IPhone Music Album Art DB is strangely huge

I have an iPad and an iPhone. Both get music from the same source. Both take the tracks from my computer's library, downsize them to 128kps and there we are. However, the on-device Art Database sizes are very different and not in the way that makes sense. The size of the DB files was gathered using iPhone Explorer.
iPad has 4225 tracks. Art database is 2408MB
iPhone has 2334 tracks. Art database is 3104MB
A vast majority of the iPad library and the iPhone library overlap, so there is ZERO reason why the iPhone art DB takes up more space than the iPad's, unless something else is stored there that I dont understand. There are more FILES in the iPad DB, but they are overall smaller files. Each iPhone DB file is 200-500 MB. iPad DB files can be between 12-500MB
See the problem? Any thoughts? Any idea where I could direct this problem to, even? I just don't get it.

I used ScareZebra's solution (iFunBox for mac) and it worked great to FINALLY fix this issue.    My library artwork was totally messed up, using mostly video image stills and other photos for album art and no amount of deleting or resyncing was working.
It didn't seem to work right away, but after turning the phone OFF/ON* my artwork started refreshing and everything is perfect now.  I also added a step (directly deleting the artwork off of the phone, which I think may have been key to my particular situation)*.  Here were my steps.
1.) Installed ifunbox for mac on my computer and launched
2.) Plugged in iphone and navigated to RAW FILE SYSTEM/iTunes_Control/iTunes folder
3.) Copied the following 3 files to my desktop (for backup, just in case), then DELETED from the phone: MediaLibrary.sqlitedb, MediaLibrary.sqlitedb-shm, MediaLibrary.sqlitedb-wal
*4.) Copied the contents of the ARTWORK folder to my desktop for backup (just in case) then DELETED from the phone - Left the empty folder there
*5.) Turned iphone OFF and then ON
This worked and everything is back to normal.  I haven't noticed any issues.
Thanks for figuring this out ScareZebra!

  • IPhone4 Music album art swapping with other albums?

So my iPhone 4 has been going through some issues since the release of 4S:
Slow performance; freezing whilst receiving messages (both iMessage and standard txt); phone vibrates and makes the noise, then 30 seconds later lights up with the alert/notification on the screen.
But the strangest of all, is that randomly the music album art swaps with each other. What is clearly a male artist and his album art, randomly gets Kylie Minogues Album art? However, in iTunes, the album art is correct? I have repeatedly Sync'ed, however, don't want to "restore" the iPhone. But I feel I am fast approaching this as my final option.... :-(
    Any idea's?
This might be the conspirer in me - but issues like this occur whenever Apple bring out the newer version of the iPhone... a plot to make us upgrade out of frustration?
    Many thanks,
         BN0079

Hi, mine's having the same issue, but only of late. I have posted a similar question on here - but judging from your's being posted in August lol - maybe I won't have any luck.
My next stop is to delete all albums and music from my iPhone4 and then BackUp. I'll restore my phone to factory settings and start again.
If that fails to solve the issue, Apple will have to issue me a new phone over the Genuis Bar in-store. :-)

  • Is it possible for the next IOS 6 update for the music album art to display on the homescreen as a backround image when music is playing?

Is it possible for the next IOS 6 update for the music album art to display on the homescreen as a backround image when music is playing?

It does, under certain circumstances. If you are playing music and lock the phone or it locks on its own, when you wake it up, the album art will show. It also shows as the background if you are in the music app. If this is not exactly what you are looking for, you can submit feedback to Apple about this feature at www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Music Album Art and Blackberry Link Issues

I have been using blackberry for ages and have never had an issue with the media sync, it normally has worked properly. i had the z10 when it came out and syncing my music via blackberry link had worked well also, music album art showed up on my device. However, since getting my blackberry Q10 this has all changed.
    1) I use a macbook pro
    2) I have the most up to date version of bb link
    3) I use a 16gb memory card
In the past two weeks since i have got the Q10, i have never once been able to get my music album art unto the the device, i have formatted the memory card over 10 times, i even went as far as doing a security wipe of the device itself. i have also gone into the file manager settings and and cleared the music folders, no joy!!
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS!!! I used to love my music on blackberry especially with my album art which showed on the Z10 so why isn't it showing on the q10. i don't have the z10 anymore to check.
Futhermore now when i try to sync music on the bb link some song are not even being transferred unto the device as if it just randomly selects the music it puts on the device.

