Iphone New Message Icon Problem

My iphone message icon shows one unread message.  When I open the icon up the messages have all been read.  How do I get rid of the message number on the icon?

try a simple reboot first, that usually solves most quirky things

  • New Message icon appears - but can't find messages

I have the BB Curve 8330 and have the "new message" icon at the top of the screen saying I have 7 new/unread messages but I can't find them anywhere!  I have checked all of the folders, deleted and re-added my email account, and was on the phone with Sprint for over an hour today and they were not able to help me.
I had this problem about 6 months ago and I think the lady told me that it was something to do with saving the messages to the server - but I have made sure that I am saving them to the server and still can't get it fixed.  The last tech had me go to Options -> Mobile Network -> Start Provisioning....I did this but then another "new" message appeared that I can't find.  The weird part though, is I can receive and send emails to friends and other folks, just can't get these emails off the phone.  Can someone please help me??
    Thank you so much!!

Tips for clearing that unread message... try them in order.
If you have a rogue New Message icon on your Homescreen, or a negative count (-1), any one of these solutions could clear it, or reset it to zero:
    Try these options:
    * Open your main Messages folder and highlight today's date, click the menu key and select Mark Prior Opened.
    * Hard Reset the BlackBerry by holding ALT, CAP (right Shift key), and DEL (or with the BlackBerry powered ON, remove the battery and reinserting the battery)
    * View Messages > Saved Messages
    * View Messages > View Folders, check each folder (missed calls, SMS in and out boxes, MMS in and out boxes, Saved, browser, phone logs etc)
    * Scroll to top of message folder, over the date heading, click or press menu to MARK PRIOR OPEN
    * Change your theme and see if it persists, and change back to your desired theme. (Options > Theme > select.)
    * Connect to Desktop Manager > Backup/Restore > Advanced. On the right-hand pane is the list of data on your device. Scroll to the email messages database and highlight it, then below, select CLEAR. This will clear your device of all messages.
    * Wipe and reload your OS.

  • Cannot return to message list while in a message without clicking on "compose new message icon" and then cancelling it.

After updating to 8.1 from 8 i cannot return to my message list from inside a message without clicking on the "compose new message" icon and then canceling out of that.
Also, where it used to say return, it now says "Edit" and the word "Message" on the top of the screens is scruched together.
Here is a link to a screenshot of my phone from the main messages listing.

  • New Message Icon - Can't find the messages! :)

Okay so I've had my BlackBerry Curve 8310 for a week now.  Just been tooling around with it to learn how it works on my own.  Today I was trying to register the BIS to log into my email account to create a filter to stop sending my Gmail Sent mail back to my phone (so annoying).  Anyway, Tried registering as a new user via PC.  I entered my PIN and IMEI and it told me that an account already existed for that PIN.  I thought that was strange, I hadn't registered before?  SO just out of curiousity I clicked on the 'forgot my password' link and had it sent to my phone.  I see an icon saying I have a new messge however I cannot FIND the message.  Thought I did something stupid or wrong so I clicked resend for the password and again I see now I have two and then three new messages (third time is supposed to be the charm right?) on the icon but can't find these messages!  I looked in SMS/MMS folder, looked in Gmail and BlackBerry mail folders but still cannot locate these messages!  Where the heck did they go??
BTW I finally registered with the BIS through my phone and was able to complete it there and then logged onto my PC and created the filter I wanted.  So I'm cool with that.  I just need to get that stupid new message icon off my phone.  Dunno if it helps but when I get new emails, the number on the message icon increases, so it must be something to do with email..?
    Please Help!

i actually tried that.. and it tells me that i have NO UNREAD MESSAGES but the icon is STILL there! help please!
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    Try this:
    Homescreen > Messages > > Search
Set as follows (may vary depending on your device OS level):
    Search Type: Local
    Name In: Any Address Field
    Subject Message: <leave blank>
    Include Encrypted Messages: Yes
    Service: All Services
    Folder: All Folders
    Show: Unopened Only
    Type: All
That should return to you all unopened messages from all message conduits.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Curve 9300 - New Unknown Icon next to New Messages Icon

    Evening,
A new and unknown icon has appeared next to the new messages icon.  It is a white envelope with a black splodge in the centre and a red circle in top right corner.  It is not clear what is in the black splodge or red circle - could be an exclamation mark in the red circle.  The Icons and Indicators guide does not show this one.
It also does not refere to any messages from any app that I can work out.
    Any clues?

