IPhone lock button barely works...

I've been using my iPhone 4S for like 6 months now.
But since yesterday, my lock button barely works.
Can I repair this without opening it or is it better to go to the local Apple Store?

Take it to the Apple Store. If the device is under warranty Apple will replace the device do to hardware failure. I've had Sleep/Wake buttons fail in the past and Apple claims it's not a repairable part.

Okay, today when I woke up I went to go check my Nokia Lumia 520, I pressed the wake up button, nothing happened, tried again, nothing happened, kept trying until I tried about 10 times, then it finally turned on, I don't know what could be wrong? IPhone Lock Button Not Working

I've been searching on uTube, etc trying to find a way to get this un-stuck, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've only had my phone since October 2012, would this be under warranty, or would anyone at Verizon be able to assist me?

If there is an Apple store near you, take the phone there. It's been less than a year, so if the phone was purchased new, it's still under warranty. Next option is to take it to a Verizon store (corporate store) but if they see any evidence of other physical damage or water exposure, you will likely be out of luck. An Apple store is your best bet.

Thank you for the advice for the lock screen, although useful it does not solve the problem of the buttons not working, really Apple should fix this even though it's over the 12 months, I have had many Iphones now but I've had many problems with them like buttons and screens, I am now going to get one of many other phones that are now as good as Apple Iphone If not better, Apple will be getting old now and competition is much higher , time to move on to the future of better phones )

It sounds like your phone is not successfully booting even though you have reset the device. I would next recommend attempting a backup and restore to iTunes with this article:

If you are unable to restore with iTunes I would next put the device into recovery mode, and attempt the restore again:

Is it the Home button that doesn't work, or the Power (Sleep/Wake) button? If the Power button works, you can switch it off. Not sure how you have been able to do anything without the Home button working?

You can't. You'll have to wait until the battery runs out and then recharge the phone. It will restart.
Sounds like now's a good time to get the phone fixed.

Try holding both home and power buttons until apple logo appears (ignore on/ off slider) and then let go. No data will be lost. Wait for phone to restart

If it's due to a manufacturing defect, the warranty will cover it. If it's due to accidental damage, it'll cost to get it fixed unless it happened during an authorized repair.

Within the warranty period, unless the failure was caused by accidental damage it will be replaced for free.
