IPhone library losing synced music/films/podcasts

This problem started a couple of days ago - not sure what triggered it initially, but it's really getting annoying now.
I have an iPhone 3G (16GB) synching to a DELL desktop PC running Vista. Both iPhone and Vista are fully updated.
The problem is that my iPhone Music library is showing no content (no music, films or podcasts). When I look under the settings tab, the iPhone says there are 0 songs synched, although there is only 288MB spare capacity - so I suspect that the files are still there. Also, when the iPhone is synched to iTunes, the indicator says i's pretty much full (ie 288MB spare).
To try to fix this, I reset my iPhone and restored it through iTunes. The music synched OK and everything was fine, but as soon as I synched again, the library emptied again (but as far as I can tell, the files were still on the iPhone).
Another rest fixed the problem, and then another sync resulted in the same problem.
Don't suppose anyone has any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Nick

On further investigation, the iPhone synchronises with no problems as long as I'm not trying to put anything new onto it (ie Podcasts).
As soon as a new song / film / podcast is synched, that's when the library blanks, and it takes a reset and restore in order to see the music again on the iPhone.

  • Can't sync music or podcasts after update to iOS4

Just upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS4. Since doing this, iTunes can no longer sync music or podcasts to the iPhone. Only the apps will sync. iTunes claims the files cannot be found - despite the fact that they are all listed correctly in iTunes and all play fine if I double-click on them in iTunes. I've done a complete reset of the iPhone and configured it from scratch and the problem remains. I'm at a total loss as to what to do. Everything worked fine before the update. The only possible oddity in my set-up is that the music files in iTunes are stored on another Mac in the house, mounted as a shared drive - but this hasn't caused any issues previously.
All my computers are Macs running 10.6.4 and all latest updates. Help!!

Problem solved itself - eventually. Solution was to reboot the computer and reconnect to iTunes. When iPhone was connected to iTunes a message appeared which said that the iPhone restore had been previously interrupted and did I want to resume, restart or cancel. Ironically, whilst choosing resume and restart failed every time, by selecting cancel the system proceeded to correctly sync all the music. Go figure.

  • I Have an Iphone 3gs and have problems syncing music and podcasts

I have had my phone now for around 15 months and have not had previous problems with it.
I synced my phone today and it has cleared all music and podcasts from it and will not allow me to resync - apps are syncing fine.
It is a 32GB phone but on summary page it now says its capacity is only 4GB
Any ideas on what I have done or how to fix?
    Thanks

If you're talking about "regular" icloud, then setting it up should have no effect on your music.  Try syncing the device to iTunes and check the music settings and sync again.
If you subscribe to iTunes Match, is the device in wifi range?

  • HT1725 All my music films podcasts gone empty library

Did you change your Apple ID?

  • Sync Music and Podcasts from two computers

I would like to use my home Mac Pro to sync my iTunes music library and my PowerBook to sync podcasts (because I travel quite alot) to my iPhone is this possible?
    Thanks for any suggestions
    Mike

I havent tried it, but I would suspect the answer to be "no". The iPhone can only sync with one media library, and the media does not distinquish between podcasts, music or photos or videos. You can try by not checking podcasts on one computer, but when you try to sync the second computer, the entire media library will likely be replaced.

  • Syncing Music and Podcasts on separate computers BROKEN in 8.1

Until I updated to 8.1 I was able to sync my iPhone with my music library at home and my podcasts at work. After I updated I had a problem with this and reformatted my iPhone to resolve it and attempted to try it again. I synced with a few particular music playlists at home and then synced with my podcasts at work. I went home that evening to sync with my music and my podcasts were no longer available on my iPhone, however the space taken up by my podcasts did not change. I then went back to work to resync my podcasts, but there was not enough space left on my iPhone to sync my podcasts. Now I have space taken up on my iPhone by podcasts that I can not access.
Is anyone having the same issues? I hope this is resolved in the next update to iTunes. If anyone has a solution to this, let me know.

I have the same problem. The only way I've found to clear the space taken up by the phantom podcasts is to restore the phone. This clears the space but the problem still happens again.

