IPhone isn't recognising Contacts when receiving phone calls!
Whenever someone tries to call me, even if they don't have a private number and are in my contacts, it is coming up as 'Unknown' caller. Please help!
So when they call it says "Unknown" and not the number?
That suggests to me that the phone number of the person calling you is not being sent across the network and therefore the iPhone isn't being told the number, and therefore it can't match the number. If it was just the fact that a number was coming up instead of a name then it would be the case that you didn't have the number set up correctly in your contacts (e.g. missing area code).
So, you say your brother's "phone is set to send caller id". Are you sure about this? Can he call another phone and make sure? If that works then is that other phone on the same network as your iPhone?
There isn't a setting to turn off numbers and display unknown instead (and I can't see a use for one) so if you can prove this works on another phone on the same network as you, but not the iPhone, then it suggests to me that the iPhone is faulty...

Contact pictures when receiving phone calls
I have some contacts which have pictures directly taken with my iPhone and naturally they display full screen when receiving a call. Other contacts however have imported pictures which display as thumbnails when I receive a call.
Is there a way to either have them all display as thumbnails (other than using pictures not takes with the iPhone)?

This was in 3.1.3, but it should be similar in 4.0, although I haven't had a chance to test it yet.
Thanks, yes, that is still the case.
What I am trying to accomplish is, that ALL pictures show up as thumbnail. So, with all your replies it seems like the only way to do this would be to save the picture on the PC and then re-sync them. -
I have upgraded to 4.3.3 and now the phone does not ring when receiving a call and also the keyboard clicks have disappeared. Does anyone know the solution to this problem please.? Thanks

I once had a phone call in the middle of a trip. I was listening to my music and phone rang. It was work calling. I answered the phone and the music continued to play. I had to tell the person to hold, then i had to use multitask to find the app and manually turn it off. Once that was done, i retrurned to the phone call to find out that when i receive an email it too plays through the speaker while i am on the phone. Why wouldn't it mute these things while i am making a phone call? Is there a setting for this? It seems to me that this only happened since IOS 5, but i can't be 100%. What i am 100% on is the fact that it happened on my Iphone 4 and is now happening on my Iphone 4s.
The music continued to play with the iPod?
If so, when a call is received while listening to music with the iPod, when the call is answered the music should be paused. When ending the call, the music starts playing again from where is was paused.
There is no automatic mute with notifications for received email or messages while on a call and there is no setting for this. -

when i get a phone call, no ringer sounds even though yes i'm sure i have a ringer selected.
if i test the ringer sound in general > settings, i hear the sound. if i change the ringer to another option, i can hear it in settings, but not when i actually get a phone call.
when i get a text, no alert sound is made even though yes i'm sure i have an alert selected. if i test the alert in general > settings, i hear the alert sound. if i change the alert to another option, i can hear it in settings, but not when i actually get a text.
i have tried a restore and a re-boot

This apparently resets the apps and the ring tone goes on when you receive a text.

IPhone 6 seems to crash when making phone call from Mac
When using my iPhone 6 Plus to make phone calls from the Macintosh, (initiating call from Mac Contacts app in Yosemite) the iPhone continually brings up the Apple logo and does a quick restart over and over again. The phone call, however seems to work, but it's just that the iPhone looks as if it's going crazy showing the Apple logo and then the home screen over and over again. This had worked initially, but not anymore. Both iPhone 6 and MacBookPro up to date with updates.
If you never find an app that will do it then you could have a go at making one yourself-I don't think you need to pay Apple as long as you don't want to sell it.

I think what you are asking is ,can your iPad let you know when you have a call on your I phone. The answer is no it can't.

IPhone 1, 2.0 is rarely receiving phone calls
Most people who call me say they call, then after a ring or two it beeps at them and hangs up. Never getting my voicemail. Then, other people say it goes straight to voicemail without ringing. I am always getting voicemail and no missed calls at all or people have to try to call me 3 times before they get through. Does anyone know what's going on with this?
Should I take it in for repairs? It's not a 3G phone...just FYI.

