IPhone is stuck in "DFU"??

I passed my iPhone 4 to my friend because he "needed 3G network while he was away" and he came back saying that my phone is in dfu mode and that he cannot take it off of it. The iphone is really weird, its a black screen and no touch screen working. Can someone tell mewtfis dfu please?

Close iTunes and unplug iphone
Search web and download the 2.2.1 ipsw file.
Go to device manager on PC and delete the USB option for Apple under the hardware options.
Reboot PC
Plug in iphone and wait for dreaded connection picture
hold power button and home button until apple logo appears
continue to hold home button and release power button until connection picture appears again
Your PC should now find the iphone in recovery mode
Now open iTunes and it will prompt you to restore
Hold the shift button on the keyboard and click the restore button at the same time
This will allow you to browse for the correct ipsw file
select the 2.2.1 file that you downloaded
your iphone will now restore
Once completed, you will need to resync
Now you are back to square one but at least have a phone that works
Now make an appt at the Genius Bar and make them update it for you
Mine is scheduled for next week

    Hi akitestry,
If your iPhone 4 will not start up past the Apple logo, you should troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
    In particular -
    5. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
    6. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

  • IPhone 4 stuck on DFU

Here's what happened. I was charging my phone via USB through my laptop and it suddenly went into white/grey screen with weird screen and so I pressed the HOME + POWER and went into recovery mode (iTUnes + USB logo). I tried to restore it and I keep on getting Error 1600. After a few hours, the screen just went black and whenever I press HOME + POWER button, nothing happens. I went to a repair shop and a guy "shocked" the battery and there it went back to recovery mode. I tried to restore it again on DFU mode and still getting error 1600. If I try it on restore mode, I will get error 21. What I did is I plug in the device, put it on recovery mode and then put it in DFU then restore and still error 1600 ---- googleed and youtubed so,me videos until I saw a video to change the host file and downloaded it and then BOOM --- It was fixed!
While I was fixing my newly repaired iPhone 4 version 5.1 -- all of a sudden it went to restarted then went into recovery mode. After a few hours again, it went to DFU mode and I went to the repair shop to shock the battery but that didn't work until now. I can't get my phone to restore mode even if I press the HOME + POWER button. STUCK on DFU mode.
I have a saved SHSH for 5.0.1 and 5.1 -- so i built a custom firmware with Snowbreeze and iFaith but I keep on getting error 3014, 1600, 1601, 1608 on restoring it. I really don't know what to do from here.
    Can someone please help me?

I have the same problem. An iPhone 4S, 6 months old, stuck in DFU mode, black screen and iTunes can't restore (error 1600). Tried reloading iTunes, tried 3 different computers (Win 7, Vista, OSX) all report the same problem.
This phone has never been jailbroken (don't need that in Oz because my carrier doesn't lock their phones). It still had the original iOS that it came with from Apple.
Like migsiliciousI read lots of post about using jailbreak software to kick the phone out of restore mode without installing a custom OS, but I'm not going to try that as the phone is still under warranty. If there is no simple solution to the 1600 error, then I'm going to have to travel 40km to the nearest Apple Store and see what they can do.

  • Can I still retrieve my data in iPhone 4s stuck in DFU mode?

My iPhone 4s was suddenly ended in DFU loop. I already talked to Apple store and their only solution is to replace another new one for me. However, I still have a lot of information and photo in that phone which I didn't backup, so I hope I can retrieve the data using some softwares. Unforturnately nothing worked so far: Dr.Fone, TinyUmbrella, Recboot, etc. Here comes fundamental question: Can I still retrieve/access data in iPhone 4s that is stuck in DFU mode (with device ID: 0x1227)? If yes, which tool can help me?
    Thanks

  • Iphone 4s Stuck in Dfu Mode and Itunes and tiny umbrella dont regnoize

So a couple of weeks ago i put my Iphone 4s Into Dfu Mode. It was not plugged into the computer when I put it into Dfu Mode. The apple logo appeared and then the screen turned black. I Reinstalled itunes updateded it and tried it on 2 diffrent computers. Nothing is wrong with the sync cable nor the iphone's hardware. For some reason itunes does not regnoize the Iphone. I tried to get it out of Dfu Mode but it didnt work. I can press a combo of buttons but nothing happens. It stays black. Iphone does not have any hardware problems because it was working perfectly fine before i put it in Dfu Mode and the syncing cables work 100% because i can connect my ipod to itunes and itunes rengoizes my ipod. Is there any solutions? +Tiny Umbrella and RedSn0w Does not regnoize it either.

