Iphone, new computer, old computer crashed

Old computer crashed. Hard drive destroyed and no backup (I know, I know). Question. Is there any way to get data from Iphone (music, contacts, etc.) onto the new computer?
Thanks.

Contacts will sync to your new PC just make sure you create at least a contact in your new Address Book so that the info can merge between PC and iPhone

  • Old iPhone, New Computer-need help

    Here is my situation:
My old computer is gone. Dead. Hardware failure.
Is there a way I can get my old iPhone data into the new computer? Losing my music is fine, that is easy to get back. What I want sync back is my contacts and photos. Those two are the most important. I don't care about dates, notes, music, apps, etc. I have a ton of contacts and a ton of photos I do not want to lose. Is there a way I can get those data back into the new computer? It's a PC by the way (don't kill me apple.)

    This should help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
You definitely do not want to just connect to a new computer.  It will wipe all you music.  You must have your media on your new computer first.  Before connecting your phone, open iTunes and go to Preferences.  Make sure you uncheck the box that says to sync automatically when the phone is connected.  Sync is something you want to be in charge of, especially the first time on a new computer.

  • Iphone: new computer, dated backup

    Hi everyone,
I just had my old macbook stolen and had to buy a new macbook pro. I've gone through a lot of the discussions regarding how to move one's iphone to the new computer, but still have some questions. Clearly, it is ideal to use migration assistant to transfer all the contents from one's old computer to one's new computer, but since mine was stolen, this is not much of an option for me. I do nonetheless at least have some stuff backed up on my remaining on a small backup drive, but it is fairly incomplete and it is not very current (about three or four months old). I did manage to backup my iTunes folder (the one stored in my Music folder) by simply dragging it to my backup drive, and I have managed to transfer most of my iTunes library music and apps, etc. from my back-up drive over to the new computer by doing the same. Likewise, I have gotten all the pictures and video off my phone and onto the computer, so these are not an issue, but I am concerned about preserving the rest of the content that is still on my iphone (I have still not synced it with the new computer or made the new computer it's home): namely, 1) my Contacts, 2) my Calenders, 3) my Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, and currently open pages, 4) my Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps, 5) my Notes, 6) My application settings, preferences, and data, and 7) my SMS messages, Mail, YouTube bookmarks, Contact Favorites, Network settings (saved wifi spots, VPN settings, network preferences).
My first question then is this: I know that iTunes backs up my iPhone whenever I sync up. Might I have a backup (albeit, one that is a bit dated) somewhere in my iTunes folder, or is that backup stored elsewhere? Please let me know if I might have access to any iphone backups if (so far as this issue is concerned) I only backed up my iTunes folder, and if so, how I might go about accessing that and possibly restoring that info to my phone.
Second, however, even supposing I had an old iphone backup, I'm not even sure I'd want to sync to it, since I have a lot of important information on my phone that is more recent than what that old backup contains. I'm worried, in other words, about erasing all the content on my phone that i have added since the last backed-up back up (three or four months of new Contacts, Safari Bookmarks, Map bookmarks, and a lot of Notes). If my back-up of iTunes contains a previous iphone back-up, in other words, it would be nice to access it, but since it is probably about three months old, I would want to be careful about syncing to it, since I imagine it could erase the last three months of content which have been added to my phone since that back-up. Is this correct? If syncing to that backup meant that I would lose the last three months of info, that raises the question of whether or not I would even want to use it and whether or not I would instead want to simply act as if it did not exist (choosing, instead, to at least get my current contacts and calenders to sync with the computer and to make note of everything else I might lose and re-entering it by hand). So, 1) do I need to be careful about an unintended sync with an old and incomplete back-up that might be hiding in my somewhere in my itunes folder, and if so, 2) where is it, how does it work, and a) can I use that incomplete back-up, if it even exists, to get back some of my info without erasing the more recent stuff that now resides only on my phone, or b) do I need to erase it in order to prevent the phone from accidentally syncing to it when i first sync it up with with everything else in my iTunes folder, and if so, how do I do this?
This then leads me to my next set of questions. For the sake of making clear what all my options are, let's assume that either 1) I don't have access to any previous iphone backup or 2) that, if I do, I cannot use it without erasing all the more recent info added to my phone since that backup took place. In this event, I would presumably not want to sync or restore the phone to its state when that backup took place, since I would lose a lot of info currently on the phone (correct?), and so I'd want to proceed either 1) by acting as if I had no iphone backup at all, and thus write down everything on my phone that I think I will lose upon my first sync and manually renter it later, or 2) syncing with that backup, but first manually writing down with a pen all the info on my phone since my last back-up, then second syncing to that old back-up, then finally by going back to my phone and adding in everything that I had written down by hand, right? If I proceed by the second course of action, I am assuming that I will lose any info on my phone that was added since that last backup. Alternatively, if I proceed by the first course of action, I need to think about what information I may or may not lose when I sync up to the new computer for the first time and what information will download from the phone to the computer. In this latter case, let me ask you what info you think I will lose. As I said, the music and pics are not an issue (they are already on the new computer). But my contacts and calenders on my computer are empty, as well as my Safari bookmarks (which have only those which come on the computer out of the box). I've read on the discussion boards that, even though I do not have any contacts on my computer any longer (this was one of the incomplete parts of my backup), there is no danger of losing my contacts or calenders that are on my phone when I sync, since so long as I enter at least one new contact and calender entry onto my computer it will prompt a sync that will transfer the contents of the phone to my computer just like it does whenever I add new contacts or events to my phone. Is this correct? And, is it correct even if I make the new computer its home? Next, what about my Safari bookmarks? Will they sync with the out-of-the-box bookmarks on my computer, thus erasing all my bookmarks on my phone, or can I transfer the bookmarks from the phone to the computer in some way? Is the only option to "manually" go in and add all my bookmarks to Safari on my computer before the sync? (Alternatively, if I use an old backup for my iphone, but the new computer still has the out-of-the-box bookmarks, while the phone sync to the out-of-the-box bookmarks anyway?) Finally, I also imagine that SMS, Mail, network settings, Map bookmarks, Notes, etc. will remain unaffected, but am unsure. I really don't want to lose my Notes.
I know this is a lot, and I'm playing around with several hypotheticals here, but I want to make sure that go about this in whatever way maximizes how much info on the phone gets saved. Hope this is something you all can give me some direction on.
    Thanks a ton.

Disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup and where it is stored on your computer here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • Please help iPhone new computer issue

    I'd appreciate the help please.
just bought a new computer and want to use my iphone 4 with this computer now. how do i tell the computer that I want this to be the sole computer and will i lose all my contacts and photo's ?
ive searched but can't find the solution.
    cheers

Copy everything to your new computer.
If they are documents, then just copy them to the new computer.
Do the same with your contacts, calendars, etc.
You can type "move itunes library" or similar into the Google search bar to learn how to do that.
How did you move everything to your current computer?  Do it the same way.  Certainly your new computer provides a way to copy content from your old one.

  • New iPhone & New Computer

I have a new computer and a new iPhone4. How do I get my new computer to recognize the data stored in itunes from my old computer.

That's the problem - I don't know how to copy everything from the old computer to the new computer. From iTunes, I tried File > Library > Back Up, but it won't let me download to a thumbdrive. Any suggestions?

Bear with me as I am not all that computer literate.........I have a new, as in barely two week old, laptop Toshiba A500-ST5601 that started crashing on start-up 4 days ago.  I get a blue screen that says "DRIVER.IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"  I did a search on here and found a message that asked for certain error info and I searched my event viewer and found this info just from todays event.  Any help to resolve the issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • New iphone, new computer, lost ringtones

I previously had an iphone 4 that lasted me quite a long time, when it shut down unexpectedly and the battery swelled I replaced it with an Iphone 5s. i have everything i have ever purchased as far as songs and shows go. But not one single ringtone I had is on my library and i have not seen many of them available as far as i can see on itunes. They are just gone. i spent money on these and would hate to repurchase them, however some tones just don't show up anywhere. Can i get some help? Please and thank you in advance.

Ringtones (and audiobooks) are a one-time only download from the store (other items are only redownloadable whilst they remain in the store). If you don't have copies of them on your backup of your downloads/library, and if they are still in the store and you haven't moved countries since buying them, then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a redownload : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Installing Windows 8 on a new HD (old HD crashed)

I have replaced the hard drive in a HP 2000 notebook pc and wanted to do a factory reinstall.
I was able to go into the OLD hard drive an pull byte by btye the recovery partition.  That was succesful.
Since it is a new hard drive, I cannot pull up HP Recovery manager and cannot find a download for it anywhere.  I have tried to go inside WinRE and put to the install.wim image but that did not work.
Any help would be much appreciated in making CD's from the recovery partiation or being able to point to that partiation and install from there.
    Thank you

Only recovery manager can make the recovery partition work and it is something you cannot download.
There is an alternative you can use but you would need your Windows 8 Key.  You could download and create a Windows 8.1 ISO and burn it to disk to install Windows on your computer.  It is not a HP version but a copy of the retail Windows 8.1 version containing none of the HP software.  You would not need the recovery partition.

  • Reinstalling/download CS4 on new CPU (old CPU crashed - have hard drive)

Had CS4 on old CPU - motherboard went out. I can't find the disk and box w/serial number. I do have my old hard drive.
Any ideas how to redownload/reinstall CS4 without this info?

