Iphone mail (ios6) replies from default account instead of alias recipient

Hi.
Since upgrading to ios6, iphone mail replies from my default account instead of the alias address that the email was originally sent to.
Prior to this upgrade, iphone mail would reply to the address that the email was sent to.
All alias addresses are present, and i can change teh sent from address to the alias manually.
If i reply to the same email from icloud.com, the email is sent from the alias address it was sent to, not the default account.
I tried turning mail off and back on, but the problem remains.
Please let me know if there is a new setting i have to look for, or if anyone else has solved this problem.
Thanks.

I have a similar problem, and was about to start a discussion on it when I saw your post.  I'm assuming that you're using iCloud, like me.
Things changed in iOS 6 regarding Mail settings, but I still think the behaviour you and I are seeing should be considered a bug.  Under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > iCloud > Account > Mail, you should see that there's a new setting that allows you to:
Choose a default address to use when sending from your iCloud account.
To confirm that you and I are experiencing the same problem, can I ask you to confirm that the default address chosen here is the default address that is being erroneously used as the "From:" address when replying to emails sent to aliases? If it is, you should probably make doubly sure that this setting is the cause of the behaviour you're seeing by changing it to one of the aliases you've created, and seeing whether this becomes the "From:" address for new replies.
Please post back with the results of this, and we can go from there.  If you're seeing this behaviour too I think I'll report it as a bug to Apple.

  • When sending email Apple Mail is sending from both accounts instead of only the one I send it from

I have 2 mail accounts, one for me and one for my wife. When I now send mail it is being sent from both accounts instead of just the one it was sent from. How do I stop this and why is it happening? Nothing new has occurred and all updatees are current.

Both accounts are Gmail accounts too. FYI

  • All mail being sent from default account!!!!

Hello. I have four (4) email accounts linked to my iPhone. Whenever I send a message from any account, it sends it from the default account. Is there a way to fix this?
I'll try to explain in better like this ...
    - My default account is #1 of 4
    - I want to send a message from account #2
    - It sends find, but it sends it from account #1, not #2
    - So, when someone replies to my message, it gets sent to account #1, not #2 like it should.
I have talked to a few of my friends that have iPhones and they said theirs didn't do that, but they weren't sure how to fix it. Can anyone please help me!
    Thanks!

    jvnatale,
How are you sending messages? If you are sending a website link or a picture, it will use your default email address. If you want to send a message from a particular email, you need to go into Mail and into the account you want to send from before tapping on the new message icon. That way the iPhone knows you want to send from that account.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Outgoing mail addresses changed from default account to another account

I have Apple Mail set up to send mail from AT&T account. "Use only this account" is checked in Mail preferences for the AT&T account. Messages are addressed with the AT&T address as the sending address. However, mail seems to be going out with my Gmail address, e.g., mail sent to a listserv from the AT&T account with the AT&T address as the sending address are bounced by as unauthorized with the Gmail address as the sending address. I notice that responses to messages sent to individuals are being sent to my Gmail address also.
Anyone have any clues as to what's going on?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
In that case if you open the Preferences to the Accounts Pane and click on the STMP server item choose the Edit option at the Bottom.
Chose what should be the AT&T one and check the details it has are for the AT&T server.
In one case I deliberately use a different outgoing Server.
That's not to say though that the details of your Server and it's name match what you think.

  • IPhone Only Sends Mail From Default Account After 1.1.1 Update

I just noticed that no matter which account I use to send an email in the iPhone mail app, the email is sent from my default account. I have Yahoo, Gmail, and .Mac accounts, and they all function properly (i.e, they can all send and receive, view folders, etc.) When I change the default account to any of these accounts, all of my mail is sent from that account--including replies and forwards to messages in a non-default account. I don't think this occurred before the 1.1.1 update, but it's possible I never noticed it until now.
As you can imagine, changing the default account each time I need to send an email from a different account is frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed the same issue today, it was not like that before. I tested it prior to the update. I have yet to find a way around this besides switching the default account.