    Hello ColinStone,
The steps in the following article should help regarding the update icon appearing on your BlackBerry® smartphone screen:
These same steps will apply in BlackBerry App World™ storefront 3.0.
After an update to BlackBerry App World 2.0, the update notification is still visible - http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB23718
    We hope this helps.

  • Can't create a new message.  New message icon missing!

Starting today, I cannot send new txt messages.  When I go into messages, the top bar that normally has the EDIT and new msg icon is replaced with the search bar.  All I can do is look at msgs that are on my phone and respond to existing ones.
I'll try restarting my iPhone 4, but wondered if anyone has seen this before?  (and yes, latest firmware version, etc. on my iPhone 4).

  • New Message Indicator Problem

I just updated my 8300 to the latest software and something new has started. I have 3 email accounts setup through BIS to my device which creates 3 email folders on my device for each corresponding account. The old way I received new mail messages and notifications was a red star on the corresponding email icon and the message count for each account in parenthesis next to the email address for the account.
After I installed the latest software, I get mail sent to both the generic messages folder and the corresponding account. But only the messages folder has the red star/flag. I want it to go back to the way it was (nothing in generic folder and new email in the corresponding icon with a red star/flag for each new message on each account) and can't figure it out (I do have my messages (SMS and EMAIL inboxes) set to separate in the options folder).
    Please help!

Thanks for your reply. I found out the solution by accident. Under message options-->Email reconciliation-->Confirm Delete set to prompt (options on handheld only, handheld and mailbox, prompt). for some reason when I changed it from handheld only to prompt it seperated the mail (I also have email and SMS seperate under general email options).

  • N8/Belle: "new message" icons confused

I have an N8 that is supposedly fully up to date with Belle and the related software.  Nothing has been configured yet with any of the new Microsoft apps.
The last update was installed yesterday, for the "new widgets", etc.
The problem was that at the top of the screen, to the left of where the GPS satellite image would appear during satellite access, there is a flashing white envelope.  Nothing I have done will get rid of it.
Supposedly this is if your mailbox is full - I emptied out all the mailbox folders.  I thought the mail program was even more confused than I originally thought, so I deleted everything.  No luck.
Then today, I now have a white envelope below the time on the 'lock screen'.   Again, nothing seems to be able to get rid of it.  Messages were cleared out, draft folders emptied...
Anyone know where this stuff comes from, and better yet, how to get rid of it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You were correct - I tried to follow the built-in manual's instructions to get to the SIM card, but it didn't work. I gave up and put the SIM card in an old phone that doesn't have any of the high-tech stuff, and deleted all the messages on the SIM card, then put it back in the N8. Problem solved. Everything works fine again.
Having just read your message, I tried it your way - and while there are no messages left to be dealt with, your instructions worked fine.
(That anyone would put that flashing icon on the phone, with no way to identify what is wrong, is beyond me. If Nokia is serious about the N8, which I'm sure they're not, they'd let a person click on the flashing envelope and get a message as to what the problem is.)
.............side thought. With this update, Belle is a lot less annoying than it used to be. Apparently the new update doesn't fix all the problems with Belle, but at least it takes care of some of the most annoying ones. The phone is like an old shoe...... it might not be as good as it once was, but it's comfortable. Maybe I'll stop trying to sell it..........

  • IPhone new operating system - problem with alerts

There seems to be a glitch on the calendar when setting up alerts with the new IPhone operating system. When I set up a time for 1st & second alerts the system does not keep the times I chose and reverts to other non-chosen times for the alerts.

