IPhone kicks Macbook off wireless network?

Alright, this is rather bizarre. I have D-Link DIR 625 wireless router, and I had no issues with Macbook (and other computers) connecting to it at all.
I also connect my iPhone to the same wireless network. However, all of a sudden (the only change I know of is update to 10.5.7), if Macbook is connected to the wireless first, and I connect iPhone second, the Macbook looses the connection. If I restart the AirPort on the Macbook, then they both co-exist on the network with no issues. No other computer on the wireless network is affected.
Does anyone know what could be going on here? This is reproducible each time. All I have to do is turn iPhone on (it auto connects to the preferred network) and Macbook is out .

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • RE kicked everyone off wireless network

I just added a WRE54G v. 3 yesterday and set up was tricky, but seemed to complete in the end. There are 2 wireless networks here and I put the RE on a network called ART BARN. When I checked the settings the RE had the same exact settings except a diff mac address. This should work right? Well now no one can get on either of our two wireless networks here. Both routers are the WRT54G.
    Any solutions?

hi , first thing i would check here is to see if i have the latest firmware on all devides...
the WRT's have a newer and more stable firmware 1.01.0 ....i suggest you try this first.

    Hi timh86,
You can't unless it is your own computers. Turn on all your computers and printers. Turn off the Network Lock. Once all are reconnected to the Router, reenable the Network Lock.

  • Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update

I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
    Thanks.

    Hi  GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

  • Connecting my Sony BD player to my MacBook Pro wireless network.  It sees the network but it then asks for a WPA security key.  Where do I find this key?

Connecting my Sony BD player to my MacBook Pro wireless network.  It sees the network but it then asks for a WPA security key.  Where do I find this key?

    Hi Michael,
It sounds like your router's authentication is set to WPA and thus where the key is established. Does your MacBook Pro connect to a wireless router? If so, that's where you'd need to get the key from via a web-based control panel for the router or if it's an AEBS via AirPort Utility.

  • IPADs and IPhones dropping off wireless network

I have a site with a number of iphones and ipads that are attaching to a Wireless network managed by a lan controller ( cisco 2504 )
but they seem to drop off every 16 minutes .... and can then get back on a few minutes later.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks

Right now I have it in the setting; "(OFF) Bridge mode". Do you know if the airport extreme if the internet bottle necks will crash?

  • MacBook killing wireless network

I have the MacBook 1.1 . Router is Linksys WRT54G. Up until approximately 2 weeks ago the network has worked without issue. For some reason the MacBook is killing the wireless network. I thought it was my ISP at first but then narrowed it down to the issue only happening when the MacBook is on the wireless network and then in the past couple of days noticed the network gets killed as soon as the Macbook connects. Im not referring to the just the MacBook loosing connection.... the entire wireless goes down and no wireless devices have access. It eventually comes back up but as long as the MacBook remains in the wireless network it will go back down again.
Snow Leopard... Latest driver... latest firmware. It seems that this started right after a recent update downloaded on the MacBook but I cannot recall what was updated. I need this fixed since my Macbook is my main computer. The others are for family members and Im forced to stay off so they dont get booted.

I have a similar problem with the Linksys WRT54G2 router. The problem seems to come and go but like you rz22g the only time the network is affected is when my MacBook is connected. All other devices on my network work fine PS3, MacMini etc.
Just a speculation but the frequency of this problem started when I upgraded the firmware of the router. I don't know why this would have such a negative reaction. I have also checked that all the router settings are identical to the way they were before the router firmware update.
Oddly enough while I type this my network has been the most stable I've seen it in a while.

  • Pairing iPhone with MacBook on FIOS network

We recently got FIOS in our apartment. I have no problem connecting to our FIOS network on my MacBook via Airport or on my iPhone. However, I cannot get my iphone and MacBook to pair via FIOS. I recently had everything wiped off my MacBook and restored. I have Fliq Notes on my iPhone and had synced it using Mark/Space Notebook on the mac. Now, I can't access the notes or their categories on Mark/Space Notebook -- all that seems to be left is the application (recovered through Time Machine). I've been trying to get the information back onto my MacBook by syncing from the iPhone, but when I go to pair the two devices, I just get a ghosted "looking" within Fliq Notes. I'd prefer not having to purchase an ethernet cable, and want to know if there is another way to get the two to see each other and pair so I can sync the data.

You mentioned that the apps were restored from a backup. Try reinstalling the Missing Sync app on your computer. Next go thru the pairing process again. I don't have access to test pairing with a fiber optic connection. If you're able to pair, change the notes plugin settings to Device overwrites desktop. The notes database could be corrupted if the sync fails. You could locate the notebook database, move it and try the overwrite sync again.

  • Windows XP in Boot Camp kicking me off wireless internet

I use Windows to work sometimes. It could be an hour into working or 1/2 the day and the wireless connection kicks me off. Says it can't find a network. How can I fix this problem?

