IPhone microphone

My microphone only works on facetime, when someone just calls me, it doesn't work, the person who calls me can't hear me.
If I put him on speakerphone or use headsets, it doesn't work either. But when someone facetimes me, my microphone does work.
With and without headsets. I don't get why it is like that, what can I do about this?

Thanks Tamara. Done all that but the issue worsens when I sync with my Landcruiser and that; despite an excellent signal etc; the problems worsens even further. It is not a Toyota problem because I also use a Nokia 9500 and the issue doesn't arise.

  • HT203792 Are there specific settings for the iphone microphone?

I often sound muffled to others when using my iPhone.  I understand that there are specific settings on the iphone to cover or mask background noise.  Is it possible that I have this setting on and that is why I often sound muffled when holding the iphone between my ear and shoulder and not speaking directly into the microphone?

    Hey there hondafan53,
It sounds like your microphone makes you sound muffled to people you talk to on the phone. For that issue, I would use the troubleshooting in the following article:
If your voice is too faint or sounds unclear using iPhone, or iPod touch
    Test the microphone
To find out if there is an issue with the microphone itself—and not the app you're using or your cellular connection—test the microphone with the built-in Voice Memos app. Speak into the microphone and then play back the recording. You should be able to hear your voice clearly.
    Fix common issues
Follow these steps, testing after each with Voice Memos.
Unplug anything plugged into the headset jack.
If you're on a call and holding your phone next to your ear, speak into the microphone and make sure you don't block it with your fingers or shoulder.
If you're using a screen protector or case that covers the microphone, remove it. Clear any debris from the microphones.
    Restart your device.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If you've tried these steps and people still can't hear you well on calls, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Is there an easy way to switch iPhone microphone input from headphones to Bluetooth and back?

When driving I plug my iPhone into the car stereo AUX jack with a cable to listen to music. To receive or make phone calls, or to use Siri, I use a Bluetooth (Jawbone) headset.
If I'm playing music out the headphone jack and then answer a call, when the call ends the music starts playing again through the Bluetooth headset, so I have to switch it back to headphones. Theoretically no big deal, since there's the little airplay icon at bottom right in most music apps. Still, I really wish it would revert to playing through the headphone jacks and I didn't have to do anything. Is that possible?
But it gets more annoying. Let's say I decide to use Siri and want to use the bluetooth. This is fine IF I plugged the headphones in before connecting Bluetooth, but for some reason it often seems to happen that it defaults to the headphone jack, especially if I've been messing with it a bit -- say I was listening to music, then received a call, then hung up, so now music plays through Bluetooth, so I hit the icon to switch music back to headphones, though sometimes this doesn't work and I have to unplug and replug in the headphones. But now usually if I want to use Siri, and I hold down the iPhone home button, or even if I hold down the jawbone button, it will often take input still from headphones.
I can't go into all the variations of this that happen, but almost every car ride there's a pain about this -- someone calls but even though I answer through my headset, the input is still from the headphone jack, and i have to scramble to get the call going through Bluetooth again. Or I have to unplug then replug the headphones after Siri use. None of this even covers something other, like dictating text or making a voice memo, something else that need simply but DOESN'T have an AirPlay-style button on bottom right like the music apps do. Really a pain.
Really wish there were some easy switch to toggle the input.
And again, really wish the music would just go back to playing where to was playing from (headphones) instead of making me switch it either via a button or through unplugging/replugging headphones.
    Any solution to this?
    Thanks.

Sometimes you turn off your Bluetooth and then back on and it doesn't reconnect with your phone unless you go into the menu. Either way doesn't help much if someone calls you while you're driving and you realize your iPhone is stuck on headphone input.

  • Evening folks...looking for some help about my iphone microphone

Evening folks....looking for some help.....I have a 3G Iphone and when I phone people they cannot hear me properly...sound like I am underwater....
Any ideas or suggestions gratelfully accepted..