  • Apple Mail: Email not sending from default account

Note: Default email send worked fine in Mavericks. The issues seems to be new in Yosemite.
I have 3 emails accounts: Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo. In that order. They are placed in that order in the Accounts section of Apple Mail. They are also placed in that order in the mailbox listing under Inbox in mail.
When creating a new email, the top account, Exchange, is rarely chosen as default. Either Gmail or Yahoo are chosen...and occasionally Exchange. I send 90% of my mail from the Exchange SMTP server; now forced to manually change the outbound Account within the mail message itself almost every time.
Again, this is a brand new issue in Yosemite where it doesn't appear to recognize the default account to send email from in Mail.
    Anybody else seeing this?

Hi Will, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Tough to tell what you've tried, is this one you've tried...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • New created contacts in iPhone are stored in MS Exchange account instead of iCloud account

Using iPhone with iCloud accounts, and MS Exchange account ( with contact sync ON )
When create a new contact in the phonebook, the created contact are saved in Exchange account instead of Apple iCloud account
I do not wanna turn off the contact sync in Exchange account because this will make me unable to search in mailing list stored in the server.
This happened when you create new contact using "Log" screen  (i.e. create a contact from a previous dailed number )
I just wanna make Apple iCloud account the default account for new contacts
    Any idea how ?
    Thanks

You're welcome.  If your exchange contact list is fairly static, I can give you instructions for how to copy them to your iCloud account if your interested.  This would allow you to disable contact syncing with exchange, eliminating this issue.  If you want to do this, just reply back.

  • Mails are sent from wron account

    Hi,
My iPad is set up with two email accounts (both from Google; one Gmail and one Google Apps). When I send mail, the from address is always the same no matter which account I set as default. The compose screen shows the correct account but the mail is still sent from a specific account.
This is not confined to Mail; it also happens when sharing stuff from Safari, Photos (which is Mail at the end of the day).
I don't have this problem on my iPhone which uses the same accounts and Apple ID.
For what it's worth: The iPad is only a few weeks old and was restored from an iCloud backup.

Well, it doesn't use the standard account. It uses the same account no matter what I set as standard account. Also, when sending mail, the from address is set to the address I wish to use, but it still ends up as sent from the other account.
I just tested sending from Mail again a few times. Mails are sent from the wrong account no matter what I do. Even if I open the mailbox of the account I want to use, mails are still sent from the other account.
I was wondering if it could have anything to do with SMTP and both accounts being hosted by Google. I checked the SMTP settings for both accounts and they are set up to use distinctive SMTP settings. No logins are shared or anything.

  • OS X Mail - Always reply from the account mail was receive by.

    I have three email accounts:  A, B, and C.
Suppose I get email addressed to account  A.
When I reply to that email, I obviously want to send the reply from the same account, namely A.
However Mail chooses to reply to mail sent to A  from account B, instead, causing great confusion to the sender, who is now communicating with two different accounts.  Is there any situation where replying from an account other than the account recieving account makes sense?
I'd like to configure Mail to always reply from the account from which the mail was received.  Obviously this is possible and I can't imaging it's not the default behavior but I can't seem to figure out how.
    Any help would appreciated,
    Faz

I do leave the messages in my inbox and have "Send from account of selected mailbox" selected but sometimes that doesn't happen...
I just looked at a message I replied with from a few days ago.  The original message was sent to account A and the signiture on the reply is from account A but the message was actually sent from account B. This makes no sense, and it seems to be random.
I must have misconfigure something, I'll dig through the account settings.

  • Email always from default account no matter which account I select

First let me say that I have an iPhone 4 using version 4.3.5 (8L1) of the iOS.
My issue is that when I compose or reply to an email through Mail it always sends from my default email, in this case Gmail, no matter which account I select in the From: field. Even when I compose an email from the Inbox of a particular account it sends from the default account.
I first noticed this today, which it has never done before. My wife's iPhone works fine.
I've tried reseting the phone through iTunes then restoring from a backup, but it is still happening.
I really don't want to have to change my settings every time I reply or compose an email.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is very frustrating.
    Thanks,

Sounds like something is corrupted, and if so then re-loading your backup won't solve the problem. That means restoring again, but this time without loading a backup (i.e. set it up as a new phone ... meaning you'll have to re-do all your settings, preferences, and account set-ups, as well as re-load all the media). Not fun, but sometimes that's the only way to "exorcise" such demons.

