IPhone .mov videos crash windows explorer

I use OneDrive on my iPhone 5s to back up my photos and videos. When I try to view the videos on my Dell XPS Windows 8.1 machine, I run into trouble.
When I use Windows Live Photo Gallery, it crashes whenever I try to view one of the videos. If I open the camera roll folder in windows explorer it crashes when creating the thumbnails. I also tried using the modern UI photo viewer. It crashes as well when
opening the thumbnails. I tried using VLC. It does not play them either. There seems to be quite a few other people experiencing this issue.
I tried uninstalling some updates as mentioned here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7ca111ff-8978-4794-945c-5f36edb91786/videos-imported-from-iphone-4s-crashing-explorer-media-player-quicktime?forum=w8itproappcompat and here:

  • Imported iphone videos crash windows explorer

Hi, I have imported 10 short video clips from my iphone to my windows 8 laptop using the usb data cable. The transfer or import works fine however when I open the folder containing the clips and hover the mouse pointer over one of the video clip icons, windows explorer immediately closes. No error message, no warning, just immediate closure.
It appears to be a problem relating to the imported iphone clips as non of my other video clips have this error, just the ones I've just imported.
This occurs using various media players, WMP, VCL etc.
Having read a few thread on help forums it would seem this is something linked to thumbnail viewing but I've not got a clue how to sort this.
    Thanks in advance

TThis is a user to user support forum. You will only get a response here if someone else has experienced your problem, or knows a solution. Since your error involves Windows Explorer, have you tried a Microsoft support forum. You can also get an error report in Windows for the crash. Check with Microsoft.

  • Iphone 4 Crashing Windows Explorer...

Not internet explorer but Windows explorer. I don't know what the issue is everything was fine until I was prompted to do a carrier update which I did and now I can't view any folders on my computer without Windows Explorer crashing and restarting if my Iphone is plugged in.
    Any fix for this?!

Something like this is generally an OS problem. Have you visited Windows Update recently and made sure you have all service pack and software updates installed? Did you try a reboot of your PC? Is your machine trojan/virus/spyware free?
So many things it could be...

  • How Do I Preview QT Mpeg4 Video in Windows Explorer?

I have tried everything I can to try to get QuickTime videos to be viewed at thumbnails in Windows Explorer, but only Windows AVI and DIVX videos will be previewed as thumbnails.
    I tried these things:
    1. Installed QuickTime 7.6.2.14.0 updated this week
    2. Installed the K-Lite Codec Pack Basic
and selected to enable thumbnail previews for all video types
    http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm
    3. Searched the web for ideas.
    I even tried this command: regsvr32 shmedia.dll
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/17/how-to-enable-or-disable-media-and-vide o-thumbnail-preview-in-windows-xp/
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/17/how-to-turn-off-image-preview-thumbnail -and-disable-windows-picture-and-fax-viewer-in-windows-xp/
    4. Tried rebooting several times.
    5. Looked through ''Folder Options'' and reset to defaults.
    6. I tried installing this freeware that enables FLV (flash) videos to be previewed in Windows Explorer hoping it would "kick start" whatever the problem is.
    http://www.swf-kit.com/swfpreview.html
    7. I tried looking for "Web View" under Folder Options to enable it, but
it is nowhere to be found under Windows XP SP3.
    8. I tried re-saving the MPEG4 (mp4 extension) as a QuickTime Movie and then exporting the video "for the web" in the three ipod/iphone/Desktop formats and that did not work either. They do not get previewed under Thumbnail view.
I am at a loss what else to try.
    Thanks for any suggestion.

Here is how I resolved this problem and now ALL video files show thumbnail previews inside Windows Explorer.
    1. I uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack
    2. I rebooted Windows XP (SP3)
    3. I installed the XVID codec version 1.2.1 from http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html
    4. I rebooted Windows XP
    5. I installed the K-Lite codec pack (basic edition)
    6. Since I already had XVID and DIVX (from Divx.com) installed,
I unchecked XVID and DIVX under the DirectShow Video Decoding Filters.
    7. I activated H264 and chose "ffdshow" instead of "(use system default)"
    8. I created file associations for use with Windows Media Player, allowing the defaults to be selected automatically.
    9. I left QuickTime (mov) unchecked for the file associations.
    10. I turned on thumbnail generation for all file types.
I finished installing K-Lite Basic and then rebooted Windows XP.
When I opened "My Videos" Folder I saw video thumbnails of all my Mpeg4 QuickTime movies.