  • Can't Sync Music or Podcasts to iPhone4s

Since updating to iOS 7 I've had increasing problems with both Music and Podcasts. I have an iPhone 4s runing 7.0.3 and a Mac with an older OS Snow Leopard 10.6. I'm running the latest iTunes: 11.1.2
It started with Podcast where it would show up as being on my iPhone, but I'd get "This episode is Temporarily Unavailable" it says it's there, but it's not. This tarted with only a few Pocasts but now all are gone and will not re-sync.
Then I created a playlist on my mac and synced my iPhone. I sync by plugging it into my Mac. I have "Sync Music" checked in iTunes along with "Selected Playlists, artists, albums and genres" > I have a number of playlists checked. I have also tried syncing Artists. I followed some instructions in another thread saying I should  uncheck "Sync Music" then recheck it. Doing that erased all the music I had on my iphone. When I re-checked, iTunes says it's synced, but the actual files are not transferred. I can so to a song on my iphone. The album art is there and it says the song is there, but it won't play. It just skipped to the next song...and the next and next since the actual files are not there.
According to the Itunes screen on my Mac, the playlists are listed as included on my phone, but they do not show up on the iPhone side. The "free space" bar along the bottom of itunes shows that it is mostly full, but that is also incorrect.
I have tried to Restore from a backup (a point before I wiped all my music) but that did not work either.
I would rather not have to do a full resotre to default if I can help it. I have aton of apps and it would be a huge job.
Have anyone else had a simliar problem? Anyone know how to get the actual files transferred even though itunes seems to think that it's been done?
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. I did try shutting the phone off, but that didn't help. I ended up just deleting all the "empty" playlists I had on my iPhone and tried checking and unchecking the "Sync Music" checkbox a few times. Odd thing is that it keeps re-checking itself one second it's unchecked and re-sycing and the next it's checked again. So I did the other obvious thing that I hadn't tried and re-booted my Mac and my phone again. Now that the playlists were deleted on the phone side, it's re-syncing again. This time it's taking the hours I would expect as it it now copying songs over... so I might have it working.
I did it first with the podcasts, it took a while to re-copy, but then still came up with the "this podcast it temporarily unavailable. So that is still messed up. I have no playlists, but an copying by artist instead. I'll have to wait another few hours to see if it worked.
I turned off the "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings" like you mentioned. maybe after a few more repeated resyncs it will work.
The song by song hours long copy is a good sign though. thanks

  • IPhone won't sync music unless it's in a playlist

    Hi All,
When I first got my iPhone 3G I could drag music onto the iPhone icon in iTunes to put music on the phone. Now it won't do that for any of the music in my library. The only thing I can do is make a playlist for the iPhone and sync it. Any insight on what that problem might be and how to fix it?

I have the same problem. I did this and it doesn't work. When I check "manually sync music" then go to the Music tab and click sync, the sync occurs but nothing gets synced, and the "manually sync music" box is unchecked.

  • Iphone 5 not syncing music correctly

Wondering if theres anyone out there in internet world that can help me .
I have a macbook air thats running yosemite and an iPhone 5 on the latest iOS .
Recently I've been having quite a lot of trouble syncing music from iTunes to my iPhone .
By trouble what i mean is when your on the sync summary menu in iTunes  selecting various albums to go on my iPhone ... it will not sync them correctly , even if i have manually cleared all my music off my phone .
Music that i download , is appearing on my phone , its just the rest of my collection I'm having trouble with
The only way i seem to be able to  get the music i want onto my phone is to download my already purchased items straight onto my iPhone  via the iTunes app . t
theres a syncing issue somewhere that i don't know about .
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
    Thanks
    Matty

I'm also having this issue - I'm getting about 27GB of garbage data put into the iPhone's 'other' category
    iPhone 5 64GB
    iTunes 11.4
    MBP 10.8.5
iTunes is set to 'convert larger songs to 128k AAC', and it's trying to sync a 9,500 song library which is a mixture of aiff, wav, mp3, m4p and a couple of m4v.
Previously these all fit on my iPhone a treat. Left iTunes last night after already having transferred around 7000 of them - iTunes informed me i'd have nearly 10GB space remaining. Came back this morning and iTunes shows my phone is now 15GB over capacity. It shows all the library has synced though - no greyed out songs.
When I go to the phone, that says it has 7GB space remaining and only 1700 songs synced. in the music app itself, there's very few songs in there. Looking in Settings>General>Usage, there's no visibility of where that 27GB is being used up. Music category is only 11GB (which should be more like 38GB).
Please help I've wiped and resynced my phone 3 times now, it's driving me mental: I just want to listen to music. I've never had this issue with Android's drag n drop.