Use TinyUmbtrella or Redsn0w to kick it out of DFU Mode. Then just restore it through iTunes if you want.
    Basic troubleshooting steps

  • IPhone 4S stuck at DFU mode, can't exit, can't restore, can't boot.

    Ok so,
My iPhone 4S wouldn't boot up one day, so I decided to restore it using iTunes. First attempt was unsuccesfull, but I did it the second time. The next day it wouldn't boot up again (probably cause I restored an iTunes backup I made before). So I decided to restore it again, but after 100 attempts (literally) it wouldn't restore. ITunes is stuck on "Waiting for iPhone" screen, and the progress bar on the phone is stuck at 0%, not moving at all! According to tinyumbrella, my iPhone is in DFU mode, but I get a black screen and I can't boot up. I was using iOS 6.1.3 and I WAS NOT JAILBROKEN!
Things I tried but didn't work:
    - Holding home button and power button together in all possible ways.
    - Trying the "Fix recovery" option in tinyumbrella.
    - Holding home button before plugging in the phone to the pc.
    - Redownloading iOS 7 off the internet and trying to restore it via iTunes.
    - Using 3 different computers (1 desktop and 2 laptops).
    - Disabling my anti virus and firewall.
    - Using REC BOOT to enter / exit recovery.
    - Trying to recharge the phone, but it wouldn't do a thing.
    - Restarting my pc.
    - Let my iPhone off for 10 or more hours.
    - Removing SIM card before trying to restore.
    - Redownloading iTunes and updating it.
    - TRYING 100 TIMES THE "Update and restore" OPTION IN ITUNES 11.
I did nothing wrong, it suddenly decided to stop responding and to stop powering up. People get this when they're jaibroken but I wasn't. It's been 2 months more than 45 days of me trying to fix it, but no luck .
    Please HELP!

I actually got it for 2 euros from a prize machine at my local mall . That was like 4-5 months ago but I never experienced any problems with it. You could tell the iphone was original, so it wasn't fake...

  • Error Code 21, iphone 4S stuck in DFU mode and will not restore!

    Hi All,
My brand new Iphone 4S will not switch on unless it is connected to the charger/usb connection to the laptop, before we go any further the battery is fully charged. When you connect the phone to the charger plug you can go through the set up routine until a point is reached when it displays "conect to itunes" however, as soon as you disconect the usb cable from the charger plug to conect it to the laptop it appears to just switch off and then display the apple logo, the screen then goes blank and then the logo again, it carries on doing this indefinately.
I can get the phone into DFU mode and itunes will recognise it, IOS 5.0.1 downloads and it attempts to restore the phone but I then get an "unknown error message (21)" I just cant get past this point, I have also tried the restore procedure on a friends Windows laptop and a MacBook Pro but still no joy.
I have booked an appointment at my nearest Genius Bar (which is miles away) on Thursday but I could well do without having to make this trip, can anyone please advise me if there is something else to try?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, yes I did disable my firewall and antivirus software staight after my first failed restore attempt but it made no difference, like you I also checked out the error code explination.
What I cant understand is why dosent this phone does not work straight out of the box?...its brand new, I have not tried to jailbreak it, (I have recently seen this as a possible cause in another post) I just want the bloody thing to work!
I also forgot to mention in my post that the phone will not respond to any key presses or show any signs of life unless it is conected to a power source and beleive me it has spent most of the last 2 days conected to one due to this, the battery indicator shows it is fully charged.
Any more help is very much appreciated.

  • Iphone 3gs stuck in DFU mode and can't be restored!

I bought my iphone 3gs in the states. And I jailbreak it because I'm not an AT&T customer. One day the phone just put itself into the DFU mode! I didn't do anything. So it's black screen. I tried to restore my iphone but I can't. During the restore process, my phone will be white screen for a while and then turn back to black screen again. And then itunes will show the message that my iphone can't be restored. Then I get the error code, sometimes it's 1618, sometimes it's 28 and it even shows 20000 for a few times. But mostly 28, I couldn't find 1618 and 20000 in apple online manual. I check the manual and it seems like 28 represent there's an hardware issue...

