IPhone is "Up-to-date" but missing key new 3.1 features

Sooo wth?
iTunes and my iPhone says that its up to date with the latest 3.1 software but there's none of the key new features, like MMS. iTunes is most up to date and when i click "check for update" on my iphone, it says its up-to-date.
does anyone know what the problem is?

Depending on your provider, MMS might not be supported at this time.
see this page: http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/#messages.sending-and-receiving-messages
Turn MMS messaging on or off:
In Settings, tap Messages, then tap MMS Messaging to turn it on or off. You may want to turn MMS >Messaging off, for example, to prevent sending or receiving attachments when fees apply.
NOTE: The MMS Messaging setting doesn’t appear if MMS isn’t supported by your carrier.

You got ripped off. You bought a hacked/jailbroken phone. That's what error 1015 means. Return it and get your money back if possible and buy a phone from a legitimate source.
Discussing jailbroken / hacked phones is forbidden by the terms of service. Jailbreaking / hacking voids any warranty and forfeits your right to support here or from Apple. You can not get help here.

  • Address book data but missing Address Book application

This is strange but after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I seem to be missing my Address Book application. I can see my address book data but I cannot launch the Address Book application.
I have my contacts synced with Mobile Me & I'm not sure where the app went. I can still sync but just can't open up the Address Book app (obviously)
I am not sure how to get my Address Book app back....any suggestions?

you don't need Pacifists for this one. insert the snow leopard DVD, open it in finder and double-click on optional installs->optional installs.mpkg. follow the instructions and choose to install Address Book. then reinstall 10.6.2 combo update to bring AB to its current version.

  • Cannot access/change APN with iPhone 4.1 (Celluar Data Networking Missing)

I updated my iPhone 3GS from 4.0 to 4.1 last night and this morning I notice when trying to retrieve mail I receive the error "You are not subscribed to a cellular data service" and I cannot access mail, the web or use any data related applications.
I do have the data plan and yesterday it was working fine. I confirmed with AT&T I do have the data plan.
I thought maybe my APN was deleted so I wanted to confirm it. But now when I access Settings->General->Network there is no "Cellular Data Networking" option and in fact it has been replaced with "Set Up Internet Tethering". I cannot access my APN settings.
I reset the network settings, rebooted and ejected/inserted the SIM card however this field/option does not return.
    Questions:
    1) With iOS 4.1, was the APN field moved?
    2) Is there a reason it would disappear?
I confirmed I do have 4.1 and AT&T says my data plan is correct, active and did not change overnight. I simply want to confirm my APN says wap.cingular but the field is missing!
I am frustrated since all I can receive are calls and text messages but cannot retrieve mail or surf the internet.
My apologies if this is a known issue however I appreciate your direction.

    Hi,
I'd like to suggest the following:
    1. Perform a 'hard reboot' by pressing (and holding) the sleep/lock and home buttons simultaneously until your iphone reboots then check your settings after.
    2. If that didn't work then try re-syncing with itunes (make sure you've got the latest version) and see if it pushes a 'carrier update' to your handset.
    3. If the above procedures fail then you may have to redo the update process by performing a restore via itunes.
I actually do not have the option to edit the APN settings on my iPhone but this is because my carrier (Orange UK) restricts it by locking down the carrier settings file that gets pushed to all Orange UK iphones via iTunes.

  • Skype 6.22 is okay but missing key features

I almost get the impression that the programmers do not use skype. If they do, they just use it internally amongst themselves because if they did, they would see the features they have removed in the sake of making it easier are in fact making it more difficult.
Point 1: if you are doing any sort of world commerce, you like to know what time the person you are talking to (im or voice) has locally. Case in point, North America is still on daylight saving time where as Europe has already moved their clocks back on hour. Not being able to see if they are still within their "workday" is a problem because you don't know if they are at the time they said you would meet with them. Also, if the person is travelling and you don't know their timezone, seeing that they are sleeping is nice as you don't wake them up at 3 am Hong Kong time when you think they actually in their normal time zone.
Point 2: What happened to the save as when receiving a file. Why do you have to go through many more clicks to save a file now? Whose bright idea was that? Don't they understand that your enhancements ARE SUPPOSED to make things EASIER, not more DIFFICULT.
Point 3: What happened to good UI design? Placing an entry field with the same border colour and background colour as the surrounding background is just plain BAD. Yes, the UI is designed for visually impaired users (the blue colour is a colour good for colour blind users), however, even they will not see the input field area to type in a phone number.

Update to post: After having to revert to my phone to skype while I had a problem with my laptop this morning I noticed the UI of the phone is exactly what I see on the desktop. Hence the problem. The design team needs to get the head out of the sand and see how people actually do things. A phone is not a desktop and a desktop is not a phone. Stop designing things for the lowest common denominator! They have hidden numerous things to try to look and feel like the phone versions. That is just stupid. You would have thought they would have learned from their minders (MS Corporate) grand mistakes with Windows 8. But nope, they have thrown themselves off of the cliff like lemmings. If is as though they have forgotton that they can easily detect what they are building for and how to use conditional compilation. I will bet you a donut, they will not listen to those who actually use this stuff to do things. But as someone who does shell out money for some of the features (long distance calling overseas to non-skype users), I would hope they would listen.
As for the save to, that is a bug in that it should not change the existing settings to something different.

  • IMessage on iMac is up-to-date, but missing conversations with new contacts.

I use iMessage on both iMac and iPhone.
    Contact lists sync properly.
On iMessage on the Mac, I'm able to see the latest messages sent to any contacts listed. However, all of my contacts are not listed. What I also noticed is that they're all contacts I added recently.
    Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

  • Successfully downloaded iOS5 but missing some "new feature" apps???

I've successfully completed the download; however, some of the advertised applications are missing.  For example, I've located the option to download Twitter within the Settings application and I've located the new "Reminders" and "Videos" apps; however, I cannot locate the "notifications", "PC free" or "wi-fi sync".  Are these imbedded within other applications?  Can someone enlighten me on how to access these new features?
    Regards,
    Middlebunny

there only seems to be 10 pages of apps not the 11 pages of apps I thought it would have
It depends how many you have installed
Does the 3.0 update not include the landscape for the keyboard?
Yes, it does, but it depends on the application. It applies to the built-in Mail, Notes & Safari applications.
Not all third-party applications have been updated for landscape keyboards.

  • ITunes says iphone is up to date

itunes says the iphone is up to date, but it isn't updating iphone to iOS5

If the tag under your question stating you have the iPhone 3G is correct.  That model is not supported with iOS 5.  The latest and last iOS the iPhone 3G supports is iOS 4.2.1.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade?

    Dear wise & wondeful people:
How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade? Half of my contacts, notes, ect. were on my iCloud so have happily moved to my new iPhone but the rest are completely resistant. For example, on my iCloud I have 14 missing contacts starting with the letter A alone, however they are happily viewable on my old iPhone 4S and won't budge over into the iCloud.
There are also 3 notes missing yet still acessible on my onld iPhone 4S, the list goes on.
Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much.

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that.  Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

My Itunes Library and iPhone have fallen out of sync on music over the yearsare - how can I compare my itunes library with my Iphone  to see what songs are missing from my library so I can then bring my Library up to date

    Hello Solid Buck,
Thank you so much for providing the details about the duplicate song issue you are experiencing.  It sounds like you would like to remove the duplicate songs that will not play on your iPhone, but when you connect it to iTunes, iTunes only shows you one copy of the song on your iPhone.
In this situation, I recommend deleting the individual songs that do not play directly from your iPhone.  I found the steps to do this on page 61 of the iPhone User Guide (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf):
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.
