Iphone movie upside down in fcp

Hello, I've followed through every question I can find on this and no one sems to be giving an answer. I apparently shot vodeo upside down on my iphone and brought it into FCP from iphoto. I also brought it in Image capture.  How is is possible that there is no way of rotating this?  I feel desperate and I've been working on this for hours.
I would appreciate any help.
I use fcp 6.0.6 and the mac is a 10.6.8

HI Meg, I had looked at this before ( see below) and was going to try it but since I don't have ProRes LT I used ProRes and the estimated file size is 47 G.
I think it's too cumbersome to work with. The end place is Youtube with a dvd in the gallery so  I don't need this quality.
Any other suggestions
best Libby

Wrote this over on reddit - thought it'd be useful here.
Here's the problem: +What you have is 720p 24 frame h.264 files with 44k aac audio+. It doesn't matter if you understood this.
What's happening is that FCP can't handle compressed audio in RT; so you have a red render bar - which is giving you the beeping.
Final Cut Pro is optimized to work with footage in 'common' video formats - formats that are geared for editing. The problem with the supercompressed stuff like this is that it's meant for distribution, not really for editing.
Camera based (and editing based) codecs usually have all the information on every frame. There's less decoding for the editorial software (and less rendering) because the software has to essentially decode one frame.
Distribution codecs usually have a full frame…and then a series of frames that are only changes. Editorial software has to cache up to 15 frames to decode a single frame; it's stressful and the renders are far longer.
*Getting settings right is a pain*. So, starting in FCP 5, when you drop the first clip into the timeline, FCP will ask if you want to set the sequence to match your footage. Performance will be optimized this way. If you do this - you'll have Real Time (RT) video, audio, many effects and transitions - and the ability to tell FCP to use Unlimited RT - a way of having FCP play frames that might need rendering…without rendering (yes, I"m simplifying)
+But that only works when it's a piece of video optimized for editorial+
When you drop footage that is not standard, FCP still shows you the dialog box asking if you want to conform the sequence. It builds a sequence that matches the footage (as close as possible) You'll get zero RT effects, but you'll be able to play the video. But compressed audio ain't happening. Don't ask me why, I can only guess that the priority of non-standard, compressed audio is below other priority features/programming/bugfixes.
How to solve your problem. If you set this up, you can automate this. Reading this will take far longer than actually doing it.
We need to get your video into something native that FCP can edit - especially the audio.
We'll start by dragging a piece of your video into Compressor. Then under settings type LT into the search box. The top hit should be for Apple ProRes 422 (LT) - a less compressed codec.
But Apple hasn't gotten our audio right. So we need to fix it, save the preset…and then to automate the process save our setting as a droplet.
Fix the audio:
1) Select the ProRes LT setting in the top window and the inspector will light up.
2) The first inspector tab is for the Summary - we need to press the second one to get access to the encoders.
3) On the encoder tab, we need to switch the audio from Pass-through to enabled.
4) Then we're going to press the settings button.
5) Change the Format to Linear PCM, Stereo (L R), 48kHz, sample size 16 bits. Press Okay.
We now have THIS setting correct.
6) On the bottom right of the inspector is a button called SAVE AS… 7) Call this iPhone to FCP (ProRes LT)
Let's make a droplet
8) Clear the Search field on the Settings window.
9) Open the Custom Group
10) Select the iPhone to FCP (ProRes LT) and press the button at the top left of the Settings window that looks like a video file with a down arrow.
11) Save the droplet to your desktop.
Now you can drag your iPhone movies to the droplet, it'll throw up a dialog box, press submit and Compressor will transcode all your files to ProRes, ready to go in FCP.
*I did all of this for you. Here's the linked file http://files.me.com/jeffgreenberg/8iprtv*
+tl;dr Pass the files through compressor using the ProRes LT setting with one modification. It'll create much bigger files, but FCP will work (full RT effects.)+

Photos taken from my iPhone appears upside down in windows explorer....

Hi The problem I think ou are experiencing is because of the way you turn the phone to take pics. With the phone vertical (home button at the bottom) the pics you take will appear the right way up in all applications, the problem will occur when you hold the phone horizontally. If you hold the phone with the home button to the right the pics you take will appear the right way up in all applications, if you hold the phone with the home button to the left the pics will appear the right way up in the camera roll and some other apps that understand the iphone camera rotation but in other apps (iphoto and windows explorer are two) these photos will appear upside down.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone video upside down in FF4

When I put landscape iphone video to my .mac gallery is it upside down.
Looks fine in chrome and safari and imovie.
    I checked the web.
Some folks say that I should have taken the landscape video with the home button on the right (I did not).
Others say the problem is the quicktime plug in in FF4.
    Does anyone know for sure?
    Thanks.
    mac

In response to Rudegar, I already checked my original movie in different browsers:
    See where I said:
"Looks fine in chrome and safari and imovie."
In any case, I did what I should have done before.
I now made two very short movies, one with the home button on the right, one on the left.
Then I tested, and it indeed is FF 4.
All other browsers showed both movies fine.