Well, finally someone in the same boat as me. I use a Pc with windows 7. I previously had a Z10, switched to a Q10, with the same issues on both phones. Sometimes the artwork would show up, often adding a new song would corrupt all the artwork. I've even retagged all my mp3's, by wiping the metadata and reinserting the tags. No luck. I've formatted my phone, memory card, everything.
Ironically, the same memory card inserted into my old Bold 9900 and 9700 work fine, displaying all the artwork correctly.
I have spent hours, maybe even DAYS trying to fix this horrible problem. Someone help us!!!
I should add that now all of my albums are in individual folders, completely correctly named, with the latest ID3 tags. Even bypassing BlackBerry Link, and just using USB mass storage mode doesn't change things.

  • Music album art and movie chapter shot mixed up

    Hi I am new here.
I just noticed that the album art for my music and the shots in the movie chapter got mixed up. more details:
    1) for the music, the album art are correct in the album view of iPod, and the blown up image when the music is playing. However, when I clicked the back arrow to get back to the main iPod screen, the album art in the lower left hand corner under "Now Playing" is messed up. it could be a) cover from another album 2) a question mark 3) a random shot in one of my movies (Monster Inc. if this is helpful...)
    2) in movies, when i click on chapters, the chapter image for some movies which I bought from itunes are messed up. they could be some random shots from other videos (not movies) that i transfered myself. However, some movies (e.g. Monster Inc.) do not have this problem.
I didn't pay attention when this started to happen, but i am pretty sure at one point everything is alright... so... is there are way to fix this besides trying to delete everything and add again (I do not sync my library for music and movies, only pictures...)
any advise would be much appreciated... and oh... i have the most updated version of the firmware...
    thanks much in advance

I have the exact same issue, with videos that i own the electrionic version, including home videos.

  • Music Album Art

Hi, I have a new ipod touch 4th generation. And having problem's downloading my music from Windows Player, which I had already arranged my albums with titles and correct album art.
But when they downloaded on to the ipod the albums are split into singles and no album art. Please can you help me to fix this problem?
I tried so far by going into Advanced and clicked on "Get Album Artwork", it runs through and then finishes by saying Apple could not find 356 Album Artwork.
I've also tried to drag and drop the singles back into albums, but they will not move, how can I edit my music?
    Thanks!

If the album is a various artists album, it needs to be marked with *Part of a compilation* and have *Various Artists* typed into the *Album Artists* field.
So highlight all the tracks from that one album and select *File/Get Info/Options* and change *Part of a compilation* to Yes. *Album Artists* is on the Info tab.
For all albums, (single artist or various), make sure the *Album name* is identical for every track on an album.
As for the artwork, first question is what format are your songs in, MP3 or WAV? You cannot add artwork to WAV files, Window Media Player uses a special method for adding art to them, which only WMP can do. To get the artwork for MP3s, copy and paste it into the artwork box for the album. iTunes is unlikely to prove the best way for you to add art to existing MP3s.

  • Changing Musics Album Art

Hey I was just wondering If you can change a song's album art through an IPad (Air)? I'm using IOS 7.1.2 and I was listenin to music and just wanted to know.

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync

  • Album art iphone NOK album art ipod, ipod touch OK

    I have the following problem
When using my Ipod photo, ipod nano or Ipod touch (OS 2) I have no problem with getting all album arts over to the devices from Itunes. However when using Iphone with OS 4 or 3 almost all album arts are missing. I have similar results with 2 different Iphones. When using the apple remote app on my Iphone connecting to the same Itunes library the album arts are shown in the app correctly.
I have done a complete clean install of my apple mini but I am still having the same problems. Does anybody have any good suggestions on what might be the problem?

