IPhone iPod Random Behavior

Hi, I have the iPhone MB046LL, version 4.1 (8B117). Since upgrading to the latest device software, the iPod seems to do a lot more random things than usual. For no apparent reason it'll start playing really fast, or skip to the next track, or shuffle to a random song. When it's playing really fast, it's impossible to stop. I have to shut down the iPhone and start it up again. Before the recent upgrade, it'd randomly shuffle every once in a while, but it happened infrequently enough to not be too annoying.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I have been having the same problem. It didn't matter if the song was from iTunes or if it was from another source such as CD-Rip.
After doing some research, I found that if you re-encode the music as an AAC using iTunes instead of mp3, it should help solve the problem. I have not had a chance to try this yet. When I get home from work, I will try it out. If it helps, I will post results.
If anyone has any ideas, I am looking for them as well.
Thanks.

  • IPhone iPod randomly shuts off, battery life is 2 hours

I really think there is something wrong with my iPhone because yesterday it was only at 2 hours of use time and 3 hours of standby time since full charge before it dropped to 20. I did use youtube and barely listened to music. Is that pretty normal?
Right now its only at 9 hours of use time and 10 hours of standby and its already drained down to 20%. I only listened to music with only 2 videos of youtube and about a quarter use of web browsing. I find myself having to charge it every night. Which means I cannot sleep with my iPhone while listening to music, or if I do that then it will be dead by the next day.
Then last but not least is at random times during web browsing, I haven't have proof to confirm that it does things outside of web browsing itself, the iPod music I'm listening to just stops. I double click the home button and it only brings me up to favorites.

I have the same iPod stopping during surfing... Your not alone.

My 5S just started doing this on Thursday: every fraction of a second or so it oscillates between connecting and disconnecting with the charger (USB or wall, doesn't matter). Since it's still under the limited warrantee, I took it to the local Mac dealer (I live in a small town w/out an Apple store) and they shipped it off. I'm waiting now for the replacement--telephonless, too!
What concerns me is that many people seem to be having this issue.
You were right to be suspicious of the Apple store employees. Once they replicated the behavior that you experienced, they should have immediatly offered to exchange your phone. Anything else, in my opinion, is unacceptable. As long as your phone is still doing it, I'd go back, ask for the manager and tell them to exchange your phone.

  • My iphone ipod no longer shuffles

my iphone ipod no longer shuffles and i do not even have the "ovals" or the "shuffle" symbols...anybody got any ideas?  i saw the previous responses on tapping album artwork, but that doesn't even apply here because it appeals the symbols r gone.  i do have these dots that turn into STARS across the top that i have never noticed, but where did my shuffle and repeat functions go?  please help.....Thanks

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • G729 VM wav on iPhone/iPod Touch

    Hello,
I've looked around in this community and found a few folks asking about playing VoiceMessage.wav files on their iPhones.  Some can, some can't.  Those that can, it seems, may not be using G729-encoded WAVs.
    But, before everyone pounces:
I've written a G729 (and Annex A, B and AB) decoder using the CCITU reference code as a starting point for the iPhone/iPod Touch.  The reference bitstreams CCITU provide work just fine.  (simply: I can get an e-mail with a G729 WAV attachment and play it on my iPod Touch, via my app; porting this to some other platform wouldn't be much of a hassle - licensing the IP, on the other hand...).
Looking at a VoiceMessage.wav file I received from a friend who has Unity, I see that the wave format tag (RIFF fmt chunk, bytes 9 and 10) come back as 0x0133 - that's defined as, WAVE_FORMAT_SIPROLAB_G729 (sorry, I wasn't shouting - I was copying/pasting).
After stripping away the RIFF header (RIFF, fmt ,fact and DATA chunks), I have what should be G729 data.  It isn't - or, at least, it is in some sort of packed format.
G729 bitstreams have a SYNC_WORD of 0x6B21, then a 50 (dec: 80 - the number of bytes in the frame) delimiting each frame.  Every 164 bytes, this repeats.  That's not the case with the WAV I received.  The person who sent it to me is in a position to know her system uses G729.  The WAV indicates it is G729.  There are no SYNC_WORDs anywhere and the 50s are scattered randomly (they're probably data at this point).
If that's the case, where do I find information about that extra layer of compression?  Could it be the 80-byte packets are there, and that the SYNC_WORDs were left out, to be put back in at read time? (after all, if you know you're going to be processing 80-byte chunks, why bother writing out the SYNC_WORDs?)  hmm...

FWIW: I just (literally - 6 minutes ago) got G729 voice messages to play on my iPod Touch directly out of e-mail.
Not sure if that's worth anything to anyone, but it *can* be done.
I rank the experience like learning long division.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

hi i was using safari one day and my ipod randomly shut off it will now not turn back on i tried hard resting and everything else when i plug the ipod into a charger it gets really hot in the left corner and itunes did not recognize any help will be apreciated thank you

Try placing the iPodin recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • My husband and I have separate iTunes accounts and multiple devices (iPads, iPhones, iPods etc) how do we share our music and apps between our devices if we have different iTunes accounts.

Help! My husband and I have multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod ) that we we have linked to individual iTunes accounts ie he has his account with iPad, iPhone, PC and iPod linked/sync and I have my account with iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, PC etc.. How do we share our music and apps across/between our accounts?