  • Transferring multiple videos by windows explorer. Error code 0x80030001

Phoostream is a great feature. Transferring photos have never been so easy. However, I do have a qualm regarding the service and that is that it does not sync videos! Therefore, I still have to go back to the arduous processes of plugging it into my computer and selecting the videos to be transferred to my computer. However, it wasn't as easy as I had expected. Windows import feature imports both photo and videos and I can ONLY import new media. Old media is not imported so that means that videos that I synced that may have been deleted are not imported through windows explorer.l, and I cannot get it to transfer anymore. I tried copy and pasting multiple videos from the windows explorer but it prompted me the error code 0x80030001 and it cannot be transferred. I have to transfer them individually. Anyone has a reliable and easy way to get my videos to transfer from iPhone to PC?

yeah! sure windows problem... neither the location nor the folder path is given in default industry standards... by APPLE DEVICE
But if I need my latest taken picture from an apple phone... one can see over more than 30 directories random named like 845OJOX or 900DZDMI ???
In those random named directories lies apples 'closed coding' following faulthy tagging and resulting in different and random again batches of photos taken.
If I do a search in windows I can find all the pictures on this apple phone and even better i'm in control to sort the way i like!
Unfortunately the apple 'faulthy tagging method' makes it impossible to communicate with any other divice about accessing...
This is a simple poor show of apple's limited object oriented filing...
The same i had from pictures taken of a holliday where i did change my phone to local time and my wife's phone not and the seperate camera had also home settings... when i imported those all together after holliday via a program called i-tunes I had to buy 3 different apps and store all these holliday pictures(8gig) seperate (problem since 16gig should be available on apples device; i had only 9gig freed by eliminating all apps possible... and needed 24gig total for apps photo database) in all the overpriced purchased apps, to finaly show those pictures time synchronized to the holliday !
How hard it can be to sort files as the user needs????
DRAMATIC POOR APPLE PERFORMANCE (i thought apple was so good with pictures and so..)
On my pc I also did import the holliday pictures from these three devices and sorted those within minutes(!!!) right to holliday time sync...
Anyway i found also a time consuming way to copy latest taken pictures in random apple maps
(i wish to select a specific time batch and drag these to new map on pc (no apple pc))
look in all the random named apple device maps and check if there is a picture belonging to the batch you need and drag these to the new map...
Something what could take from any other phone some milisecs... takes with apple devices 2 days time !!!!
Best way for taking photo's you need later on other devices than apple... take the photo's on a non apple device and save extra holliday time!

  • Export function crashes Windows Explorer or at least the exported images do.

This is the first time that I have used the Export function since upgrading to version 2 so believe that it is tied in with the upgrade somehow.
When I choose an image > Export > Temp folder on the Desktop the image does indeed appear in the temp folder. Double clicking on the folder displays the contents and so long as I take no further action nothing more happens. However, as soon as I move the mouse over the image icon this causes Windows Explorer to crash.
With LR closed down, I navigate to the folder where the image is located and by right-clicking > copy I then save a copy to another temporary folder on the desktop. Moving the mouse over the image icon does NOT this time cause Windows Explorer to crash.
I have tried the Export function with RAW, DNG and JPG files to see if the problem was related to any one particular file or file format but it makes no difference - the same problem as described above occurs.
Has anyone else experienced this or can advise on how to possibly isolate this problem?
    Windows XP2 SP3

Thanks for that John. Having done as you suggested, the problem appears to be with a dll file associated with another application I used for displaying cr2 and crw thumbnails in Windows Explorer. In the applications (dpMagic) preferences if I uncheck jpg and jpeg from the file associations Windows Explorer does not crash following Export from Lightroom and in this situation, double-clicking on the exported jpg/jpeg file now results in it opening in Windows Fax and Picture Viewer.
Even uninstalling the application followed by manually searching for any trace of remaining files prior to a fresh install does not cure the problem and I suspect that not all files from this application are being removed.
Anyway, I have now emailed dpMagic support for advice but am happy that the cause of this crash does not now appear to lie with Lightroom.
Thanks again for your advice, regards and have a nice day.

