IPhone keeps launching iTunes

Original iPhone (2.2.1), USB cable to MBPro. Every two or three minutes the phone automatically launches iTunes. Auto sync is disabled, and I have tried with two different USB cables. Very annoying to have iTunes popping up every few minutes. Anyone know how to stop this.

Unfortunately, that did not work. Sometimes I leave the iPhone hooked up to the MBP just to keep it charged and to sync as needed when I am working my calendar, address book, pod subscriptions, etc. So this is not an issue of when I connect, but as I am working, suddenly for no apparent reason (like right now) I hear the phone bleep and up pops iTunes. Almost seems like a short of some kind except that, as I said, I have used two different USB cables and the same thing happens. It does NOT happen, however, with my iPod... just the iPhone.

  • Phone keeps launching itunes through remote sync

Not sure how to disable wireless sync but need to sort out some kind of resolution. Recently its launching itunes every 30secs or so and the only way to stop it is to turn wifi off on my iphone. I thought it only wifi syncs when connected to a charger but its now doing this wirelessly which can be very annoying.
Strangley though, my ipad 2, set up in the same way, even when plugged into the wall and on charge over night, does not do this, infact it would be fine if it woreless synced overnight when on charge as my laptop is not in use and I could do with purchases beeing added for the next day, but right now the phone is really causing me a problem.

  • IPhone not launching iTunes automatically

How do I get my iPhone 3G running version 2.1 to automatically launch iTunes 8? The only thing that launches automatically when I plug my iPhone in is iPhoto, and that's when I take a photo with my iPhone (which is ok). I'm running OS X 10.5.5. Thanks!

I just noticed this peculiar behavior on my system too, but this might help you.
Go ahead and launch iTunes, plug in your iPhone. You'll then notice that on the left side, under Devices, your iPhone should appear there. Click on it, and you'll see the Summary tab, and within that the sections for iPhone (which lists your iphone info), Version, and Options. Within the Options section, you should see 3 checkboxes: "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected", "Sync only checked songs and videos", and "Manually manage music and videos".
Here's the strange behavior I noticed on my computer. Prior to iTunes 8, if I had the "Automatically sync ..." checkbox UNCHECKED, then iTunes will launch, but will NOT sync automatically.
However, now with iTunes 8, if I have that "Automatically sync ..." checkbox UNCHECKED, then iTunes will not launch at all, and of course iPhone won't sync. I would have to manually launch iTunes, click on the "Sync" button in order for it to do so.
I then CHECKED the "Automatically sync ..." checkbox, and viola! upon plugging my iPhone in, iTunes automatically opened, and started syncing.
So it seems that if you want iTunes to launch AND sync automatically, you'll need to check the "Automatically sync ..." option box, and be prepared for iTunes to launch and sync automatically.
If you don't have that option checked, then it won't launch or sync at all.
Strange eh? Hope it helped though.

  • My MBP keeps launching iTunes

I've seen several other threads in this discussion over the past several years without any comments or resolution.
All software is updated (Mountain Lion), latest version of iTunes.
iTunes recently started launching itself, and playing random songs.
The only change I have made recently is my apple TV was changed to the same iTunes account that is associated with my iTunes on my MBP.  Previously I used a different iTunes account on my apple TV.

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch.  If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-size plug on the speakers.
    Hope this helps.

  • New Mac - ITunes keeps launching

I have just taken delivery of a new MacPro and for some reason some something is launching iTunes.
I am not launching it manually and it is not happening at start-up but after a short session of browsing with Safari (no multi-media involved) I am being asked to agree to the iTunes agreement. Of course I do not want to. iTunes is not much use to myself. I click on Decline only for the box to return! The only way to break the cycle is to force quit iTunes.
    1. Is there something in OS X that is dependent on iTunes?
    2. Is there a way to stop this iTunes agreement window, especially if I decline to agree.
    Thanks.
    Latets Information.
System Preferences seems to have locked itself open. I was examining the keyboard setup. Could this launch iTunes? The current situation is that even Force Quit does not work! The list of running apps does not appear! I do not want to agree to iTunes. I cannot Decline. I cannot Force Quit!
    Suggestions appreciated!

Replying my own Question ... .it is the f8 key. The b*y thing keeps launching iTunes and I cannot seem to stop it!
this seems like a bug to me. If there is no media app loaded then why would I want that key to load one? Where is the Spaces key ... that is what is useful not more media frippery.
How can I disable the MM functions of these keys?
System Preferences does not seem to be working correctly. It is still talking about other keyboards where the dashboard is on F12 etc. This bears no relationship to my hardware. neither, as far as I can see is there any mention of iTunes, nor mention of shortcuts in the iTunes preferences.
    Suggestions welcome!

  • For many of us there is an error when launching iTunes 9 - try this first.

