Iphone needed to be re-registered
Last night I turned the power off on my iphone 3g. When I turned it back on there was a picture of a usb connector alternating with a phone keypad saying emergency calls only in different languages. I sync'd it up to itunes and all was fine.
Why would this happen?
Same thing happened to me this morning. Turned the phone off last night and when I turned it on this morning it said connect to Itunes. Since I was not near a computer, I just turned it off and back on again. It then said Iphone activated and seems to be working fine now. Not sure what happened.

The problem is being reported in the news media, yes. Apparently someone at Apple jumped the gun and uploaded the update before it was ready. They'll probably issue another update shortly, I would expect, but you can go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. If you have a backup copy of the older version of the app, remove the newer version, restore the old version to iTunes on your computer, and resync.
Update: Well, that was certainly quick. As of a short time ago, various sites are reporting that the Find My iPhone app is no longer displaying the previous error message. If it still is for you, delete it from your iPhone and re-download from the iTunes Store.

You need to follow the instructions in this article that best apply to your situation:

If you do not have a backup in either iCloud or iTunes, then you will have no way to retain the information on your device because you will have to restore it in order to access it again.

As deggie said, you are the victim of Activation Lock. Activation Lock is described here:

Either you need to contact the previous owner to release the phone from Find My iPhone, or if you cannot contact the previous owner, it is likely you received a stolen iPhone and it will be useless to you. -

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can) -

You have no chose but to restore your phone. What do you mean "lose everything"? Is your data/iTunes content not on your computer?

I've gotten defensive after reading the forums. The forums are full of posters just looking to prove someone wrong or stupid, rather than being helpful. I shouldn't have assumed you were one of those people. Sorry.
I did my homework and discovered that my PowerPC will run Leopard. It can be purchased for $129 by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. This is much cheaper than replacing my laptop.
I hope to upgrade my Mac soon, though! Can't believe this thing is still ticking. I love Apple. -
my iTunes detects photos on my iPhone and it's taking up almost 4 GB, but there are no photos on my iPhone…. need help
This means you have 4Gb of photos in your trash.
Go to Photos - recently deleted (an option in the same menu as "camera roll" and "photo stream") and finally delete the photos.
The 4Gb of space will then be cleared. -
My iPhone needs restoring every hour or so
I am desperate for help.
I think the iOS 5 is causing my iPhone 4 to crash.
The phone loses service and then the message "iPhone needs to be restored, can not send or recieve cells or texts" comes up.
I have restored my phone at least 30 times, used the DFU restore and turned off my virus software to make sure iTunes is updated .
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or how to fix it? when I do get the phone working it needs to be restored 20 minutes later. Its very inconvinient at this time of year.The steps to set up as a new device are in the following article:

Getting "iPhone needs to cool down" warning while using Apple Maps
I bought the iPhone 6 yesterday and today I used the Apple Maps navigation on it. Not 30 mins into the navigation I got following warning from the phone "iPhone needs to cool down". 30 minutes of GPS usage is not too much. This happened twice. Are other ppl. having the same issue or is it just my phone?
