Iphone Locking To No Bars But Still Having 3G

So, case of beer to anyone that can actually give me a solution to this - as its driving me nuts.
Had my Iphone 4 for over a year now. For as long as I can remember it sometimes, and randomly, drops to no bars signal. This of course means i can't make or receive phone calls or text messages. This remains at 0 bars until I reboot the phone, at which point the signal comes back normally.
This can happen anything from once a week to five times a day.
The other weird thing is, that although I have no bars, I keep 3G and can surf the internet and use imessage absoloutely fine during the problem, but I've left it for hours and it stays on no bars until i reboot.
If I go into carrier settings and toggle 4G off/on - for about a second one bar will light up, and then dissapear again. This happens on both activation and deactivation of 4g (although i'm only on 3g with T-Mobile)
I've had 3 replacement handsets from apple, who say the error logs are clean, although I've only ever managed to pop in on once when it was actually doing the problem, but as I didn't have an appointment they didn't want to check for errors and just made me do a full restore.
I have also had a replacement SIM card from T-Mobile.
To be honest I thought this was just me having bad luck and figured i'd put up with it till my upgrade.
However, 2 weeks ago I picked up a new contract with an iphone 5c for my other half...and within a day it was doing the same **** thing.
So naturally I figured it must be tmobile's problem, although my friend who works there says that it can't be AND heavy googling of the issue shows that this is actually worryingly common on various handsets on various networks all over the world.
Surely Apple hasn't fallen so far that a major problem like this has gone ignored for so long? I must be missing something?

Just to clarify - its not dropping to "searching" or "no network" like many posts I've read are.
Just no bars, T-Mobile 3G
Toggling airplane mode or celluar off doesn't fix it either :/ only a reboot.
Have also tried full restores aswell as network settings restores.

Try making a new Apple ID? I don't really understand what you mean.. Make a new apple ID, log in with that one and then when you are on your phone log out of it and THEN log in our old ID? If you still can't log in the old one then it's most probably a bug or something.. Anyway.. Good luck with your problem!!

You should take it right back to the Genius Bar. After they fix or replace it, make sure you can text, call and use all the functions before you leave the store.

This is a known issue with Apple. I can't sent iMessages either...It' doesn't matter how many times I power down my phone, delete messages or disconnect from wifi...Very frustrating.

Type unread in the search box and delete all of the messages that come up this will resolve the issue.

IPhone 4s keyboard shortcuts disappeared but still work ?

I use both french and English keyboards as I switch a lot. I've disabled auto-correction but not Spell check. I've created many useful keyboard shortcuts which now have disappeared from the shortcut list in the keyboard menu but they all still work when I type them in. I can add a new shortcut which then also works but the shortcut list still remains empty. Not the end of the world but still a weird glitch.

The same thing happened to me and the Genius bar did a reset yesterday. The problem appear fixed... Until today. Back to the Genius bar this afternoon. I'm not going to let them do another reset this time if that's the only thing they have to offer.
Trial 2:
The Apple store tried all different things without success, so they gave me a new iPhone. They restored everything back via iCloud onto the new phone. Checked the shortcuts--the problem still exists! Blank.
Now I'm supposed to go back for a full hour appt so they can manually install everything onto my phone from my saved laptop. I may not do that and just live without the shortcuts until an update is available.
They said they've never encountered this problem before, but will submit it as a case to Apple.
My suggestion is that everyone having this issue to report it to a Genius Bar and make sure they submit it to Apple. Hopefully then Apple will fix this glitch on the next software update.

IPhone 3G running 3.1.2 still having intermittent loss of data services

My wife's 3G is randomly indicating that she has no internet connection, so she can't get data and/or send SMS messages. Even though she's in a spot at work where it used to always work fine.
Her 3G has the latest 3.1.2 firmware and has gotten all of the updates from 2.0 to 2.1, all the way up to 3.1.2.
I think people that have the earlier 3G's and have gone through multiple updates seem to be having the most issues.
Let me know if anyone know of some way (ANY WAY) to fix this. Again, she has a 3G running 3.1.2 and has applied updates from 2.0 on up to 3.1.2...with instability issues showing up first with 3.0.
I personally have a 3G (just as old) and have gone through almost the same updates, BUT...I didn't update from 3.01 to 3.1. My 3G began getting squirley (Safari crashing with muliple tabs open and general lag doing text entries...stuff like that) after I updated to 3.01 (or was it 3.0?), so I held off doing any more updates until the coast seemed clear to do one. I'm glad I held off as the 3.1 updates made matters worse for my wife and many others.
3.1.2 still has issues. I'm sure the phone hardware is fine, but installing multiple updates over each other seems to create instabilities.