I thought that is what the big deal was that people did not know until they opened the box and started using the iPhone 5, that it not only worked with one carrier but several carriers.  I did not say it will work with any carrier at one time.  I was trying to find out the reason for this and why people were so surprised that the iPhone 5 had this function and the reason for it.  As stated in my post, is it there so that after your contract is up and you want to go to another carrier you do not have to purchase a new iPhone, you  cna purchase a SIM card that works with your new carrier.
The Otterbox Defender has a tendency to let too much dirt, dust, etc. in the cracks on the case. At least this has been my expereince.  I was thinking something more along some of the really durable cases at BallisticCaseCo.com
As far as the iPhone 5 having issues, I have heard that there were more than usual with the first couple of manufactured batches that were shipped.  For example the Map App by Apple, the scratches on the backside of hundreds of iPhones, etc.  I am hoping these will get to be less and less, but with the recent riot at the one plant in China where the iPhone 5 is assembled is supposed to increase the waiting time.

  • IPhone Microphone Question

    Hi
Can anybody tell me if the new iPhone4 is better as a phone than previous versions. I have a 3GS and a 3G before that and neither of them are/were that good as a phone.
When I talk to people (especially using speak phone)I end up having to shout to make myself heard, which is a tad embarassing.
It's become a regular thing for people to say "get a new phone I cant hear you" or "call me back on a landline or another phone"
I get the same problem using Bluetooth as well and I have 3 Bluetooth headsets none of which seem to be much better than the other.
I've lived with this pureley because the additinoal functionality out weighs the problems, but it is getting really frustrating.
Anyway, if anyone has any constructive thoughts or feedback that would be good before I confirm my iPhone4 order
    Thanks
    Andy

