IPhone Keeps Shutting Down Unexpectedly

Since I have downloaded iOS 7 on my iPhone 4, every time I use my phone, it locks up and then completely shuts down & restarts. Is there some kind of bug associated with this upgrade or is it something else? It never acted like this when I had iOS 6.

Depending on the age and use of the phone, it might be time to get the battery replaced.
Get your phone checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place.
You can also contact Apple Support and talk to them. They can check the battery online.
You can also visit this page to do that: iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support
Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.

    Hey Kaylyn07,
Thanks for the question. The following article may help in troubleshooting Kernal Panic’s for OS X:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
In most cases, kernel panics are not caused by an issue with the Mac itself. They are usually caused by software that was installed, or a problem with connected hardware.
To help avoid kernel panics, install all available software updates until Software Update reports, "Your software is up to date." OS X updates help your Mac handle the kinds of issues that can cause kernel panics, such as malformed network packets, or third party software issues. For most kernel panics, updating your software is all you have to do.
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you need help with this process, consider bringing your Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.  If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • My 27" Imac (A1312/EMC2390) keeps shutting down unexpectedly with no warning or "screen of death". I replaced the power supply, reset the SMC, and zapped the PRAM, but the problem continues. Can anyone help me?

My 27" Imac (A1312/EMC2390) keeps shutting down unexpectedly with no warning or "screen of death". So far I reset the SMC, and zapped the PRAM. I even replaced the power supply but the problem continues. My error and system logs seem unhelpful too. Can anyone help me out?

You can get a shutdown like that if the computer gets too hot. Make sure the air intakes on the bottom and the exhaust vent on the top are clean and are not blocked by something in your workspace like papers or the back of the computer being too close to part of the furniture. You need a good six inches (15cm) of clearance between the exhaust slot and other objects or surfaces.
Anti-virus/internet security software, especially the "pay for" kinds, can increase operating temps. So can third-party backup software furnished with many "name-brand" external hard drives.
Fan motors and/or temperature sensors can fail. If you have the original grey disks that shipped with your iMac, find the on that has Apple Hardware Test (AHT) and run it. If you have a failed heat sensor or fan motor, it will detect it with an error code containing "SNS" if it's a bad sensor or "MOT" if its a bad fan motor.
    AHT instructions here:

  • MacBook Pro 15" (Mid-2010) keeps shutting down unexpectedly

For quiet a while now - at least 3-4 months - my MacBook has been shutting down unexpectedly. It mostly happens when it is in sleep mode and I open the lid to use it again. In other case though, it also happened while I was trying to make a phone call or switching to the dashboard. Sometimes it reboots right away, other time I have to press the spacebar. While rebooting it also sometimes crashes on the Apple logo and reboots right after. The Apple logo boot screen also has had the progress bar below it for a while now. I'm on the newest version of Yosemite.
Oh and sometimes it's fine for a few days or even weeks. Sometimes it only crashes once and not again for days or weeks, other times - like today, it keeps crashing constantly. I also regularly stream movies and shows without crashes. Like I said, it's mostly right after opening the lid.
Yesterday it got really loud while opening the lid, although it didn't shut down. That made me think there might be a problem with the fans, so I cleaned them - they were pretty dusty. For a second I thought that fixed the issue, because there was no noise anymore. Moments after it rebooted by itself again, though. Unfortantely it crashed during rebooting too, so I don't have a crash report right now. The next time I get one I'll post it right away.
About 1,5 years ago I replaced my harddrive with an SSD, about 3 years ago I upgraded my RAM.
    Here are some more specs:

You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by a recall program that has now ended.
Residents of the EU may be entitled to warranty service for up to six years after purchase.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present.
You may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If you don't want to pay for the repair, you may (or may not) be able to work around the problem by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.

  • All my iPhone apps shut down unexpectedly

All my iPhone apps shuts down after a random number of seconds.
Below are what I did a few days ago and might had led to the problem:
I transferred my purchases to iTunes and synced them --> no problem
I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 --> no problem
I installed "the little crane that could" version 4.4 --> starts but hangs
Updated "the little crane that could" to version 4.4.1 --> crashes and shuts down
Removed the app to reinstall again --> not on App Store (knew later that Apple removed it for this bug)
Installed again from my synced apps on my computer --> starts but shuts down unexpectedly
Up until the last step, all my other apps were fine, but I think after I did that all my apps are shutting down unexpectedly including App Store, Contacts, and even during phone calls voice is muted for a second and I get back to home screen. I thought that this usually happens when I am connected to either WiFi or cellular data because I feel this happens when my iPhone is trying to load, sync, or connect but I found it happens even in Airplane mode.
I tried all the options I found on the Internet like:
    Restarting iPhone
    Rebooting iPhone
Removing and Reinstalling the App (now it is back to App Store after fixing the bug)
Closing all open apps by double clicking the home button
Deauthorizing, then Authorizing my PC and syncing
    Downloading a free app
I did not try to restore my iPhone because I do not want to lose my data and because some people said it did not help.
Do you have other solutions than the above?

I tried the last solution and restored my iPhone, deleting all apps, and all apps data.
Luckily I had most of them synced with iCloud so I did not lose much, but I had to reinstall, organize, and configure every and each app again.

  • IPhone 4s shutting down unexpectedly

My phone keeps shutting down for no apparent reason.. is this a bug..?

I'm having the same issue with my phone; started after an update.  Anamusic's suggestion isn't helpful at all...ready the manual...too funny.
I'm have the same exact issue.  I've restored my iphone and didn't restore from backup.  So the phone has no data or settings carried over from backup.  Same problem.
I brought it into the Genius Bar, after finally getting the attention of one of many stagnant employees I explained my issue and the steps I took to resolve.  She shrugged her shoulders and said they would perform the same steps...restore.
I constantly turn off running apps and didn't restore or download any apps yet the problem persists.  This all began after updating my phone....wish I could revert back to original OS....didn't have this issue then.  I have had to make urgent calls only to find that the phone shut itself off and takes time to come back (home\power key).
Someone....please help....I'm starting to dislike my iphone because it's no longer reliable.
    Thanks

  • Phone keeps shutting down & unexpected battery drain

I'm having the same issue, my phone is just 3 days old but it keeps shutting down frequently. When I press the power button it doesn't get turned on, I called customer service who asked me to press power button +volume rocker which turned the phone on. However the main problem still persists -shutdowns frequently. Extremely disappointed with Sony

  • Iphone keeps shutting down

My Iphone 5s keeps freezing and then shutting down. It takes 5 minutes and then it starts up again

    Do the basic troubleshooting steps:

I need help, Yesterday i booted up my iphone and it crashes like each 5 minutes,
i see a white screen fastly and it crashes and shuts down, then it try's to reboot itself,
So i put it in the computer and updated my os to 4.3.5 (if thats the latest (not 5)).
But now when i plug it into the computer it goes on and off byitself.
    Video of the crash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLBCkCiSZu8
How can i fix this or what could be the problem?
    Kind Regards,
    Gijsm

iPhone shutting OFF by itself is most often due to faulty battery. You have already done a Restore. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for quick free battery dianostic testing to confim that it is a battery problem.

Is it possible your Mac is overheating? Download and check iStat Pro (it's a widget):
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
Check the CPU temp and the fan speed.
If you have the 3-year AppleCare, you should probably also call and open a case number with them.

  • My macbook air keeps shutting down unexpectedly, any thoughts? It seems to be while streaming movies etc and i think it's when the power cable is plugged in, not while on battery

It's only 3 months old, I think it's mostly while streaming movies from the net whilst the power supply is plugged in? I have seen a couple of other similar posts. Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

    Try a SMC reset.

why does my iPhone 5s shut down unpredictably and needs to be reset every time to start back up?

    Hi Cyprus11,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is shutting down unexpectedly, I recommend going through these troubleshooting steps:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Best,
    Jeremy
