IPhone MMS on other GSM carriers

Since the iPhone 4 can now be bought unlocked and carrier free in the US, will Apple provide a way to set up MMS on the iPhone?  Currently, the only way to get MMS working is through jailbreaking and I do not wish to do that.  The phone recognized my SIM right away and was connected to data automatically.  Its just when I try and receive an MMS, the error "media content not included due to picture res or msg size restriction".  An Apple rep has told me that since T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, it will be supported.

Thank you, but I disagree since this feature can be made to work on Jailbroken iPhones.
Then jailbreak it and deal with the consequences.  T-Mobile in the U.S. is not a supported carrier. Just because you can do something on a jailbroken phone, doesn't mean it's going to be supported on a carrier that is KNOWN not to work well with the iPhone.

  • Can not activate iPhone 4 with other GSM carriers, the iPhone was bought in Apple Store in Dec'2010

Hi, I bought one iPhone in Dec, 2010 in Palo Alto Apple Store and tried to use it in Asia, but failed. The iPhone cannot activate the SIM card. Any ideas? The iPhone was bought at $599 for 16G version, so I assume it is unlocked version already? Thanks a lot in advance!

Apple didn't start selling unlocked iPhones in the US until June of 2011. Your phone will still be locked to AT&T. AT&T does not provide unlocking.

  • Is it possible to change your cdma iphone 5 to a gsm carrier, and then back to your previous cdma carrier?

I'm using StraightTalk right now and am wanting to try out H20. I know my iphone 5 is gsm unlocked so the switch to the gsm H20 Network should be simple enough. I'm wondering though if for some reason I don't find H20 a good option can I switch back to StraightTalk on my CDMA network.

If you have a CDMA iPhone 5 (in the USA, model A1429), and the GSM slot is truly unlocked (not just unlocked for international use) then you can use it with a GSM network.  You should be able to go back to the same CDMA network it was sold for - in other words, you cannot change to a different CDMA carrier as the CDMA carrier is permanently locked in firmware and cannot be altered.
But make sure the GSM SIM slot is truly unlocked.  For example a USA Sprint iPhone 5 could have the GSM SIM slot unlocked for international use, but it would not accept a SIM card for any GSM carrier in the USA, only for overseas carriers.  I'm not sure what Verizon's policy was with iPhone 5 phones (with the new iPhone 5s or 5c, Verizon phones are sold with no lock of any kind on the GSM SIM slot).

  • HT4528 I have an iPhone 4S and currently my carrier is AT&T, but I'm switching to Verizon.  Do I have to buy a new iPhone?

I have an iPhone 4S and currently my carrier is AT&T, but I'm switching to Verizon.  Do I have to buy a new iPhone?

Verizon, like virtually all CDMA carriers will not activate a device on their network that was not sold for use on their network.
To activate an iPhone on Verizon it must be purchased either directly from Verizon or from Apple (or an authorized reseller) for use on Verizons network.
On AT&T and all other GSM carrier iPhones (including Unlocked iPhones) the CDMA antenna is disabled.

  • Do I get full conference call management options on iPhone 6 model A1549 if using it with GSM carriers?

I have iPhone 6 model A1549, bought from and currently using with Verizon. You all must be aware that we can use the same phone for GSM carriers like at&t as well. Now we all know that some of the features related to conference calling are not available on CDMA carriers, like we cant have more than 2 callers, and we can't manage conference calls by making the conversation with one party private for some time and again switching back to conference mode, disconnecting a particular party instead of having to end the entire call etc. reference link- iPhone: Understanding phone features - Apple Support These features are available on GSM models and carriers, I just wanted to ask if I use a GSM SIM from a GSM carrier on this model, do I get these additional conference call management options or I am restricted to Verizon like experience while being on at&t (and while using the at&t SIM in this model)

Yes, I am dealing with this right now on at&t with a 6 plus. I've been down the same road as you. I got it to work with a windows phone yesterday but not my 6 plus when I switched back to the iPhone. My wifes 6 works fine. I believe it is an at&t issue and not an 8.3 issue. After dealing through several levels of support at at&t, they are telling me it has to do with their transition to hd voice. Some people are having this issue because they are updating their system and some peoples phone profile, on phones that have hd voice capabilities, are not getting added to their line and call forwarding will not work without it. I have a trouble ticket open to their engineering dept and they promise it will work for me on or before the 24th of april. Engineering has to build my phones profile so call forwarding will work with my iPhone.
This is frustrating because like you, I need to forward my calls because I have no signal in my office and need to forward to another phone so I can get my calls. If at&t would quit dragging their feet and enable wifi calling, this wouldn't be an issue for me. I would suggest you put more pressure on at&t and escalate this until it gets resolved. Or put your sim in a phone that does not have hd voice capability and see if it works then.
Good luck. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will be fixed for me on or before the 24th. We'll see.
EDIT: I see you did put it in another phone and it worked. That backs up that the issue is at&t and their hd voice upgrades. They had no explanation as to why some work and some don't, but have them make sure a profile for your phone is on the line. If not, they'll need to build one for the phone so that it''l work. At least that's the story for now. Like I said, I'll know more in a day or two.

