IPhone Locks when updating software

I was prompted to download a newer version of the software for my iPhone. I got an error message in itunes when downloading the software and my iPhone is currently locked up as a result of this error. The iPhone will not stay on and the only way I can get it to turn on is to reset it. When I reset it, it stays on for a couple of seconds and only displays the graphic for the connection and the iTunes image...nothing works.

Sounds like a hardware issue. I would contact Apple and get it serviced.

i was given a first generation iPhone by my aunt in America. i live in New Zealand and my aunt said that she was told that i could use my phone in New Zealand with an NZ sim card. it worked for the first few hours but when i tried to update it it locked its self, and i could only make emergency calls... i managed to take it into a cell phone store and they fixed the problem, but did not tell me that i could not update it, so the next week i tried again... with the same result. again, i got it fixed...
i just want to see if there was any way to get my phone updated without it locking... so if any one has any insight, please tell me... im still using version 1.1.4!!! it is so annoying!!!

i buy my iphone in Indonesia. and the seller says that it was the factory unlock so it's safe for me to use the iphone with different kind of sim card. and it's works.. i can use it with my old sim card. but apparently the problems come when i want to update my iphone. and the first time i updated my iphone suddenly my iphone unlocked and i cannot do anything except emergency calls. after i bring it to the seller, he said that the problem is with the update thing because he said that the update isn't perfect enough to be downloaded. so after i found out that there is newest update so i try again but the same problem come to me. now my iphone locked again. i really confused while the seller said that it's factory unlocked and it's safe to change with any sim card but from other post i read that it's because the iphone hasn't unlocked yet.
help me to find out..

Since I updated my software on my iPhone 4 to ios7 when i message people with iPhone's it shows my email instead of my phone number. I can't even choose my number it's greyed out and I can't click on it!!! Pleaseee help me!!!

Try these steps as needed:
1. Reset phone (no data loss): press both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
3. Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
4. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

the store dosnt unlock the phones ,they buy and sell refurbished phones. when I got THE phone the ios on it was 4.1.2. . It seems they have not used this phone .I called apple techincal suppor.the said it has hardware problem !

It's a bad idea. It *ought* to recover OK, but there are too many cases where it hasn't to be safe assuming that it will.
If, as Changren Yong says, you have a good backup, you always have the safety net of a restore, but it's a silly thing to do,
My advice when doing software updates is to download separately then update (you're always offered an option to download only). You can do what you like during the download, which is always the ling part of the process for me. The update usually (for me) only takes about 5 minutes.
One further point - in case you didn't know, you can initiate a backup by right-clicking the phone in iTunes and choosing Backup from the drop-down. That should always be part of your update process

Your friend did an unofficial unlock and it has now locked back to the original cell carrier. You need to call AppleCare, give them the model and serial number of the iPhone and find out which cell carrier it is locked to. Then contact that cell carrier and see what the process is to officially unlock the iPhone and if you qualify.

Thanks for reply, but problem is diffrent I got updated my device via I tune(IPSW 5.01) before that, it was working well after upgreade 4.1 to 5.01 I am getting problem. No cydia no signal!

Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)

Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

I am confused as to how a download of DTM would cause this. Downloading DTM to your PC does nothing but download an installation file to your PC. You must launch that installation file in order for anything else to happen...and then do even more in order to cause what you have described. So I am confused as to exactly what you have done.
In any event, if your BB has been somehow wiped clean, then the only way to get your data back is if you already have previously taken a backup. If you have never done that, then there is no hope.

Is there a way to restore iphone 4S without updating software?

was just given an iPhone4S previously used from a former employee that had the home screen locked. i am attempting the process of recovery mode but i'm prompted to update software first. as itunes is updating the software on my phone it stops and prompts me for the passcode that i don't have. is there a way to bypass this update and go straight to the wiping of the phone?

Put the iPhone in Recovery mode http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808?viewlocale=de_de and restore it as new. It is going to update the software to iOS 6.1.3.
