IPhone/iPod display question

Hi all,
I have an iPhone 3GS. When I browse or play my songs, the song titles always show up in the format "Artist - Song Title". This makes it difficult (or impossible) to read the song titles in some views. I believe there's a way around this problem, since the screen shots at http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/ipod.html show the artist, song, and album on three separate lines as they should be. The artist and album display correctly on my device, it's just that the song titles have the artist name prepended.
Is this a setting I can change? Or does it have to do with my mp3 tags? They're all tagged correctly as far as I can tell.

Excellent! That solved the problem, in a weird way. I'm new to iTunes; I have a large library of songs that were all ripped with other software. When iTunes cataloged my library, they all appeared with this odd naming convention. I tried your "Get Info" trick on a few songs; the tags were correct so I didn't change anything, but I noticed when I went back to the main screen those songs were now displaying correctly. I tried a few more and got the same result. So then I highlighted all the songs, did "Get Info" for all at once, and now they're displaying with only the song titles. Weird! I also noticed that none of the .mp3 file timestamps were updated after this operation, so whatever changed was within iTunes itself. I resynched my phone and everything's good now. Thanks for the advice. I finally tried a solution after doing nothing. LoL. What I did do was change the channel the router was on from 9 to 7. I think I've done something like this in the past when I had slow internet and that worked out well too. I thought that would help and so far so good. Not an interruption so far but we shall see. To the guy or girl who expressed that they had the same problem as me I would try changing the channel of your router like I did. I will monitor the situation and see if it totally solved my problem or not and keep this thread updated. Thanks people

Question about iPhone/iPod and playing songs

Hi all,
This is my first question here, so please be patient with me if I'm rambling, or this is posted in the wrong forum.
I've recently downloaded a language learning course and want to put it on my iPhone so I can learn Italian as I'm on the bus. While it's great having this course at my fingertips, I want to keep these particular audio files from playing when I'm listening to music on the iPod.
So my question(s) is this..is it possible to somehow ADD files to the iPhone (iPod) while excluding them from the general iPod playlist? I don't want to have to skip over these files each time I'm listening to music, but I still want to keep the files on the iPhone(iPod). If it is possible, how would I go about it?

There's a work around by using playlists in computer's iTunes.
In iTunes, create one playlist with all the songs you want on the iPhone.
Create another with your language courses.
Sync with the selected playlists in iTunes when connected to the iPhone.
(With iPhone connected and selected in iTunes, in Music tab select Sync Music, Selected playlists, artists, ... and checked the two playlists mentioned above. Click Sync button.)
Now on iPhone you can choose music or language course playlist without interferences.

I bought a questionable iPhone 3G Display? Fake or original?

Hi there,
I bought a new iPhone 3G display (whole device including touchscreen, etc.) on ebay from a professional seller. The auction was labeled as "original" Appledisplay.
The external appearance is 99.9% identical to my old, definitely genuine display.
As I already switched the displays, I am a bit afraid of opening the iPhone again to compare the back of the displays. When I did that before replacing displays, they look really similar to me as a layperson.
However, now Iam a bit suspicious. The home button does not work so well. And I figured out aquite remarkable difference to my old display: the small "net" in the speaker are considerably coarsely meshed. I don't know if this is just new to newer displays, but I doubt that and it makes me suspicious considering the home button issue.
If someone is so professional in figuring out whether this is a fake based on the speakers, I would be very happy. =)
Otherwise, I could take the display of again to make pictures from the back too.

You bought it off e-bay, so the answer is 'probably not'. Apple is pretty picky about who they sell parts to. It could have been an original that didn't pass inspection from the factory, or one that was recovered by someone from a water damaged phone... It could be a total knockoff... it could be the real thing.
Apparently, it met the most important criteria when you bought it. The price.
If it works, don't worry about it. If it doesn't work great, contact the seller and see if they'll refund your money or replace it. Original or not original doesn't make any difference any more. The only reason original would matter would be if you intended to try to get an out of warranty replacement from Apple, and even that doesn't matter. You've opened the phone, so they won't touch it.
You buy from e-bay, you take your chances.

My Iphone/ Ipod touch 4th gen WiFi problems and solution

Just wanted to let people know the problems that I had with my 4th gen Ipod touch and Iphone 4 WiFi connections (and my solution).
I was having consistent problems with my WiFi connection at home - my devices were connecting fine to the router and apparently the signal was full strength; however, nothing was working properly (internet, itunes, app store). To be specific the devices would work for 5-10 minutes but then the connection would start to falter. My other wireless devices were working fine (HTC Hero, laptops etc.) - just the ipod and iphone seemed to suffer from this signal problem (although the router was always apparently connected).
Obviously, I read countless forums to try and diagnose the problem. There seemed to be a litany of possible causes and I tried the following to resolve the issue:
- updated router (Netgear WGR614 v6) firmware
- rotated wireless encryption (WEP/WAP/nothing)
- changed router channel
- reset router power
- reset network settings on Apple devices
- changed g and b settings on router
Nothing seemed to work so I began to question the hardware i.e. the router (which I knew was working from my other devices) and the iphone/ipod.
I tested my iphone and ipod on other wireless networks (McDonalds in the UK has free WiFi) and found that, in contrast, they worked fine on other networks. I had read a few posts from people saying that my router was perhaps too old. So as a last resort I bought myself a new router (Netgear WNR2000 v2). I was loathe to do this earlier in case it didn't work, since reasonable spec routers are £50
Anyway it worked ... straight away. I have tested the new connection at home using this SpeedTest app. D/load = 9.01 Mbps, U/load = 0.46 Mbps, Ping 65ms. The router is using the full encryption (WAP2 something ...) and N connection.
As you can probably tell I'm no WiFi expert - I just wanted to post this in case people are having similar issues with older routers. I wasn't able to find any definitive advice and solutions from other users so I though I'd contribute here, which I guess is the first port of call for new Apple users, like me
I bought the new router 10 days ago and have been enjoying my full speed connection ever since - touch wood. Hope this helps.