I was one of the folks who got my 4 in the day before release because I pre-ordered from AT&T on the 15th. Worked flawlessly until 2 days ago when I could no longer hear anything from the ear speaker - it was out. Foolishly took it to the AT&T store where I ordered it, they sent me to the Apple store in Tulsa, OK. No appointment at the Genius Bar but they worked me in after about 20-30 minutes, then replaced it, no problem. Only had to replace my ZAAG clear screen protector - $5. No big deal.
The next day, about 6:30 pm, my wife calls me and after a moment, says she cannot hear me, I switch to speaker and she can. Off speaker, she says she sometimes hears a muted voice like in a tunnel with a lot of static or nothing at all. So I call a couple of other numbers to make sure it's not her phone, and all of them report the same thing.
Back to the Apple store again (a 45 minute drive each way for me) and I get there about 8 pm. First thing the guy at the Genius Bar tells me is that I should have made an appointment. Hello McFly! I just found out about my little problem a little over an hour ago, sorry I wasn't considerate enough to schedule in a second equipment failure on your schedule! Ultimately, they work me in. The employee calls my phone on their landline, and it sounds just fine! What the frak?! He tells me that it must be some kind of network issue - which didn't make sense because it works fine on speaker but not off speaker, but it seems to be working now so I say thanks and leave.
However, being paranoid, I call my wife once I am outside the mall but before driving home, and she says she still cannot hear me unless I'm on speaker, so I call a couple of other different people and they report the exact same thing. So I call my wife back and speak with her on the speaker and walk back into the Apple store and literally once I cross the threshold of the store, she can hear me off speaker again. I walk out, and she cannot hear me.
So, I go back to the Genius Bar... and tell the guy there what's happening and they bring out another guy who tells me that he's heard NOTHING about any network problems and that he would replace the replacement phone.
    But -
They don't have any replacement phones! The other guy says, well, not exactly, what about the retail phones? The first guy shoots him a look like "you weren't supposed to say that" so I ask about it. Apparently, according to them, they have 2 categories of inventory, retail and replacement. The retail phones are for folks who come in and buy one, the replacements are for folks who have had trouble, but so sorry, "the system" doesn't allow for a retail phone to be used as a replacement, and since you ordered your initial phone through AT&T we cannot help you today, but the day after tomorrow we'll have more replacement phones available.
At this point, I let them know how unacceptable the entire situation has become, and they let me speak to a manager who was as surly as I was becoming (GREAT customer service skills there Apple Store in Tulsa!) who was so helpful as to suggest I could drive another 1.5 hours to go to the Apple Store in Oklahoma City to see if they had any inventory!
So basically, nothing could be done at this point, though they offered me a Free case for my trouble (2 failed phones in 48 hours with two 1.5 hour trips plus another hour or so in the store with another trip coming up tomorrow to pick up another phone). I told them I'd just like a phone that works and would last more than a day.
So, in short, tomorrow I'll likely have an operational phone and that will be about the end of it (other than having to replace the ZAAG screen yet again for another 5 bucks), but I come away from the experience with several take home messages...
    1) 2 phone failures? Quality control issue? Especially since they were out of the "replacement" phones but had "retail" phones available. I must not be the only one with issues.
    2) If Apple can make iPads, iPhones, Macs, and a plethora of software, how is it that Apple cannot make an inventory control system that would allow a phone to be taken from the retail to the replacement category? I think the issue was one of two things, neither of which puts Apple in the best light.
    a) The folks at the store were choosing to further inconvenience me
    or (and more likely)
    b) It's a lot more important for Apple to be able to sell a new phone in the store for $600 than it is for them to take care of a customer who has already paid the $300 upgrade for a subsidized phone through AT&T.
I come away from the whole experience disappointed with Apple and I hate to say that because my iPods and my 3G phone have been wonderful devices and I really like the 4 and don't really want to go to another phone. In fact, I have a couple of colleagues (I'm a doctor) who have ordered 4s based on what I have shown them and told them about the iPhones in general and the 4 in particular. I can accept that when you make millions of phones a few bad ones will get though the QA process, but I do feel like I should not have been sent from the store yesterday without a replacement when there were phones in the storeroom mere feet away from where I was standing. Very poor form, and something I'll remember when looking to buy new products in the future.
Apple tries to cultivate this image of being different from the PC guys who treat you with measured indifference (though I have been treated very well by the folks at Sager), but this experience has been discordant with that image they portray and it could have been avoided.
If I felt that there was anyone at Apple who would genuinely care, I'd bother to send an e-mail, but right now, I really don't think that there would be a point.
Update (7/5): Called the Apple Store since they hadn't contacted me as they said they were going to. Found out that (surprise surprise!) no shipments of replacement phones had come in because of the holiday. Maybe tomorrow the issue will finally be resolved....

    Verizon iPhone 4

    Hello everyone,
I just found this topic which seems to be related to my problem.
Firstly, I do not own an iPhone 4 like you but a 3Gs (doesn't really matter I guess).
I also bought an adapter from kvconnection : http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-mic-a22.htm
My wish is to make phone calls using a microphone connected to my computer. I have some kind of a home-studio, and I would like to build a dock on which I could plug my iPhone, with the upper jack connected to my soundcard, on which my mic or my computer sound comes.
In simpler terms, I'm trying to use an external audio source than my iphone microphone during calls. But this adapter i bought doesn't seem to work.
Have you guys a piece of advice or any solution ? Maybe just some compassion sharing the same problem =)
Good holidays to all of you!

  • How to record on iPhone 4 with external microphone?

I got a GoPro for christmas and my main intentions were to use it with my car. In this case, sound is very important and unfortunately, the GoPro does not record too good of audio.
My question is: What steps will I have to take to utilize an external mic with my iPhone and more importantly record it? I have looked on the app store for apps, but I am afraid that it wont record or recognize the sound coming from the external mic. I am wary of "voice recorders" because I know some try to implement technology such as noise cancellation that would skew my end product. I just want raw sound.
Additionaly, what adapters if any will be required?
    Thank you in advance.