  • Iphone not recognized by windows explorer

I've read previous posts on this but no luck.  I have never had a problem with this before.  I'd plug my iphone 5 into my laptop, open Windows Explorer, then drag/drop files into my computer from my phone.
Then I purchased a Canon camera with wifi for my office.  My IT guy tried to no avail to get the wifi to work.  In the process, my Windows Explorer will no longer recognized either the Canon camera or my iphone.  I am running out of space on my phone.  I emailed myself all the videos I could so I could delete them but many photos and my larger videos are stuck on there.
My phone works great in itunes, I have no problems with my USB drives otherwise.
I've tried some fixes I've read about: stop/start Apple Device Service.  I went to device manager and explanded the list as someone had suggested.  They said to right click on "imaging devices" to then uninstall a driver but imaging devices was not in the list.
My IT guy says the drivers are gone and I need a new hard drive for my Dell laptop which I have to pay for.
    This is very frustrating.
Please offer any assistance you can.
    Thank you.

    This article might help: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

  • Photostream crashes Windows Explorer when new photo is added

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and as my title states, Windows Explorer crashes most of the time when a photo is uploaded from my iOS devices (iPhone 4, iPad 2) to Photo Stream.
I have seen many posts regarding the imcompatabilites between iCloud and Windows machines. Regardless, I thougght I would post this on here in hope that someone might know the fix to this. As many of my background program relies on Windows Explorer to be consistent, this restarting of Explorer cause me to manually restart many other programs, as well as fear of file corruption.
I personally haven't uninstalled iCloud as of yet as it is a great part of my workflow. In addition, this is a new machine I have purchased, but this problem has carried over from my last laptop onto here, so I'm certain that iCloud is the culprit. Furthermore, in hope of preventing this problem as I received this new machine, I had installed iCloud after many of my other programs. Still the problem persists.
Thank you for reading, and any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately I have uninstalled iCloud long ago. For good. Pretty much lost faith in the whole product and altered my workflow to live without it. Sad I know. But installing again and facing the errors again is not fun until I know it's been revamped majorly.
I will try again when Apple releases iOS 7. Maybe they'll have some updates on iCloud too.
Pretty annoying that iTunes asks me to install iClous everytime I plug in my phone though.
And yes, I use Dropbox with no problems too.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop install crashes Windows Explorer and hangs

This all started with my inability to activate Adobe Acrobat on my computer after wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the OS.
I had no trouble initially downloading or installing anything from the Adobe Creative Cloud. I ran several apps and they worked (albeit in trial mode for a day or two)
And then the Initial Problem: Trying to Activate Adobe Acrobat failed to get pass the sign-in screen.
It would hang for about 30 minutes and then come back to the error that the computer's clock must be incorrect or an error with the Internet connection. (It's a standard error documented on Adobe's site that says you need to make sure your computer can really get to all of Adobe's activation servers/sites/etc. I double-checked everything in the troubleshooting list to be sure but found nothing wrong with the computer or the ability to get to Adobe's sites.
Exasperated. I went online for tech support. It was definately Level 1 support (had me checking all the stuff I had already spent an hour checking - and had already told him I tested it all).
Anyway, I spent an hour on the chat with Adobe Tech Support going through the usual stuff.
He had me check virus programs, computer clock, conenctions to Adobe sites (like the licensing servers). But nothing ever helped or worked. Then he told me to try going directly to the Adobe Creative Cloud site and trying to download and install the Creative Cloud desktop manager. I did that but it hangs when it launches the manager on the initial window with a black/grey Creative Cloud bar at the top (with the tool drop-down on the right side) but the rest of the window never loads.
After an hour of going in circles I decided it would be better to try again later with someone in second-level support.
In the meantime, I uninstalled ALL Adobe applications. There is no Flash-Player, no Acrobat Reader - nothing from Adobe in my programs list.
I then tried to download and install the Adobe Application Manager. It works up to the point where it launches the Creative Cloud Desktop tools and then hangs at the same place.
There is a Creative Cloud window with the normal black/grey bar at the top - but the rest of the window (where you would normally see and load the apps from) stays empty.
I have rebooted the computer several times to be sure it is a fresh start. That has not helped at all. One additional thing I have noticed in these multiple attempts is that when the Creative Cloud Desktop Manager installer gets about 95% done, it causes Windows Explorer to crash (not Internet Explorer but Windows Explorer). Once Windows Explorer resets, Creative Cloud continues the installation but then opens the window (above) that has nothing but the black/grey header.
I'm struggling for what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I am paying $50 a month for something I can't even install or use.
For what it's worth, the system is an HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. 8GB of RAM and plenty of HDD space. All security updates applied and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1. I doubt that any of that last line is relevant since I could run all of this with no problem before wiping the hard drive AND it was all running with no problem - other than Activating Acrobat at the start of this whole issue.