If you are among the many that has the error about a dll file not found, you might want to look at this thread and try the reccomended fix (installing an update to directX).
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10400226#10400226
But BEFORE you do, make sure you aren't already using a version of directX that is higher than that shown (click start, run, and type dxdiag then enter. this is the directX diagnostic tool built into Windows.). The link in that thread is to Microsoft's download page for updating directX9.0c and all PREVIOUS versions.
However, if you're in any way like me, and have been maintaining your computer somewhat diligently, you are already using directX version 10. This fix probably doesn't apply in this situation, and needs further analysis from both Microsoft and Apple.
Good luck! Post your results, please, so that we can all benefit and resolve this annoying error!

Perform a hard reset on your iPhone (press the Home button and the Sleep to screen off)
Connect the USB cable to your iPhone and launch iTunes
It's time to position your iPhone into DFU mode (Device Firmware Update) how: Press the Home button and the Sleep for 10 seconds (remember 10 seconds!), After ten seconds, release the sleep button and press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds (if you do it all correctly and the time is right) then it will display a message from iTunes like this.
If you do not get a message like that, repeat step 3, until you get a message like the above on your iTunes.
After step 3 successfully, iTunes will start restoring your iPhone firmware to its default alias originis firmware
After the restore process is complete, your iPhone will reboots and if your iPhone is connected to iTunes, so flame, iTunes will offer the iPhone restore from backup that you created (which will restore the contacts, music, video, photo, and application), if you previously never backed up your iPhone, you should select this option.
The process of backing up restore your iPhone will take approximately 2 to 3 hours, so you should be patient.
Once completed, iTunes will inform you and your iPhone will reboot again
The next process, sync your iPhone your iTunes, if the iPhone has been running with the normal synchronization process would not be a problem.
Congratulations, your iPhone is running normally again.

  • Can i connect two iphones to one itunes???

i have a iphone 4 s attached to my itunes on my laptop can i connect a second iphone but to a different i tunes account??

You will need to be constantly logging and and out of each iTunes account with iTunes depending on which iPhone is connected and being synced.
Create a new computer login account for this person and their iPhone keeping the iTunes library and account for each user separate.

  • IPhone 4 no longer automatically launches iTunes

My iPhone 4 no longer automatically launches iTunes. In iTunes, the box is checked that says "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected." I've checked and unchecked that box, restarted the computer, etc., but nothing I've done has fixed the problem. I've seen the solutions for the same problem in Windows, but not for a Mac. How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I have the same problem and found the same solution (i.e. unchecking then "open iTunes when iPhone is connected", then rechecking it, re-installing iTunes Helper).
The only problem is that this keeps happening over and over, and while I can certainly manage opening iTunes manually whenever I connect my phone, it bothers me that something is not working and I cannot figure out how to fix it.
I noticed that when iTunes does not open automatically, you will see that iTunes Helper is not available in the System Preferences -> Users -> Login Items. The funny thing is that I am not even able to find it on my computer at all - until I re-install it through iTunes that is...
Does anybody have an answer for this?
    Thanks,

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • Why does iTunes keep launching?

All of a sudden, out of the blue, iTunes keeps launching when an alarm goes off in the application Alarm Clock Pro (ACP).  My wife is a teacher and ever since August 2011 I created alarms to notify her five minutes before the end of her classes.  She doesn't know how to change anything in ACP and she doesn't use iTunes.  Nothing has been changed but last week every time an alarm goes off iTunes launches.
I've gone through and checked the preferences in both programs and nothing points to this issue.  I know, ACP has an option to launch and play something in iTunes but this is NOT selected.
    Any help or suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Merry CHRISTmas,
    Nathan

I thought at one time you there was a setting to prevent iTunes opening when a device was plugged in, I don't believe that the sync option will prevent that.
In your login items, System Preferences/Users and Groups do you have an item "iTunes Helper" I think this is the application monitoring the devices you plugin.
You could try closing that application in Activity Monitor and plugging your devices in and checking if it stop iTunes opening, also check if it stops it opening through the day. If it does just remove it from your login items after confirming it does not impact on other iTunes uses.

  • I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet "

iTunes told me to delete my backup folder when I was having problems syncing my phone to my computer. After that it wouldn't work at all. After trying and trying I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet ". What the **** itunes? Nothing is working!!
I wanted to update my iTunes so I could sync my phone to my computer and update my phones software so I can use the latest apps that need a 4.2 or higher.
This is not fun for me so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help. Is it possible to download the "cabinent file" with the lastest iTunes?
    Thank you.

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows Vista

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

  • I changed my iPhone lately but i can't restore my last backup since it keeps saying "itunes could not restore backup because the password was incorrect" but I don't know where to put the password to make it happen... Any suggestions?

    Hey guys,
I just bought a new iPhone but i can't restore my backup files beacuse it keeps saying "itunes could not restore backup because the password was incorrect" but I really don't know where to put the password to restore it. I really have some files that are meaningful for me so I really need help. Any suggestions anyone?

Select your iDevice in the iTunes.
Choose the Summary screen (tab) and scroll to the bottom of the screen.
    Then un-select Encrypt iPhone backup.
iTunes will then prompt you to “Enter the password to unlock your iPhone backup”, enter the password you set originally.

