Am i able to transfer my music from my iphone to a 2nd hand laptop that already has a itunes library? I lost my own hard-drive and it isnt recoverable. I have a friends laptop now that has all her music & apps on it. Can i move my phone content to the new laptop? How can I save my phone content?

If you no longer have the old computer and you have to transfer it from your phone, you will have to purchase and use third-party software to extract the music from your phone, such as Touch Copy or CopyTrans.

yes.
1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

OK, just encountered this yesterday with an iPod Touch that I bought my sister. I made an account for her on my computer and registered it with her iTunes account so she could install stuff on the new iPod to use on trip home. When she got home to sync it, she would get a message that it was going to be erased. We had no choice but to proceed with the sync. After that message though there was a dialog to either erase, merge, or cancel. I selected merge and the only thing that she lost was her folders which were easy enough to recreate since she didn't have very many to begin with. I think this is something new with iTunes and while it didn't destroy/lose any important data, it's not really how it should correctly opperate not only was there an extra dialog box, but it misinforms the user that their data is going to be erased when it will not if they choose to merge on the next dialog which they are then too afraid to reach for good reason.

I ended up smashing my phone and could update all other stuff on restore but cant sync any music. It is all grey at the top of the screen. Ive re installed itunes and cleared all phone data. I'm having a similar problem. I had previously (over a year ago) purchased 2 episodes of Law & Order. Then about 2 months ago, I purchased the 3rd season of Sons of Anarchy. When I downloaded these episodes to my iPad, about a dozen full seasons of various shows popped up, too. No money was removed from my iTunes account & theses particular shows aren't in my iTunes library on my desktop. I've tried every which way to delete them from my ipad, but can't. I went to the Apple store & they suggested I contact expresslane.apple.com for help. I submitted my problem, via email Friday, as they asked, but have not received any response. A couple of other items:

The iphone/ipod is NOT a storage/backup device. Not maintaining a backup copy is a big mistake.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone/ipod to your computer:
Authorize your computer for all accounts and then click File>Transfer Purchases

How can I better optimize my iPhone music collection?

Right now I'm having the following issues with my iPhone music.
-For some reason, the albums are combining randomly (ie A Day To Remember music all in just one album, but over 50 songs that aren't same album)
-Most of my album art is not following upon syncing, while some of it does follow after sync.
If I can get any help with this situation, I'd be totally grateful. I switched to Apple because I thought iTunes made everything much easier/better.. These issues I am not okay with. I'm using iPhone 5 with most recent updated software.

Cannot add or delete songs from iPhone Music

As a precursor, I have owned my iPhone for over 3 years and this is the first encounter with this issue:
Since purchasing iTunes Match, I can no longer manage my music on my iPhone. I can neither add nor delete songs from the phone. I have over 52G's of music on iTunes and upon synching my phone, itunes indescriminately adds the songs... random songs from random albums. I've tried to delete the music from my phone, but that option is not permitted (the delete button is grey and not an option).
How can I add (from my iTunes library) and delete music from my iPhone 4? My synching preferences are checked as Manual for music transfer to my phone, yet I have absolutely no control of adding or deleting music content?
What am I doing wrong?

When you enable iTunes Match on your phone you can no longer manage your music using iTunes, you have to download it from iCloud. With iTunes Match, when you play a song it simultaneously downloads in the background. You can also download complete albums by going to the album and tapping on the cloud download icon. Unfortunately, at the present time, the only way to delete music once downloaded is to delete all music by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swiping All Music and tapping Delete. Hopefully they will restore the option to deleted individual songs again in a future update.

I have "Explicit" songs tags in iTunes, but they (the tags, not the songs) are not showing up on my iPhone Music.

I recently found a way to add the "EXPLICIT" tag to songs in my iTunes Library (using Subler), and just presumed that the tags were not showing up in my iPhone Music because the phone simply did not have the function to display them.
However, in iOS 7, and seeing every song I have ever purchased, I noticed that the iPhone can indeed show whether songs are explicit or not (by marking them with a letter 'E').
Therefore I am just wondering why I can see whether songs are explicit on my Mac, yet not on my iPhone. I have tried removing the songs from my iTunes Library, syncing to remove them from my phone, re-adding them to my Library, and then re-syncing to put them back onto my phone, and the explicit tag still does not show up.
Please can you help me resolve this.

If you buy them as a Ringtone, then Itunes should automatically put them in Tones. It is a huge hassle and takes time most of us don't have to waste, when we purchased them as Tones and Apple told me they would automatically show up in Tones if purchased from Itunes Store. NOT! And we shouldn't have to google to find the answer. They should make that clear on Itunes store. Very disappoiinted in the Itunes upgrades that have caused so many problems.
