iPhoto '11, version 9.2.1, if it matters, but some of these deleted photos have been carried along through at least one major iPhoto update.
    Any help would be appreciated.

iPhoto 11 requires that you empty the iPhoto trash and the System Trash as well.
Other than that, this would be a symptom of a damaged database. Assuming this to be the case:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphone won't let me delete photos!!!  HELP!

I tried to back up my photos to the computer using iPhoto (seemingly successful) -- after it gives me the option of deleting the photos on my device, but when I ask it to do so, it doesn't and the photos are taking up over half my memory.
    Any advice???
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Are the photos in another album instead of the camera roll? You should be able to delete any photo in the camera roll. You cannot delete photos in other albums that you sync with itunes. You have to connect it to itunes and turn those albums off and resync the phone. That is the only way to delete those photos.

  • IPhoto crashed during transfer, deleted photos from my iPhone and I can't find them anywhere. :( ^

I was transfering over 4k photos and videos from my iPhone to my iPhoto.
It said it was done and asked my if I wanted to deleted the files. I deleted, once I needed space on my iPhone. The thing is, it took a lot of time deleting untill the crash message appeared.
iPhoto deleted over 2k photos from my phone, I open the iPhoto now and it doesn't show me a single photo.
When I "get info" on the library it says the file has over 10gb, where are these photos? What do I do now ?
I tryed the cmd+option and restoring or whatever, didn't work, and now the "faces" keeps searching for something.
    someone please heeeellp.
    thanks

When you delete any data from your phone that you are syncing with iCloud, it deletes it from iCloud.  When you deleted the contacts from your phone, they were deleted from your iCloud account.
Did you back up your phone while you still had that contacts on it, or do you have your contacts backed up anywhere else?

  • IPhoto '09 trouble with deleting photos

I have a large amount of photos on iphoto. (13,000+) I am attempting to take them off.To make sure I have backups I first put them onto an external drive and also burn CD or DVDs. For some of my photos this has been successful. For a majority of them when I have backed up my photos satisfactorily I DELETE THEM by sending them to iphoto trash. I then empty the trash. The photos are gone. The number of photos in my iphoto drop. (My goal). When I close iphoto and come back a while later the photos I have deleted reappear and then number is high again. This has happened to several groups of photos. iPhoto won't delete them either in the iphoto trash or the regular trash. I have tried putting only 100 photos at a time in the trash. This didn't make any difference. WHAT SHOULD I DO to get rid of these photos so I can make more space iphoto? Why would they show up back in the library when they were deleted in the iphoto trash?????

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Because your database has been damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto "09 Won't Delete Photos

I'm using iPhoto '09 and backing everything to Time Machine and to DVD discs. I'm trying to clear some space on my computer's hard drive by deleting old, backed up, photos.
I moved them to the iPhoto trash and emptied it. But the "ghosts" of past events are still there and the Library still reads at a little over 9GB.
When I say "ghosts" I mean that the events are still there but appear empty until I scroll then the images are visible while scrolling but not at any other time.
I tried dragging them to the trash again and emptying it again but that makes iPhoto unresponsive.
Why are the images still there and how do I delete them?

The images you see are simply cached data.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • IPhone will not backup or delete Photo stream

So, this all started because I was trying to update my phone with to the iOS 7.1.2 but I wanted backup my phone to iTunes first. It would give me an error that it could not backup because of some unknown error. I thought maybe it was my pictures. I had over 5,000 pics from over the years. So I copied all of the pics to my computer then deleted them off my phone. Then I noticed that my photo stream still had pictures. I turned photo stream off in my settings and it asked me if I wanted to deleted all. I clicked delete. The pictures are still in My Photo Stream album on my phone and now I cant even access the album to manually delete them. It force closes every time I click on the Photo Stream album. All I really want to do is back up my phone. I have the iPhone 5S 32GB. It will not backup to the cloud either. I have tried to reset the lockdown folder, deleted all previous backups on my computer, deleted all photo stream pics on my computer and other devices.  Let me know if there are any solutions other than restoring my phone to factory settings.