Your only hope probably lies in contacting Adobe Support directly by chat or phone to see if they can assist you, but don't be surprised if they refuse to give you a serial number... there is only so much that can be done to prove your legitimacy as the owner.

  • How can I get my old classic iPod library onto a new computer without losing either library? The songs on my iPod are from hundreds of CD's I don't want to re-import

My original iPod has my old CD collection on it, hundreds of them painstakingly imported. Over the years, I have got new iPod, new iPhone, new computer, and run a separate iTunes library. But now I want my old collection on my computer. How can I get this old iPod music converged with my newer music and computer, without having to wipe out a library or lose any music?

    Hello jlfromcorona,
Use the manual method of copying all the music from your iPod Classic, to your new Mac.  See this article for instructions.

  • I want to sync my iphone to a new computer without loosing my apps, contacts, and photos

I need to sync my iphone3 to a new computer without loosing my data

Take a look here:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141  I think this is what you need.  I just did a clean install of OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard on our iMac (mid-07) and used this guide to get my wife's iPhone (3GS) to sync with it again...without losing the apps.  This page from OSXdaily is also useful:  http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/29/sync-iphone-new-computer-without-losing-data/  I do use Time Machine, and backed up my drive before I did the whole wipe and install, so I did have all the backup files for the iPhone...  It took a little time, but I did manage to drag all the music and photos over so I didn't lose anything.   Hope this helps.

  • How do you install CS5 onto a new computer without Time Machine/file transfer

I'm not getting a new computer, but my current one is getting a little old (Macbook Pro V. 10.6.8) and I'm afraid it might crash if I download the newest Maverick system, which is why I want to make absolutely sure I'm able to save and transfer all my old files and CS5 Creative Suite programs if this indeed happens. I don't trust Time Machine to do it; my boss had this happen and Time Machine did not transfer the Adobe programs. I also don't want to rely on Time Machine and any other file transfer (which all new Macs offer) because I've had brand new computers crash because of old corrupt files from my old computer converting over, and the Apple people said it's a bad idea (which would have been nice to know BEFORE the computer crashed and everything. . .) I've been told you can only use the CD to install CS5 onto your computer twice, which I've already done (thanks to my brand new computer crashing once already). So I would like to know how it's possible to install the program onto a new computer should this one crash, without the use of file transfer or Time Machine. I have no interest in upgrading to CC.
    Thanks!

Avoid using Time Machine for re-installing Adobe software. It rarely works and usually breaks the activation mechanism.
I've been told you can only use the CD to install CS5 onto your computer twice,
    Not quite.
You can install the software as many times as you like but you can only activate the software for use on a maximum of two computers at the same time.
To re-install you will need your CS5 serial number.
Download the installer from Download CS5 products
Install then enter your serial number when prompted.

  • Blue screen of death when disconnecting iPhone from computer

So I bought the iPhone and even though I own a Mac I decided to connect it to my work PC which happens to run Windows XP. Everything worked great until I took a picture with the iPhone. As soon as I connected the iPhone, the computer crashed with a blue screen of death. So I looked it up on the forums here and found the article that talks about what COULD be the issue. What Apple is saying with that article basiclly is that this is "your" problem and not theirs so good luck trying to find which one of the 50 drivers that I have on my machine causes the issue. I tried to fix it by updating the drivers that they recommend and the problem is still there. Fine, I will not take pictures with the iPhone.
And then yesterday out of the blue (no pun intended) iTunes gave me an error message when I connected the iPhone, I didn't pay any attention to it and dismissed it only to find out that now every time I remove the iPhone from the computer, it crashes it with a blue screen of death. So now I can't sync the iPhone at all! How much more unsaved work am I going to loss because of this product?
On a personal note, I am a huge fan of Apple's products but I am extremely upset about this. Not only did Apple create a sloppy software implementation, they are making it look like it's a Windows problem. None of the other products that are installed on my machine cause my computer to crash like that, and if I do have an outdated driver (which I doubt!) then the developers of those products have found a way to deal with them WITHOUT crashing!
    Please advise

ok. first I couldn't log in with my previous nickname (not sure why) so I created a new one. Anyways, thank you for your reply and I'm sorry for coming off like jack it's just that losing your data three times will do that to you. I will tunnel my anger back at Microsoft I guess.
In any event, I went back and took a look at my drivers and didn't find any Lexmark or Logitec in there, however I decided to remove the built-in camera driver that came with the laptop and that seemed to work (it turns out that Logitec makes that camera!). I also moved the USB cable to a different port on the computer and now I don't get the blue screen when I disconnect the iPhone.
Thanks again for your help, it seems like I am safely syncing again