  • IPhone only part syncing music from iTunes

The other day I had a problem with my iPhone 4S where safari would not open.
I tried turning off and on rebooting and backing up and restoring, none of these worked. eventually I restored from an older icloud backup and this solved the issue, or so i thought.
I then when to play some music in my car on the way to work. First song of an album played fine, then I after that the next song was on play but the time indicator wasnt moving and there was no sound and this was the same problem for a lot of my purchased music
I then deleted everything off the iphone and re-synced, this time the songs that werent playing before were not even syncing.
I think it may be because i reached my 5 computer autherisation limit so i have unauthorised all computers. This didnt work. Ive tried deleting my whole library and re-importing it, still didnt work. Ive tried re-importing a couple of songs that i know werent working and still they wont show up on my iphone when i sync.
The only way ive been able to get round this is by redownloading the songs from icloud via my phone, but this is going to take ages!!
I can;t see why some songs on an album are syncing and others not, it makes no sence. does anyone have any ideas whats going wrong?
I am using the latest version of OS X lion/ itunes / iOS.

De-sync all music to remove it from the device. Next perform a reset by holding down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go. Last, re-sync your music.

  • IPhone 4 not syncing music through iTunes

I just recently got the iPhone 4S and gave my iPhone 4 to my dad. We downloaded a new version of iTunes  on his computer and he has music loaded from CDs that he has. When we tried to add music to the iPhone 4 by syncing it with iTunes the music doesn't load to the phone. When we look back at the playlist that we tried to sync, it has the small error logos next to each song. We tried syncing other playlists and got the same result. We synced apps successfully. What do we need to do to be able to successfully sync music from iTunes to the iPhone 4?

    Welcome to  Discussions, loganmickel!
I don’t know what I could do to explain this issue any further. Don’t want to sound rude, so here’s a hint...

  • When I sync music from iTunes to iPhone, the music shows a dotted circle in iTunes and does not play on my iphone, When I sync music from iTunes to iPhone, the music shows a dotted circle in iTunes and does not play on my iphone

any ideas how to resolve this?

  • IPhone does not sync music

Currently my iTunes does not sync music to my iphone. It does effectively sync apps etc, but when i attempt to update my music it fails to do so. How do I fix this?
    Regards.

See if you've selected "Manually manage music and videos". If that's selected, even though you sync, only photos will be synced.

  • IPhone Won't Sync Music

I have a first gen iPhone, that I upgraded to the 2.0 firmware the day it came out. Everything was working fine. I didn't load music onto it immediately, since I cannot use the iPhone headphones and I needed to get an adaptor to use my own headphones. I finally got one last week, and loaded music onto the iPhone. I was very happy. Then early this week, I started getting an error message stating "the application MDCrashReportTool quit unexpectedly". When this started happening, my music stopped syncing and was removed from the iPhone. Based on information I got in another topic, I restored the iPhone. I no longer get the error message, which is good. However, I still cannot sync music to the iPhone. Everything else is syncing with no problem. I have tried unchecking all of the other sync options, so that Music is the only thing syncing, but still no go.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Shelley

I've just purchased an iPhone 3G and am having the same issues. No music is syncing to the iPhone. No playlists are syncing, but I can manually drag music onto the iPhone.
    What is going on here?
I installed the 2.01 firmware update before doing anything else. I then restored the iPhone to try to sort out the syncing problem. No change.
I have the iPod Touch and have had no issues with that

  • Iphone will not sync music from iTunes! HELP!

I bought the iphone 3GS about 6 months ago and after syncing some of my iTunes music to the phone the first time, I haven't been able to sync any other songs to the phone ever since. I selected to manually select which playlists, artists I would like to add to my iphone but in the end, a message pops up saying "The iphone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019)". What do I do? Does the phone need to be restored? Or is there a setting I need to adjust?
    PLEASE HELP!!

    In Itunes.
Summary options- Sync Checked Songs is checked.
Music Tab- Sync Music- Selected Playlist is checked.
Underneath- the various playlists are checked.
The capacity utilized goes up with increased playlists checked.
When sync is initiated it determines music tracks but never syncs the music prior to finishing sync.