OS X and XP handle passwords a little differently. When OS X asks you for your WEP/WPA password you just enter it it and it automatically converts it to the appropriate hex equiv. encryption key in the background. XP does not do this. You have to enter in the encryption key manually.
If you go to whatever software you used to set up your wireless network on your Mac you will see an entry that show this key. If you are using an Airport basestation you can go to the Airport Admin Utility and click on the "password" button at the top and it will disclose your WEP/WPA key.
If you go back to Windows and go to the networking control panel you'll see your wireless network if you click on it it will ask for your WEP/WPA key. Just enter the key there and you'll be good to go.
I would not work with an open network, even though WEP/WPA is far from iron clad security. Also keep in mind that WPA is stronger, but also less compatible with certain set ups (like if you have a range extender).

  • Macbooks lose wireless network connections when they go to sleep

I work off a Mac in a busy office. We have a password-protected wireless network. The password is saved on my computer. Our landlord has an unprotected network. When I boot up, my Macbook tells me that it "can't find" any of my "trusted networks" and asks me if I want to join my landlord's. I say, no, pick the password protected network from the airport menu and log on. When the computer goes to sleep (or I shut the lid to put it to sleep), upon waking up, it asks me the same question. Usually takes a few seconds to find the right network.
I have this problem in two offices with two wireless, password protected networks. One of the networks is brand new. My boss got a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and now he's having that problem on the brand new network, recently upgraded for future Electronic Medical Records applications.
Only his problem is worse because it won't remember the network password. He gets the "not connected to the internet message," runs network diagnostics, chooses the protected network, reenters password, finally connects to the Internet, then has to close the computer to run back to work. (Quite comical if you're not getting the heat for it.)
Note, neither of us have this problem in our homes where our computers run on Airport Extreme networks.
Is there anything we can do to ensure that the Macbooks always find the password protected network and we don't have to re-enter the network password every time?

Thank you very much for your answer. Now I admit I'm a total non-techie. I see how to choose networking from system preferences and change location from automatic to new network. Then I can manually add the network. But do I also have to 'set macs to remember previous networks' and if so, how do I do that?

  • Cannot connect macbook to wireless network

Hey, I wonder if someone can help? I live in the uk & want to connect my nephew's macbook to his home wireless network.
His network is run off a Windows based pc, I have read in the forums that this is ok. He has a rather old pc that has no wireless card so I have installed a Netgear usb adaptor which runs just fine. The pc can "talk" to the Orange Livebox (Livebox -3660) and the pc can connect well, to the internet via the Livebox. So I have a stable internet connection.
The problem is that we cannot get the macbook ( a few months old only ) to connect at all to the net!
On the macbook there is no signal reading at all, airport is scanning for a network,it finds Livebox-3660 ok but when we enter the password the macbook says cannot connect!
Its curious that there is no signal reading at all on the macbook, yet it is right next to the livebox?
When I take the macbook home to my house, it connects immediately to my imac....full signal no problems. All systems go...
I must be missing something obvious ?? The security set up is currently WPA-PSK I dont know if this has a relevance? should I change this to make it more compatible to WPA2 ??
Much appreciate the help of the good people on this forum.
    Thank you in advance. W

    Sorted it!

  • Apple Devices Dropping Off Wireless Network

Hello, I have recently deployed a wireless network using a WLC 2504 with 21 Light APs. All seems fine except that
Apple Devices drop their connections every 15 minutes or so. A couple of minutes later they can reconnect but
    obviously something is wrong.
    Many Thanks

Only Apple device exhibit this kind of behaviour?
What kind of Apple devices?  Mac laptops?  iPad, iTouch, iPhone?
Have you seen this behaviour from, say, non-Apple devices?  Android?  Windows laptops?
What are the signal strengths when this happens?
Do you have Aironet IE enabled?
How far are the clients from the WAP(s)?

  • Why won't MacBook accept wireless network?

I've set up a wireless network on my iMac using a Netgear combo modem and wireless router.  But my MacBook won't accept the network.  Any suggestions?

    Try these steps:
    Shutdown and restart the modem
Shutdown and restart the router (alway restart the modem first)
Go into System Preferences > Network
Select the AirPort from the left hand side
    Select the "Automatic" location
    Click on Advanced
Select the AirPort tab and enter your network name
    Select TCP/IP tab.
    Configure IPv4 Using DHCP
Now click on Renew DHCP Lease.  After a few seconds you should get an IP address (probably 192.168.x.x)
    Click on Proxies tab.
Select Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP, clear all other options
Click on OK and Apply, etc.
    Good luck

If you connect to the wireless network before you plug in the dynadock the network will 99 percent of the time just show no wireless network connection, or if it stays connected it only stays connected for 45 sec to 1 minute
    Anyone have any sugestions?