The thief who steals or finds your phone will thank you also, having access to all of your personal information, like all of your contacts, who can now be spammed as if the message came from you. Your friends may not be as happy, however. And think of the fun the thief can have updating your Facebook page, and tweeting from your identity. The thief will probably also have enough personal information about you to steal your identity.

  • Nokia 6710 Navigator Message Icon problem

    Hi,
On my New Nokia Navigat 6710 when i'm on the home screen with all the icons, at the top right part of the screen there is a flashing envelope. It is next to the bluetooth icon.
I've tried everything to get rid of it but nothing is working.
    Anyone know what is wrong?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In such situation, basicly the reason is that messaging memory (which is phone memory by default) was full already. As such, pls try the following steps:
    - Reboot the phone and power up again after 15 mins (remove the battery, sim card and MMC abt 15 mins)
    - Delete outbox messages in Inbox, Outbox, Sent item...  (all messages if there are a lot)
    - Delete personal data (videos, songs, images, apps...), plus call logs, sms logs, packet data logs, caches, to set the memory free:
+ Menu > Log > Recent calls > Options > Delete recent calls
    + Menu > Log >  Call duration > Options > Clear timers
    + Menu > Log > Packet data > Options > Clear counters
+ Menu > Internet > Web > Options >Clear privacy data > Delete Cache and Delete Cookie
    - View and copy all Sim messages into phone: Menu > Messaging > Options > Sim message > Options > Mark/Unmark > Marl all > Options > Copy. A list of folders open --> select a folder > copy.
    - To continue, delete sim messages: Menu > Messaging > Options > Sim message > Options >Mark/Unmark > Mark all> Options > Delete
    - Select MMC to be used as memory for Messaging app: Menu > Messaging > Options > Settings > Other > Memory in use > slect the MMC (if any)
    - If the above steps can not help, you are advised to do the factory settings on the phone:
    Menu > Settings> Settings> General > Factory settings > Lock code (12345 by default)
Pls let me know whether it works or not. Tks

  • New message icon

Hi guys! I made application which receives email mesages. How can I change application icon on incomming message to my "unread" icon?
My application is started automatically when device is switched on. And have second entry point to start my application manually (with GUI).
On starting automatically, it successfully sets icon and rollover icon:
    HomeScreen.updateIcon(icon ,0);
    HomeScreen.setRolloverIcon(icon2, 0);
but, on incomming message ( when FolderListener.messagesAdded is started), these functions raise  exception:
<Module with handle [921] and index [1] has no application entry point>
I tried  change index to 1,2,3... bu result is same....
Where is my issue? Perhaps exists another way to change icon at this moment?
    Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Sadly, a strict interpretation of what you've said would lead one to not offer any help...after all, if you've already tried everything, then there is nothing new to offer. Nevertheless, I suggest a message search:

  • Turn off "New Message" icon

    Hi
Blackberry's great for working my emails but how do I stop it telling me I have new mail?
    - I have successfully turned all the sounds/vibrations/LEDs to off
    - And I have stopped it telling me how many new emails I have
    - But how do I turn off the little envelope that appears at the top of the screen telling me I have new mail?
(I'd prefer to only know when there is new mail when I actually go into my messages, not all the time!)
I've looked through the forums and found someone else with the same problem a couple of years ago but no solution...
    Can anyone help?
    thanks!

You can't turn off the yellow  envelope at the top of the screen.

  • HT201320 When I access my email from the iPhone, hit "inbox", the new messages appear briefly, but then just evaporate.  I can't find them anywhere - not in inbox, not in junk, trash, saved - nowhere.  Can anyone tell me what is happening?

When I access my email from the iPhone, new messages appear only briefly and then immediately disappear, before I do anything.  Only old messages that were already in my inbox are visible.  I can't find the new messages anywhere -- they have not moved to Saved, Junk, Trash, anything.  IT is like the iPhone just ate them.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you have a POP3 account this means that another "client" email program has retrieved the messages and deleted the messages from the server. You need to change the server settings on that device to leave the messages on the server.
If you have an IMAP or MS Exchange account this means that someone read the messages on another device and either deleted them or moved them to another folder. Or there is an automated script that moved them to another folder.