  • Iphone4 video upside down in FCP

Does anyone else know how to fix this? I flipped all the video, then rendered but it still plays upside down. Should I export it and then bring it back? if so what settings do you suggest that mimic the video quality?

    I'm having the same problem...
I import video via image capture or aperture 3. The video plays just fine in quicktime, but when I import to FCP the video is upside down. The only quick solution is to rotate video once it's in the timeline... but sometimes you have to rotate 180 and sometimes 360, doesn't make sense... very annoying. Let me know if you find a fix. thanks.

  • Why are all pictures I take on my iPhone 4s upside down when received in an email?

Always the pictures download upside down whenever it's emailed. In my camera roll they are straight or right side up and also it's right side up in another iOS device but when I download it from my pc it's always sideways or upside down.

It's always right side up if the picture is in a text message or opened in an email in an  iOS device. However in my case like using a laptop to open some mail the pictures I've taken from my iPhone is always upside down or sideways. If I then try to rotate it, for some pictures my computer will give an error message that the picture can't be saved with the changes because of something about the file properties.  It is possible that it's my computer but if you have a pc and an iPhone try it.
Also if I edit the pictures in iPhoto using my iPhone the pictures opened in my pc is always right side up with no problems.  Or if I import the pictures using the windows photo application most of the time the pictures will import correctly but like in my case a few nights ago some pictures were upside down and sideways and could not be saved after rotating it.

  • Why are my movies upside down and backwards? Mobile Me shows them right, Chrome and Safari shows them right, it is only Firefox that does this.

This is new to Firefox 4+ I believe because it never happened before. I am on a macintosh, Snow leapord OS, and the movies are stored on Mobile Me for apple. When I set them up they showed fine on Firefox, but now I can only watch them on Chrome and Safari. Please fix this.

I knew thats what the response was going to be...
I said in my original post that I used another gif maker to upload the same frames I'm using and the image it generates is able to play a lot faster than when I try with Photoshop so it's not an issue about different browsers.
I dont see what posting my settings will do since the site that generated the gif that plays faster is the same file size as the one saved by Photoshop... and as far as I know the only setting relevant to the animation speed is the Delay which I have set to 0, 0.1, and 0.1 which are the fastest speeds yet photoshop saves them more delayed than its suppoed to.

  • Can you turn the screen totally upside down on iPhone?

I would really like to be able to totally turn my iPhones screen upside down so that the home button is on the top and I can use it as normal or even lock it in that position. Is this feature already available? If so, how can I activate it. If not, then who would like Apple to issue an update. I really hate listening to music with the wire up the top of the phone stretching down because it's in the way and just breaks the wire sometimes as it is putting so much pressure on it.

The screen will only rotate in some apps.  The homescreens will not rotate at all and some apps only rotate 90°, not 180°.
If you don't see the Portrait Lock (circle with lock in it) in the upper right, your screen will rotate when applicable.
If you do, double-click the home button, swipe to the right and press the far left icon to turn off the Portrait Lock

  • How to make iCloud photostream show upside down photos in correct orientation

My question is related to iPhone 5s/iOS 7.1.2, Camera.app, iPhoto 9.5.1 (902.17) for Mac, iCloud shared Photostream.
I have taken photos with iPhone 5s upside down (using volume buttons, i.e. Home button on the left) and loaded them on my Mac (MacBook Pro 15” mid 2012 with OS X 10.9.4 with iPhoto). I copied the photos from the iPhoto photostream into iPhoto library in an album of their own and rotated the upside photos in the correct orientation. Then I shared the photos in iCloud and the photos which I had roated to correct orientation where once again upside down. And when I drag&drop the photo (which has the corrected orientation) from iPhoto library album into a Finder folder the photo is once again upside down when I open it with Preview.
I have a notion that all Apple software on Mac shows correctly the iPhone upside photos (because it reads the photo metada) and practically all non-Apple software both on Mac and PC doesn’t use iPhone photos’ metadata and show the photos upside down.
Is there any way to make iCloud show the  shared photos in correct orientation in the browser without rotating the photo with external application in iPhoto or is there a bug in iCloud or is the iPhoto rotation a "fake rotation"? I want to ensure that people with whom I share the photos, see it always in the correct orientation (no matter what the platform is) so that they don’t have to struggle with rotating of the stuff and I don’t have to take extra steps to rotate the upside down photos outside iPhoto.
N.B. 1: I understand that in the future I always have to shoot photos and videos with iPhone Home-button on the rigth side (i.e. volume buttons pointind down). My question is related to the photos I have already taken.
N.B. 2: I just learned that when I rotate the photo with Preview, throw it back into iPhoto library album and then add the rotated photo in the shared stream, it is in the correct orentation in iCloud. However, I want to avoid this extra step