I have deleted all photo stream photos on my computer and other devices.
You only need to delete them in one place because they are only in one place.
The Photo Stream cache on your iPhone has not been cleared.
    Quit the Photos app.
Double tap Home then swipe up on all icons (to close them all).
    Then reset the iPhone.
Press & hold both Home & Power until you see the Apple logo (about 10 seconds).
Now go back to Settings > Photos and see if you can turn Photo Stream On then Off.

  • IPhoto restoring ALL my deleted photos [ever] after library re-build

Hi. After the last iPhoto update I had to re-build the library. As a result, all the pictures I deleted from iPhoto [ever], are back. I am positive that I have deleted the iPhoto trash as well as the System trash regularly.
Is this normal? does iPhoto keep a copy of these deleted files somewhere deep inside even after emptying both the iPhoto trash AND the System trash?

No it's not normal, and no iPhoto does not keep a copy of the images after trashing them.
My guess is that the corruption in your Library is long-standing and these deletions have failed because of that.

  • Since upgraded to ios 8 my iPhone has become slow and deleted photos appeared automatically in camera roll. How do I overcome these problems? Please help

Kindly help me to solve these problems.

    Hi abhi_lara,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature and scope of the issues you are describing. If you are having issues with generalized slowness and photo behavior after upgrading your iPhone to iOS 8, you may want to first try resetting your device:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If you are still having issues after the reset, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persist before restoring the apps or your data. You may find the following article helpful:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • IPhoto randomly deleting photos, leaving empty events behind.

Hi. My iPhoto will randomly delete photos from entire events, leaving behind only an empty event. What is happening? Are the photos still on my computer somewhere? How do I make is stop?
I have read it could be a corrupt library? Is that possible? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Super! Thanks for the guidline for providing better detail.
    I'm running iPhoto '11 (version 9.4.2)
    -on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    - There doesn't seem to be a trend to what photos are deleted and when. It has started within the past 5-6 months. All I observe is when I open my iPhoto, on occasion there will be an empty event. It never deletes partial events and it never deletes the event itself (that I have noticed) There are absolutley no other problems with iPhoto itself. It speaks to my iPhone and iPad just fine, iCloud syncs the Photo Stream well. I am fairly certain that the only photos deleted came from my iPhone. (I have an iPhone 5)
In addition to deleting photos, it seems that iPhoto is misplacing events. For example, I have an event with only 3 photos in it taken on 12 April. It has been moved to the top of the list of events for no apparent reason.
    - I can't say how long this has been going on. Maybe 5-6 months tops. I did move to Indonesia from America in that time. I can't imagine that would do anything. Before I left, I replaced my hard drive (upgraded to 1TB from 500GB). I restored off of the old hard drive with no problem. I also got more memory installed so I'm running with 8GB instead of 4GB. I have not installed anything or made any other noticeable changes since the problem began. Although replacing a hard drive is no small thing...
    - I have tried to reveal the photos in Finder to see if the original files are still in the source library. They are not. The organization now skips a number where my photos ought to be. Other than that I'm not sure how to fix it. I don't really have a backup from which I can restore.
    - There is nothing unusual about the setup, it's a standard Mac OS and I only use iPhoto with my iPhone and iPad.
I hope that helps give some information?

  • Trying (and failing) to delete photos in iPhoto '09

I am trying to delete some photos in iPhoto. I have used the option to move the photos to trash (the trash in iPhoto) - then used the option to empty the iPhoto trash. The pictures are successfully removed from the library and the trash box. However, when I have done this iPhoto will not let me quit and if I force quit, the next time iPhoto is launched the deleted photos are still there.
    Any suggestions please?

backup and rebuild your library - depress the option and command keys and rebuild from the last automatic database backup- if that does not do it use the remaining options - if that does not do it use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -
