[iPhone] Keychain and internet password?

I'm trying to store Google Doc login info using the keychain service. Presumably I should be storing it as an internet password, but all of the examples are for generic passwords. Anyone know of any examples for using the internet password class? Or should I go the easy route and use the generic password class?

Couple of things to try Theo...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

What is the difference between the passcode on my iPhone 5 and a password?  I am locked out of my phone.

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but a passcode to unlock an iOS device is normally 4 digits long (so is a 4 digit code), though you can make it alphanumeric and longer (so effectively becomes a password).
If you don't know the passcode to unlock your phone or it's showing the disabled screen then there are instructions on this page for how to reset a device : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 - you should then be able to restore/resync your content to it.

  • I can't understand apple teminology - what is the difference between a keychain and a password - why does my mac keep asking me to type in the keychain - I don't know what it is or when it was created!!!

I can;t understand the apple terminology - what is a keychain and how is it different to password?  When I set a new password it keeps asking me for the login keychain.  None of my passwords work for it and I don't know when it would have been created.

A "keychain" is a secure database in which passwords are stored in an encrypted format to prevent unauthorized discovery of your passwords. Think of it like a bank safe deposit box in which you can safely store your passwords.
If you have a problem with your keychain then perhaps you have not changed the passwords correctly or need to repair your keychain. You might try:
Assuming that you are using a recent build of OS X, go to /Applications/Utilities and launch the app called Keychain Access. Go to the Window pulldown menu and select "Keychain First Aid". Enter your password, set the radio button to "Repair", and click "Start".

What is "local items"keychain and its pasword. how can i reset the password if i forget the password?

I just fixed the same problem.  Here's what to do.
Click on the finder, then scroll across to the GO on the top menu bar, but also hold down the option or alt key while you do this.
scroll down the go menu to library and highlight library.
    the library folder will open
go to the keychains folder and open it
in the keychains folder, then click and drag the blue folder that has all the letters and numbers for a title like "A2CEEE274-....."
drag this folder to the desktop
    now restart your machine
when the machine restarts, you should see the keychains folder still open with a new folder in it that looks just like the one you dragged out onto the desktop
throw the one on the desktop out in the trash
You just reset the keychain folder so the new mavericks update could recognize it correctly, by the way apple customer support mentioned the reason this was happening was due to the update, and this is the standard fix.  The apple keychain access pw should be your apple id or logon password.
    Good luck!!!

  • Login, Keychain and FileVault passwords

If someone gets access to my machine and changes my password in Single User Mode, then logs into my account, would they be able to access a) my Keychain and b) my FileVault-encrypted home directory?
At the moment, both of those are unlocked automatically when I log in.

    razzlex wrote:

no. keychain p[assword is separate from the login password and changing one does not change the other.
and b) my FileVault-encrypted home directory?
no. and in that case they won't even be able to log in.
At the moment, both of those are unlocked automatically when I log in.
that's because you have automatic login on and you have your keychain password set to be the same as the login password and to unlock on login. all those things can be changed if you want.

  • Creation of a new Keychain Entry (Internet password) for Apple Mail

I am working on a Mail Assistant to set up a new Mail Account for Apple Mail.
My problem concerns the creation of the Keychain Entry for the POP Account with which Apple Mail is set up (by my custom Mail Assistant).
I am able to create a Keychain Entry with all relevant User Data, the Keychain Entry also appears to be valid (I ran the Keychain First Aid Tool to check it), but when I start the Apple Mail App, it does not recognise the created Keychain entry, but is asking me to enter the Password for the POP Account which I set up successfully.
Any help is appreciated for giving me a hint of how Apple Mail recognises or links respectively to its adherent Keychain Entry.
    Thanks in advance

  • AddressBook corrupt and Internet Passwords wiped

    Hello--
SOHO network running from ML 10.8.5/Server 2.2.2.  My primary workstation upgraded to Mavericks.  After spending most of last week rebuilding the server and getting other things fixed, I had hoped to be doing work this week.  Unfortunately, the system, in particular my account on Mavericks, remains unreliable (I never thought I'd say this but good thing I had Windows running in a VM so I got some work done!).
The particular problem seems to include at least three issues, which may in part be related.
    1) Corruption/zero out of local copy of addressbook (AddressBook-v22.abcddb).  My addressbook is served from the ML server which, thus far, has remained intact.  However, I find the locally synced copy on Mavericks gets corrupted and then wiped.  Here are part of the log entries when this seemed to occur last:
    12/9/13 10:44:25.934 AM CalendarAgent[201]: Database file is empty: /Network/Servers/<path_to_user_home>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/<a long uid>/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
    12/9/13 10:44:29.101 AM CalendarAgent[201]: Database file is empty: /Network/Servers/<path_to_user_home>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb

        reason = "Failed to replace destination database";
And another entry indicates the Addressbook-v22.abcddb file is corrupted.
I also can note that I had a profile set up through Profile Manager that aimed to log users off after 30 minutes of activity.  The profile has not executed successfully yet on either Lion or Mavericks clients.  Because it wasn't work, I removed it today.
My first console entry this morning when I tried to use the computer which was hung on Reminders trying to logout:
    12/9/13 5:50:23.147 AM AddressBookSourceSync[4917]: 0x7faa506328a0: ManagedObjectContext (ABAddressBook) could not create the store at path: </Network/Servers/<path_to_user>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/<a long uid>/AddressBook-v22.abcddb> - creation error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=134090 "A timeout error occurred while connecting to the persistent store." UserInfo=0x7faa5062eac0 {NSSQLiteErrorDomain=5, NSUnderlyingException=error during SQL execution : The database operation timed out after 44321.40 seconds.} {
        NSSQLiteErrorDomain = 5;
        NSUnderlyingException = "error during SQL execution : The database operation timed out after 44321.40 seconds.";
While the computer is in the condition I've described, I cannot start apps for most of the collaborative services (Mail, Reminders, Calendars, Addressbook, Messages).  I assume this is because they all rely upon a healthy AddressBook-v22.abcddb file.
    2) All passwords in Internet Accounts (poorly named IMO) and Safari get wiped.  So far I haven't found any log entries useful to this.
    3) Notes associated with my server-provided email account do not behave properly.  Again, this appears to be a local syncing issue as the Notes on the server remain and are available via my iPad.  However, on Mavericks when I start Notes it bounces and bounces and then will finally start with zero notes.  If I close it, and go into Internet Accounts, I have  to (re)check the box next to Notes, and then restart.  At that point, the app pulls down the current notes from the server.  With this third issue, it has been occuring ever since I upgraded to Mavericks and is a condition that exists even when the AddressBook database problem described above is not in place.
My first question then is, what might be causing these addressbook, password and Notes problems, and how do I fix the issue?
I've found if I delete the AddressBook folder from Application Support, I can set up a new Contacts account profile and get the contacts from the server.  Everything runs okay for a little bit, but then the problem starts up again.
My second question is whether or not the profile I had been pushing to log off users after 30 mins of inactivity could be a cause of the other issues?  Since I removed the package, I'll partially be able to test that myself.  The profile was only in place for a few days so the issues with the Notes pre-dates that.  Curious if others have thoughts about this.
    Thank you.
    Tim

Indications seem to continue to point towards file permission issues but not sure where they are being generated.  All the files and directories in ~/Library/Application Support/Addressbook have a min of RW for the user.  I guess I will create a brand new test user on the server and set up dummy addressbook to check other file permissions.
Still welcome other thoughts/suggestions from folks.

p.s., I thought Apple moved away from SQLite?
p.p.s. In my Addressbook folder, under sources, I seem to have three generated directories, each with different unique names.  Is this normal?

  • ICloud Keychain and multiple passwords

If I have many different usernames and passwords on the same page, how can I get Keychain to show me all the different options? Pressing "fill in…" fills only one of those passwords. On a Mac it's really simple.

Well ... I found the issue ... if there is data in the field, Safari does not prompt with the other usernames.
So you have to delete the field first, even though Safari fills it in, and it will then prompt with all the usernames.

  • Mismatch login keychain and login password

    hi
I recently changed my login password because i forgot it. Now im having all kind of messages of the keychain password.  I don´t have either the local items keychain password.
im not able to reset the keychain, i get a message saying the specified keychain cannot be found.
    Im getting also this

You can't reset the password on the keychain. All you can do is reset the keychain itself. Essentially, you are creating a new keychain from scratch.
    First, Reset the Admin Password.
On Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:
Boot to your Lion Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. Select your administrators username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password. Restart the computer from the apple menu.
Now reset your keychain. See this document.

  • Keychain and Mail Password Debacle

    Waaaahahaaaah!
I'm having issues with my mail account password and I'm hoping someone can help.
I have a POP account set up. After I updated to 10.4.8, the mail app keeps asking me for my password. If I enter my password and click "add to keychain", the password won't remain saved. When I go into preferences/accounts, the password field is empty, no matter how many times I enter the password, exit and reenter the dialog box.
    Here is what I've done:
    1. I've reinstalled the combo update.
    2. I've deleted the mail.plist
    3. I've deleted the offending account and added it again (with the added bonus of losing some mail)
    4. I've run keychain first aid and no problems are found.
There is no password item in the keychain for my mail program.
I'm at a loss. And I'm not well-versed in using keychain access, but I followed all the tips suggested through mail help.
    Help!
    What am I missing?

  • Setting up a new TC.  Everything went fine.  I was able to connect a macbook air, 2 ipads, an Iphone 6, and even a windows 7 PC.  All devices showed a complete and functioning internet connection, but none of the devices could access the internet.

I am trying to set up internet connection to my home using a 3gig Airport time capsule as a router.  I unplugged the cable from the existing router, and plugged it into the ethernet port of the TC.  The TC fired up found tttttttthe internet connection, and glowed green.  I set up the password, and all, and was then able to connect a Windows 7 PC, 2 ipads, and iphone 6, and a macbbook air, all running the most current os.  All devices connect with the internet via the Airport device.  they all say that there is a fully functioning internet connection, but none of them can actually connect to the internet.  When I run a speed test via OKLA I am told that the test failed to innatiate. When I try to do a search I get an error message that the page cannot open because safari cannot make a secure connection to the server.
    Any suggestions?

Inside the house I have what looks like a phone cable that is plugged into a power supply, and into a router.
What is this router?? Is it the TC or a router supplied by the ISP?
It will depend on how the system works.. but the instructions from skybeam are fairly simple.. you just setup a router with dhcp set on the WAN port for connection.
On the airport utility open your TC by clicking it then clicking edit.
Make sure the WAN is set correctly and the ISP ethernet cable is plugged into it.
And make sure Network is set to DHCP and NAT.
Please give me the screenshots of the same things from your setup.

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Iphone 3G and wifi problems.  I've been reading the string about this from last year.  I have an iphone 3G with the latest ios 4.2.1 software.  Every time I connect to my home wifi - Belkin N  - it comes up after a few minutes with "Incorrect Password".

I re-enter the password correctly but it keeps happening.  Any suggestions?

I have a belkin n surf as well and i have got this and other problems. my iphone 3g and 4 often keep on loosing connectivity. especially if the bluetooth is one (either connected or not). it often fails to find my wifi network after waking up from sleep.
the problem i think is most certainly with belkin n. its one of the worst routers out there. unfortunately i didn't read the reviews before buying it. i have other problems with it to like connecting it to a dc++ hub. the setting up for port forwarding is a pain and it tends to connect to the internet on its own even though there are no settings to disable automatic connection.
i was later told by many people online and also read it in the reviews that its one of the very bad router out there along with other belkin routers. belkin has even arranged a replacement for me as its under warranty but i'm avoidng travelling to the other end of the city cause i know all models have the same problem. the worst of them all is a mere 3mbps transfer speed form one computer to another over wifi file sharing even if they both are connected via 802.11n and are placed withing full signal coverage range, with no firewall or security on either on the machines or router. tried it over several macbooks and windows pcs.
    i'm getting lynksys for good.

Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

    Do the usual wireless things.
Change the wireless name to simple name with only alphanumerics and no spaces.
Set to manual and use channels 1, 6, 11 in turn.
For testing take off the security altogether.
The iphone only works on 2.4ghz so only that band is relevant.

  • Keychain and iPhone log ins

I started to sync my Keychain from my MacBook Pro to my Phone via MobileMe. I expected that it would allow instant access to websites that have UserIds and Passwords stored in keychain, just like the computer. But it does not seem to work that way. So what is the advantage of synching Keychain via MobileMe? if it does not enhance functionality it seems like it is only a security risk.
    Thanks

Well, it answers everything except, "Why not?" Now that I have half-a-million unique and unmemorable passwords on my Keychain, it'll be difficult to integrate iPhone into my Digital Life. For instance, I tried to log into the App Store to download a free app. For whatever reason, they need my password. I typed it, copying from my Keychain, but it kept rejecting it. Now I don't know what I'm doing wrong, it's a mixture of lower-case, capitals, and symbols, and I can't copy/paste from the Keychain. At least, not that I know of. It kinda blows my mind that Apple would overlook such a "key" feature.</rant>
    Is there really no solution?
