IPhone locking out iMac's Mail

Hi there,
I received an iPhone 3GS yesterday. I set up 3 POP email accounts through iTunes, which was a breeze.
The problem I have is that if my iPhone is connected via WiFi, my imac won't receive mail. I keep getting asked for the password again and again. I also have a MacBook Pro with the same accounts on it. I have never had a problem receiving emails on this at the same time as the iMac, using the same router.
I've looked through a few forums and the only solution I could find is to turn off WiFi on the iPhone. When I do this, the iMac and MacBook receive mail with no difficulties for all 3 accounts. The same emails do eventually get to the iPhone through the 3G network.
Is there no way to get mail on the macs and iPhone using WiFi?
Many thanks

The 3rd account is my personal NTL account. The incoming mail server is 'pop.ntlworld.com'
Try changing it to 'imap.ntlworld.com' and make sure the username doesn't have "@ntlworld.com" in it.
You may have to enable IMAP in your account settings: See here:

Since upgrading to iOS8 iTunes no longer recognizes my iPhone5 when I connect to SYNC or BACKUP my iPhone5.  Thus, these features are no longer available.  When I click on the DEVICES tab, the window is dim, and will therefore not allow me to SYNC or BACKUP my iPhone5 on my iMac.  I use iTune 11.4 and iOS8.

After the first install of iOS8 my iPhone5 locked up with a picture of a cord connected to a device linking to iTunes.  After taking my iPhone5 to the Apple Store, an Expert was able to get my phone operational again.  However, when I returned home I found I no longer had options in iTunes to SYNC or BACKUP my iPhone5.  I suspect that ITunes does not recognize my IPhone any longer.  For the past 1.5 years I have no problems updating or syncing my iPhone…it was only after I upgraded to iOS8 last week.

  • HT201441 iphone lock out - Left me stranded 50 Mile from home, THANKS APPLE!!

I am frustrated beyond words at the iphone support and development team for not giving advance warning to users that the OS on our devices is expiring..
I was over an hour away in a major city enjoying a drive in move with my family, when my wife's device gets a white screen asking her to activate her device. There was NO warning of any kind that the device's OS was expiring or that any sort or activation was or should be needed.
After sever failed attempts including using my working iphone 5 as a hotspot, we decided to wait till we got home and use the WINDOWS PC to restore it.
Once the movie was over we go to wake up my device to find the same issue, now we are over 50 miles away needing to navigate HEAVY construction across a major metroplex with NO access to my devices features besides emergency calls. We did find the way home however, now we find out that we're unable to use iTunes to activate the devices, Verzion says its a known issue and we need to contact apple and apple is closed...
This brings up an important issue, the device needs to have EMERGENCY GPS\MAPS\Navigation functions.
Since I cannot even call a friend I should at least be able to use the maps function with manual input support (no contact list or history access for privacy).
Thanks again I really though you should also know I am really considering NOT purchasing the 5s 64 to replace my 5 64, I was going to pass this one to my son and get the latest, however, it seems you company is getting SLOPPY and perhaps losing focus on the customers, not just general customer service but our Safety and well being,

Not sure what your issue is, iOS or Apple products do not have an expiry date. Your service contract with your cellular provide however could expire. Since it happened to 2 phones I would still be questioning the cellular provider.

  • Locked out of mail have to unlock every time I try to access it.

I have been using my mac (mini) for a couple years and have always had macs, so I;m not an idiot (meh)…Just recently I have been locked out of my mail every time I try to use it, with either "disabled for security reasons" or "unable to connect to iCloud.." This is a personal computer…no network to deal with, just me, my iPad and iPhone. It is really really annoying. I have reset password, checked iCloud preferences to make sure my primary email address is the right one, and still have to unlock every time on every device. I have 3 accounts as I am old and have been through the @mac, @me and @icloud. I know I am missing something that is probably simple, but for the life of me I can't figure out what. When I go to unlock it everything works fine, but I have to do this constantly. I have never been asked to do this before the last 2 weeks, now it is ever-present. @mac has always been my primary email…it has never been changed (by me). I am lost,
    please advise
    Thanks

    This is on my iPad

  • My iphone 5s was dead for 2 weeks then i turned it back on and it says its locked out for 22 million hours I have tried restoring it 5 times and it just goes back to the same page what do you suggest I do