Ohh...... what if I take it to Apple store and ask them to fix my iPhone, will they be able to fix it??
Unlikely, The warrantee for US iPhones is valid in only the US, and not for jailbroken ones anywhere.
If it's just a software problem, any fix would probable involve a restore which would install 4.1, so it would relock to AT&T.
If you know someone in the US, they could try an Apple store there. If it's a hardware problem, they might replace it, but the replacement would be locked to AT&T.

  • Iphone 4S stuck in DFU mode after software update

I tried to update my iPhone 4S but for some reason it failed and went into DFU mode. When I tried to restore the device from iTunes an error code (9) pops up. After several failed attempts I gave up and decided to visit an Apple store. To my disappointment, the restoration failed and because the device was out of warranty (bought in Oct 2011) I was offered a like for like handset for £149. But I declined, I couldn't grasp the fact that my phone stopped working due to a software update and I had to pay for another one. I was also told by the Apple rep that due to the age of some devices, they were not able to handle software updates! That really upset me because if I had known that, I would not have even bothered with updating my phone. Besides, I've had this phone for just under 3 years I didn't think it was that old to not be able to survive a software update.
Apologies for the rant.. but is there anyone who has/had same experience and is there no way to restore the device?

    Try the steps:
How to perform a recovery-mode restore
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is already showing the "Connect to iTunes" screen, please go to step 5.
Connect your USB cable to your computer but not to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until step 3.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button down, connect the USB cable to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen. When this screen appears, you can release the Home button:
Note: If the image of a battery appears, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again. If you don't see the Connect to iTunes screen, try these steps 1 through 4 again.
iTunes should automatically open and display the following message:
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
Note: If iTunes not open after two minutes, please open iTunes yourself.
Use iTunes to restore the device.

  • IPHONE 3G STUCK IN DFU MODE! HELP!

I put my 3g into dfu without it connected to itunes. I cant use it or connect it to itunes to restore.
PLease help. Is ther any way to connect it back to itunes.

FIRST look for AppleMobileDeviceService.exe as I described. If it is running try plugging into a USB port on the BACK of the computer rather than the front. Also unplug any other USB devices except for keyboard and mouse.
How did it get into DFU mode? Was it spontaneous, or did you do it intentionally?
If AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is NOT listed in the Task Manager go to the Control Panel and open Administrative Tools, then Services. Find Apple Mobile Device and double click it. It should not be running (because you did not see it in the task list). Click the Start button. Wait for it to start and try connecting the iPhone again. If it isn't in the Services screen you must completely uninstall iTunes, then reinstall it from a freshly downloaded copy from http://www.apple.com/itunes. The uninstall instructions are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US

  • My iPhone is stuck in DFU mode but it will not restore please help me!

What happened to my phone was I was having screen issues so i replaced it and it worked normally for about 5 minutes and then the screen went black. After the screen went black, it came back on with the "connect to itunes screen". Since then i've tried to restore it and no good has cone fron trying. Sometimes itunes will tell me that it can't be restored because of the build of the phone or itunes will give me a different error code. Itunes also will make it as far as the restore screen where itunes is saying waiting for iphone and the iphone screen is on with the white loading line under the apple but the line will not move no matter how long you give it time to load. I've tried pretty much all the techniques to reslove my issue. I've even used tiny umbrella, and redsnow to try and kick it out of recovery mode but that does is make the apple logo pop up and fade out until the screen is black and then pop up again. Can someone please help me?

  • IPhone 4s stuck in DFU / Recovery

I have an iPhone 4s that stopped receiving signal (from O2) despite numerous reboots. The SIM (and provider) works in another 'phone.
Therefore I decided to backup and restore the iPhone in case it was a software bug. However upon restore, it gets 3/4 of the way through and then iTunes reports that an unexpected error has occurred (-1) and the iPhone reboots back into recovery mode.
Trying to restore to the new 6.1.3 and I have attempted to flash with a separate download of the .ipsw and also tried it on a different PC, both running iTunes 11.0.2.26.
There is no antivirus or firewall active.
I guess there could be an underlying hardware fault and not just software as I suspected? Any ideas what it might be?

    Hey jestinsinclairr,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you had one issue and then got a second trying to resolve the first. A frustrating situation for sure. The first article linked has what to do if it is not powering on unless plugged in. The second article addresses the error you are receiving when trying to restore.