  • Apps flashing but won't open, iphone keeps reverting to "Sync with itunes"

    The short version:
My iphone started having issues a month ago. When I tried to open an app it would flash then close. Also, the phone would randomly lock into the sync with itunes screen. That could happen several times a day. If I turned the phone off and then on again the sync screen would disappear. To get apps to work right I would have to install a free app from the App store on my phone and then all Apps would work again.
Apple was very nice and replaced the phone-still same problem.
AT & T was nice and replaced Sim card- still same problem.
Apple support had my reset the phone as a new phone and not restore from previous version-same problem.
I removed all the Apps on the phone-same problem.
Yesterday I removed all my music from the phone...so far, the phone has been fine.
    My question is...
What could be suddenly causing my music to suddenly cause these problems and how do I fix it?

Launch iTunes then connect the iPhone to your Mac.
You should see the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.
You can sync content from there.

  • Brand new iPhone- won't connect, won't launch iTunes, can't do anything (??

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. I just bought my iPhone today at Apple. I walked by AT&T and had an account set up. So, all was well, until I tried to plug it in. Two things have happened.
First, I can't use the phone. When I plug it in, it does not launch iTunes. I've read in other posts to give it 2 minutes and see if it will. I've also read to launch iTunes myself. I've tried both, and nothing. When I launch iTunes it does not show. It doesn't show on my desktop either, but not sure if it should, since it's new to me.
Specifically, the only thing that happens is, I hear a chirp or a tone and the screen lights up when I connect the USB cable. But all it reads is "Slide for emergency" which I did...I guess that's for an emergency call. An icon appears in the middle showing the usb cable and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. I've plugged it in, so not sure whey this is still showing. Also, at the very top it reads "no service" which I guess is due to it not being set up yet. And, there's a little "lock" symbol at the top. That's all I get. I've tried rebooting. Nothing. I've tried repairing permissions, then rebooting. Nothing. I cannot get this thing to connect.
Second, and please hear me out on this one. I've used macs for a while and am generally knowledgeable about them. Also, i've been on this iMac for about 5 months, hooked to the same internet connection. However, for whatever reason, after trying to plug the iPhone in, my internet and web applications have gone to complete crap on me. The WILL NOT connect at high speed...it's unbelievably slow. Insufferable even. Now, i've used this every day and have a really good idea of how it reacts. This is 100% out of the ordinary. As I sit here typing this, this page is STILL trying to complete loading. Something is clearly wrong here. Some pages won't load altogether. I've tried resetting my modem (disconnecting, unplugging). Performance was exactly the same. And, as mentioned, i repaired permissions. So, it's a little more than coincidental to me this happened immediately after running into troubles with my iphone connection. It's like the iphone somehow messed my computer up.
Sorry for the long post. I hope you can understand that I'm very frustrated. It appears that, not only can I not get my phone to work, but it seems i've messed my computer up in the process somehow. Any suggestions? Please. Thanks for your help.

    Hi all-
For anyone reading this, I've solved both problems, and figured i'd post in case it could help anyone else.
First, the iPhone issue. I figured it out by reading another post here. Basically, in the start up items of your "accounts" in system preferences, there's an item called iTunesHelper. I had that unchecked. I can't remember why...I guess b/c I believed I wasn't using it. Anyway, I had read that that could be a problem, so I checked it, rebooted, and low and behold....the iPhone connected and launched iTunes. I'm now up and running. Phew.
As for the internet sluggishness, I don't know what was causing it. But, I just booted from the Leopard dvd, ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions as well as verify disk. Everything checked out. Rebooted on Macintosh HD, and everything was fine. It's as if it never happened. Very weird. But it's fixed.
Hope that maybe helps someone in someway...if your iPhone's not launching iTunes, try checking the iTunesHelper app in your startup items. Worked for me.

  • Removed songs from iTunes or iPhone keep syncing - where are they and how to permanently stop syncing?

I have about 26 songs that were purchased from iTunes that continually sync from iTunes to my iPhone.  I have removed them from my phone and have removed through iTunes, but every time I sync my phone with iTunes they come back.
I have "manually managed" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535) my iPhone and have removed from the "On this iPhone" section in iTunes and that works great.  However, if I try to sync a playlist the playlist syncs, but then the 26 songs I just remove return and are put back on my iPhone.
On my iPhone I have Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads > Music set to Off.  I have Settings > iTunes & App Store > Show All > Music set to Off.
On my iTunes, in the iPhone section, I have under the Music section "Sync Music" checked and only one playlist selected with about 49 songs in it.
I have tried deleting those unwanted 26 songs from my iPhone (http://helpios7.com/remove-songs/) and then syncing.  The 26 songs return.
I am out of ideas -- is there some iCloud connection/setting that is thinking those 26 songs need to be synced to my iPhone?
I guess my question is - why can't I just sync the one playlist without having these "rogue" 26 songs keep syncing/reappearing?
    Thanks for you help!

Go into Settings > Music and there should be an option to "Show all music" all that is needed is for it to be turned off, then only music on your phone is displayed.