Iphone locked out for 22 million hours and restoring doesnt work what do I do

    @soccercole1
You need to restore you iPhone via iTunes on your computer.  If you do not remember your passcode you have to place the iPhone in recovery mode in order to restore it.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • IMAP accounts locked out - small triangle lock error symbol

I use Apple Mail to read several Gmail IMAP accounts. Mostly, it works fine. I've used Gmail IMAP since IMAP was offered.
Every so often, one or more of the accounts will lock out. Apple Mail will display a small upward pointing triangle error symbol enclosed in a small circle, next to the account name. When I click that triangle error symbol, it explains "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account. The server error encountered was: Too many simultaneous connections. (Failure).
I have 6 IMAP accounts connected, but I hear other people manage that number fine.
The largest IMAP account has around 3GB of data, and I've heard that people get to 6GB with Apple Mail handling that well.
So I don't know why this happens. It is intermittent.
Using the latest 10.5.7 Leopard Mail.

The too many simultaneous connections is from gmail, not Mail. Google limits the number of simultaneous connections to their server to prevent someone from hacking into your gmail account. It mostly prevents me from reading my email.
When Mail opens a connection to an IMAP account, it generates multiple connects to allow real-time, upload, download, sync, etc. instead of one connection that must wait for the others to finish. Depending on the positions of the Moon, Sun, and Uranus, Google will identify this as too many connections.
I can usually unlock it by logging into the gmail web interface. I'm not sure why adding the connection clears up the other connections, but there you go.

  • Locked out of my iphone, please help

So I plugged my daughters iPhone into my iMac and restored my iPhones backup by mistake. The backup that was restored is very old and I have no idea what the passcode is. When I try to restore one of my daughter's backups i receive a message "Go to iCloud Settings on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone before restoring your iPhone." Obviously I can't access the phone to disable find my phone so i logged into icloud.com but the only device in there is my existing phone. So I am in the situation where I cannot turn off find my phone for my daughters phone and are locked out without being able to restore.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Force the phone into recovery mode, as described here, & restore it:

  • ITunes 90 day lock out on iMac - only one AppleID can use a Mac at any one time?

Just found out, the hard way, about Apple's patently ridiculous "90 Day Lockout" policy on iTunes (Match, Purchases download and pretty much ALL the useful features).
Apparently, at least according to Support - who feigned surprise that this was an issue - if you blow £1,200 on an iMac to be used by two people in your home and have paid Apple an extra £25 a head for iTunes Match, you're terribly gullible. And stupid. And a potential music thief.
The real problem is that Apple, probably in a bid to secure record label agreement to iTunes Match and in a vain attempt to curb unlawful music sharing, has decided that NO MORE THAN ONE APPLE ID can be associated with a machine ID at any one time, for iTunes purposes.
This is fine on iPhone, iPod Touch and even iPad. Those are hardware that only one person can use at a time - there is no "multi-user" capability.
Macs, though, are a different matter.  In Apple World we're all filthy rich and each member of a household is expected to own a separate Mac machine (iMac, MacBook Pro or Air) to be able to use the functionality and music they've paid for in iTunes and via Match.
If you're stupid or poor or just think a Mac per person in a household is consumerism gone mad, you are stuffed.
In our case we bought an iMac. Set up two separate and distinct User IDs and one of us set up iTunes and activated iTunes Match.
Next day the other went into their User account, set up iTunes and then activated iTunes Match. A very very vague message popped up alluding to "transferring an Apple ID to this machine" and referencing inability to use this AppleID on another machine for 90 days. That seemed OK. The AppleID had been associated on an old Compaq netbook for iTunes, so the assumption was that it was that association that was being transferred to the iMac.
    WRONG!
What had happened was that the second person to sign in to the iMac and set up their TOTALLY SEPERATE AppleID on a TOTALLY SEPERATE iTunes Match library and account had effectively locked out the first user from their iTunes account.
So, if you're a family with individual iTunes accounts and iTunes Match don't bother with Apple Mac products. For the cash you spend on one mac product that only one of you will be able to use iTunes on EVERY 90 DAYS, you'd be better off buying separate, higher spec Windo$e laptops to sync with.
Apple has really really fouled up on this.
Support initially justified this lock out policy as being to prevent Johnny Fileshare from zipping round to his mate's house, logging into iTunes with his AppleID on his mates PC or Mac and downloading his paid for iTunes library onto his mates Mac as a gift.
Just how likely such a random outburst of philanthropy at the expense of record labels would be is beyond me.
During a near two hour call with support (use the Call Me function - at least the call is free) eventually, after an escalation, the tech agreed that the 90 days AppleID  lock was pointless as Apple themselves publish details in their knowledge base on how to circumvent music sharing restrictions and combine iTunes libraries - even helpfully including details of how to put said combined iTunes library on a memory stick. Johnny Fileshare can then nip round his mates house and share his iTunes content with his mate until the cows come home.
Even worse, Apple even allow you to burn to CD a combined iTunes library up to FIVE TIMES!
But, when it comes to logging into your own iTunes account on a shared Mac? Forget it matey. You'll steal music and can't be trusted.
    Well FU too, Apple.
But wait! You may think you're OK because you weren't foolish enough to hand over £25 for iTunes Match...
BEWARE: THE 90 DAY LOCKOUT IS ACTIVATED THE SECOND A USER ON A MAC ACTIVATES EITHER:
    1. Automatic downloads, or
    2 iTunes Match
OR IF THEY HAVE THE TEMERITY TO:
    1. Check previous purchases
THIS RENDERS ITUNES AS A PRODUCT/SERVICE WORSE THAN USELESS ON SHARED MACS.
We have 82 days to wait for one of us to regain access to the library that cost us a fortune to build in iTunes.
1 Week old iMac is being boxed up & returned to Apple Store.
Two high spec non Apple  laptops being bought as a replacement. The change to be spent on petrol or pasties - which ever the UK  is running out of most...