  • IPhone 4 CDMA to GSM Non-US Carrier

Can a Sprint CDMA iPhone 4 when unlocked be used on the Bahamas' (or any international) GSM Network? If so, what if has a bad ESN?

Is the Verizon iphone5 unlocked even for domestic GSM carriers?
I've read about how people getting their Verizon iphone4S unlocked for foreign GSM carriers, but after they popped US based GSM carriers' SIM into the iphone4S, still can't get SIM recognized.
Has this domestic GSM carrier lock been discontinued on the Verizon iphone5?
But even if there is no more carrier lock for domestic GSM carriers, the LTE antenna on the Verizon iphone5 A1429, meant for LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25, isn't going to work for at&t and Tmobile (LTE bands 4,17), right?

  • I am from myanmar and I would like to order iphone 5s contract free from T-mobile . is it compatible with my local GSM carrier ?

I am from myanmar and I would like to order iphone 5s contract free from T-mobile . is it compatible with my local GSM carrier ?

You should go onto the Tmobile web site and look around. Very soon a pop up window will ask you if you want to chat. You can try asking for someone who knows Spanish (if you prefer), they might have someone available who can chat with you in Spanish.
I give this suggestion because I remember on the Tmobile website, you can order on line, but they let you choose to pay only a little money up front, then pay off the rest over 24 months, or you can choose to pay for it in full. However, their ordering process does not say whether the paid for in full phone is going to be unlocked or not.
It may not be, You may have to make a request and say that since you have paid in full please unlock. I am not so sure that a paid for in full phone is automatically sold in unlocked state.
This is why I suggest you talk to Tmobile to get a definite answer.
Unless someone else on this forum knows for sure? Hope someone else jumps in to answer. But the best way is to ask for yourself directly from Tmobile.

  • IPhone and other wireless Carriers

Does anyone know if Apple plans to allow other wireless carriers to carry the iPhone in the near future?

Welcome to the Discussions, planet earth, and reality. When you refer to the "near future", what timeframe specifically are you referring to? In the US, Apple has no plans for additional carriers for the next 47 months.

  • Does unlocked iPhone 6 support both GSM and CDMA?

  • Hello I want to Buy iPhone 5 CDMA and GSM open and I am in Yemen how to do it

Hello I want to Buy iPhone 5 CDMA and GSM open and I am in Yemen how to do it

NO it won't work in India because all the iPhones for sale in the USA are carrier locked to networks, so no they won't work outside the USA.
There will be no unocked iPhones for sale in the US at the moment which is what you need, and anyway, if you purchased one in the US, there is no international warranty so there is nothing you can do.
You will have to wait because it won't work in India.

Why can't anybody get the photos I send them from my Iphone 4s? I've sent it to blackberries, iPhone 3G, and other phones - nothing has been able to get them!

Do you get a send error message or a red "!" when you send?  Do you have a data plan on your account?  Check that your carrier has you provisioned for MMS.

  • What's the type of iPhone 6 16GB Gold (GSM) T-Mobile? A1586?

    what's the type of iPhone 6 16GB Gold (GSM) T-Mobile? A1586?
    thanks.

it looks like the same model sold in Chile as the T-Mobile US iPhone 6
Only buy from an Apple retail Store NOT T-Mobile
There will not however be any warranty in Chile ,since the warranty is not International and I doubt the Chilean Carriers who provide iPhone support in your Country will be minded to assist with a US sourced iPhone

  • How to activate iphone 4 to any GSM network with MEP code

Hi,can you tell me people what's the best site to activate or unlock my iphone 4 to any GSM network, (only trusted sites)
i want to pay for unlock it, is not locked it, please help me with this issue, i would be glad with any help

This phone is locked because its been sold/supplied at a subsidized contract price which is a standard practise in many EU countries.
Now all EU Mobile operators are required to offer an unlock facility however are able to impose qualifying periods and charge if they want.
You have to contact Vodafone Spain and ask them to supply Apple with the unlock request.
That also assumes that the Vodafone Spain account is in YOUR name and that the phone is in Spain at the time.
THEY WILL KNOW from the imei number if its on their network or not!
They may also make a charge €25-30 going rate and may impose a three month minimum contract period before allowing the unlock to take place. (Revenue protection on subsidized phone rule)
The ONLY sure way to get an UNLOCKED iPhone is via Apple Retail direct and at full price.
If you can't meet those criteria you have little choice but to Sell the phone back to the Spanish market via eBay (Spain) or look away from these forums for unsupported jailbreak options.
Be aware these carry risks to the security stability and warranty of your iPhone.