LorneI had a similar problem with my phone today. I called ATT and they "reset" my phone by sending some type of network signal. Works fine now.

ABOUT ONCE A WEEK I HAVE TO REBOOT MY PHONE. I START GETTING CALLED FAILED OR TEXT FAILED ALERTS. WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE. THIS PHONE IS FOR COMMUNICATION, IT IS NO HELP TO FIND THE PHONE STOPPED FUNCTIONING TWO HOURS EARLIER. IS THERE A FIX.

I cannot receive phone calls or messages when iPhone screen is locked

i have an iPhone 5.
i Am unable to receive phone calls or text messages when my screen is locked. When I unlock the screen the missed call doesn't even appear so I have no idea anyone has called me. Text messages come through at about 12:30am every night.
i Have tried EVERYTHING I could find in forums and Apple trouble shooting. This is my last resort other than sending it to Apple.
iit is as if "do not disturb" is stuck on, but it isn't.
i Have tried:
changing all all do not disturb settings.
checked call forwarding etc.
checked mute
my silent button is not on.
i have reset every setting and then even reset the phone and manually transferred everything back onto it rather than restore It from previous back ups.
oout it in recovery mode.
i Have no success with any.
the weird part is when I first lock the screen and try to call it, it does ring. But if I give it a minute or more it won't ring.
does anyone have any ideas or anything that may help?
PLease, please, pleaseI Have also checked blocked numbers and swapped SIM cards from a completely different carrier so it's not the carrier either

This should fix it:
Open the phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating "Settings updated."
Double tap the Home button to bring up the recently used apps list at the bottom. Locate the Phone, Message, and Contacts apps, swiping if necessary, and press and hold until they jiggle then press the red minus sign to stop them.
Wait a 3-5 minutes.
Try your phone again to verify that it's fixed. -
IPhone 3G OS 3.0 (not able to start / receive phone calls)
Since I've updated to iPhone OS 3.0 I can't make phone calls via the "normal" cellular network. When my iPhone is on the 3G network everything works fine.
When my iPhone is on the "normal" cellular network with full signal and I try to make a phone call I get the "call failed" message after 10 to 20 seconds.
When the iPhone shows it's connected to my provider via the "normal" cellular network and people try to call me they reach the voice mail
Sometimes I can make a phone call via the "normal" cellular network and then after a couple of minutes the connection got lost and I get the "call failed" message.

I tried to restore the phone now for a couple of times without restoring the backup but nothing seems the solve this issue. I tried with different SIM cards (iPhone is sim-lock free, Belgium iPhone) but all with the same issues. At this time I don't use the iPhone anymore and switched back to my old phone "Sony Ericsson K750i" because otherwise I want be able to receive phone calls when I'm in a area where there isn't any 3G network available.
Apple please fix this issue, I've got my iPhone for the "Phone" part, not the "i" part.I have exactly the same problem with my Q-Three and 3GS 3.0. I haven't found a solution. Motorola bluetooth works fine. Previously used the Q-Three with a Samsung T919 without issue. Looks like a compatibility issue. Lots of problems posted in the blogs with iPhone and Bluetooth... If you figured it out, please let me know. Thanks.

Making sure you can use your phone when you need it is certainly a concern of every consumer. I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your phone but you have reached the right place for assistance. Has your phone completed any recent software updates at all? I went to the link. I selected iPHONE. There was a big iPhone icon above the comment box -- so I was absolutely, positively on the right page. I spent five minutes or so crafting a constructive comment as to why I wanted the full photo feature back on incoming calls on iOS7. Then...i noticed the box below the comment area asked 'What operating system are you on?'. And the drop down selection list included every operating system since Job's garage days -- but not one single iOS entry. No iOS entries on an iphone page. Unless I'm missing something, I think anyone writing a feedback comment is wasting his/her time.

Unable to make or receive phone calls on iPhone 3G
I just returned from traveling; during my trip, the phone started searching for a network, which it has never done repeatedly, like it is now. Since yesterday I have not been able to receive or make calls! Very frustrating, esp. since I was traveling into a volatile weather situation. At any rate, internet, text messaging and email are working fine. HELP!