I'd just simply restore the iPod, which just takes all of your songs/ videos/ pictures off, like a major reset, and puts it all back on.
Album art was being freaky with my 2nd Gen nano once, and restoring helped.
Dont freak about it taking all of your songs off your iPod, they will still remain on your computer & iTunes.
It just kindof cleans things up if something like your problem comes up.
When you plug your iPod in, and it opens in iTunes, make sure you're looking at the main iPod menu in iTunes, and click Restore iPod, under the Check For Update button.
    Hope this solves your problem!
Oh, and let me know if restoring doesnt work, because I have another soulution that might work if Restore fails.

  • Ovi Suite 2.0 Music Album Art

Just installed Ovi Suite 2.0.  I have been using Nokia Music for a while now to add music to my device.  I have configured my songs so Nokia Music recognizes the albums perfectly.  All I do is click transfer to device and bingo my phone displays everything I want.
The music tab in Ovi Suite seems to be lacking a lot. First, it does recocognize a lot of artist names and album names on my device.  So, it just lumps them into an Unknown category.  Nokia Music, however, recognizes and sorts them properly.  Second, most of the album art is missing in Ovi Suite.  When Ovi Suite looks at either my PC hard drive or my device, it does not recognize album art.  Nokia Music, however, does recognize the album art. Third, most of the functions provided by Nokia Music, such as sorting by genre are gone.
    Would Nokia please fix this?

Thanks for the responses thus far.
I had thought it might be an ID3 issue, so I took a sample of songs that were having issues and converted their ID3 tags to other formats (and versions)... unfortunately it didn't help.
What's baffling is that I experience this problem with the majority of songs in my library, and I have over 9000. In any given album, on average, 1 or 2 songs may be fine but the majority will have this issue.
I suspect it may have to do with the iTunes library file and/or the XML files that serve as transaction logs to ID3 data. Additionally, none of the iTunes art importers work (they crash when trying to execute an import,) and I had only first experienced the problem in general when I last reformatted my computer and rebuilt the library.
Any other thoughts would be much appreciated? I did happen to find one other user w/ a similar problem in this forum but no one had ever replied w/ an answer.
    Regards,
    Mark.

  • IPhone-Music-Album- track can't sort!

On desktop in iTunes on Mac have all tracks sorted correctly and all info same: disc 1 of 4, and tracks 1-xx etc; and continuing disc 2 of 4,etc..same artist name, same album name, all same but when when this Smart Playlist appears on iPhone, all is jumbled and cannot sort in order ...it's in Music area, but is an audio book, so cannot listen if not in order. Ex: on iphone in the name of smart list when open (shuffle is NOT on in SETTINGS on iphone tho at top of playlist when open the one I want to listen to, it has word "shuffle") it shows:Track 10, track 05, track 12, track 11, track 06,etc. Any ideas?
I tried unchecking smart playlist title, re-synching, re-checking, still shows wrong track order on iphone

  • My album art does not make it onto my iPhone 4S when I drag music over from my iMax in iTunes.

I have an iPhone 4S and the latest iMac.  I manually manage my content on my iPhone - I don't have anything automatically sync on it.  But when I drag music over to my iPhone the album art does not travel with it.  I have most of my audio in AIFF format in iTunes - other than stuff I buy digitally.  I have found that once the audio is over on my phone, I then have to copy the artwork over not once but TWICE before it will update on the phone and show up.  It does work though and that is fine.
My problem now is I purchase digital 'compilations' where each track has a different album cover because they come from different albums.  I just dragged over 250+ tracks and I'm not going to go in 1 by 1 and copy the album covers over twice for each track.
My phone used to update properly but in the last few months it stopped doing it properly so I'm wondering if there is something that needs to be reset on it to get it to work properly again.
I have all the files on my iPhone coverted to 128K for size issues and all my files in iTunes are at least 320K or higher so they all get down-converted when they are moved onto the iPhone.  I assume the artwork is somehow getting 'lost' in this conversion process.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Cool - yeah I grabbed that script as well.  Going to go through my library and run that one as well.  Seems to only be able to handle X amount of tracks at a time so will have to do it step by step.  I have about 21000 tracks in my library and it didn't like doing all at one time
Its fine if it compresses the images a bit - not a big deal.  Its only on my phone so its fine.  I'm probably a bit anal about things but I hate having tracks on my phone with no images - if there are images available.
    Thanks again!

