  • IPhone movie rental problems

I rented a movie on my iPhone yesterday. This morning I connected my iPhone to my laptop and it synced with iTunes. When I did that it automatically removed the movie rental from my iPhone and has added it to 'Movies' (not rented movies) in iTunes. However, it will neither play in iTunes nor let me transfer it to the iPhone.
Suggestions? Anyone else have this issue?

I have the same problem and I am pretty steamed about it right now.
Movie can't be moved back to the iPhone.
Movie can't be played on the mac.
It's essentially in limbo. This is the second time today that DRM in one form or another has hosed me. I just want to watch my rented movie that I paid for!

  • IPhone Movie Rental problem on iPhone 4

So I rented the HD version of Avatar ($4.99) and it just won't download to my iPhone. When I "tap to retry," it just takes me back to "Download error, Tap to retry" message again. Also, I have perfect wifi going on in my house. Anyone have any ideas or solutions?

I'm anxious for a solution as well. I have tried all kinds of "tricks" (which there shouldn't have to be any at this point) suggested here for other models of iPhone, I've tried transferring to iTunes then back again, deleting files off iPhone and trying downloads again, etc. There is no pause button that comes up for me to hit (as suggested in another thread), either. I am afraid that because I was only given the option on my iPhone to rent HD movies that I will lose them because they are not able to be transferred to iTunes. It is too bad the iTunes store doesn't give you the automatic option to rent either HD or standard when you buy it. And the HD icon is faint gray on the right of the screen so you do not see it on a tiny little phone screen. I think I've just wasted $15 bucks.

  • Itunes movie rental on iPhone. Expired but continues to download.

I downloaded a movie on my iphone through iTunes. I was able to successfully watch the movie. 48 hours later the movie rental expired, yet itunes continues to try and re-download the movie. I've watched the download process a few times. It downloads the whole file (1.5GB), moves on to processing and then there is an error message that it is unable to connect to iTunes.
How do I remove this movie from the download queue?
    Thanks,

If you rent it on your iPhone then it will download onto your phone, films from iTunes aren't streamed.
For rentals you have 30 days to watch it, but once you start watching it (even if you only watch one second) you then have 24 hours if you are in the US, 48 hours elsewhere, to finish watching it before it expires.

No. Once downloaded to an iOS device it cannot be transferred to another iOS device or computer, & can only be watched on that iOS device.

  • Rented Movie Space Not Being Freed on Iphone after rental

I rented a movie in Itunes, transferred it to my iphone, and watched it. 24 hours later I got a message that the movie rental had expired. That was the way it was supposed to work, I thought.
However, now my iphone shows 1.54 GB of space allocated to "Other" and syncing the iphone doesn't free up the space.
I don't have anything else in "other" that I know of. What could that "other" stuff be other than the movie rental file?

I thought it was just me! I rented the movie and put it on my iPhone before my recent trip. I thought I would watch it but didn't so I transferred it back to computer. But still had 1.54GB of "other" so I removed photos, movies, music, podcasts from it so that there was nothing on it (just a PIM at this point). Still had 1.54GB of "other".
I saw this post and simply shut the iPhone down and started it back up. Voila! 208MB of "other" remained. My guess is this is the calendars, contacts, bookmarks listed on the "info" tab. I agree that you should not have to cycle power on the iphone to get your space back.
Now all I have to do is put all that content back on the iphone... USB *****

  • HT201272 Can't get movie rental from iPad air to show up on iPhone 4S?

How do you get a movie rental on iPad air to show up on iPhone 4S so we can watch??

You can't, rentals are one-time only downloads, and from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657 :
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • Can I transfer an iTunes movie rental from one computer to another?

A movie I rented on one PC with iTunes Windows won't transfer to my main PC.  I'm using the latest version of iTunes and Windows 7.
I also have an iPhone 4s with iOS 6.  I can't transfer the movie rental there either.
(I want the movie on my main PC, because only that PC will show it on my TV.  Both PC's are suthorized.
    Help!

Sorry, but rentals cannot be transferred from one computer to another. Unless someone's found a trick I haven't seen, if you want the rental on your main PC, you'll have to pay to rent it again. As to transferring the rental to your iPhone, see:

  • Movie rental wont play

I just rented two movies and they both finished down loading, i tried playing both of them and neither of them will. The screen just stays black and does nothing
    any ideas?

From the iTunes Store Terms of Sale:
    MOVIE RENTALS
Movies are viewable only on your Mac or Windows computer (using iTunes version 7.6 or later), iPhone, video-enabled iPod (iPod touch, iPod nano (3rd generation), or iPod classic), or on TVs using your Apple TV. Movies in high definition resolution (HD) are viewable only on TVs using your Apple TV and must be downloaded directly to your Apple TV. Movies are viewable only on one device at a time.
You must be connected to the iTunes Store when moving or streaming movies. Once a movie is moved, it is no longer viewable on the sending device. You may only move movies to another device from your Mac or Windows computer. Movies downloaded directly to your Apple TV may not be moved.
You have thirty (30) days after downloading a movie to begin viewing. Once you begin viewing, you have twenty-four (24) hours to view the movie (the “Viewing Period”). You may view the movie an unlimited number of times during the Viewing Period. Movies are not viewable after the thirty (30) day period. Stopping, pausing or restarting a movie does not extend the available time for viewing.
If you move a movie to an iPod or iPhone and then use iTunes to restore the iPod or iPhone before you finish watching it, the movie will be deleted and will not be recoverable. This also applies to choosing Settings > Reset > Erase all content and settings on iPod touch and iPhone.
    Broadband Internet connection required.

  • HT1657 Using a VGA adaptor with iPad 1 for iTunes movie rentals?

I have an iPad 1 with a VGA adaptor to display supported apps on external displays like YouTube and GoodReader. I tried to use this with a rented SD movie from iTunes and I got a warning along the lines of  "output device not supported for protected material." Is there a way to do play iTunes rentals on an external display from the iPad? This is simple on a MacBook.
    Thanks,

  • Transferring movie rentals/purchases to other devices

I just downloaded my first movie rental to my iMac. I think I can transfer it to my Macbook, iPod, iPhone, etc. And I believe it can only reside on one device at a time. I just can't figure out how to transfer it. Is it possible? Thanks, and would this apply to rentals as well as purchases? Thanks!

this has worked for some rentals:
connect your device to your computer.
In iTunes, select your device (below Devices):
Click the Movies or TV Shows tab, depending upon the item you rented.
    Select the rented item.
Click Move. After you transfer a rental, it’s removed from your iTunes library.
Some movies and TV episodes in the iTunes Store are available for rental in HD-quality format. HD rentals can only be transferred from your computer to iOS devices capable of viewing HD content. If you rent an HD movie with an Apple TV, you can’t transfer it to another computer or device.
A rented item expires 30 days after you rent it or 24 hours after you begin playing it, whichever comes first. Expired rentals are deleted automatically.
Note:  These terms apply to U.S. rentals. Rental terms vary among countries.

  • IPad "cannot open" iTunes movie rentals

I am travelling / I rented 2 ,movies for the plane but did it from an old 32bit Macbook. They transferred fine to the iPad but when I tried to open them I got the "Cannot Open" message. Result - did not get to watch my rentals ! I have an idea the fact that I purchased on an old generation Macbook Pro is the issue ?
They are still on my iPad (and presumably still somewhow registered in my account)
I happen to be travelling with a 64bit Macbook Pro (should have purchased from here in the first place !!)
I am thinking there might be a way to resync my iPad with my 64 bit Macbook and resync the movies so that I can at least watch them on of before the flight home next week
    Ideas appreciated ?