Here is my post when I first started having problems with the 3.1 update:

I get 5 bars but still need a MicroCell (which stopped working), any ideas?

OK, I get 5 bars without the Micro Cell BUT only about 20% of my incoming calls get through (the rest go straight to VM). Outgoing calls seem to be OK, but text messages will take about 10 minutes to come in. Obviously this is unacceptable so we decided to purchase a MicroCell a couple weeks ago and it started off working great. As soon as we were in our office all our iPhones would show "AT&T M-Cell" and incoming/outgoing/text all worked as you would hope.
All of a sudden (around the time of the iPhone 4.0.1 update) the phones in my office would not connect to the MicroCell. All the appropriate microcell lights are on (3G, GPS, Power and Ethernet). I turned the unit off/on, went to ATT.com/3gmicrocell and tried disconnecting the device and then re-registered it all to no avail.
The only way I can get the phones to utilize the MicroCell is by turning the phone off for a minute then turning it back on (or putting them into airplane mode for a minute and then taking them out again). I have to do this while 2 feet away from the Micro Cell otherwise it just jumps on the tower (which says 5 bars but doesnt work). If I leave the immediate area of the microcell and come back the phone will not connect again.

ATT must have been seeing all these posts. The unit all of a sudden started working for everyone!!! Guessing they pushed a sw update overnight.

My laptop with Windows 7 was infected. I have Norton and Anti spyware. I reset back to factory setting and am still having issues. When I type, dashes and other symbols appear. What else can I do?

If resetting the computer back to the original factory settings didn't resolve the issue, you can try reseating the keyboard connection from the motherboard. Simply just remove the connection and reconnect it and see if the makes any difference. I would only recommend this if you are out of warranty.
If your fine with doing this can you provide the model of the computer and I can provide the steps for you. Here is a document that will help you find that information.

Having trouble sync'ing. Receiving Overcapacity error on my 64GB iPhone 5. Backed up and restored but still having sync issues.

I have an iPHone 5 64GB with iTunes 11 installed on an 2 yr old HP laptop running Windows 7. I am having sync'ing issues. I am receiving an overcapacity error I have not seen before even though I can manually remove audiobooks I have previously loaded to get the overcapacity down below the available 64GB limit. I have removed most of them now and can get the sync to begin. Not sure if it will actually complete. But now I do not have but a relatively few audio books loaded. I have backed up and restored to see it that helps but am still getting the same overcapacity error. Seems whatever I had included was doubled in an "other" category. Also, in the recent upgrade to iTunes, it takes forever to sync when I change content. Sync'ing takes a lot longer than before. Has anyone else experienced similar performance issues.

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
email messages and attachments
Reminders
Calendar entries
Contacts
Text messages (*** this can take up a lot of space)
MMS messages and attachments
Genius data
Music cover art
Operating system settings
Safari cache
bookmarks
Game Center status
Music catalog
If you have a lot of text messages stored, that can make "Other" very large. Another problem area is corrupted files. When app and data files become corrupted, they may end up in "Other". To fix that, perform a restore from a recent backup. That prevents corrupt files from showing up.

Press and Hold the Home button then you will get the Voice Control Menu.
Choose Dial or Call then you can make call.

It is a feature.
You can disable it at Settings > General > Passcode > Voice Dial if you wish.

Disable iMessage in Settings > Messages:
Reset the iPhone’s Network Settings under Settings > General > Reset...
Then... Re-enable iMessage.

No signal bars but still receive 3g

hi I just bought a second hand iphone 4s and got my old sim card clipped to fit into the microsim tray however when I turn the phone on it displays o2 (my carrier) but I have no bars on my signal and cant make any calls or texts, however, I can still go on the internet using 3/Edge settings. Ive tried resetting network, restoring the fone and switching airplane mode on/off. The sim card isnt damaged because when i put it back into my iphone 3gs with a sim adapter it works fine.... any suggestions??/

I would follow these troubleshooting steps to see if that resolves the issue:
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
Restart your iPhone.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update. Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Restore the iPhone as new.
Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