It probably means that only one of you can use iCloud or at least sync calender/contacts with it. I would guess that you could manually manage the other phone as you have before.

  • My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.  Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes some

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

  • Apple Unveils All-New iTunes U App for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch

A colleague just told me about this announcement from Apple -
Apple Unveils All-New iTunes U App for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch -
    http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/01/19Apple-Unveils-All-New-iTunes-U-App-for -iPad-iPhone-iPod-touch.html
Do any fellow iTunes U administrators know anything about this? How is existing content presented in the new app? Would we need to change anything? How do we access / make available the new features?
The new features sound fantastic but it would have been nice to have some warning. I appreciate that Apple has to keep specific details about developments confidential but it's slightly disconcerting that iTunes U administrators were not forewarned about this new development and that there has been no mention of it on this forum. Also - and at the risk of sounding like a broken record - it really would be helpful for iTunes U administrators to have a private forum (perhaps an add-on to Public Site Manager) where we could discuss issues and share ideas and best practice etc.

    Greetings Tom;
I watched the Apple's Keynote presentation and I'm amazed!  I'm really excited about the possibilities this opens up for educators.  I, like you am still processing all of the information and sorting out the possibilities.
Did you get the email about the Webcast on Wednesday the 25th at 10:00 AM PT that's going to cover the new iTunes U Corse Manager and how to publish through iTunes U Site Manager?  Hopefully this is available to you in the UK.  We'll keep in touch.  All the best...

    HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!

    BOB we need you urgently
Perhaps Bob will see this thread, he is the professor in these cases.
You do not use a WEP password but wpa/wpa2 on router and equipment.
All equipment connects to WiFi, but for your iPad.
Even with all other equipment WiFi off, you cannot connect your iPad.
Your iPad connects to other WiFi nets correctly.
All resets etc done on iPad and Router.
Still I am not sure it is your router for sure, frustrating...
I want to test 2 other things:
    1. in your iPad, set everything OFF in Settings/Cellular, turn off/then/on your WiFi, and see whether it will still not connect...
    2. If that does not do it: disconnect the router as well as the modem from the power, for 15 seconds, then reconnect the modem, let it fully start, then reconnect the routet let it fully start, turn of your WiFi in iPad, then on, and see whether it will connect.

  • My Iphone/ Ipod touch 4th gen WiFi problems and solution

Just wanted to let people know the problems that I had with my 4th gen Ipod touch and Iphone 4 WiFi connections (and my solution).
I was having consistent problems with my WiFi connection at home - my devices were connecting fine to the router and apparently the signal was full strength; however, nothing was working properly (internet, itunes, app store). To be specific the devices would work for 5-10 minutes but then the connection would start to falter. My other wireless devices were working fine (HTC Hero, laptops etc.) - just the ipod and iphone seemed to suffer from this signal problem (although the router was always apparently connected).
Obviously, I read countless forums to try and diagnose the problem. There seemed to be a litany of possible causes and I tried the following to resolve the issue:
    - updated router (Netgear WGR614 v6) firmware
    - rotated wireless encryption (WEP/WAP/nothing)
    - changed router channel
    - reset router power
    - reset network settings on Apple devices
    - changed g and b settings on router
Nothing seemed to work so I began to question the hardware i.e. the router (which I knew was working from my other devices) and the iphone/ipod.
I tested my iphone and ipod on other wireless networks (McDonalds in the UK has free WiFi) and found that, in contrast, they worked fine on other networks. I had read a few posts from people saying that my router was perhaps too old. So as a last resort I bought myself a new router (Netgear WNR2000 v2). I was loathe to do this earlier in case it didn't work, since reasonable spec routers are £50
Anyway it worked ... straight away. I have tested the new connection at home using this SpeedTest app. D/load = 9.01 Mbps, U/load = 0.46 Mbps, Ping 65ms. The router is using the full encryption (WAP2 something ...) and N connection.
As you can probably tell I'm no WiFi expert - I just wanted to post this in case people are having similar issues with older routers. I wasn't able to find any definitive advice and solutions from other users so I though I'd contribute here, which I guess is the first port of call for new Apple users, like me
I bought the new router 10 days ago and have been enjoying my full speed connection ever since - touch wood. Hope this helps.

Sounds like an intermittent contact problem some where eon the logic board. Hard to trace down and fix

Having AppleTV remember the password is optional.
Logout of iTunes store, log back in and hopefully next time you come to purchase you'll be prompted for your password but decline the option to remember it.  You might also want to look out of parental controls on the unit.

I would like to have itunes on my mac, but i am afraid I will run out of hard disk space. Do I need to set up a seperate account on my Mac so I can load some music on it if I plan to keep my devices synced to my PC?  Would it be possible to sync only my Iphone to my Mac?

To get that much storage, you need to look to professional online services.  Pro-level hosting accounts may offer you that much (well, many will offer as much storage as you are prepared to pay for), or Amazon professional cloud services.  You could also store the files on a home machine and pay for a professional hosting service so you could stream them over your own account (assuming your ISP connection and agreement allows for the bandwidth used).  You would still need to deal with the issue of finding an app for the iPad that supported avi streaming.
