Iphone locking up after software update. "verifying iphone software"

This is the second time this problem has happened. I plugged a nearly fully charged iPhone into my computer. It asks if I want to download the newest software. I stupidly say yes, and it backs my iphone up, installs software but gets frozen on the screen that says "verifying iphone software" for hours (it's been 6 hours now and counting). Why does it do this every time? If I disconnect the iPhone, reboot and plug it back in, it tells me I must restore it to factory settings. Fine. Restore done, and again, stuck on "verifying iphone software". I cannot keep waiting for 3 days for an appointment at the Apple store everytime my iphone needs updating. Any suggestions for preventing this from happening again are welcome.

What about the NEW iphone Plug in piece, or the USB port of the computer?
There have been a few other reports of failure to charge, and most have
resolved themselves (mysteriously) after leaving it plugged in to computers
for a really long time, or after a hard reset.
I haven't seen any one post that a restore fixed this, so I wouldn't rush into that.

I just went to update mt iOS like everyone els does (doesnt everyone like to keep up to date) but after i wanted my full FIVE HOURS (not very please) my phone showed a logo telling me to connect to iTunes. If you are experiencing difficulties with the connection between your stereo and device, disconnect the device, and then power cycle the stereo and your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. When the Home screen reappears, reconnect your device. If you cannot power cycle the stereo, turn the car off and then back on to allow the stereo to power off.

Unfortunately on these days I'm in a country that Apple don't have any retail store here and for sake of time I prefer to fix it myself to DHL it to the nearest country to use its warranty. Thanks for the update and clarification. In researching the issue it seems that the 2003 error code may have something to do with the USB connection. I would use this section of one of the above articles:
Get help with iOS update and restore errors
If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you might not be able to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can try different equipment:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
Try a different computer.
Solve other issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you still see the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.

Related errors: 1, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer might have a hardware issue that stops the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Make sure that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

You contact the carrier it's locked to and see if they will unlock it for you. Activation problems are almost always due to the fact that the phone was hacked to unlock it instead of being legitimately unlocked.
Of course, this can also happen if you're trying to activate it without a SIM in it. You can not activate the phone without a SIM.

Not only can i not see the individual chaptes -- apparently like you and everyone else suffering through the "improved" iOS7 -- when my audiobook repeats a "file" within chapter, which it sometimes does, I cannot get "inside" the chapter and move forward to where I'm supposed to be.

I can no longer update apps on my iPhone 4s after the IOS 8 update. The IOS 8 update took a very long time to complete, maybe 12 hours, and afterwards, it worked but updating packages were very slow. Package updates have since been problematic and about 4 days ago, it stopped being able to update any packages. I click on them to update and they never make any progress. I have 2.8 Gbytes free and I keep deleting more and more packages, pictures, etc. It seems like, from the amount of stuff that I have deleted, I should have more than 2.8 Gbytes free.
Is anyone else having this kind of problem?

16GB iPhone4: Go to Settings, scroll down to iTunes & App Stores and touch. At the top of the next page it shows: Apple ID. Touch this. Select Sign Out. Your Apple ID will go away. Re-enter Apple ID and password. Try App Store again.
Other solutions were to go to Settings:General:Date&Time and turn off auto-update, then change date to next year. This didn't work for me, nor a lot of other users on the forums. It took reading a lot of threads to find the log-out, log-in solution. Even on the official Apple Website all I saw was: Make sure your connection is working, battery is charged, desktop is plugged in when you try to sync. OK I exaggerate, but with all the users posting this problem, you'd think they'd post their solutions when they work with a Tech Help call.

Restart iPhone: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart.

I'm assuming you mean you don't have your camera application (which is not saved on any backup anyway).
One way to find it is to get to your home screen, swipe the screen from right to left, and type "Camera" in the search field. Camera is a core Apple app and cannot be deleted, so it must be there somewhere.
An alternate approach is to do Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout

Hi there, could someone help me here please - I can't open the iTune store after I updated my iphone 4 to iOS 7. The problem occurred about 5 days later after the upgrade. There are no error messages. As I tap on the icon it opens just for a fraction of a moment and then goes off and back to the main screen. Other apps are working just fine. I tried following the troubleshooting steps as suggested by apple support, but that didn't help unfortunately...