  • Windows 7 Music Library doesn't show some of my album art all of a sudden. No solutions found!!

So my music files in my music folder on the computer still doesn't show the album art. some of the art covers still exist on the music files but newly downloaded and some music files that existed don't show the album art anymore.
I've tried most of the solutions online but none of them solved the problem. I don't think it's the media player because when I play it on the media player it shows the album art for the music. And I also cleared the cashe in the mediaplayer folder. There
must be something with the system because the folder showed the cover art before but all of a sudden it stopped displaying them.
I don't know what's wrong with it...is there something that makes the music album art not show all of a sudden and the album art doesn't show for the newly downloaded music as well...

    Hi haydnan
It may be a problem of Windows 7 Explorer. First you can try all the different explorer views, title, Large icon..
If there is no effect, you can try to the following methods.
    In Windows Explorer
    1. left click on the mail folder where your music is stored and select it.
    2. Now right click and go to “properties”.
    3. Now click “advanced”.
    4. Put a check in the “Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties”.
    5.Click ”OK”.
    6.Click”Apply”.
    7. Click “OK” to apply changes to this folder. Sub folders and files.
Now go to your music library and see if it works.

  • Album art "blacked out" in coverflow

I am seeing some strange behavior from Coverflow on my new iPhone. Occasionally an albums artwork will show up as all black. Additionally, sometimes I will be able to see the cover in the cover "lineup" if i scroll a few albums over, but once i get to the cover in question, it disappears. Conversely I have seen this happen where the "lineup" cover isn't visible, but once I get to the album the artwork appears.
i always add my album art one of these two ways.
    1) Include it in the ID3 tag by using Tag & Rename software.
    2) Open the Info while browsing my iPhone in iTunes and attach it.
I know people have had problems with artwork by having iTunes find it or by adding it via the preview window. I am not doing that in this case. Here is my phone info.
    iPhone: 3G 16gb
    iPhone Software: 2.1
    Sync: Manual
    OS: Windows

I'm having the exact same issue with my 16gb iPhone unfortunatley I got the iPhone only a few days ago and updated to 2.1 before I put music/album art on there so I can't tell if it's happening just for 2.1 or firmware before this.
I also own an ipod touch 8gb which I am not willing to try updating album art to in case the same thing happens, but all art on there is working ok. but I do know same albums and cover art have been use for both devices.
In the few days I have been searching for an answer, no one has been able to give an answer to what's happening but I seriously don't think it's an issues with my pc/music/album art if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.
My setup is exactly the same as spicymeat's:
    iPhone: 3G 16gb
    iPhone Software: 2.1
    Sync: Manual
    OS: Windows XP

  • Album art replaces information

iOS7 is beautiful and cool, but Music in it is a giant step backward in information delivery, at least on the iPhone. Album art is now displayed in the song, album, playlist, artist, genre, compilations, and composer screens, where it takes up huge amounts of real estate that could be much better used to carry information. On the album screen in iOS6, eight album names were visible at once. In iOS7, because of the large space taken up by album art, only four album names are visible at a time, an information loss of 50 percent per screen, a whopping amount.
To make matters worse, the space left on each album name line has been radically truncated to accommodate the album art, so where you used to see something like Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah, Disc 1, you now see only Blah Blah Blah Bla . . . . a further pointless loss of another huge chunk of information – and really IMPORTANT information, especially if you have a lot of multi-disc albums.
What do we get in exchange for this enormous information shrinkage? Redundant album views. Redundant because if you look at an album and then at its song, artist, genre, compilations, playlist and composer screens you see THE SAME album art over and over.
In other words, Apple has decided to throw away huge amounts of real, useful information per screen so it can show us pointless redundancy instead.
Anybody know how to sensibly minimize album art on the iPhone? Any fix would be much appreciated.

    Hello qwpozxmn,
If the issues with editing song files is isolated to certain songs, it may be an issue with the actual file(s) themselves. If the issue is not isolated to certain songs, it may be your iTunes Library database. See the following article for further information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
(Note the backing up your playlists link before recreating the library file.)
It is also possible that the software on the iPod may be contributing, if the steps above don't resolve the issue you may try restoring the iPod per:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