Yes, I am having this problem because I have 2 Apple IDs/iTunes accounts.  Mind you, I don't want 2 accounts but Apple forced me to make a new apple ID when they started requiring email addresses as user ID.  This was the first big mistake that Apple made.  Their second mistake was not allowing people to simply merge these accounts.  Had they not made these mistakes initially, many people would still only have one Apple account/ID. Some bloke ought to lose his job over that.
However, I understand this isn't the same problem as having multiple household members using the same computer.  It seems that Apple could figure this all out by either authorizing multiple users at the time of purchase, or allowing a handful of users to download to one computer. After all, if I bought a hard copy of a music CD, I could certainly allow my son or daughter to listen to it or download it to their computer.  Next thing you know, I'll have to sign a release saying that I am the only person that uses my iPod.
I am also returning not just one but 2 brand new Mac computers ($4500 coming back from Apple to my wallet) because I am so fed up with the poor customer service response that Apple has given this problem.  Not only did they take a ton of my money for iTUnes songs, but then they restricted my access to those songs. I think it's criminal and I wouldn't be surprised if this issue ended up as a class action wrongdoing suit.  I have to admit I've considered talking to a lawyer about it myself.  I am so sick of large monopolizing companies thinking that they can treat their customers poorly and expect us to sit back and take it. The good news is that this is a free country and I can choose to throw my money at any old company I choose..........Toshiba here I come.

I am changing to iCloud on my iMac, MacBook Air and my iPhone. My iMac and MacBook both moved over to iCloud but my iPhone when I go to Settings and click on iCloud it shows my Mail setting turned Off. When I turn it on it wants me to create a new email address to turn on iCloud Mail. I already have to "me" accounts plus another email address and don't want to create another one. I don't understand why it's asking me to do this on my iPhone but didn't ask on my iMac or MacBook and is there a way around creating another @me.com email address?

    Hello Timmy790

  • ActiveSync mail/contacts/calendars removed after Active Directory account is locked out?

    Hey guys,
Wondering if anybody has seen an issue like this.  This is a new Exchange 2010 deployment (8+ CAS servers) and the devices are all iPhones/iPads running the latest version of iOS (7.1.2).  The CAS servers are behind a load-balancer.
Basically when a users' Active Directory account is Locked in AD (either manually or by entering the wrong password) their ActiveSync Contacts, Calendars and all Mail folders (except the Inbox strangely!) will be removed from the iOS device within a few hours.  So an account might get locked out at say 6pm, if left locked out by the next morning the ActiveSync account will still be setup on the device as normal, but everything is gone except the mail in the Inbox.  If a user has an iPad and iPhone both will be blanked.
The behaviour is similar to what is documented here - iOS: How to mitigate a full sync or reload of Exchange account data - however the Exchange servers are not issuing HTTP500 errors as we have captured logging during the window where the device blanks itself.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

which event ids are shown in the event viewer from the DCs? Or maybe locally also some errors are locked that give some more details.
If this happens it sounds personally for me that Java is the problem. Have you already opened a call at

  • HT201441 Can't set up iPhone as old iCloud account is locked out even though device removed!!!