That's the answer to your question. Why is it you want to avoid this?
Because it is an extra step. So, I already rotated the photo with iPhoto's rotation functionality, but the rotated photo is upside down in iCloud photostream. I think it should stay rotated when shared in iCloud. The other problem is that if I forgot to rotate the photo before sharing it in photostream, I have to delete the photo from the photostream and add a rotated version from the iPhoto library in photostream and now the order of the photos is incorrect. iCloud adds the last shared photo as the first photo in the stream. At least I haven't found a way to place the new photo in its original (the correct) palce in the stream.

  • Iphone 6 Plus: the first picture i take when i unlock my phone is always upside down

    Hi folks,
Strange issue found on my Iphone 6 Plus: the the first picture i take or movie i shoot when i unlock my phone is always upside down. After the first picture, everything is correct. If i'm opening the camera after another app, i don't have any issue. Only if using the camera when the phone is still locked or if it's the first app used after unlocking.
I'm not in "zoom mode", and i started my Iphone as a new device, not importing any data from my previous Iphone.
A part from that: best phone ever !

Get a replacement nanoSIM from Rogers and see if this helps.

  • Emailing iphone 4S photos to someone arrive upside down

when emailing a photo from iphone 4s camera roll, it arrives from 90 degree rotation to upside down (180 degrees). What causes this?

I agree that Apple needs to fix this. For some reason, I do not remember this problem on earlier versions of iOS 4, but it may well have been there all along. But now that I have iOS 5, it seems that no matter how I take a photo--either in portrait layout or lanscape--it gets tilted when e-mailed from my iPhone and then viewed on a regular PC. Video can and does sometimes come out upside down. I found that I could use Windows Movie Maker to reorient the movie to right side up, but the process seems to double the file size..so a 2 minute video that is 170MB ends up being 330MB !  Somehow the orientation metadata is getting lost or corrupted. I've seen a couple of forum posts suggesting that Apple doesn't want to set an all-purpose "this way is up" metadata tag because there are, apparently, some folks out there who do really want to shoot pictures and video upside down. If that's the case, I'd suggest instead that Apple add a camera settings option in the "settings" section that allows for both an "always up" setting and a "fixed frame" so that idiots like me will always have their pictures and video orientented up while true artists can have the option to decide what is up and upside down. Until then, I have not yet figured out how to prevent post-picture e-mail photo orientation grief. Each e-mailed photo tends to be its own orientation surprise.

  • Why my iPhone 5S taking pictures upside down?

I have iOS 8.1 installed in my iPhone. While taking the picture sometimes it displays the camera screen in upside down direction and pictures taken also in upside down direction but sometimes it works fine.
Also I have encountered that while taking first picture flash sound doesn't come out (Ensured that iPhone is not on silent mode), for the rest of the pictures, it works fine. Could anyone please help me in this.

Have you tried soft reseting it. Holding the power and home screen buttons. For about 10 seconds. If not the next thing I would do is  reset all settings.: Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings.  If that still does not work. Restoring to factory with iTunes and  not loading a backup. Would be the next testing step. If still does not work. Then it would be something apple would need to fix for you. (1-800-MY-APPLE)

  • Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?

Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?
On another note, the iPhone tells me that it's ''busy'' when opening a photo on the computer.
(I tried restarting my PC, connecting via another USB port, importing using PhotoStream, etc...)

Are you using the front or rear camera? When you say they are low quality, are you referring to file/pixel size, or how the picture looks? As far as upside down, how are you holding the phone? Older versions of Windows have issues reading the Metadata from the pictures and will not display the same.

  • When I take a picture with my IPhone and send it to my home computer, why do the pictures turn sideways or upside down (it's an HP windows computer)

When I take a picture with my IPhone and send it to my home computer (HP Windows) why does the picture turn out sideways or upside down?

OK, here's the explanation.  When you take a picture, the iPhone knows what orientation it is in (portrait, landscape, etc.) and adds that information to the picture's EXIF data so it knows which side is up.  Apple devices can decode this information and show the picture right side up when it is viewed.  However, Windows computers cannot do this.  They are not capable of decoding the orientation information added by the iPhone, so they are displayed in a default orientation (which may not be right side up).
This only happens on Windows machines, and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it, except use the rotation buttons in Windows picture view to orient the photo correctly.