Previously, the iPod function enabled one to see the track that was playing and control playback (such as repeat or shuffle) via the iPhone screen. Now all I see is an "Accessory Connected" message.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Hi guys i have big problem with iPhone 3GS display,so i need your help here,i was changing battery on my device and the when i wanted to put back display i saw that connector 1 is hard to put on on connector on motherboard so i saw that conncetor one don't havetwo pins ,i know that i need new cable or new display can you please tell me can just replacew another ribbon cable because my LCD display is not broken,if you didm't understad this is the problem,so can i do anything or i need to buy new LCD display.

Your question is a little difficult for me to understand. If you think the LCD Display connector on the Ribbon Cable #1 is damaged, the fix is to purchase a new LCD Display. The Ribbon itself is not truly a replaceable part that I know of.
When working on an iPhone 3GS the iPhone must be OFF, or you risk damaging the LCD Display or the Logic Board components that control the LCD Display.
I do not understand how you know “don’t have two pins”? I have never heard of this problem? If you really know that two pins are out, then also examine the #1 connector on the Logic Board to be certain is has not sustained damage too.

One can stream the display of iPad/iPhone/iPod to TV using Airplay/appletv.

I wouldn't get too worried about standby, just set it to sleep in Settings after a certain period.
Mine seems to sleep when I change TV input or power down the TV anyway.
It is actually quite a low power device being about a 6W rating - I appreciate every little helps with energy saving though.
I assume it is the black AppleTv 2 or 3?

The 4G iPod does not support airplay mirroring like the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 (and later) with iOS 5 and later. Thus you iPod will only AipLy for apps that support AirPly.
From the Videos, iPod, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps on iOS devices, stream videos, music, and photos to an Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation), or stream music to an AirPort Express or compatible third-party device.
With iOS 4.3 and later, you can also stream video and audio from a website or a third-party app installed on your iOS device if the developer for the app or website has added AirPlay functionality.

IPod displaying the same artisit more then once in the artist view

When I sync my library to my ipod, my ipod displays copies of the same artist. Right now it is 3 copies and I was wondering a way to fix it.
I have purchased the songs in question from the itunes store. and the artists that are repeated have the same albums and songs listed under them... Im refering to the "artist" sort mode on the ipod
I know this isnt a tech forum per say.. but this is really annoying me and would like to know how to fix it..

Select all the songs in the iTunes library by the same artist (all at the same time). While all are highlighted do a Get Info. Is the Artist field blank? If so that means there is an actual difference between two or more of the selected tracks for that field. Mispellings, added space characters, accent marks on some by not the others, etc. Simple solution is to now type in the artist name (to be applies to all the songs equally), OK out of there and see if the iPod looks right after re-syncing.

IPod display of imported photos

Using an iPod as backup storage for a digital camera in the field is useful but at times scary. iPods will save RAW images, but display only the word RAW instead of the photos. On a recent trip I shot a mix of RAW and superfine JPEGs but the iPod displayed only a question mark on all of them. I was left unsure if my 1100 photos were secure in their backup storage. Happily all images downloaded correctly. I then did a reset of the iPod to factory defaults and tested it by importing both JPEGs and RAW images. Separately, the iPod displayed the JPEG images, and the RAW photos as "RAW". But if both JPEGs and RAW were on the same camera card, the iPod would not display any images at all, only "?". Apple's information on the camera connector says this indicates an unrecognised file type, but it seems clear that the iPod software cannot cope with mixing file types either. This is a further serious limitation to the use of iPod with camera connector.

Still images are computer generated , thus meaning they are created for print or displaying on a computer monitor. in short the pixels are not of the same shape. in DV video the pixels are rectangle and, your stills are square. a simple quick fix would be to open the stills with your photo editor and, give them just a little gaussian blur. you may also consider resizing the hight of your still. in your photo editor select resize > percent and, change the hight to 90%. be sure constrain is unchecked.
The still will look a little squashed but, will look correct when imported into FCE

I’m having the same issue.
My phone indeed has no SIM card. I kept the 3GS after upgrading to an iPhone 4 and I was simply using it as an iPod Touch.
As far as I had been told, I was perfectly OK to do that and it had been going fro update to update without any issue up to now.
The problem is that iOS 5 requires a new activation, and that this model cannot be activated with a valid SIM. Obivously, I’m not going to take a new line with AT&T ad pay $xxx every month just to be able to activate my previous phone.
I contacted AT&T but they had no clue how to get out of the problem and said it was in Apple’s hands anyway.
I tried restoring 4.3.5 on the phone, but so far I haven’t been successful :-\
I’m open to any suggestion