My Mums iphone has been removed from its original iCloud account and a factory reset performed.
I want to connect it to a new iCloud account (for my Dad), but when setting it up, it asks for the original iCloud account.
When I enter the original account details in correctly, it says "Incorrect Apple ID, [email protected] cannot be used to unlock this iPhone."
I can still log into iCloud with the original account on my PC and under "find my phone" is says no devices are connected.
"Set up your iCloud account on an iPhone, .... to use Find My iPhone"
Of course, I can't do that as I'm in an endless loop of going nowhere, locked out of my own device.
I've tried using my wireless network and itunes with the same result.
HOW CAN I CONTINUE TO SET UP AND ACCESS MY PHONE???
I expect I'll have to make a special inconvenient trip into town to the Apple store. So much for user friendly!

from Apple's web site - I tried these first and then other combinations:
      • Server name: imap.mail.me.com      - also tried using the p03-   before that which was in my Mac's settings for this account, also tried using the p03- in the IMAP prefix field
      • SSL Required: Yes   - I also tried the 3 other available settings, including TLS and accept all for both SSL and TLS
      • Port: 993  (also tried TLS / 143)
      • Username: The name part of your iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker, not [email protected])  - I also tried using that with both @mac.com and @me.com as part of user name
      • Password: Your iCloud password
I could not get past this stage with the stock / default Android mail app.  However, Aqua Mail allows me to enter both incoming and outgoing server settings before connecting (which both fail).
SMTP information for the outgoing mail server
      • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
      • SSL Required: Yes - I also tried the 3 other available settings, including TLS and accept all for both SSL and TLS
      • Port: 587 (also tried SSL / 465)
      • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
      • Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, [email protected], not emilyparker) -  I also tried using that with both @mac.com and @me.com as part of user name
      • Password: Your iCloud password

  • HT201303 Stolen iPhone w/out an security password has locked me all my password protected account.

I've been waiting to re-activate my old cell (via Assurion Insurance/Verizon) as I expected there would be usage & I'd be responsible.  However, tomorrow I plan to notify the insurer for Verizon as no calls have appeared as charges.  Not "IT" savy, however; I suspect that whomever has my former cell; replaced my sims card & activated it under their personal #.  My basis for that contention is I regularly used a minimum of 7 e-mail accounts in addition to approximately 100+ miscellaneous password associated accounts and I am bounced & locked out of each & every one. However, yesterday & today I found two exceptions to accessing "iTunes" & iCloud, albeit I've yet to be able to use iCloud except to see several messages from former email accounts sending me multiple notifications that my email account passwords were changed.  Problem is I tried to respond regarding comprimised password & found that despite including that address as an alternate contact; the email bounced back stating something to the effect that since I'm not using the ios from whence same email address originated; messages cannot be sent? Any simple sequential steps anyone can suggest to retrieve all the data I've accumulated since 2001 when I switched to a Verizon Cell would be greatly appreciated.  FYI: Beware & exercise caution w/ respect to using security features; backup everything regularly...I didn't.  Now, I'm paying the price for it cuz my Calendar, approximately 35 folders, emails, contact info, applications, gps, etc. are gone...hopefully, I can figure out some backdoor means of retrieving them cuz FYI e-mail Accounts aren't responsive to either phone calls re:  this matter or responsive to emails requesting assistance. Anyone have any ideas; or perhaps found themselves in the same lock down? Thx, dasqm PS Formerly synced iPhone w/ either my MacBook 10.5.8 OSX or MacBook Pro Mountain Lion or Gateway 2000; however, the Town's water pressure was set too high & water leaked thru the ceiling frying them after my phone was stolen.  Therefore, no repository of old material aside from accessing iPhone data if even retrievable.  Just purchased an ASUS Windows 8 the day before yesterday, so there's nothing on any computers.

You wouldn't want to use a Panther Disc to try to change the PW or even to repair the HD.
It sounds like your HD is dead, bit...
OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-s and type in the following:
    /sbin/fsck -fy Enter
    /sbin/mount -uaw Enter
    rm /var/db/.applesetupdone Enter
    reboot Enter
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!! (if it works at all)