  • Mail Always Opens to Default Account

Whenever I open the mail application, it opens to the inbox of my default account and not the main screen showing all inboxes.  While this may not seem like a big deal, it does create an extra step in that I have to go back one screen to get to "All Inboxes."
I've checked the settings and am not sure how to eliminate this issue.  I am running iOS5 on the iPhone 4S.
    Thanks in advance.

Exact same problem here. iPhone 4S with ios5. Always opens to top email accoutn in list, not default account, and not "All Inboxes" which would be preferred. Have seen a few suggestions but no solutions. Anyone?

  • IPhone cannot download messages from IMAP account.

I have a weird problem with one of my IMAP mail accounts. Everything works fine in Mail on my Mac but on iPhone I cannot see any messages from that account. It's showing how much message I have, but cannot download any of them... I can see all IMAP folders, can send new messages, but I cannot see nothing Does anybody have same problem?

I have expeirenced a couple of problems in setting up my email accounts.
One thing that seems to work, when an email account freezes on my iphone, is to turn on teh iphone (hold and keep down the button at right hand top) and then slide to confirm on screen.
Than when you switch back on it frees up the email account and works fine.
Dont ask me why, but this was also advice from apple and also hotmail help.

  • Mac Mail not sending from correct account.

I constantly use Mail to send and receive emails on my MacBook.
On it I have three email 'accounts' - my me.com address (for formal emails to work, banks etc.), my "junk" address (for spam, gaming etc.) and my "home" address (for personal emails and everything else).
When typing an email, if I choose to send it from a different account than the one I originally selected, I can just change it in the 'From' pop-down menu (under the 'To', 'Cc', 'Bcc' and 'Subject' fields).
Recently though, for some reason when I want to send an email from my "home" address, it sends it from my "junk"one instead, even if I am sending it 'From' my "home" address.
It still has my "home" address' signature, and not every time it does send from my "junk" one instead - rather it seems to send from both as it feels up to.
This bothers me quite a bit, especially when I send an important email using my "home" address but it sends from my "junk" - both confusing and annoying me and the recipients.
This only just started happening to me this past week. Does anyone else have the same issue, and any help would be greatly appreciated

Some mail servers such as gmail will change the address when sending from one account through another account's server.
Go into Mail's preferences under Accounts. Highlight each account and make sure the correct outgoing server is listed for that account with the correct user name and password. Each account should have their own. Check the box to use only that server with that account. Do this for all accounts.
If you don't check the box and the server fails, it will move on to the next one in the list. Then you will get the address from that server even though you're sending from a different account.
If the server does fail, you will get a selection box to try again or select another server.

  • Getting "Error in sieve filter" message with each incoming mail and cannot recieve or send mail to or from iCloud account apart from Apple emails!! Please help!

Since approx 7am GMT I've been getting "Error in sieve filter" message with each incoming mail, worse though, since about 12 noon I cannot recieve or send mail to or from my iCloud account apart from I've been getting  emails from Apple (ie I've just received a welcome one from Apple Support Communities...)!! I've had this account for years, never had a problem - it can't be the OSX Mail server because the problem is the same when I log directly into iCloud. I've tried sending emails from my Hotmail account to my iCloud account (a .mac) and just get undeliverable messages back. I'm really in the s**t now at work. : (  I just set up a Smart TV yesterday with a wireless dongle - that's the only thing I've done out of the ordinary. I've spoken to Sky who are my ISP and they say all's fine with them (although the router kept kicking my off the internet this morning which was strange...). Router seems fine now though.  I'm really hoping someone here can help!!
    Many thanks!!

Do you think once Apple sort this out I'll get my missing emails back?

  • Maill always send from default account when using multiple accounts

I have a gmail account as my default account. I also have a work imap account.
When sending an email from my work account, it initially fails to send. On making it retry, the message is sent.
The message ends up in the recipient's mailbox as having been sent from my default gmail address, and having no content.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

I should add that I have set the smtp server for my work email to only use my work smtp server, and not fall back to gmail.