    Jim,
You are a lifesaver! I can't think of how many additional hours of frustration you just saved me - but Thank You!!
After posting, I had determined (like you said), that Explorer must be doing that for a reason. I created a new user profile on the system (added a user temporarily) and observed the same behavior of Windows Explorer (stopping/starting) but then continuing to work as it should. At that point I knew the answer was somewhere in the user's profile but I would have had no idea where to look. The opm.db file was indeed the culprit.
I sure do appreciate the excellent help.

  • How to transfer MOV videos to window's XP laptop

My MOV videos do not transfer to my Windows XP netbook.  Do I need to download additional software to make this work?  I have no problem with transfering photos, it is just the videos.
ETA I tries to copy it then I get an error message that says "UNABLE TO COPY".

I double checked. There was enough, but to be safe I went through some programs I don't use and freed up an additional 1500 MB of memory.  Still didn't work.
However, I was able to set up a drop box account that that seemed to work.  I wonder if it has something to do with the photo downloader that came installed on the computer.  I have an HP mini, and I know that I have problems with a lot of programs that require a higher resolution. Maybe it has something to do with that.  Luckily it works with dropbox.

  • Iphone not showing in windows explorer?

This started happening recently (like 2 or 3 months ago maybe?) where my iphone would not show in the windows explorer. I tried deleting all the photos not taken by my iphone, restoring it, deleting all my photos, deleting the dcim folder via diskaid, but none of these remedies have worked...
This also occurs on both my laptop and on my desktop, both of which are running the newest itunes and windows 7 64 bit.

ensure you have some image in your "Camera Roll". Take a picture then plug it back. if still didn't show use your "Scanner and Camera Wizad".

  • What version of iTunes can I download for Windows Vista, with a QuickTime player that won't crash Windows Explorer?

I have tried installing both iTunes 10.4.1 and iTunes 10.3.1 for 64-bit Windows Vista.  They both install well, but my Windows Explorer crashes as soon as I open either of them.  I have to 'hit the emergency brakes' and hold down the power button on my laptop to stop the meltdown.  After reading other people's threads, I realized that the problem is QuickTime 7.  I still need to find out, however, if there is a 64-bit Vista version of iTunes with QuickTime 6 or lower that can still be downloaded from the Apple website.  I really like iTunes, and I have done without for about two years now.  Please help!!!

While working with Edge 3.0 there were no conflict between win7 and edge. But when my html5 development team updated edge 3.0 to edge 2014 all of us getting this error : "Windows explorer has stopped working" while rightclicking on desktop or copying files from a folder to another. I get this error even while doing nothing (no clicking or pressing keys). And my solution for this crash is rolling back for now. Uninstalled edge 2014 and reinstalled edge 3.0 everyrthing is okay. So is this common error for you guys? Anyone knows a solution?

    Hi preran,
it's the desktop explorer not the browsers. Adding screenshot... as you can see animatecc2014 even not opened but when I uninstalled it and installed edge 3.0 I don't get this error anymore.

  • Viewing Vista Folder Containing Palm Stuff Crashes Window Explorer

After I install the Palm software, it creates a directory in my Documents folder.  When I open the Documents folder, Windows Explorer crashes.  After I uninstall the Palm software, I have no further issues.  So, I tried to be clever and create a folder called Palm Stuff and installed the software in that folder.  This worked, excdept when I sync for the first time, it creates a new folder in the Documents folder for the synced info and I am back to where I was.  How can I change where that folder is created when I sync?

There are registry entries that need to be deleted to completely remove Palm desktop. Here are the uninstall instructions.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. When it asks for a username, use the name that is in the upper right corner of the hotsync application on your Centro.
